The food is really good, but the service on the patio is very slow. We had to find our server a few times to order our food and drinks. Ended up sitting inside because it was so hot out. The inside is small and has a funny smell. Our waiter, I think Louis, was great, but besides the cooks, he seemed to be the only other person actually working. I ordered the small plate ravioli, and it was pretty good. Hubs had the grill cheese sandwich. Sadly it's a place that wants to be up scale and it's just not, the prices are way higher then need be for the small menu; it's ashame because the food was good and service was good but the woman that was sitting at the small inside bar kept going and getting money out of the register then getting candy from some place outside. I'm not sure if she just works there or is an owner. There was definitely a weird vibe. I'd eat the food again but doubt we will be back. We visited the Frontporch for the first time on Friday, October 4th. Since the porch was full, we opted to sit inside, because there was a short wait for a table outside. As a result, we were alone in the restaurant. Our choice, but we missed the whole alfresco experience which is the focal point here. I had the Frontporch burger which was delicious, and my partner had the sweet chili wings with fries which she really enjoyed. I also had two very well-made drinks. Everything was great. My friend loved the shrimp risotto that she got and I thought the menu had a nice array of things. It was a typical price point for what you would expect to pay in Aspinwall. But I was expecting more of a casual menu for the restaurants aesthetic. It was a just a little fancier than I expecting. I will say I wasn't in love with the grilled cheese that I got. The cheese was pretty bland and it ended up not really tasting like anything. The tomato and basil they put on it were scarce. For a $13 grilled cheese I was expecting more. the sweet potato fries were really good. Idk...I know a grilled cheese is not the wisest order, but I feel like it's something that's pretty difficult to mess up. I do want to go back to try the lamp lollipop entree, but I would definitely recommend avoiding the grilled cheese, and if you're not looking to spend, I would recommend going somewhere else read more

I'm obsessed with the charming Aspinwall neighborhood so I was very excited to try Luke & Mike's Frontporch located on one of its commercial streets for dinner on a gorgeous Spring Wednesday evening in mid-April. To avoid traffic on construction-filled Route 28, our party of five met for a 6:30 reservation. Inside is bar seating for a handful of people and a handful of sit-down tables. It's a modern decor with a stone fireplace as a focal point. I ordered a cocktail and two items from the small bites menu section as my main course. The service was prompt and friendly. Outside on the wrap around porch and patio, it's a very casual affair as is the attire of the staff. It feels like two different places and the menu is the same way catering to both the casual beer & burger crowd and the fancier ahi tuna and martini crowd. If I lived in this wonderful neighborhood, I'd definitely return to hangout outside. read more

The outdoor vibe at this restaurant is AWESOME. An outdoor bar, deck and patio seating make up the outside area. The mural on the side of the building depicts the Aspinwall business scene and is so cute! The fried cauliflower was the best thing on the menu, but unfortunately they took it off! So sad. I have been here probably 5 times and unfortunately, besides the cauliflower, never had anything that I really liked. I've tried burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and tacos. I feel like it's overpriced for the quality. When I went a couple weeks ago, I got pesto pasta with shrimp. It was incredibly oily and not seasoned well. Sometimes I get drinks that are great, and sometimes they seem to be not so fresh. On the upside, the ambiance is great! It's beautiful and peaceful. I would go here again just because it's convenient for a friend and myself, on a nice day, and to grab a drink and maybe something to snack on. I've lived near here for 9 years and finally made it to this place. A great spot in Aspinwall. We were able to get a reservation with short notice on a Friday night. Ambiance here is really nice, most of the dining area is outdoors (watch out for lantern flies). Our waiter was great, very attentive and friendly. They have a great cocktail list. I had the Frontporch Burger, it was great, I liked that it was served on focaccia. Prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend a visit. read more

I had a solid meal here recently. The food is above average and you can tell they use quality ingredients and have high standards. Our server did a decent job. However, I feel I can't rate this experience higher because of how we were treated when we showed up. While the Yelp listing indicates they take reservations, nothing on the listing or their website indicates that a reservation is functionally required for eating there on a weekend. This is inconvenient enough, though forgivable. But the host that greeted us didn't bother concealing his irritation with our family that had the gall to show up without a reservation. We did get seated and fed, so it wasn't a complete wash. It just put a sour spin on our time there to have been greeted rudely by the first person we spoke to. I work in customer service myself, and I've worked retail too. I know it sucks. But you're getting paid to feed people and be nice to them. I stopped over here for lunch and although I was offered a seat out on the front porch I declined due to the heat. I also wanted to see the inside. One of the specials they had on the menu was their tossed salad covered with smoked salmon, strawberries, and feta cheese. I ordered that and got it rather quickly. For some reason the salmon didn't agree with me so I asked if they would swap it out for their chicken salad which was made the same way but with farm raised chicken. The swap out was definitely much better and you could tell the chicken was fresh and moist. The staff was very friendly and attentive to my needs. The portion size was huge so believe me I wouldn't have been able to eat dessert even if they had offered it to me. There is also a small bar area. They have a beautiful fresco art on the side which is worth looking at. I would advise if coming to get here early because this place does fill rather quickly. Chips and salsa were good. Salsa is a mango, onions, cilantro mix. The chicken breast sandwich was good too and was not dry however there was a black icky hair in my fries. The waitress handled it very well (apologetic) as the two male kitchen staff came outside to flirt with the surrounding waitresses. Topped it off with some macaroons (they were just ok...I've had better at local coffee shops). The waitstaff here were very friendly and attentive, thus this is a must do when on that side of town. If I have any complaints, it would be the patrons, vice any knock on the restaurant. This is a local place, and the locals clearly exhibit an air of pretentiousness (no Aloha with these folks). Fun place to have a meal on the porch. Stopped by for lunch and the weather was perfect for eating on the porch. Fun to watch the people pass by. Kids on scooters, ladies rushing to parking meters from the hair palour next door to put money in the meter with the smocks still on and hair in all kinds of conditions...lol. Nice little menu of Soups, sandwiches, salads, wraps. Ordered the Salmon (encrusted with dijon mustard0 salad special of the day. Was informed it was the last one and I did not go late. Salad had fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, carrot and came with 2 slices of a nicely toasted bread. The salmon was over powered by the mustard due to the large amount put on top, so I took some off. Unfortunately, the salmon was under cooked. Had a similar salmon salad at a restauant a few doors down recently that was better and less expensive, and that restaurant is much fancier. It smelled good, but he inhaled it before I got the chance to taste. He also ordered the special, which was a chicken salad in a cornucopia shaped bread on top of arugula. The salad was delicious! It had grapes and cranberries in it, too. I wanted a cod sandwich, but the server said they didn't have any fish that day. It's probably because they put them in the other soup of the day, which was the mediteranean seafood. I got the grilled ham and swiss sandwich served w/ coleslaw and chips. My meal was also delicious! You would think that grilled cheese is plain, but they grilled the sandwich perfectly: breas was crunchy yet soft. It was a big serving as well. I definitely could've taken half home. I also enjoyed the slaw eventhough I'm not a huge coleslaw person. Server was friendly and this place definitely has a homey feel. We are fortunate enough to be able to eat several times a week and have found Luke and Mike's to be our "go to" establishment. We also had the pleasure of hosting a party of around 60 (inside and outside) for a sit down appetizer(s), dinner(s) and cocktails. Everything was handled perfectly and the compliments were incredible! The owner's actually opened the restaurant to us on a typically closed evening. I would like to apologize for taking so long to update my review! I stopped in for a late lunch one afternoon, and Wow! I was blown away by the food. I had a fish dish, and it was spectacular. A salad and bread as well. Nothing was left on my plate when I was finished. I came during the summer. The covered, outdoor setting and artistically prepared meal (along with the weather, I'm sure) gave it a west coast, LA dining feel. But along-side the building is a bar, and uncovered dining area near the sidewalk with the occassional neighbor walking by and it is also very pleasantly a friendly, Pittsburgh neighborhood restaurant. Luke and Mike's is an adorable place for dining al fresco in Aspinwall. The restaurant is built on what used to be the old train station. Their front porch is cozy and surrounded by flowers and leafy trees...such a picturesque ambiance in which to enjoy dinner on a warm summer night! The dinner menu is quite limited and it changes frequently...check their website or facebook pages for what they're currently serving. It's a bit on the expensive side (most dinners are $20+), but the food is fresh and high-quality, so I don't think it's outrageously priced. On our recent visit, we started with the homemade chips and seasonal salsa (mango). The chips were big and almost pita-like...the texture was a perfect balance of crispy and chewy. It was a great base for the sweet and spicy mango salsa, which was flavorful and refreshing. For my dinner, I got the almond-crusted chicken breasts with red potatoes as my side. The meal also comes with bread and salad (which I skipped). The chicken was simply prepared but done very well...the chicken was moist and juicy and had a nice nutty crunch from the almond coating (the chicken they use is also all natural without antibiotics, which I appreciate). It was paired with a sweet ginger sauce that was delicious. The red potatoes also were quite simple....roasted with a little oil and spice...but cooked to perfection. My two dining companions both ordered the jumbo coconut shrimp and were pleased with the flavor and texture of their shrimp. Food doesn't need to be overly complicated or have a million components to be delicious...it just needs to make sure the elements it does have are executed well. The food at Luke and Mike's is certainly executed well. They used to be BYOB, but now they have a liquor license and are serving up booze. I've never had drinks here before, but their cocktail menu had some enticing choices, so I'll just have to come back. :) They also are open for brunch now on Sundays as well, which I'd love to check out.
