I think he used half their stock of napkins sopping up the greasy mess. But... The staff is friendly, and genuine. This place will get you as close to NY as your going to get in Morehead City, NC, but really, that's not saying much. Only complaint is that the crust was, on it's own, a tad tasteless. I love Luigi's pizza. I have been there many times. My favorite item is their steak and cheese hoagies. They are awesome! I have friends who come from 30 miles away to get one of those delicious sandwiches. The pizza is good also and they are generous in the sizes and toppings. Born and raised in NYC, but relocated to NC. I had given up on finding good pizza here because nothing really compares to NY pizza, let's be real. I decided to give this place a chance one day on a lunch break at work, and it certainly delivered! It gives me a taste of home when I am really craving that New York slice. Going simple with cheese or a pepperoni slice, or getting wild with the luigi special pizza (it's like fifty toppings! okay, not really fifty, but a ton!) you can't go wrong with their pies. I am not a fan of their subs. Their bread is always stale, not my thing. The salads are not special at all. The calzone and stromboli are good, though, specifically the stromboli! As far as dining experience, it reminds me of all the good hole in the walls of NY. The best pizza and cannoli I've ever had in the South by a mile. I'm not exactly a pizza-snob, but I value a good pie being of Italian heritage from the North East. I hadn't had great pizza in years since moving to the Southeast with my family years ago. Ultimately, the military brought me to the area and a buddy of mine from Long Island (a self-proclaimed pizza-snob) endorsed them. Given his high standards for pizza, I knew these guys were no joke. As a foodie with a pizza blog, I am extremely picky when it comes to pizza but LOVED Luigi's! 99 percent of the time when a place claims to be New York style it isn't. This hole in the wall serves gigantic flat crust New York style pies with the best flavor I've had outside of NY. Their small is a whopping 16 inches while their large pies are 20 inches! The sauce, cheese, and oil are near perfect without being greasy. The closest comparison I have had is Deninos in Staten Island, NY. If you are the area, this is a must try. The pizza is a five star! The sauce has an excellent, flavor... basil, garlic, oregano and a touch of sweet, just the way we like it! Both the cheese and the toppings are tasty (we had traditional pepperoni and sausage yum!) the crust is the real star; crispy with just the right about of chew. I wasn't sure the crust would be cooked through when I watched how often the oven door was being opened but it was crisp and golden brown... just the way we like it! Now the restaurant itself is the reason for the 4 star instead of 5. We had trouble finding a clean table and the bathrooms were kinda scary.
