The absolute worst Chinese food I have ever tasted. It was a game day and no one in my family was up to cooking. We put our appetite in the hands of Lucky House Chinese Restaurant. This was a poor choice on my part. Read my review and don't make the same mistake I did! This place is hit or miss... both on food and service. My family was very loyal to the owner. We are the food back when they worked at Fortune Seafood, and followed them here to Lucky House. Thanks to them it is why I am in love with beef chow fun (dry) and pork chops with pecking sauce. I've always ordered party trays here, both my family and my husband's family used to come here. I mean our WHOLE family. Now some refuse to go anymore whether it be the service or the food lacking luster. If we do go anymore it's just that fact that it's convenient and close Chinese and dim sum. I still enjoy the food here sometimes. Honestly, even on its bad days, it's still better than majority of the Chinese places in San Antonio. When they are in a good mood, service is good, and food is good then you can really enjoy this place because everything on the menu doesn't disappoint. BUT! Wow. Amazing food! First time eating here, we got UberEats, so we did not eat at the restaurant. I noticed the prices were a little higher than I'm used to for Chinese food, so I hoped the quality matched the cost. And, boy howdy, it did! The quality, quantity, the freshness, etc... There are chinese food places that have a little bit of everything... Teriyaki, korean bbq, sushi, wok stir-fries,... Then there are the ones that stick to what they know and what they're good at. Lucky House is the latter. We werent dissapointed in anything we ordered. The fried oysters were extremely fresh. The chicken wings were huge, crunchy on the outside and juicy in the center. The mushu pork was awesome! The fish maw/crab soup is also amazing. Extremely satisfying. The chow fun noodles in egg / shrimp was probably my favorite dish. The noodles alone were absolutely incredible! They tasted homemade from scratch. I will definitely be getting more of that one! The portions are not skimpy. The quality of ingredients is high. A really bad experience! When my husband was paying and did not leave a tip on the receipt, the cashier questioned him and why didn't she get a tip. Before we even had the chance to give the tip in cash. She demanded to give her 15%. He never came around to check on us and we where the only people in the restaurant. This is authentic traditional Hong Kong style dim sum house. Kent would be the last place on earth you would expect to find such restaurant. The place may not have nice decorations like some restaurant in Bellevue, but service is fast and nice. Food quality is excellent. My mom who just came to visit from Hong Kong, the origin place of dim sum, actually love the food here and asked me to bring her back to this restaurant. That is the ultimate seal of approval you can get. Update 11/15 Turns out their dinner is also very good. Lot of choices and variety and you can still order dum sum at dinner time on top of their already huge dinner dishes selection. We tried their beef stew dish, it was so good that my wife keep eating even she said she is already full. Another surprise is their Hong Kong style milk tea. The corner of Smith and State in downtown Kent has extraordinary Dim Sum. I'll come back to this review later. But, this food was so good and the review score here on Yelp seemed so far off, I felt ethically bound to raise a banner. I tried their potstickers, their eggplant shrimp and a shrimp noodle dish. All three are Hong Kong style classics and all three were great along with the specialty sauces they were served with. You don't have to go to San Francisco or Seattle to get world class Dim Sum. Nobody was there except us and it was 6:00 on a Friday night. It was so good!!! The service was great! Pricing was fair! Why isn't this place packed? I just don't get it. The dim sum was a sweet surprise. A menu just for dim sum in addition to their regular menu. I don't eat meat - but I do eat fish, so finding a shrimp dumpling on the menu made me so happy. I had Cod with Broccoli and my husband had the Almond Chicken combo. We both chowed down on our orders! The quantity of food allowed us to both take home boxes and have another meal the next day. I have dim sum at Lucky House at least once a month if not more with groups of friends from 4 to 8 people. I would recommend going on a weekend as that's when the food is freshest because the restaurant is usually packed. I love having dim sum here and the wait staff is always very friendly. If you don't want something from the cart, they're happy to make it as a special order. I do this a lot of times to ensure the food is hot. The one downside I would have to say is that sometimes the manager/owner can be a little short. I was actually there today with a group of friends and miscounted the money that I gave him for the bill. He came back to the table, just laid the money down, said "it's not enough" and walked away. It was an honest mistake as he knows me quite well but still. That said, as there aren't that many dim sum places in King County, I would definitely give this a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

Nearly as good as the great old places in San Francisco. (Hidden Garden - closed since 1998, or Golden Mountain) Fast, authentic, and crowded. Pretty much your average dim sum, but at a better price than some of the other places. And the sizes of some of their stuff, like Sui Mai, Fried Shrimp Dumplings, and Cilantro and Shrimp Dumplings seem to be a little bigger than the sizes of the dim sum at other places. Restaurant was hot & messy. Waitress walked us to our table while asking if I wanted tea and then suddenly walked away once I said I wanted sweet tea. She comes back with hot tea and says that's all they had and gets irritated that we were requesting for sweet tea. So all she says is "no". I heard about a place in Kent that served dim sum and was anxious to try it out. Who knows - it could possibly save me a drive to Bellevue or International District when I'm craving it. We found it near Kent Station, pretty much in the same block as the St Vincent De Paul thrift shop. Luckily they have their own parking lot, so parking was not an issue, but the restaurant itself seemed pretty small. We were seated pretty quickly and the staff seemed pretty attentive. If not, you can easily pick them out from their very pink shirts and flag them down. Glasses of water were refilled pretty quickly as well. The dim sum carts and trays came by pretty frequently. I like that in a restaurant especially when I come in hungry. The dishes I enjoyed here were the siu mai, shrimp dumplings, tripe, and chicken feet - so pretty much the standard dishes that you'd find in a typical dim sum restaurant. They also have the pork dumplings that I assume are supposed to be prepared similarly to those from Din Tai Fung, but after you've had DTF dumplings, these dumplings were unsatisfactory to me - not enough soup and wrapper was too thick. We also tried some other dishes like the chicken wings and some meatball dish and both of these were things I wish we excluded from our appetite. Oh, and the egg tarts are YUMMY here! The surprising thing about this place is that our tab racked up between my boyfriend and me. I'm not sure if it was because we just eat more than everyone else or maybe it's because we tried one too many special dishes. I was expecting from other reviews that our bill wouldn't be too bad, but I just want to advise that this may not be the place to come and "taste test" in search of good dim sum. In conclusion, I think the dim sum is average and won't prevent me from returning. I would definitely come here for convenience although it would not be my top choice for dim sum if I had a teleportation device that could take me to any other restaurant for dim sum. But, I would definitely stick to just the typical dim sum dishes and avoid trying something new to avoid racking up my tab. read more

First I'd like to talk about the service-- It was WONDERFUL! Our waiter was very attentive, pleasant and the service was fast!! They have a good selection of dim sum items on their dim sum menu, not as many as you'd find in the International district, but enough to suit your needs if you're craving a dim sum fix, like I was!! Additionally, besides Dim Sum, they offer a very extensive menu of all sorts of traditional Chinese dishes (special family meal deals, etc, etc). Here's a tip too, some regular menu items can be ordered in Dim Sum size, instead of the main course/entree size. Ask your waiter, and more than likely they'll accommodate your request, like they did for me. :) This place isn't anything overly fancy, but I did notice was the nicer chopsticks--not just the disposal wood ones. Everything seemed clean too!! All our dishes came out hot, fresh and tasty! I'll come again, especially now that I saw you can order online for pick-up and delivery (delivery are during certain times of the day though). The restaurant itself was clean, and the people working were very nice. They would always take the plates when we were finished, and would always refill our drinks without us having to ask twice. The dim sum was the priority here, and we were not disappointed! My brother and I have been eating Chinese food and dim sum in Chinatown since forever, and it was good to find a place closer to where we live. Bad service. We decided to go to Lucky House for dim sum, I called ahead to ask if they were still serving dim sum. I also asked if they had a lot of selections. The man on the phone bold face lied and said they were serving dim sum and had a lot of selections. When we got there they did not. We only ordered 2 dim sum dishes and he charged us $12.00. Apparently tea is not free. We didn't request tea they just put the pot on our table when we sat. Not once did he look up at me while taking my money. We're not going back. My son visited the bathroom and he said it was a mess. They reused an old Cetaphil bottle as their soap dispenser. We're definitely not going back. read more

Seven months ago, I took a few moments to talk about what I love about Lucky House. And it hasn't changed. Its still my go-to treat every payday, and I've tried every item from the dinner combo menu. Sure, I'm not a fan of the honey walnut shrimp, and I might have had a bad piece of celery in my cashew chicken, but they have some real winners in some of the dishes like the twice cooked pork, the almond chicken, the lo mein, the beef and broccolli, and tons of others. Sometimes they include a fortune cookie, other times they don't, sometimes I get silverware on my takeout, other times I don't. Sometimes the fried rice is better than others, other times, I need my soy sauce packet to moisten it back up... They're human. I expect things to not be robotic and exactly the same. And I love walking in there and seeing the same people and their smiling faces. When I call, they know me because my order is mostly the same and I always get it "with chopsticks." And that makes up for it. Maybe some day I'll head in for dim sum, I read all of the mixed reviews on that and I can only imagine that I'll think its great because I haven't tried it anywhere else. But for me, when I get chinese? I like the Americanized version. I don't care how authentic it is, I want takeout that when I'm sitting back watching football, NASCAR, or movies? I get something that's great tasting and bountiful. Its definitely that, at a fair price on the combos. Alright, here's my experience with the restaurant: We arrived at 6:30pm. The place was quite busy. We got seated and ordered our 3 dishes at 6:45pm: seafood crispy chow mein, roast pork & oyster hot pot, and fried cod in mayonnaise. And then we waited.... And waited..... And waited..... By 7:30pm, I asked our waitperson how long will the food be. She was apologetic and said that she will ask. She came back 10 minutes later and told us that they just started cooking our dishes. Time check: 7:40pm. And so we waited..... Several tables around us got some food but they were also frustrated by how long it took to get the food. So they actually left even before they got all their food. By 8:10pm, we finally got our food. We were so hungry we just shoved the food down as quickly as we could. As for the food, of the 3 dishes, the fried cod in mayonnaise was good. The chow mein and the "hot pot" (which is really more of a casserole dish) was mediocre. I talked to the manager about the situation as we were paying and she said that "everyone came in at once" that is why the food took so long.
