Great food and great service. Happy hour deals are amazing! 3-6 during the week and all day Sunday. The Korean beef tacos are my favorite.

Talk about a restaurant that has gone downhill. Food used to be good but now it is subpar. It took 30 minutes from order to table for the food to come. Way too long for the quality of food that we received. I ordered a taco salad that was underwhelming and lacked flavor. Worst of all, I repeatedly watched the hostess stick her hands into the french fry basket at the open kitchen to have a snack. At no time did she ever wash her hands. There was also the smell of dirty mop water in the air. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear on the news of an E. coli breakout at this restaurant. They have phenomenal food and an awesome happy hour, but the service is crap. The last two times I have been here, the servers have taken forever to take our order. Today we sat down and ordered a drink, the girl tonight brought them right back and expected us to order food right away. We weren't ready to order at the time but 15 minutes later she still hadn't come back to take our order. She walked directly past our table, gave forward, didn't even stop to ask if we were doing alright or were ready to order. There are hardly any people here and the service is still terrible. It's good food. If I was just ranking just the food I would give it a 4 star review but the price of the food is too high. It's high end bar food. I wish they would cut the portion size and the price. Instead of a $15 burger I would rather go somewhere else and get a steak. Please do yourself a favor. Try the fish tacos. They are the best in the Twin Cities. They came with a large piece of Walleye and the most incredible mixture of slaw spicy goodness I've ever had. This is a fun local place in quiet Mendota. Big portions, reasonably priced and a huge selection of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers and bigger meals like walleye and steaks. The food is pretty consistent. The atmosphere is great, the popcorn is free and the drinks are tasty. Bingo on Saturday and Tuesday! Come on Sundays and get the BLT Bloody Mary! We come here often with extended family, kids and adults, as they always seem happy to accommodate our large group! Menu is extensive so plenty to choose from depending on what you're in the mood for. Never had a bad meal, and large portions for the price too. Bar area is nice and large, restaurant area is as well. Love the ambiance of the old historic building with modern vibe. We cannot say enough great things about this lovely place. The food was AMAZING, service...AMAZING...atmosphere...LOVELY. My wonderful hubby threw a surprise party with about 100 guests...everyone was attended to, food was replenished appropriately, the servers MADE ME A BIRTHDAY CARD!!!!! So sweet!. I will start by saying that the only bad thing about this place is that it can be busy and you may have to park a distance from the place. But that is a small price to pay. Today you generally have to choose between getting a big meal (quantity) or getting a really tasty meal (quality) when you find a place like Lucky's you get both. The dinner combos are where you want to look first, and the prices a not bad. They also have a large hamburg and sandwich selection too, with apps you don't see at other places or a unique takes on them. Roll all that together with a unique atmosphere that is laid back and casual. But like I said the only bad thing is the secret is out on this place, it's in a small town of 200 or so people and you may see half the town there, so come early or be ready to what for a seat. read more

My sister came in from out of town and the family got together at Lucky's 13 Pub. My dad is very hard of hearing and we asked them if they could turn the music down a little and they were more than willing to do so, it made it easier for Pop's to hear all our chatter! I don't know what's best with this establishment, the decor where they change it every holiday, the patio with the great fire pit, the bartenders and wait staff, the food and menu, the drinks, I mean the list goes on and on!! The service was fine, with a fun atmosphere but the food was horrible. Three out of the five dinners were basically inedible. The beef brisket sandwich was beef jerky and not possible to chew. The sandwiches also all had stale bread that wasn't toasted. Also the salads were made of shredded iceberg lettuce. read more

The food was good but the service was beyond horrible. Me and my daughter came for breakfast at 10am we were there until 11:30 not by our choice, but because of waiting forever for everything from taking our order to paying our bill. Our waitress kept disappearing our food was even brought out by another person. I even waited for over 10min after asking to get my bill, then another 10 to pay (which I finally had to go to the bar to do) even at the bar the bartender was busy talking to friends so she totally ignored me standing there. A friend and I recently went to Lucky 13 for what we thought would be a late summer patio happy hour on a beautiful night. We were wrong. After being seated on the patio not far from the main entrance door into the restaurant, we were inundated with patrons who came out for a smoke break after eating/drinking inside where smoking is not allowed. The patio was busy, most of the tables outside were not smokers, but this group gathered within 3 feet of our table and a busy group of 7 men turned their backs and butts (literally) to us and began puffing away. After several minutes I summoned the manager, who said she couldn't do anything. Not only were the smokers blocking the door as others came out onto the patio, they were also blowing smoke in all directions and flicking ashes dangerously close to servers bringing our food and drink out the door. Another group of smokers came out onto the patio--not finding available space near the first group, they proceeded to camp out near the far end of the patio and immediately next to another table of two women who were nonsmokers, crowding them out as they tried to enjoy their food and drink. My friend, a recovering breast cancer patient, could not stand the smell nor sight of the smokers literally standing on top our table. Nor could I. After getting no assistance from the manager on duty (who asked me "What do you want me to do?"), the smokers finally went back in, only to come out again a half an hour later and repeat their ritual. I asked the server for our check and explained why we could not eat our food. He graciously apologized (Thank you, Zach!) and offered us a discount of $12 off of a $36 bill. We took it, feeling like we were herded out because non-smokers are more of a nuisance on the patio, which apparently is the doman of Lucky 13 smoking patrons, to the detriment of others. I had offered the manager several ideas on how to "fix" the problem--have smokers stand outside the side of the building (not patio), or near front door (not patio, where dining tables are out during summer). She replied that smokers could not stand on the side of the building where cars were parked. When I asked "Why not?" she said that they "might damage the parked cars with the smoking". Hmmnn, her rationale was interesting--damage cars but not people trying to enjoy their food?????? Didn't make sense and she saw no reason to provide further explanation. Not satisfied with this laissez-faire attitude toward non-smoking patrons at Lucky 13, I called the next day and spoke to another woman who said she was the restaurant's General Manager. After explaining the issue, she said that they didn't normally get complaints about the smoking on the patio, as smokers used it in cold weather. I politely reiterated the fact that most of the patio the previous night was non-smoking, and suggested perhaps they create a smoking side and a non-smoking side of the patio. She didn't think that was an option for the restaurant. While she did apologize, she offered no other options for creating a healthier outdoor eating environment, or even a way to minimize the YUCK factor of eating food that came from inside through a cloud of smoke and ash to get to our table that night. Just a warning -- I don't believe this restaurant is interested in keeping non-smokers happy. I told the General Manager I would never go back after my experience, and also warned her I would let others know. My friend, the breast cancer survivor, doesn't believe she can ever go back to enjoy the patio here either. read more

Met some friends here for dinner Tuesday evening. The place was very crowded at 6:30 when we arrived. I'm not sure why because, as we soon discovered, the drinks are expensive and the food is very mediocre. Noise level was very, very loud and then they started playing bingo. Just what I wanted; sitting in a booth drinking overpriced drinks eating poor food in a noisy environment and then you get blasted out with "B42, G30, etc. I definitely will not be back. We had lunch on 3/14 and for a couple of us it was their first time eating at Lucky's 13 in Mendota. The waiter (Nick) couldn't have been more accommodating! He suggested several of his favorite things and raved about the street tacos. We took his advice and they were fabulous. Have always loved Lucky's. Food is great, huge portions, good service. But tonight the smoking on the patio was nothing short of annoying. Being in Minnesota means short summers and sitting outside is a must. But when a restaurant doesn't impose a no smoking policy on their patio then it's time to eat elsewhere. Sorry. Wow! I can't say enough wonderful things about Lucky 13 and The Mudd Room in Mendota Heights. We held my son's birthday party there and had the most wonderful time! Thank you so much to Heather, Catie (sp?), Taylor, John and Megan and any of the rest of the staff (sorry) who helped us surprise him. Having heard about this being a sister restaurant to Axle's (see my review,) I expected nothing short of great & that is what I got. Everyone is so friendly & it is a chill atmosphere with oldies, rock, lite rock, & a lot of popular music playing,. Our server, Melissa, was so bubbly & energetic, singing along to the music as a lot of them were & very attentive. The walleye cakes were perfectly seasoned with a lite badder & meaty with a lot of wonderful seasonings. The Lucky rolls are crispy & greasless filled chicken & pamento or pepper jack & served with a buffelo sauce; a nice spicy number. The cajon beef tips are perfectly marinaded in spices & love the dipping sauce. Round it off with a local brew & you will not be disappointed. So, for excellent pub fare & a good time, Lucky's 13 cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys. read more

Was in town & wanted to grab some good food before heading home. Was with a friend, and we went here because he likes it. So I was expecting good things. Here are my thoughts on this place, in the order of importance: 1) Food was okay. Nothing great, but not the worst food I've ever had. I ordered a corned beef reuben because I have a weakness for good reubens. This was not one of those. While they did not skimp on the portion of corned beef, I'm guessing they use a cheaper cut (like a point cut) because their corned beef was full of gristly fibers. I've had much better corned beef elsewhere. 2) Service was very good. We sat at the bar, and the woman behind the bar was very attentive to us, checking on us often, refilling beers, etc.... Excellent service. 3) Ambiance/decor was very cool. It has an historic old inn feel about it, which was nice. They also had several TV's up playing sports. It was not overly loud, so they have done something to handle the noise levels becuase it was crowded, but could still easily carry on a conversation within our group. 4) Price/Value - was not so good. The sandwiches were $14 to $17 each, but they are just sandwiches. For what we got, it was overpriced, especially since the quality of the corned beef was so bad. In summary, it's one of those places where I would be hesitant to recommend it to anyone, but I'm sure that others have had better experiences than I did. So it may work out just fine for someone else who does not order the reuben. But next time I'm in town, I'll try somewhere else. read more

I went specifically to enjoy the patio, it was a beautiful evening. The smoking made the patio intolerable and my companion felt sick. I know it isn't against the law to allow smoking on the patio, but the smoke of even one smoker (there were several tonight) filled the entire area. What a waste. read more

I have been to lucky 13 at least a half dozen times. This is the 1st time over lunch hour. Staff was excellent. We had a party of 6 and were seated right away. I had the walleye sandwich (pan fried ) and the turkey wild rice soup. Very disappointed with both. The walleye was not a fillet, but 3 small pieces like they use for walleye finger appetizers. The bun was dry, stale like and over sized. The soup , which said turkey wild rice, had chunks of ham in it. Big turnoff. Others in my party were disappointed as well. If I do return, it will be for drinks and appetizers. To over priced for a bad sandwich. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat. I love the ambiance, the live music, and the food selection. You can eat typical bar type food or step it up with walleye spring rolls. Over the last 6 months Luckys Mendota has really gone down hill. Every time we order out for lunch either something is wrong, something is missing or both! When it's brought to their attn you never get an apology they always come up with some excuse or even blame it on you. Their Prices keep going up while the quality of the food seems to be going down it's no where near as good as it used to be. We won't be back anytime soon. We will give them a few months and see if things turn around. Remember your customers are more important than your pride! You do make mistakes so live up to them apologize and make changes for the better. read more

Our go to spot great food good selection of beer house wine is fine even when they have a long line you can still get in pretty quickly. All the food is fantastic. Went there yesterday for lunch. Have to say i was not impressed with the service at all. I watched as tables that came in after us were served before us. Also, is it really that hard to serve a table of 5 all their food at once. They brought out the first three orders together then two of us had to wait 15 minutes to get our order. It wasn't like the order that we were waiting for should have taken that long to make, a cup of soup and half of a grill cheese sandwich and a BLT. Not impressed at all. read more

WHAT HAPPENED? went to Lucky 13 today and was completely disappointed. The food was terrible. This was not the first time we had been here, but it may be the last. The food lacked any flavor, it was not even served at the proper temperature - hot food was definitely not hot when it got to the table. None of the diners in my party had any luck with their meal. I am not sure if they switched suppliers, or if they got new chefs but the execution was horrible. I get that it is not haute cuisine, but that makes my point even more clear, it should not be that hard to make bar food at a minimum edible read more

Fun environment but super hard to get a table without waiting (45 min) during popular times on a Friday or Saturday. Have to say--The garlic burger is inedible. I LOVE garlic and have never tasted anything near the taste of this. I'm typically NOT a complainer but the tots were too funky for me too....nothing like bulldogs tater tots. Anyway, will go for a cocktail in the future if there is a seat available without waiting but otherwise I'm taking a break. read more

It does get quite crowded, but it is a nice place though. Do NOT go there with a large group (over 6) as, I agree, it will be a LONG wait. They should take reservations for larger groups! Food is on par with Champps, not great, not bad. Nice atmosphere. Bonfire outback is (with big screen TV) a nice touch. It is a pub, though, so don't expect Axl's or Major's type service/food. read more
