Unlike other banhmi's the accompanying ingredients were pickled sprouts, thinly sliced spicy pickled carrots, cucumber, jalapeno, and cilantro. Their aioli really brought everything together. I would have preferred it sliced in half so I could share with a friend who ordered a different sandwich. $12 Lemongrass Chicken Bahnmi ....this might sound gross but I literally regurgitated because it tasted terrible. The lemongrass flavor/sauce was just TOO overpowering and the soggy chicken was just weird. The restaurant is TINY, enough for 8 people-ish sitting uncomfortably. If I lived closer I would try it out again because I really enjoyed the brisket. The traffic, tough parking, no bathroom situation is what's keeping me from coming here again. Last thing, when I ordered the Vietnamese coffee the cashier said "no." Ohhhkay? Scuse me? So I asked if they ran out, they answer again was "no." I have never been inside Lucy's but I am a frequent Uber eats user- let me just say, they don't do much here , but what they do, they do it well! I love love LOVE the smoked brisket, either in the sandwich or as the soup with noodles( can't remember the name at the moment lol)! It's nicely smoked, juicy and I mean just YUM! And it's consistently yummy in my tummy, veggies are always fresh and the carrots nicely marinated. One star off for the lemon grass chicken, a bit meh to me- we have tried several times and it did not impress- also the vegan option was kinda alright but gurlll that Brisket is banging! I came to Lucy's specifically for the brisket banh mi, and I'll admit, I was definitely doubting that a tiny Vietnamese place was going to have good brisket. And damn, was I wrong. Fear not people, the brisket here is on point, so much so that I would say it's better than some BBQ places in the area. The brisket had a great smoke to it, and it was moist and fatty (in a good way.) The rest of the sandwich did a great job of complimenting the brisket. The sauce was delicious, and the bread was light and airy, definitely not your generic hero bread here. The pickled vegetables were, well, vegetables, nothing remarkable there, but they did a good job of cutting through all the meat and sauce. As it has been noted, the place is tiny, just one table. Since we have been raving about this place to everyone we know. They have slow cooked meat that are served in large chunks, not chopped up whispers of meat and is tender, seasoned perfectly and a celebration of fireworks in your mouth as you take each bite. Not your traditional banh mi, but that doesn't necessarily equate to bad. The lemongrass tofu banh mi was pheNOMenal except for some minor details. Having pho condiments in the sandwich was a bit peculiar (e.g. bean sprouts and Thai basil leaves). I understand why they're in the pho banh mi, but the tofu banh mi? Also, it would be nice if there was an alternative for the garlic aioli for non garlic lovers (maybe Veganaise?). The execution of the tofu made the sandwich for me. The cut and assembly of it made the texture meaty instead of spongy, which I really enjoyed and isn't the case at most banh mi joints. Further, it was very flavorful and pan-fried perfectly. Another element that won me over was the baugette - it was soft yet crunchy and not dense. Kevin displayed exceptional customer service as he was very friendly and accommodating. He checked with his colleagues several times to ensure no garlic aioli was in my sandwhich - too bad it was still included, but it's the effort that counts. Crazy, you say? Eating pho in 90 degrees weather is not ideal. I couldn't agree more. This small boutique Vietnamese place does not offer an extensive menu, but rather a simple selection of items that don't make you scratch your head when deciding what to get. I was pretty stubborn and wanted pho after not having it for a long time. I opted in for the smoked brisket pho. It is served with mushrooms and bok choy in the broth. I have never seen any other place include these ingredients. The broth is very very clear and does not leave the aftertaste when you need to drink a lot of water to quench your thirst. The smoked brisket is also a fairly new concept since this would actually be my very first time having pho like this. The downside about this place is that there is no AC. So don't make the mistake that I made, unless you're the type of person who can enjoy hot food in hot sweating weather or just looking to sweat up a storm then feel free to help yourself. read more

One of the things that I miss the most (if not the ONLY thing) about living in California is the bountiful supply of authentic and delicious Vietnamese restaurants. Here in New York, while there are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants, the decent options are so limited that I can count the hoard with just one hand. It seems that no one can do the pho broth correctly, either too bland or too salty. And then came Lucy's. They serve, by far, the best bowl of pho that I've tasted on this side of the country. What surprised me even more was that the broth was brewed entirely with vegetables. I'm not sure how's that even possible but the chefs at Lucy's can make a mean vegetable-based broth that will give the traditional beef-broth a run for its money. Meat-lovers, fret not. Lucy's will top your bowl of pho with generous portion of tender slow-smoked beef brisket. Two of my favorite things, BBQ and pho, finally joined together in holy gastronomy. The idea is so awesome that they even make a banh mi version and call it pho banh mi...genius! I'm optimistic that this restaurant will bring great things to the Vietnamese restaurant scene here in Brooklyn and NYC as a whole. Oh baby, or should I say oh banh mi? How have I put off eating at Lucy's for so long? Just a few minutes walk from the Myrtle-Wycoff train station, this place is a flavorful gem for sure. It's a tiny little place, so prepare to come at off-hours (we came around 4p and it was fairly vacant) or to take your food to go. Fair warning though, once you smell the flavorful broths and spices, you won't want to walk out without taking a bite or sip. Rus and I got the number one and two to share (that's the pho -- we got ours with chicken -- and the pho banh mi). The food was served pretty quickly after we ordered and paid (cash only, though they do have a fairly low-fee ATM). OMG this banh mi though. The bread was so perfect. Not too crunchy (I hate when bread cuts the roof of your mouth! No problems with that here), but the perfect balance between a flaky outside and soft inside. It also tasted kind of like a subtly seasoned garlic bread. Yum! The brisket was delicious, almost smoky, so much piled onto the sandwich. Definitely try this one if you're a meat eater (and heads up that they do have a veggie sandwich & pho option). Rus' pho was great too. The broth was so aromatic, couldn't stop drinking it. The chicken was moist and tender (not dried out at all). Was searching for some dinner takeout on yelp, something nearby, quick and tasty, I decided on Lucy's Kitchen. I never tried banh mi and figured this was the moment. My first impression of the space is that it was really tiny and indeed a kitchen, but that was fine by me because I was taking it to go. First impression of the staff was that they were definitely the late shift youngsters. The teenage looking girl took my order, and while I waited, she held personal conversations with her other teenaged looking coworkers. She casually berated them about their schedules and school work as if I wasn't sitting in the 200 sq ft space with them. She was being a bit of a mean girl right in front of me. Awkward. WHAT WE GOT: We got a lemongrass chicken banh mi, a brisket banh mi and a pho soup with brisket. First of all, the portions are generous. When my boyfriend and I got our food, we realized we should have gotten one banh mi with the soup. We're pretty greedy but one would've been sufficient for both of us. The soup is also really big - they packaged the noodles and meat separately which was good. END RESULT: The brisket was a million times better than the lemongrass chicken. We took one bite out of the chicken banh mi and ended up dumping it. The chicken was cold and the texture was really off putting (slimy and ground). The lemongrass flavor also didn't help. I highly recommend getting the brisket over the chicken. The brisket was tender with great flavor and a touch of spice. The only thing I would change about the banh mi in general is take out the bean sprouts - it did nothing for the sandwich. Overall, meh experience with my first time having a banh mi. read more

Lucy's is really good, still not the BEST I've ever had, but then again I'm biased and grew up on homemade pho. They also add their own little twist to it. Get the pho and eat it there...it's best when it's as fresh as you can get it. The thing that makes Lucy's different is that their pho uses a vegetable broth (mushroom-based). Most places use a beef broth. They have some depth to their broth which most other places don't. The other places tend to have top notes, but nothing beyond that...and at first, the vegetable broth throws you for a loop, but you get used to it really fast. They really only have 2 things on the menu: pho & banh mi (you can get either with smoked brisket, chicken or tofu). I ordered the smoked brisket pho to stay and got a lemongrass chicken banh mi to go (a girl needs lunch the next day). The pho bowl, at first glance, seems small and not quite filling until you're staring at the bottom of the bowl and there's nothing left but the rub on your smoked brisket. My friend got the tofu pho (which is also good, but if it's your first time, definitely go with the smoked brisket). The banh mis we had for lunch the next day...I had the chicken and my friend got the pho banh mi (smoked brisket, hoison, siracha and the usual other stuff). Both were good and I think they actually gave me tofu instead of chicken, but in banh mis the ho banh mi is still the way to go. That smoked brisket though! (the kicker would be if their did a french dip pho bahn mi - dipping your pho banh mi in their vegetable pho broth). As for seating, there's only 1 communal table that maybe fits 6-8 people max. TLDR: definitely check this place out and either get the smoked brisket pho or the pho banh mi. read more

There is a lovely homemade ambience in this small, one table restaurant with family pictures adorning one wall and art, painted by one of the co-owners, on the other. Keep in mind this place is primarily for take out orders. They only have pho and bahn mi on their menu, try both! Chicken Banh mi had the bread overpower other ingredients thus lacking in flavor. I was mostly tasting and filling myself up with the bread. I also find the pricing for Banh mi to be too high. I'm not used to paying over $10 for a Banh mi, especially if I find it lacking in flavor. I hope they find a better solution. Space is small but cozy and staff is very friendly. Speaking of the menu, they only do a few things, and they do them right. Both the Pho and the Banh Mi's are marvelous, with crisp, tasty vegetables, killer broth, soft and crispy bread, and I'm going to stop before I salivate all over my keyboard. Needless to say, this is a spot that does everything right. It may have a limited menu and might be in a small space, but those are two things which I think work to Lucy's advantage.
