I wanted to love this place. I really did. Seemed like a friendly older guy behind the counter, but the massive problem was the sourdough bread. It was waaaaaay too hard (I realize sourdough is "harder" than most bread but this was ridiculous). I will try it again, just on different bread. They had a bunch of yummy looking salads and bunch of other random stuff. Oh, and the sandwich order sheet doesn't have any of the special sandwiches. WTF. read more

The sandwiches are great but customer service can be a little better. It was not busy when I ordered my sandwich so I thought it wouldn't take too long, but suddenly there was a meeting and the person making my sandwich forgot to finish the order. So happy I finally tried this place. The sandwich shop I have been looking for. Had a hot pastrami and the hubby had a salami sandwich. We were both impressed. Checked out the rest of the store. Day after Thanksgiving, I head in for a roast beef. The qaulity of the ingredients is undisputed. However, after faxing in the order 20 minutes prior to showing up, and waiting in line that is three people deep while one harried sandwich cheff is literally tossing the thing sloppily together. She told me that the boss had just left, and she was trying to keep up, but that does not account for the two other people that sat behind the cash register and at the deli slicer doing absolutely nothing. My boyfriend and I stopped here while visiting Martinez. I'm always down to try a good deli. We ordered 2 create your own combo deals. On one I ordered avocado but they said they were out, they were so accommodating to fix the issue! They have a huge soda collection that doesn't go towards the meal deals but their collection of chips was slightly lacking. However, best sandwich I've had in a long time! Amazing sandwiches filled with fresh ingredients with a super friendly staff. Whats not to love?

Not only are his sandwiches and salads amazing, but the selection of sodas is so incredible I can never decide which one I want to try! Not only that, but Luigi is a GENUINELY NICE human being! He greets everyone as though he's known them for years, and remembers you the next time you come in. The more I've spoken with him, the more I've learned what a kind person he is. He helps out those in need and has a great respect for our Veterans, which makes me have so much more respect for him and his establishment and I will happily continue to stop in as often as I can. So far the best sandwich shop in Martinez! There are so many different meats and cheeses to choose from! Plus, they have special mayo like pesto and spicy that give your sandwich an extra kick. I have had their turkey and corn beef sandwich, both delicious. You can get your sandwich toasted if you please too! Also since it's inside a grocery store, they have a wide selection of drinks. It's nice to see fancy sodas and juices not widely seen at chain grocery stores. I plan to fill up my sandwich card too! I only wish this deli was closer to work. read more

Today before football i decided i had to check this place out, first you walk in and its looks like a "oh heck no i am getting out of here" but you follow the foot prints and you end up at a very nice deli way in the back, i got the #1 which is pretty much every italian meat you want on a sandwich it looked great, but they make you do this wierd think where they stamp the price you pay back up front then camp back for your sandwich was kinda annoying, i get my sandwich and begin it was great they had amazing fresh tasting bread and the meat was perfect its boars head very good meat, one thing i didnt like bread got soggy from the fire roasted tomatos other then that everything was fresh and great i will be back for another, cheap for a top sandwich too, read more

Tried this place for the first time today, and it was amazing! The atmosphere is old school deli, and the owner is so nice. My girlfriend and I ordered poor boy sandwiches and they delicious and filling. We were only able to eat half of the sandwich. We loved that they served pasta or salad with our sandwiches rather than chips. The prices were a little higher than other places but the quality of the food was definitely higher too. I used to think the sandwich shop in Pt. Richmond made the best sandwiches in the East Bay. But now IMO that title belongs to Luigi's Deli. I've known Luigi ever since he opened up his original store 6 years ago. Last year, when he told me he was going to put in a deli, I thought, Okay, Luigi. When I saw him carting out broken concrete from the back of his store, I thought, Gee, he's really serious. And now that I've had my first sandwich -- smoked turkey with harvarti on a huge but single-serving Ciabatta loaf -- all I can add is: Could we please have real avocado slices? :) Thanks for my sandwich, Luigi. For a Sunday afternoon with Farmer's Market, this seems to be the only place open for decent food. The store itself from the outside doesn't look like it's a deli. This was my first time here and I didn't know what to do and didn't even know where to go to order my sandwich. That wasn't a problem because staff were helpful. The staff in the front guided us to the back of the store (or you can follow the footsteps) to order the sandwich. There was a menu card for you to make selection of what you want for your sandwiches. Once we're done, we walked back to the front of the store to pay for our sandwiches and was going to go back to get our sandwiches. But before we walked all the way back, Luigi stopped us and told us to have a seat and he'll have someone to bring our sandwiches to us. Great customer services (a bit confusing if you're a first timer) and sandwiches were good. I will definitely come back to try other sandwiches. read more

Got a prosciutto sandwich in which i was afraid was going to be skimpy but they packed it. The group I was with was highly pleased as well. The only thing that I was not a fan of was their Pasta Salad, to me it lacked flavor and the noodles tasted overcooked. The fountain soda dispenser was also pouring flat soda so it would have been nice if it was maintained. Other than that I had a solid experience and will be back. read more

I wish I could give this place a 5 star review, but I have tried coming by all three days this week to get some dinner on my way home from work and they were closed...all three times I have arrived between 5:00 and 5:30 thinking that they would still be open...it does say they are open until 6 for their deli...the bar that is connected stays open later...this is not correct... they are closing at an unknown time..I would just find somewhere else if you are going to get something to eat after 4:30 or 5...unless you don't mind driving here to find out they closed early...they do deserve 5 starts for the service and food...they deserve 1 star for management of the hours they are open...so 3 stars seemed legit read more

Whenever I'm in Martinez visiting my dentist this is a must stop before are after the best sandwiches in Martinez I love them very fresh.

After giving this place severel tries, I will no longer go to this deli. The last time I was here not one but all three of my sandwiches were made incorrectly. It is bad when a deli gives you roast beef instead of pastrami. When I brought it to the owner's attention he sad that is their pastrami for today. Their pesto sauce is white and tastes like ranch. If your sandwich is made wrong Luigi himself will make up excuses to make it seem like he is correct and you are wrong. Overall, please don't waste your time going here, the 15 minutes it takes to make a sandwich is also a little ridiculous. If it was up to me I wouldn't even give them 1 star. read more
