Che fai, Lui Lui? You were always a little too saucy, a little too spicy for my taste. Was this just the mid-week jitters? Last night's dinner was saved only by a generous amount of rum, a pleasant wait staff, and the creme brule. Service, as always, was superb. The right balance of friendliness and distance. We want to be attended to, not smothered. Drinks (a soda water w/lime for me and a "Dark and Stormy" for the husband) were slow to arrive. But the generous amount of rum made up for the wait. The D&S was accompanied by a nearly full can of ginger beer because the glass was already pretty full of rum. I was driving. No worries. Enjoy your drink, Dear. Rolls were okay. Dipping sauce -- when augmented with black and red pepper was still bland. We tried an appetizer from the specials list -- Italian nachos. A huge serving of flavorless fried, puffy pasta triangles with olives, tomato, sausage, and a cheese sauce. Husband like it. Too much going on for me. Sausage is too rich for a creamy sauce -- kinda of reminded me of a dinner version of sausage gravy. Two garden salads came before the entrees (and included in the price). The Italian dressing tastes about as cheap as it gets. That bitey, too vinegary, yellow stuff with red flakes. Able to eat around it for a nice salad that had shredded cheese, peppers, tomato and cukes atop fresh greens. Husband had chicken parm which came with a side of penne & marinara. The piece of chicken was huge -- about the size of your face. The server said it was the largest she had ever seen. I had a bite -- a bit salty for my taste. I ordered the veal piccatta. There was an extra charge to have spaghetti rather than penne. And it wasn't good. A little underdone with way to much sauce. I've yet to find a red sauce at Lui Lui's that I like. But the veal -- ouch. Two pieces of veal in a pool of sauce. It looked like soup. The flavors were right. However, I had to ask the server to bring an extra plate because if I tried to cut the veal, the "soup" would have splattered all over me. The breading had come off the veal (it stood no chance in the lemon bath), and the meat seemed a little underdone in parts. Dessert -- finish on a strong note. My husband had the always heavenly white chocolate creme brule. I have had others creme brules. I have had other white chocolate creme brules. None holds a candle to Lui Lui's. I ordered the tiramisu. And it was pretty darn good! Overall, I think this was just an off night. Maybe an inexperienced chef. We've been coming to Lui Lui's for years and will be back. read more

There was so much wrong, I have to think that this restaurant was simply having a terrible night. Either that, or their cook has a personal vendetta against their customers. Drinks/Appetizers: I ordered a watermelon mojito nd a coke zero, received a watermelon-ish mojito with a half a mint leaf. It was laced across the top with rum (an old bartending trick), but otherwise completely tasteless. I passed it back to the server and re-ordered the coke zero. The calamari appetizer was breaded rubber. Calamari should be firm, not chewy. Entrees: Gluten-free from a box The menu made a big deal of labeling gluten free pastas and dishes, and we were excited about that, since someone in our party had an allergy. The pasta tasted like it was box-bought and hastily boiled, and the shrimp was the only edible thing on the plate, which was also returned to the kitchen. I ordered the "homemade" lasagna after verifying with the server that it was made on-site in the last 48 hours. What I received was a piece of compressed ricotta and noodles, immersed in a soup of meat sauce. Not using hyperbole when I say that the sauce gave me almost immediate heartburn (I have no heartburn issues) and nauseated me almost to the point of being physically ill. It tasted thawed, not fresh. At the end of the "dinner", the price point for the value we received was the final nail in the coffin. A sixty dollar check AFTER the gf pasta and mojito were removed from the bill. I think my date said it best "It's more expensive than Chili's with about half the quality" I won't go back. read more

Picked up dinner from here last night. I hadn't been since they closed for renovations for awhile and honestly everything looked the same. I didn't go downstairs into the bar area so maybe it changed, but the dinning room looked exactly the same. Even the giant fork with the rope lights that are supposed to look like spaghetti wrapped around was still there. I had the Italian sampler platter to start and probably wouldn't get it again. The zucchini fries were tasty, but the rest was average to blah. For pizza I got a Rocchio which was Italian sausage, roasted red peppers and caramelized onions. Service is good however the food misses on just about every level. Ordered the grilled chicken Tuscany. Very heavy on the charcoal grill taste, very little taste of anything else. The supposed crispy red potatoes, looked and tasted more like regular russet and were so crispy they should have called them wedge French fries. The vegetable was cold in spots and barely warm everywhere else. Wine was extremely over priced and of very poor quality. For example the 14 hands cabernet is a $8.99 bottle at retail, so at wholesale/case they're paying closer to $6.50 for a bottle By the "glass" here it's $9.00. I've had to complain there numerous times over the last 2 years about their getting orders wrong for take out. The slip is correct, contents are not. Tried them again tonight as it has been a while. Yup, they screwed up the order. Paid extra to add mushrooms to the Penne with Sausage & Onions. Got 4 mushroom pieces, and NO Sausage at all. Come on, its in the name of the dish. After 2 years of these constant problems with take out with them they still fail almost as often as they get it right. I've never had a bad meal here. First off, they start with warm rolls and oil to dip. They also have a brick oven, that serves excellent pizzas, and the salads are HUGE. I recommend the usual pasta and meatballs. The macaroni and cheese is awesome (I'm very picky with man and cheese) they serves it baked with crumbs on top. You can get it with Buffalo chicken or pulled pork. If you're like me, I only like cheese lasagna and this place has a great one. Though my family and I have LOVED coming here for years for the food, my phone call to make a reservation for a large party has made me want to change that opinion. I called to make a reservation for my family which would be a party of 11. The girl who answered the phone was EXTREMELY RUDE for the whole call! First, I was told "we ONLY do call a heads 30 mins before arrival on the day" I asked if this also included large parties. She said "Yes unless it's a party greater than 10" I told her my party was going to be 11 people and she just sighed (like one of those teenager attitude sighs) and said "JUST CALL BACK ON THURSDAY" and HUNG UP. I didn't even get a chance to ask for a manager before she hung up. If you're looking for good food, this is the place. However, if you're going to have a large party and not getting it catered, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Obviously they don't want large parties to eat off their amazing menu. I am giving Lui Lui 4 stars not because they serve amazing food but because we had really great service. I was in a party of 4 adults and 4 children, two of which were in high chairs. The staff was very accommodating and it was a good place to have lunch with the kids. We stuck to the pizza and salad. Pizza was decent, out salads were much better (we had the cranberry walnut with gorgonzola and roasted veggie salad). Floor under our table was disgusting, the better half of a salad and birthday candles all smashed up. Pretty dead too- lots of empty tables when we got there. Couldn't sit down as one of the chairs was really broken, hostess walked around us passing out our menus and completely ignored it. After trying to get her attention we just swapped out a chair ourselves. Waitress was friendly and efficient, she lugged the chair off to the back someplace... Food was okay, Caesar salad was served with a really thick mayonnaise based dressing which was not too tasty. The rolls were hot and fresh. My chicken parmesan was pounded extremely thin and was pretty dry, although everyone seemed to enjoy their meals-lasagna, meatballs, and the taste of Italy trio. I like this place, and I've been probably at least seven times. The menu, for one, is great, and has a lot of variety. My personal favorite is the Penne Diavolo, but I don't know if it's on the menu anymore. Nevertheless, I asked the waitress about it, and she said that they could still make it without the tomatoes, because there was that E.coli scare at the time. But I love the menu there because I can't tell you how sick I am of going to Italian restaurants and their pasta selection consists of chicken parm, shrimp scampi, and spaghetti and meatballs. Please put something different on the menu. Thank you. My waiters/waitresses have always been great, from what I can remember. My brother has Down's Syndrome, and more recently, my whole family went here for lunch one time. The waitress was very friendly and she brought up that she has a niece that also has Down's. She also made recommendations and told us her favorites. I think this is nice because if you work here all the time, you eat the food all the time, and you know the food better than a lot of people. The first thing i liked about this place is the warm freshly baked bread and olive oil that they give for starters. Even though it took sometime to get the bread, it was worth the wait as it was freshly baked and it filled us up. We had the Eggplant pizza which was nice. I think Lui Lui is a decent Italian chain. They have fair priced drinks and entrees. Every time I have been there the service has always been good. They also have a lot of gluten free options for people that have an allergy or sensitivity. The location is prime given it is near the mall and south Nashua. It's just passable. Family friendly, but odd interpretations of standards. E.g., chicken Marsala was a milky (like, watery milky) sauce with a hint of Marsala, large chicken chunks, some sliced mushrooms, and prosciutto. My wife ordered some kind of lemon cream pasta and ended up requesting lemon slices to punch it up. Plenty of kid's menu choices. Friendly staff. Perhaps the managers should send the chefs to an Italian restaurant or two for inspiration or, frankly, reminders of how it ought to be done. read more

Came here with a friend on a pretty busy Friday night. We had really excellent service that went above and beyond (my friend was suffering from a cough and eventually a nose bleed and the gentleman flew to get her tea and later napkins with utmost respect and concern). The atmosphere is really nice, warm and cozy, even if you're at a table in the middle of the dining room. There is a large brick oven that you can see and watch the chefs do their thing around. Everyone looking clean and professional. The small rolls they serve you with oil were pretty good. For the meal I had a sausage, pepper, and feta flat bread pizza for about 10 dollars and it was pretty darn delicious. At 7:24 pm on Sunday I ordered a meatball appetizer and a buffalo tender appetizer. When the food was delivered I got the tenders and a full order of chicken broccoli ziti with 1 meatball in it, which looked as though the tomato sauce had been rinsed off of it. We'd not been here for a while (and had never liked this location, even though we always enjoyed the West Lebanon store) so when Lui Lui reopened after having to do some repair work we thought we'd give them another chance. Not a success, no changes at all, either to the menu or the service. Lui Lui clearly subscribes to the quantity over quality strategy. I ordered a chicken and prosciutto Marsala which came in a huge bowl - enough to feed a family of four. Anyway, taking my life in my hands I went for it - ugh! Huge bowl of basically tasteless stodge - really nasty. You know how some meals seem to get bigger if you try and eat some - this was the classic example. Last time I go there I'd say! read more

I really hate to do this. I used to love this place. The drinks were fabulous, food excellent, and was our favorite date night location. But tonight, our third time trying consecutively, the drinks were exceedingly sub par, and the food was bland. We stayed in the bar area, and the ambiance was nice, as normal, and bartenders were polite, though busy and rushed. We ordered 2 drinks off the menu which were just "eh," then a few we asked them to make "Washington apple" and a "gin, st Germaine and lime juice,", which were both better than the menu drinks but still made badly. Food was a make your own Flatbread, where they forgot two ingredients, and I got the lui lui special (garlic lemon sauce over chicken, broccoli and penne), which used to be my fav dish but was dry and tasteless. I wish I can like this place again, but this is now the 4th time. Food was ... fair, drinks sub par. Hope it improves again, but will be a while before we are back, might need a large gift card :-) read more

Being Italian and growing up with grandma's cooking I am pretty picky when it comes to Italian food. Lui Lui's is one of the places I enjoy going. The food is very good and the portions are usually large, the smallest portion I ever had was likely what I "should" have been eating in the first place. Prices are average for the area. I can understand how the wait staff could become "overwhelmed" as it sometimes gets very busy. We try to avoid weekend nights after 5 and all weekends during Christmas season. Wait times during this period are not compatible with two kids under 5. But I have never had a problem with the staff and often receive outstanding service. I should also mention, you can call ahead I think up to 1 hr (the larger the party the earlier you can call and still get away with it.) Their specials are usually delicious and I tried their pizza (when I stole some from my son) for the first time several weeks ago; it was great. The pasta and sauce is average, but it's a filler anyway. The rolls are made fresh and their dipping oil has a good flavor, great when augmented with some fresh black pepper and crushed red pepper. This is a great place for kids too. They give them some uncooked pizza dough to play with along with the usual crayons. I also noticed (not sure if this is a policy) that they often put us downstairs during "adult" dinner times with the other families. While we miss the view, it's nice to know my son being loud isn't really disturbing that 3 year old at the other table being loud too. (Parents can relate to this.) This is one of the best options on the "shopping strip" in Nashua. It's one of those places you feel like not everyone knows about despite it being right out in the open. So we'll continue to enjoy this "hidden" gem and we hope you do too (just don't make the wait longer for us please.) read more

Having grown up eating Italian almost everyday thanks to my Italian parents and having traveled to Tuscany twice so far, I consider it my favorite genre of food. Really, it's tough to screw up pizza and pasta since they are both comprised of such delicious ingredients. But I have to say that I am still salivating at the mere thoughts of their eggplant rollatini and margherita pizza! I attended a wedding rehearsal dinner there and was impressed from the word "go." The red walls, Dean Martin's voice and the tiramisu were enough to sell me on a 5 star review. Few great restaurants remain in Nashua, and even fewer still in the south end, but Lui Lui's is definitely my favorite. The best destination for lunch or dinner usually right when I get off the bus to Nashua, I just love this place. They've redone the sign on top and the menu has slightly fewer options, but I made sure this was the first place I went after Tina promised to take me out to lunch. It didn't disappoint. This place is always great. I got a chicken parm panini on their lunch menu. Days later, I'm still dreaming about it. Probably hands down, my favorite place in Nashua. Not as fancy as Michael Timothy's, this place gets the job done for a more affordable price. Lunch on a Friday afternoon was also very uncrowded, and the waitstaff is always top shelf. This is the number one place to go if you're ever in the buttcrack that is Nashua, NH. If for anything, just go for those rolls and the dipping sauce they give you at the beginning. The rolls are to die for! It's a small restaurant but had no problem getting in for lunch around 1:30 on Columbus Day. They were still serving their summer sangria in October along with their Pumpkin Martini, Spider Margarita, and Kettle Bloody Mary. I had the Margharita mini pizza and it was perfect. Just the right amount of fresh basil, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and the crust very crispy. They put freshly grated parmesan cheese too. I would definitely come back when in Nashua. read more

Decent food and they even have a gluten free menu if you need it. Great place to go with a couple people, grab a pizza and some drinks and you'll have a good time. However, if you have a group of five or more for some reason the waitresses become really rude. It seems as if you are a huge burden and they would rather do anything else but help you. I understand a large group can be overwhelming but this has happened to me every time I have gone here with a group of five or more people. It made me uncomfortable at how differently I was treated and made me not really want to bring my business there. Like I said though you have a few people and want a good pizza it's great to stop in. Very hometown feeling to this place. Good service, great food, and outstanding prices! Ordered the Alfredo chicken and I must say that the sauce was perfect! The chicken was cooked nicely. Best come hungry because the service size is very generous. We arrived at Lui Lui around 4:30 on a very rainy afternoon. Tired from the drive and rugby game earlier, this place was a beacon of light in our day. Didn't have to wait more than 3 minutes for a seat but it we would have arrived 30 minutes later, it would have been a much longer wait. Even with the restaurant filling up, it never got to noisy for us to carry on a conversation without raising our voices. Just left Lui Lui wood fire pizza restaurant without eating our dinner because my husband found a piece of plastic in his salad which is so gross.. The manger came by and gave us an excuse that it's from the salad bag but No thank you, I just wanted to leave and she seem to get upset at the fact we didn't want are entrées and told us to wait for are waiter.She didn't even Comp the two lemonade!! The worst part of this is a restaurant is supposed to clean all their lettuce and vegetables to make sure there's no bugs and bacteria in it.. so this just goes to shows you that they didn't clean any lettuce or vegetables!!! I've been going here, off and on, over the years, and I'd say it's gone downhill. Pizzas are good, pasta entrees are large and tasty. They used to have an outstanding antipasto (now ho hum) and a dynamite dipping sauce for their fresh rolls. Now it's boring, but the bread is still good.
