Saw the 1/4lb lobster roll special advertised while walking by. It is a small store. There was a minimal line when I went in, but moved fairly quickly. The special for 2 days is 1/4lb lobster roll, chips and a pickle. Surprisingly, a lot of people opt not to get the pickle. Well at least when I was there! My wife loves sea food and I went and surprised her with a quick stop at this trending but also a chain that's been around for a while doing delicious seafood dishes aka lobster ones! I love lobster rolls and this is one my favorite places to get 'em. It aint cheap at 34 bucks per roll and just one is never enough for me. I love how they post the source of todays seafood at the front counter (see pic). I know that my lobster rolls came from "Portland Pier, Maine" today. The quality of the service and the food is always superior. This restaurant has the vibe of a small lobster shack and sometimes there's no guarantee of a seat - in that case we'll just take our food down the block to Union Square. The staff were nice, and my pick up was ready right away, I was just a little underwhelmed with the food. It was close to being something I liked or would get again but just missed the mark. I love that they are so good about tracking their sustainability, and almost want to pop them up to 4 stars for that, but the roll just left a lot to be desired. The seasoning atop the roll was too cajun style, and didn't realyl work for me, btu the lobster desperately needed some butter or salt to bring its natural sweet, briney flavors to life. If I'm in Boston or Maine, I will always get a lobster roll. I typically don't think New York City as a place where you can get a lobster roll. That all changed when I went to Luke's Lobster. The lobster roll was amazing! The bread was soft and warm. The lobster was seasoned very well and there was plenty of it. The service was solid, super nice and helpful. If it weren't for this mini chain of lobster roll joints in the city, I wouldn't know where to get a quick fix. Lobster rolls feel like a hand food you eat on the go, maybe by the sea or at a picnic, but because of the price point you mostly find them on the menus of nicer sit down restaurants. Luke's comes through with a happy medium solution. If you know anything about the fraught supply chain around the way lobsters are often sourced (which include labor issues and the impact on the environment) you might think twice about eating lobster. If we are to trust that Luke's is keeping their word about working with fisherman to source lobsters in a sustainable way, then choosing Luke's may be the lesser of lobster-eating evils. They do have a B-corp status (a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance) and partner with the Island Institute and Maine Coast Fisherman's Association, and I think that counts for something. I'm only eating lobster a couple of times a year, and try to be intentional with my purchasing choices, so Luke's makes me feel like an ethical consumer. Good job, Luke! As for what you're really reading this review for-- do their lobster rolls taste good? Absolutely. The rolls themselves are fresh, lightly toasted, and buttered. The pieces of lobster are plentiful and fresh. I recently tried their roll that was made in collaboration with the Asian sauce brand, Omsom. The sell was that it's made with mala spice and kewpie mayo, but I couldn't make out the mala spice at all. They really should've gone harder with the spice-- I'd like to think their customers can handle it. This Union Square location is just big enough for a couple of seats and tables inside or outside. But like I said, lobster rolls are meant for eating on the go, just note if you have the appetite of someone like me, you might need to plan for a second meal afterward. read more

I'm so glad I got to give Luke's another try. The wonderful manger and store supervisor really do care about their customers and the quality of their food . I came in today on my lunch break and got the sampler of shrimp, crab , and lobster roll, and their clam chowder which I love. The temperature and flavors were just perfect and you can literally taste the sea (from how fresh it was) with every bite . I really enjoyed it. It's a small cozy restaurant but the love in there is huge, and as stated in my previous review top tier customer service. In life some days we have hiccups, and Luke and his great establishment made sure to make things right . Such a great business, with great workers managers and supervisors. Lukes is always one of my favorite spots to grab a yummy lobster roll and a hearty cup of soup. I Stopped by for their lobster roll flight which consisted of a 2 oz lemon butter roll, 2 oz spicy honey butter roll, and a 2 oz truffle butter roll. I also had a cup of their Lobster Corn chowder which was heavenly. The union Square location is really small with limited seating inside but I was able to find a seat to enjoy a quick bite to eat because I couldn't wait until I got home. Food - I've been here 3 times now over the past 2 years that I've visited NYC, and I always get the lobster flight to try different flavors. The lobster is so fresh and crisp and not fishy at all, and the roll is warm and buttery. Lobster rolls just feel so wastefully indulgent because of how good and how much work it is, but here, they have all the meat taken out for you and sandwiched between two toasted buns and topped with melted butter. It's supposed to be 4oz but came out to be 3.8oz, lol rounding? As for the roll itself, I was impressed with it!! Other lobster rolls I've had drown the meat in mayo but here it doesn't have any. Instead the lobsters have steak seasoning! That makes the whole thing way more luxurious without being heavy. Well no there's a ton of butter in this. That's what makes it so yummy though. I must say I was a bit on the fence about dropping $24 for a Lobster Roll but let me tell you it was well worth it. I opted for the 4oz butter roll which had way more than enough lobster to be filling. What I enjoyed the most was the freshness of the lobster, I legit felt like it came straight from Maine. It wasn't over or undercooked but just right. I've been to several seafood places known for their rolls but this one beats them all. Fantastic all the way through! I stopped in for a lobster roll and some clam chowder soup. First let me say that the man working at this location who served me was excellent! He even allowed me to fill up my water bottle with free water they had in their front fridge. He was so polite and courteous the entire time I was there! As for the food it was absolutely delicious and now I am obsessed! This was my first time having a lobster roll and boy was it everything I had hoped for and more! What an utter birthday disappointment after making an out-of-the-way trip to Luke's Lobster Union Square for an epic lobster meal! My order consisted of a 6oz. lobster roll, lobster mac & cheese, and a beverage (with an extremely limited selection of beverages for the choosing) to complete this "so-called" meal. The lobster mac & cheese was a watery mess resembling the consistency of diluted whole milk with pasta shells and TWO ( 2 ) PIECES of LOBSTER. At best, the picture provided cannot convey the unpleasant taste experienced, which did not compare to how actual mac & cheese (with or without lobster) should have tasted, especially with a meager sprinkle of lobster. However, the lobster roll lived up to its expectations, albeit small in size, was similar to purchasing a Maine lobster roll. The buttered roll melted as the surrounding lobster tasted succulent and sweet to the palate. Besides a waste of money spent for the abovementioned "non existing lobster meal", a mandatory FIVE ( 5 ) CENT bag charge was imposed without EVER asking if a bag was needed OR if I already had a bag. THIS was deceitful and not transparent to any customer making a Luke's Lobster purchase of an already expensive endeavor. In every purchase made throughout New York, either a complimentary bag is provided to the customer or a question is asked if a bag is required for the purchase. read more

My love affair continues... stopped by with a friend for a quick bite after seeing The Green Book ( highly recommend seeing this fabulous film!). I've been wanting to stop in at this location for some time. My friend and I both craved the lobster roll. This is a smaller Luke's; similar in size to East Village location. I was hesitant at first due to giving up bread since November but if Im going to cheat Luke's is my top ten place to do it! As always, the classic roll was delicious; huge chunks of lobster and fresh. I had a $3 credit for downloading the Luke's App and our friendly server, Lillia, applied it towards my bill.
