It's a little pizza shack off a college campus, and it always was a little shack off a college campus. That's fine, but I'm not sure if it's the heat or some other internal dispute, but the staff has become less than kind over the past year. The food offerings are still alright, but quality has dropped dramatically since the senior member passed away during the pandemic. The newer hostess seems extremely unhappy to be there and the experience damped an otherwise pleasant summer day. I hope this is temporary, I've enjoyed this pizzeria for the better part of the last 20 years and seeing it slip from grace so steeply in a place that doesn't even offer much competition is a bit sad. Burnt slices smothered in cheese and somehow lacking much of the distinct flavor practically makes it feel like they pulled a frozen pizza from the back and just threw it in the oven. Luigi's is a great quick classic NY slice. They take cards and it's fast. I was craving pizza so right after my last route I searched local pizzerias spots and Luigi's was the first to pop up with tremendous reviews and ranking so I decided to check it out. Upon arriving I noticed is a very small pizza shop no seating just order and go which didn't bother me but I loved the display of different pizzas they had. I went with two pepperoni pizza and one buffalo. The only thing that disappointed me is how oily the pepperoni pizza was, I figured is because they do add a lot of pepperoni which cause more oil to come out and makes the pizza oily and groggy but it was still delicious. The buffalo pizza was extremely good! one of the best buffalo pizzas I've tried, this pizza was more stable and the chicken was tender. The buffalo pizza def has a nice spice kick which i loved. I went here for a quick lunch slice on a Tuesday. It is indoor/outdoor counter service (all slices to go!) I got two white slices and my partner got a buffalo chicken slice, literally no complaints! Sauce- Very flavorful and well seasoned. 5/5 worthiness Cheese/Ingredients- There is a range of freshness of the ingredients depending on the slice. On the margherita slice, you can smell the beautiful aroma of the olive oil. On a plain slice, it meet your standard high quality reheated slice. I ordered cheese pizza with anchovies last night. It was so salty and our family could not eat it. I called back next day but they told me they will do nothing because I am the only person who has complained before. I called to give them a chance to fix the issue, but they refused to do so saying my voice does not count. I asked his name but he asked me "why do you need my name?" When I look back on my days of grad school at Pratt, let me just say that you are one of my fondest memories. Frankly, if it were not for the chance to get a slice before going to class, I think I would have been absent much more often. This is the (for me) the best pizza I have ever had. Yes, this includes Italy, Chicago, Ray's, Grimaldi's, etc. It is the perfect amount of grease and cheese and sauce. The dough is never chewy, maybe because it is the best super-thinness. I might become an active alumnus in order to get more of this pizza. The guys behind the counter are so sweet and nice and genuinely pleasant. They know you're in a hurry but if a pie is about to come out fresh, they'll let you know if you have a minute. "Freshman 15" be damned, this pizza is more than worth it. Also super hot, because pizza ovens get hot (who knew?). You can get your slices extra crispy, which is how I like it. The mushroom slice was loaded with so many mushrooms. In those four years, I searched far and wide for pizza that could stand up to this, and in that search, I mainly failed to find comparable fare, in terms of style, taste, and price. Well, my four-year deprivation of Luigi ended yesterday (06/14/13). They've upped the variety, but slices are smaller and more expensive. Obviously, the cheese is what you want, as it still has that tangy tomato sauce and perfectly crispy yet springy crust for a Brooklyn fold, but the veggie slice is also damn good as it's packed to the brim with broccoli, peppers, and other fresh veg. Now it's no Grimaldi's or Lombardi's ... those places are legendary, but for Clinton Hill and Pratt, this joint is money. Whether it's straight up or folded, the slices don't sag and the crust stays satisfying from first to last bite. There is nowhere to sit but who cares, it's part of the charm but if you really want to rest your legs they have a sister location not to far from the original. Most pizza places in Clinton Hill are 2 star joints but this beats them all, and thus earns a 3rd star. Tip: Get whatever is fresh. You could very easily miss this place - it's super tiny (probably the tiniest pizzeria I've ever been to, or seen), but that makes it all the more magical.
