I'm not sure what all the great reviews for this place are about. Painfully average sandwich at a painfully overpriced cost. The soda collection is rather impressive but that's where it ends. Love grabbing a sandwich here. I've visited multiple times since moving to Martinez. I never have any complaints.

I've been to Luigi' s before and it was very good but there is new staff since I've been There. My daughter and I both filled out our order forms and handed them to the young worker and got chips and a drink. We sat down and waited. The staff was just talking the whole time and we sat for a little over 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches! I went over to check on the progress and they hadn't even started so I asked if our sandwiches were being made and they said they had no memory of us handing them our order slips. I had jury duty and needed to find a place to eat. After wandering around I found this place. The service was slow to order and the guy behind the counter was semi pleasant. So why did I give it 4/5. The food was actually good. I had the special which was a poor boy sandwich for $5.99. It was really good. Good BBQ sauce and cheese and it was heated. This sandwich was really a nice surprise!!! I will for sure go back next week when I continue my week on jury duty. read more

Great place! Traveling through with a large group (20ish) needing a quick affordable stop. Staff was fast, efficient, and very friendly. Multiple bread options, variety of meats, condiments, cheeses,and veggies. Build your own option was the way to go. Sun-dried tomato pasta salad was delicious. read more

No thanks and went there for a sandwich with no bread and ended up getting a salad I did not want and last time I went the lady made we a lettuce wrap and this time the guy said he could not make it so he gave me a salad and said have a nice day. I have been to Luigi's a couple of times and it is a very simple one stop shop. Unfortunately the prices are that of a fancy New York City delicatessen. Let me start by saying this place has really good sandwiches. While waiting for your sandwiches, you kind of feel like you're in the twilight zone though. So, it's a Saturday afternoon, there are no other customers when you walk in and there are 3 employees. We order our sandwiches and they don't have any sourdough, bacon, red peppers and something else we wanted to order. We wander around waiting for our sanwiches and it literally takes forever. I look over behind the counter and theres one person making sandwiches, one guy just standing there talking to the girl making the sandwiches and one person doing something with the prepared foods. By this time around 15 minutes have gone by and i'm wondering why the heck this guy is just standing there talking to the girl making the sandwich. Your coversation is making her move really, really slow. A few minutes later, she calls my name and I'm thinking "YES, finally i can eat!" but no, only 1 of our 2 sandwiches is done. A family comes in and orders a couple sandwiches and the dad just stands near us waiting. Another guy comes in and orders a hot sandwich. The guy who's sitting there chatting up the sandwich lady makes the guys hot sandwich calls his name and that guy got to leave in a timely manner. Us and the Dad standing next to us just keep staring at each other wondering why in gods name it's taking so long for these sandwiches. The chatty guy literally just stands there talking when there are freaking sandwiches to be made! Is he only allowed to make hot sandwiches? weird. The girl made a really good sandwich, but i have never seen someone move so slow. I don't even know how its possible to take longer than 15 minutes to make a single sandwich. Anyhow, we were there over 30 minutes for 2 sandwiches and there was no "sorry about the wait" or anything. I felt terrible for the Dad standing near us, his sandwiches hadn't even been started yet when we were leaving. If they could speed up the sandwich making so I wouldn't have to cut out a giant portion of my day, I would leave 5 stars and be able to eat there more often. Sorry for the incredibly long review, but seriously...their sandwiches are delicious and they have a good drink selection, if only more of them were cold. read more

The sandwich was absolutely delicious but the service was subpar there was a sweet younger boy at the register maybe a grandson learning what to do but the two older (owners?) seemed so cold and a bit rude to me maybe because I'm not a local I'm not sure but they were not friendly at all although I offered plenty smiles I will be back for the sandwich I frequent the Amtrak station they also sell to the Amtrak so there are always sandwiches there that's how I found out they were so close I tried there tuna sandwich from Amtrak and when I went in the store I had a peppered turkey on Dutch truly mouthwatering read more

I live in Martinez so I thought I'd try this deli, thinking it was like the one in Concord. I was so dissapointend. I ordered the Italian and my husband for the peppered turkey. The bread was fresh and the meat was good quality, but it was lacking everything esle. There was nothing on the sandwich but what looked like a pimento spread. If i were the owners, I would pay a visit to Morrucci's in walnut Creek and luigis in concord and replicate the product! read more

You can honestly smell the delicious scent from the street that's what you me and the restaurant. Upon entering and asking questions the staff here is very helpful on getting me just the sandwich I desired. She pulled out a sheet of paper that had a list of ingredients types of bread types of meat and condiments! All I had to do was mark which ones I wanted and she went to town right away making me the sandwich. The sandwich is better than Togos. And Togos is by far my favorite West Coast sandwich shop! Luigi's has the Dutch crunch roll the togos just took off there menu a couple years ago. The Dutch crunch roll is the best sandwich roll hands-down. Now let me just say when the sandwich arrived I can feel the heat from the outside of the wrapper... I couldn't wait to take the first bite! And let me tell you : when I did I fell in love!! It's one of those "love at first bite" sort of things! I know how corny that sounds but I am 100% serious! I can see this is going to be the start of something long standing & very beautiful! I'm mainly giving Luigi's 5 Stars because of their HUGE selection of independent sodas, which was an amazing sight to behold. Which ever soda you desire, they'll most likely will have it. I did order a sandwhich, which was also good. The main dude was nice and helpful and even suggested for me to try his favourite root beer. It's a nice place to get a bit to eat when visiting this part of Martinez when going antique shopping. (Everything else seems to be closed early around there.) read more

Where should I start? Luigi's is a great place. Luigi has everything. I was sick, my boyfriend stopped and got me soup and crackers as well as a beer for himself. They have all sorts of goodies. We tried hot pastrami sandwiches from here on the grand opening night of the deli and they were amazing. Luigi always goes out of his way to talk with everyone that walks in. I want to like this place so bad! I've ordered sandwiches at least 20-30 times here and every time, without fail, the sandwich isn't made correctly. The most recent sandwich I ordered with turkey and salami... I received a roast beef sandwich. I don't even eat roast beef. I should have checked it before leave because I should know better by now. The sandwiches are a good size at a great price. Well made with good ingredients. My go to tester sandwich at any shop is the Italian and this one was made with quality cold cuts and had roasted red peppers, nice little touch. They stocked a lot of unusual items you don't see most places. Several different iced teas from Taiwan. The soda selection is incredible! So many independent little makers represented. I've eaten their sandwiches twice. Once was to go and once was to eat there, and service was kinda friendly. I had no idea how to order and what to order since I was trying to find some sort of veggie sandwich. I haven't been completely satisfied because I feel like my sandwiches always taste like mustard, also when asked for avocado I couldn't even taste any or see any and then when I looked hard enough at my sandwich I could see a little bit of it. If you're an avocado lover like me, ask for extra extra avocado! Iwill be giving this place a third try sometime soon when I'm craving a sandwich but I'll definitely be sure to say no mustard or very light so I don't have to have a mustard sandwich lol read more

It was not the best sandwich experience. I ordered a pastrami sandwich, and it just seemed like it was lacking ingredients. It was just pastrami, cheese and mustard. Luigi's is a nice neighborhood deli with a very large selection of sodas and the sandwiches are decent. Nothing is extraordinary on my first visit and have come back to give it my second try. The review that I am writing now is as I am on my way home to eat my food and if you hear from me again it is because I was more impressed this time around. Worst service I've ever had in a mom & pop style deli. Sandwiches were decent but the salad was gross. Couldn't even eat it it was so bad. Workers just sitting at the counter forgetting our order not serving us the items just leaving it at the counter. Completely forgetting to dish out our salads. Won't be coming back here again. Luigi's DELI is very satisfying. I've tried hot AND cold sandwiches from Luigi's and they're both equally delicious. I usually go with smoked turkey on Dutch crunch. I'm not a big soda drinker but they have a HUGE selection of sodas I've never even seen before, which is dope. Delicious Cole slaw too mmmmm! Consistency is key, and Luigi's has it. Definitely one of my MARTINEZ favorites. read more
