Wow this place is absolutely fabulous! I would definitely recommend for breakfast/brunch with a party of about 2-4 people!! Since it's very small, I wouldn't recommend for groups due to the speed of the kitchen and the small space. With this being said, you will definitely need to expect a bit of a wait time for food and possibly to be seated but it is WELLL worth the wait!!! This is a cute little spot in Roscoe Village. They have vegan options which is really convenient. I ordered the raspberry pancakes (recommended by a Yelper ) and they were delicious! My only lack of a star was it took a half hour for the waitress to come over and take our order. We were one of the first groups to arrive before the rush and she took everyone else's orders that came in after us before taking ours. Nice little cozy spot. The owner is super friendly and even recommended a few things off the menu. We started with chai tea. It was an amazing cup of tea. My partner said it was the best chai she ever had. She also had the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was spot on. Her only complaint was the eggs were not poached. She was looking for the runny yolk but it was hard. Other than that,she was in heaven. I had the ultimate combo meal. Everything was good. Pancake was delicious. We also had the French toast flight. The toast was nice and thick and not smothered in toppings. However, I thought it could've used a bit more topping. I don't like it smothered but I would like more than 2 blueberries or raspberries. This place is amazing. 100% vegetarian with an extensive vegan menu as well, but they're not big-box style. It's still a sit-down restaurant. Their food is the opposite of bland - Everything is spiced to perfection. Their vegan French toast is some of the best French toast I've ever had in my life, vegan or not. Honestly, the french toast here might be the best french toast I've ever had. The faux-sausage and gouda omelette is also killer. The staff is always super friendly and are really sweet to my 5 year-old daughter. The cafe itself is clean and really nice. I really love eating here. Everything was good. Order came as expected. Delivery was speedy. But the menu was very confusing and VERY unclear. It needs a lot of updating and clarification. Spoke with the owner and was told our issues had happened before but he never said anything about making menu adjustments. Ordered a combo that came with real egg/cheese but came with vegan bacon but wasn't labeled as vegan on the menu online; also ordered the Sowthwest skillet which is labeled 'Vegan. Gluten free' AFTER the description but comes with real egg/cheese/Mayo as the default but doesn't say that this NEEDS to be altered to be vegan. The descriptions and it's vegan labeling for vegan options and menu items on multiple platforms need to updating and clarification. Uploaded photo of the skillet option online for reference. Think of the worst service you've ever had, multiply it by 10000, and it's this place. If you're not willing to wait 2 hours for food that tastes like it's been sitting out for hours and HORRIBLE service, do not waste your time coming here. My boyfriend and I visited for a the first time this past Saturday very excited to try. We were sat right away and then sat for 30 minutes before someone ever came up to our table. Our server was very unhelpful and was not apologetic in any way. We put our orders in right away and then waited an 1+ for our food to come out. During that time, our server never came up to our table to refill water or see how we were doing. After our food came out, the cheese on the Southwest Skillet was not even melted and the vegan meat tasted like dog food. My boyfriends order was 3 eggs and a side of potatoes and somehow took 20 minutes longer to come out? We were so frustrated with the service, food, and experience that we just wanted to leave and go somewhere else that was atleast pleasant as we were starving at this point. It took us 15 minutes to get the servers attention to please cash us out. We were clearly upset and had not touched our food and our server did not ask us how our experience was, how the food was, or how she could make it better. She simply dropped the check and walked away. I am so disappointed with this as it was something I was really looking forward to. Needless to say, do NOT come here. My husband and I had been going to Victory's Banner for years, so we were quite concerned when we learned several years ago that it had been sold and had new owners. I'm happy to report that it is still a wonderful place to eat! For a long time I ordered the soup and salad combo because the soups are always really good and I like their salads. One day I decided on a whim to order the coconut-peanut wrap. It is soooooo good that I now order it almost every time I go, even though I tell myself beforehand that I should really enjoy some of the other dishes. The vegan chocolate muffins, which are now made in-house, are also exceptional. Lucy and Martin, the new owners, are lovely people and clearly care a great deal about the quality of the food and the entire dining experience. They totally understand what it means to eat a plant based diet, and will modify whenever possible, and it's almost always possible. I'm very glad that Lucy's Cafe has carried on many of the Victory's Banner traditions, and equally glad that they have made the restaurant their own. Have lived in Roscoe village for over 2 years and haven't been to Victory's Banner -now Lucy's Cafe and I regret not coming sooner. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodated our changes to the order easily. I got the bacon cheeseburger and was not sure what to expect from the veggie burger and veggie bacon but it was outrageously good. I subbed the normal mayo for chipotle mayo and it exceeded all expectations that I had. It tasted like a very good meat burger. The side potatoes were very well seasoned also. My girlfriend got the sun dried tomato and pesto scramble in an omelette instead and it was delicious.
