I really do not understand why this place is always packed... The hype about the chicken here makes me laugh. It's so PLAIN and BLAND. There is no sauce or seasoning to flavor it up so my only choice was the honey on the table. Nothing beats a southern style. So I know that people been stating and posting that the place has gone down and way overpriced. Well it's true. It's a old time cafe/restaurant. I respected how it look and how involved the workers were with regulars and elderly. In past. I do not feel welcomed, the redo of front is too much of a caged in feeling instead of welcoming through the door. I prefer classic you know original. Now it seems they try to bring it up to like moose tooth vibe. Well it won't work there. Your father had an idea and that was family and friends feeling welcomed. The food is a bit different. You get less meat for a burger, the chicken is more dry and well it is over priced. I never thought I pay 20.00 for a burger that looks what I make at home in my kitchen. Just the burger. No fries or onion rings. Which is additional 12.00! I'm sorry to say the idea of loving what you have and built with two hands and a passion turned into a company of greed. Wish I could say good things. It's sad cause my wife and I shared our first Valentine's Day here. That was 13 years ago. We come into eat every valentines. And other times also. But this past valentines is the last. We just can't seem to justify spending 60.00 on 2 people for a burger and fries. Plus the service of unhappy waitresses. I'm a long time customer of the Lucky Wishbone, years before the pandemic. I admire the way the Bone ran things during the pandemic, with excellent take out service only. But now that the dining room is once again open, their takeout service has suffered tremendously. Except that the Bone makes the best fries chicken in town, I'm sorely tempted not to get take out from them ever again. From my car in the parking lot, the third time I called (they hung up on me the first two times) I ordered three hot dinners, a large salad and two drinks. When I got the text that my order was ready ( twice as much time as I was told it would take) I was given only the hot food at the pickup window. I had to ask for the drinks. "Oops sorry" she said. And I drove away, wondering why I'd given them such a generous tip. And several blocks away, I realized they had not given me my salad. So I went back and there it was. You'd think that they'd have a better system for takeout, like marking the tab with "3 bags for this order." And checking that the customer got all three parts of their order before they depart. I wish the Lucky Wishbone still took orders in the drive up lane instead of by phone. read more

My Lucky Wishbone go-to is their chef salad w/ranch dressing. Once in a while I get the onion rings, with an extra side of ranch. They are not your average onion ring (which is usually crispy), I don't know what they use but it's a very light & tasty. Crumbles before you even eat the onion ring. read more

Been here more times than I can recall! This southern girl had to come all the way to the Great White North to get real fried chicken! Perfect ratio of seasoned crispy breading to juicy tender meatiness served up on a bed of deliciously salted fries - can one live off of Lucky's fries? Sooooo gooood!!!! But this time I tried the jumbo burger with fries and hot fudge milk shake. It's not flamed broiled, but it hits the spot. Made fresh to order so the meat is juicy and the veggies are still chilled and crisp! And the fries... mmmmm ...friiiiesss...oh yes, the milk shake was chocolate goodness until I kept getting chunks of unmixed malt powder in my straw. Went here for the first time for lunch. I ordered the swiss bacon burger and a 1/2 side of fries, the perfect amount of food for me. I liked the burger so much that I didn't even notice they put mustard in it until I had murdered the whole thing. Delicious! I would suggest not ordering the strawber shortcake dessert. It sounded so good, but really lacked in its delivery. Just a biscuit with ice cream and some strawberry filling, wasn't great. My only complaint was that, in the middle of a busy afternoon one of the serers began to vacuum right next to my table. Like seriously? This IS ALASKAN fried chicken. It is good. It is historic. It has locals. It has soul. Albeit white veteran soul. It has a story. It has 60 years of history. ( the chicken is fresh). The fried chicken is done in a pan. So it's not the super battered deep fryer style chicken That you might be used to. It is lightly breaded and pan fried. It shows in how one side is a bit darker. And because of this it arrives HOT and juicy. Yes the skin is not super crackling crispy. But it's is flavorful. And unique ! The atmosphere is as it should be for an older establishment. Old locals have photos on the wall. Some of the WWII air force veterans are honored, there. It has history. So do the benches from the 80s. And the granite tops from the 90s. But it's all in character. I ordered a meaty momma. Which is three meatier cuts ( 1breast 1 thigh 1 something else. 1/2 breast+wishbone?) it was cooked as described above. And on a bed of shoestring French fries and a cornbread muffin all DELISHIOUS!!!! My other. Had the meaty junior 2pieces. Wishbone and thigh. Same underneath All in all. I'm going to return. I might get a burger. They looked pretty good ! And everybody. Who thinks this is not real fried chicken. Re-think your parameters. And open your minds. This is Alaska. I was a bit hesitant, curious to see if the shakes would live up to the nutella or blueberry pie shakes at Pearl's Deluxe in San Francisco I had been craving(they were on a best thing I ever ate episode on Food Network), and I gotta say they quality of the shakes here are superb, not to mention the wide selection of flavors available. First taste and it was like my mouth hit the megalotto jackpot. Tthey could even rival some at Pearl's, and that's difficult in itself. I haven't been here since I was like 6 so I didn't remember much about this place, but as my sister wanted one last hurrah before diet kick off we heading here for some fried chicken. I got the mom plate and mom got the junior plate. Funny, no? The Mom plate comes with 3 choices of chicken and for a buck more you can choose all white or all dark meat and french fries, but we substituted for coleslaw and ordered milk shakes that did bring all the boys to the yard. I was happy with the quality of the chicken and deep fried skin and spices. Very fattening and filling. Total bill for a chicken sandwich, two mom plates, one junior plate, a side of onion rings, and 3 milk shakes brought the bill to almost $60, which is a little spendy if you're used to KFC prices, but this place is a cut above that fast food joint and shouldn't be lumped with that place or any other chicken joint. read more

A nice and warm restaurant with kind and helpful waitresses, this extremely welcoming hometown diner atmosphere offers the best half-sweet ice tea (if requested) and mashed potatoes with country gravy. The fries are absolutely delicious and crisped to perfection. The burgers and sandwiches were delicious and decently sized. Came in at lunch time and of course this local restaurant was very busy but we were able to be seated fairly quickly. Lucky Wishbone is an Anchorage icon for pan fried chicken and burgers, but in all the years I've lived here I just don't get it. I ordered a Mom meal dark meat with coleslaw and a fresh strawberry shake. The meal ended up costing $21.00. 3 pieces of chicken, one corn muffin and coleslaw. The chicken coating had zero flavor, the chicken inside was ok, the cornbread muffin was really good and the shake is WAY over priced but was tasty. All in all....I still don't see why it's a favorite for chicken....just saying. read more

I would also like to note that they were on top of their game with coronavirus prevention they even had a 4 foot space between the register and pick up counter! This place was hyped up, maybe given too much hype. In a questionable part of town, they have a drive up window where you can order chicken and only chicken to go. Now hear me out the chicken was good. But it wasn't "BEST CHICKEN IVE EVER HAD" good. I'd like to think of myself as a fried chicken expert jk but for what I got I expected more seasoning, more flavor, more something! The chicken came out pipping hot! Which was great. They had a ton of sauce choices too. Just seemed like it lacked seasoning!! Might come back to try the burger? It's still a really popular joint especially with the locals but I can't say I'm a dedicated fan yet. The food was food, grilled cheese & chicken noodle soup. Nothing more, nothing less. I believe the other reviewers when they speak of the fried chicken, but the trip to Anchorage had already been so filled with eating, I just couldn't bear dipping into the Lucky Wishbone in that way. The restaurant is an Anchorage Institution. The zombies who lurk in the surrounding neighborhood scare people off. Our last visit we encountered a zombie honeymoon couple were sitting in the front next to the drive in window. It was a good thing i was wearing my Three Wolf Moon shirt from Walmart (It still had the new Walmart smell), because the zombies looked afraid and fled to the alley on third avenue toward the Brother Francis shelter. I am guessing to go warn all the other zombies of the wolf shirt. We after that strange encounter, the lady and I were promptly seated (wolf shirt people get VIP treatment), I ordered a Pop, a bowl of Chili, a corn bread, and a large Mt Dew. The food came quick and there was a long line at the register to pay, but the crowd must have been wolf shirt fans because they let us go to the front of the line and pay.
