I go to Lucky Grill for the Irish Breakfast. Lucky Grill is not an Irish place, so they must be hiding an Irish Gran in the back cooking the wonderful breakfasts. This is a diner, and they serve good food at decent prices. Great soups, BLT's, Rueben's and other items. I am not sure why they get bashed by so many people, I enjoy both locations, this one and the one on Talcott. read more

I've been going to Lucky Grill for years now. I love this place. You simply can't find a better breakfast in the area. I even love their breakfast for Dinner. The food is great, the service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. It's a great local place and you get to know the patrons since so many visit here so often. Their soups are even delicious! Maybe its just me, but their food and service is getting consistently worse. I have been eating here since I was born. Never really had a complaint. But lately, they are going down hill immensely. First I called in to order. They would not take my credit card over the phone. Had me go to their website to order. Ordered on their website for delivery, I will edit and add pictures of the pathetic sandwich I got. A small chicken breast that did not cover even half on the huge bun it was on. Never was like this before. On top of it I asked for bread for the soup that came with each sandwich. I added a note to each sandwich individually, for them to not forget bread. "Please do not forget bread and butter" x3 ....... Guess what? No bread. Now I have a three year old who specifically asked for it crying his eyes out. Thanks Lucky Grill. Hmm maybe if you had taken my order over the phone like a real restaurant... we wouldn't have this issue. And to add on, it took 1 hour and 20 minutes for delivery, A little long seeing i'm less that a mile away and its a Monday night. Oh and the owner delivered it. So the owner is there... yet this kind of thing is happening..... This is just tonight. last time my food arrived ice cold. So cold I had them bring a different order. The time before that they forgot half of what we ordered and had to run it out. Um... get it together Lucky Grill before you start losing 20+ year customers. I really like this diner. Waitresses are all really polite and attentive. Its in a strip mall and parking is usually not too bad. Tried a few things. Greek omelette was good. Burgers are typical diner style which isnt a bad thing. Patty melt was excellent. If your in the mood for a good breakfast, this really isnt a bad choice. read more

We really enjoyed or meals here. My husband ordered a burger that came with soup. He said both were done well. I had the Patrick's skillet, which is an Irish Breakfast in a skillet - yum! If you like, rashers, bangers, black and white pudding, you'll enjoy this dish. Service was friendly and fast. The space itself is small, mostly booths, a small counter and a few tables. We were able to find street parking with no trouble. They also have some outside seating for nice weather days. Glad we found this place - close to Resurrection Hospital - very convenient. read more

Large breakfast portions FAST! My wife and I were in Chicago visiting one of our children for Superbowl Sunday. We stopped in at Lucky Grill for Breakfast before beginning our long commute home. The resturant is a diner and it's decor reflects this. It is super clean and well kept. The menu takes a bit of time to look over as there are a ton of opitons. When we ordered our breakfast, it must have been 5-7 minutes before it began arriving on the table. The food was good, but I would not rate it as anything exceptional. The portions are large american portions, which is more than any of us should eat. The servers were very watchful and our coffee never got below half full. I think for a breakfast outing this was a very good experience. We heared lots of groups who were being seated raving about the soups and breads at this restuarant. We will definately be back to try some our next time in Chicago. read more

I've been here about 10 times tried something different every time. Almost everything I had was very good above average for a diner. From the gyro plate to French toast they didn't disappoint. Only complaint is server needs to stop by more but I do usually go on Sunday when it's busy. I recommend this place ! read more

I use to visit on a regular basis back in the late 1996 ish, due to an location transfer I've been gone until last night. Had the turkey special and it was very good, my son who now lives in the neighbor hood had their British breakfast , and loved it. He said he will make many return visits. And the most critical person, my wife, about her visiting new places, was ecstatic about the very spicy double hot dog. I would just like to start by saying, I've been coming to this restaurant for years. It's in the neighborhood and has actually been a go to for me since the first time I visited. Both the food and service have always been well above average in my experience and I was beginning to become quite the loyal customer. However, a recent expierence I had there changed my opinion about the establishment, perhaps forever. I went there for breakfast one morning with a friend, and about halfway through our meal we noticed ants crawling around on the table. We were initially a little reluctant to ask for the manager, but it was such a shock that when the waitress came to ask how everything was we felt obligated to bring it to their attention. Now everything to this point was fine, and honestly, we would still go there to this day, if not for the way they handled the situation. When prompted about the occurence, and with the ants in full view, the manager assured us this was nothing unusual. He actually said, "Well you should see the back." No apologies were offered, and he had no intention to rectify the situation. We eventually told him out right that we weren't going to pay for the meal. He argued for a bit, offering to give us a fifty percent discount instead, but eventually agreed no charge was fair. It was a genuine shock for us, especially since service there is a staple and has actually been one thing that has brought us back time and time again. In conclusion, the situation was handled so poorly, and with such non-chalant attitude, that two loyal customers of this establishment won't be repeating patronage. read more

Usually I am very satisfied, but today I asked for a cup of cheese on the side for my fries, and got some slices of cheese only slightly melted at the corner in a cup. What is that? Today was a super bad service day. The waitress must had a rough night; actually she should had stayed home. We waited much longer than usual for service. The waitress gave me the wrong plate and wanted to take it back after I started eating. She also forgot the links and toast for my husband's order. We noticed she was doing a half ass job. Realizing she mentioned that she needed another cup of coffee. She kept forgetting what she did or needed to do. Then our bill was incorrect. So my bf decided to take my sister and her kids and I here to treat us to breakfast before they go back home today. Well I've been here a few times and only had good luck with the food once (when I ordered their Salisbury steak special-YUM) and good luck with a waitress once. Well today (by far) was the worst experience I've had (all of us collectively) with any waitress/waiter. This girl first went wrong when she came back to ask me (25 minutes or so after we ordered our food) if I had ordered pancakes or waffles.....Annoyingly I reminded her that it was pancakes with blueberries and a little bit of whip cream. She didn't apologize or anything. Just didn't pay attention. When she brought it to me a few minutes later it was strawberries instead of blueberries (with a little bit of whip cream--got that right). Told her it was wrong. She laughed....???? Why was it funny? Well when she had another waitress bring it with the blueberries it had no whip cream....ok....that's nice....so I told her it was supposed to have whip cream.....so she took the plate and had the can of whip cream and just totally smothered it with it......please would you like some pancakes with your whip cream???? Grr. Had to remove most of it. Then my bf asked if I ordered bacon.....I told him yes....and he said well here....it was thrown on a plate with my 2 year old's bacon. Weird. So then the original (crappy) waitress we had brought me my hash browns that I ordered with onion only (specifically I said no ham or green peppers)......let's just say there was ham in there....told her I said onion only....she argued with me that I said to I wanted ham and then I argued back and she took it and brought it to me the correct way. After that we never saw her again. Our waitress abandoned us! We needed drink refills, orders, to go boxes, etc. She could of at least put someone else in her place. I finally asked one of the bus boys for a manager. No manager was available. A waitress we had before (that provided us excellent service) came over and said she could speak on the manager's behalf. She was very apologetic and made up for everything this girl lacked.....but what got us was that she was excusing this waitress saying that she is normally very good and must be having an off day and that she's just a 21 year old kid. Oh please! Jobs I had at that age would have fired me so fast for acting like that! 21 years old is not a kid anymore! Grow up! People like her making excuses for that kind of behavior only promotes that kind of behavior more! And when we left my sister made an excellent point! She said that all she would have asked for is an apology. The girl couldn't even come and suck it up and apologize. Not like I was mean. I was annoyed yes. She obviously has a problem with authority--sounds like a teenager--not a 21 year old! Grr! read more
