This little hole in the wall is the best pizza in Clinton Hill, maybe in all of Brooklyn! The crust is always nice and crispy. "It's the best pizza place in the area", quoting my bf. Since my arrival to Brklyn, my guy have constantly raved about Luigi's every time we walk by or when we pass by on the B38. Finally I tried it and I see (or tasted) why! The joint has no sitting area nor delivery service, yet every time we pass by there are customers. Price is fair and actually cheap. 2 bucks for a Sicilian slice (thick crust). The staff are friendly and polite. Pizza is super tasty when its fresh out of the oven; thin, hot, semi crunchy crust is exactly the way I want my perfect pizza to be. It makes me wonder if having pizza toasty is their trick, thus they don't even bother to do delivery. Seeing all of the good reviews this place got, I was baffled when I showed up there. In the dark and rain, I saw a man get a pack of beer from the convenience store next to it and bring it over to the guys behind the counter, and I thought to myself, "This place? This tiny, dingy little room?" Make no mistake, this is a -room-. Cut in half by a counter, there's a place to stand, and on the other side, a place where they make the pizza, take your order, take your money. Standing room only every single day, so get ready to take your pizza and walk. I was feeling extra hungry that day, so I went Sicilian-style, with thick, puffy crust. Two plain slices ran me $5.00, so the price was pretty average for a slice like that. Nobody said much to me, but I was offered a bag, which was appreciated (see: rain.) And then I started eating it. WOW. What a slice of pizza, oh man. That thick crust, perfect. The sauce, it's got that taste of being somebody's grandma's and boy was it cooked and seasoned to perfection. I'm usually not even that into sauce, but this was some delicious sauce. And this cheese - real cheese! Real, hot, melty, delicious cheese - abundant without being overpowering. I was literally licking my lips hoping to find a missed bit of pizza after I finished, it was that good. I called to place an order for delivery. Unfortunately, I was told that they do not deliver. Disappointed by this response, I didn't place an order. My bf then decided he would go and pick up the pies. This place have 4.5 stars. Why not give it a try? I called back to place my order which was of 2 pies for 5 people. 1 was plain and the other was pepperoni. I was told they should be ready in 15 mins. Unfortunately, my bf took his time leaving and thus brought back cold pizza. Ugh. I ended up heating the pizza in my toaster oven. The pizza had good quality but in my opinion, it lacked salt. I'm not sure if it's because I reheated it but I will definitely have to stop by to give a second opinion. I absolutely love pizza and haven't found anything better than Luv-n-Oven in the area. I'm not sure I would travel to Clinton Hill just for a slice from Luigi's. Okay, I did but I'm not sure I would do it again. It's very easy to miss if you're not walking down Dekalb. We missed it 3 times and I was frightened that it was either closed or located elsewhere. The monster blizzard conjured up pizza cravings for my friend and I. We had both eaten breakfast earlier in the day and nothing else. By the time we arrived at Luigi's, we were hungry, cranky, pissed and impatient. Maybe that was just me. Finally, we got our plain slices ($2.25 each), found a spot to park and began demolishing our pizza. The crust had a nice crunch with every bite, the sauce had a good balance of sweet/tangy flavor but the cheese seemed old and a tad burned. There was no stringy factor after taking a bite and pulling away (I refrained from typing out). For some reason this perturbed me. The look and feel of it wasn't quite right. I then began thinking of Vinnie's pizza and how stringy their cheese was. Mesh Luigi's crust and sauce with Vinnie's cheese and boom! If I'm in the area, I'd give it go again. I am a huuuuge fan of their plain sicilian. my friend converted me the other day. When I first went there, I got the vegetable pizza but it was a so so. However, their sicilian is completely in a different level. the bottom part his nice and crispy and when you bite into it the dough just gives way. Love the place for what it is: a takeout pizza joint. Don't go there to sit down - there are no tables. There's a 6' counter that faces the street and another 6' counter inside, where there's about 25 square feet to mingle. When 4-5 people are inside, it starts to get crowded. As such, you come here for a slice to eat while standing, or grab slices or pies to go. It's simply basic. And basically simple. To be fair, I don't quite get the 5 star reviews. This isn't a wood or coal fired, made-to-order place. You can't sit and enjoy. Rather, they have a dozen pies on display and will re-heat slices on demand in a gas oven. But I will give them props for having some variety. Many NY pizza joints have but a few basic selections on display. LP stretches. My west coast roots were exposed by ordering a pineapple and bacon slice. It's not a destination meal unless you are a truly passionate pizza explorer with a need to sample as many places possible. My landlord could have charged me more money if she had told me I could get a slice of pizza this tasty in my neighborhood. I have a lot of out-of-town visitors, so I feel a certain level of responsibility when it comes to feeding them delicious NYC style pizza. I've eaten at all the headliners (Lombardi's, Grimaldi's, etc) but Luigi is still my favorite. No fuss, no hype, no tourists, just the right amount of grease/cheese/crunchy crust. I've been known to grab a pizza for a group of friends, only to order another one 15 minutes later when they demand more (and then another. not joking). They do close pretty early, however. If you're a late night pizza craver, like me, be warned that you will be disappointed if you try to place a 10 pm pizza order. read more

Luigi's was highly recommended and I was in search of the much vaunted paper thin pizza crust NY pizza places are supposedly famous for. It only took 3-4 minutes to get my slice of pepperoni served on a paper plate, and it did not disappoint. This place has ruined me for single serving slice pizza, and I'll now be forced to walk the few extra blocks to get the goods. Finally, some straight up great pizza in my, well ok technically not my neighborhood, as it is a block into Clinton Hill and thus not in Ft. Greene proper, but certainly my general area. Classic NYC thin crust corner spot style pizza, with no pretensions toward being artisanal/coal oven or anything similarly upscale, supposedly high minded and more expensive like at its neighborhood competitors like Graziellas,and Il Porto. Great sauce and cheese, with saltiness shining thru as the dominant flavor profile in a great way. The setup is fantastic and likewise classic NYC, its amazing that so much greatness can come out of such a minuscule space. It seems as a fresh pie for slices is always just coming out or just about to, so the chances of getting a fresh slice instead of a reheated one are considerably higher than average. When the MTA decided to make a Single-Ride .25 cents more, Luigi's decided to do the same with their regular slice. For $2.50, you can get on the subway and travel to any part of the city you want, or you can get a slice of Luigi's and stay awhile in Clinton Hill. You decide. Their isn't much to Luigi's, which makes it all the better. No Frank Sinatra on the wall, no Joe DiMaggio, no Robert De Niro. Just pizza, waiting in the warmness on metal plates, one or two guys workin' the place, the ovens, a fridge with canned sodas, sometimes Italian music or Mexican ranchera songs blasting from a boombox. You can't sit down here. You get your slice and you go, or eat it right there on the street. (But wait...you want to sit down and eat your pizza with your family or friends? Well then, you're gonna have to go to the 3 Luigi's, on Grand between Lafayette and Clifton.) As opposed to Mario's Pizzeria, a couple of blocks further in Fort Greene, the slices here are perfectly proportioned, with a lot more cheese than sauce. These slices won't leave your hands and paper plate greasy. They are the classic NYC slice of yum. Being so close to Pratt, I'm glad Luigi's offers delicious pizza, perfect for a quick easy lunch, for a "bite to eat." This isn't Grimaldi's, but for the service, and closeness, it's always worth it. read more

I love that Luigi's is so close to where I live and work. I've only ever had two types there: regular cheese and vegetarian. The vegetarian was extremely disappointing, and I talked with someone who told me that only the cheese was redeemable here. Surely, it is. This has to be arguably the best Pizza in Brooklyn, if not the Tri-State area. I actually think about this place whenever I'm home in Jersey. It is just the perfect combination of great sauce, great cheese and crusty pizza dough. This is a little hole in the wall, where you can just pass by and order a slice from the sidewalk. A plain slice is the way to go. But they do offer a number of combination of toppings. If you have the room it's worth getting my favorite pairing: a plain slice with a beef patty. A can of Coke or Pepsi on the side to wash it all down. Too many times I have lied about leaving something in my car while visiting my in-laws just to cross the street and sneak in a slice before having to go back up for dinner. Cheese is freshly cut mozzarella balls. The Sauce, wow, the sauce. Sweet, savory, there just aren;t the words. I could sip it like a fine wine! This place may be out of your way, and thats ok.
