It passes itself off as Texas BBQ but it resembles it in atmosphere only. The Good: Staff and service was great our waiter had a great sense of humor and was attentive. The appetizers were also very good smoked wings and sweet potato tots with a really tasty cheese sauce. The Bad: I am not sure where the sausage comes from but it wasn't Elgin or Lockhart they were more like mealy hot links I was really dissapointed. The brisket was dry and not a lot of flavor and the sauces were too hearty and thick for Texas style. This was our second time here. Still awesome. The kitchen messed up my wife's salad. Not a big deal, they just forgot to leave the croutons out and she ended up picking them out herself. Our server, Aura was amazing and even though we didn't complain she went out of her way to take care of us. They ended up comping the salad AND brought my wife another one, sans croutons to take home with her. Excellent service. Thanks Aura! Also, Great BBQ. I had the smoked chicken, it was delicious. My friend and I drove to Louisville to try The Huckleberry restaurant for lunch last week. When we arrived we learned from a sign on their door that they are closed on Monday and Tuesday due to staffing shortages. Rather than just head back towards Westminster we decided to try LuLu's which is just across the street from The Huckleberry. I had the Pit BBQ Sandwich with brisket and chips while my friend ordered the Hot Mess sandwich with chips; we both enjoyed what we ordered and were happy we had decided to give LuLu's a try. I went on a Thursday just before the dinner rush. The restaurant was busy but we were seated promptly on the patio. I ordered the 1/2 and 1/2 plate with ribs, burnt ends(if available), Mac and cheese, and sweet potato tots. My boyfriend ordered the same thing but with beans and coleslaw. Our burnt ends were substituted, nbd. I had the sausage and he had the chicken. Our food arrived and it all looked so good. The ribs appeared to have a nice crust/glaze but seriously lacked in flavor and were chewy. The Mac n cheese was watery, also lacking in flavor. The sausage and chicken were very tasty. The coleslaw, beans, and sweet potato tots are also very good. The sweet tea is also very good. We'll probably give it another try but won't have the ribs. read more

Oh. My. Goodness. I love this place. Great service, even more amazing food. We came here because I have a gluten allergy and ALL their bbq meats and sauces are gluten free. We ordered from the nicest waiter (though I can't remember his name, but he had blue rim glasses). Our table of 5 all ordered the half and half with various meats. Our side salad was great, so were the cooked beans. My friends say the cinnamon cornbread is to die for (not gf though). Apparently the mashed potatoes are extremely garlic-y (our friend who ordered if gave it to share because they were too much). But if you enjoy garlic like the other 4 of us did then you'll love them. Ribs were nothing short of amazing. Texture, taste, consistency, everything was perfect. Pulled pork was equally as satisfying with the bbq sauces and "PPO" (Pickles peppers and onions I believe) which took it to the next level. My friend who grew up in Texas said this is easily ome of the best bbq places he's been to and definitely on this side of Colorado. You can absolutely tell they take their time on their meats. Lulu Tea (vodka Arnold palmer) was also perfect and my boyfriend said the Dragons Milk stout beer was also great. I could only improve this place by offering a gluten free version of their cornbread and a gluten free beer (they had omission but that's gluten reduced.. There's a local gf brew called Holidaily I was hoping for but no such luck). Other than that I can't complain about a thing! :) read more

Definitely worth a visit! This ol' Carolina boy felt right at home. All they lacked was glacially sweet ice tea. I did try the brisket sandwich (delish) instead of the traditional pork, however. Sweet potato tots were very unique and tasty. I didn't find the mac & cheese side dish particularly good (reminded me of bland pasta salad), but the green bean dish was very yummy. My friend remarked, after ordering a Tecata, that he'd never been served a lime wedge with a can of beer before! Good, fast service, but it was 5:30 on a weeknight. Quirky gas-station atmosphere but very clean; furniture appears to be polished aluminum with an 'engine turning' swirl pattern, like Lindbergh's plane. Yelp shows $$$; should be $$ or $ since their prices seemed reasonable. One note of caution: the entrance to LuLu's is right up against another restaurant (the Cactus Wheel); we were seated in the other restaurant before we realized we weren't in LuLu's! read more

Best Green Bean Casserole I've ever had. But of course, you don't go to a BBQ joint for the vegetables, now do you? Well, the meat impresses as well. Quite possibly the best brisket I've had, too. The dry rub is perfection. Some pieces are juicier than others, but every darn bite is delicious. The ribs are quite good as well, and the sausage is tasty. Even the chicken was juicy and tender. Now that they are serving draft beer (and not just cans like they used to) this place is a big hit with my beer-BBQ-snob dad, a native Texan. Oh, and back to the vegetables: fried okra is crisp on the outside and sort of gooey on the inside (as it should be), and the grilled vegetables -- usually zucchini and asparagus -- are well cooked and flavorful. I am personally fond of the fried pickles, but I can't convince anyone to share them with me and a whole serving is too much for little old me. ;-) On our last visit, one of the owners was out on the patio where we were. As soon as we sat down, he asked my son if he wanted him to turn on the big-screen TV. Why yes, yes, he did. So the owner put on Finding Nemo and my son sat himself down in one of the little chairs they have lined up. My kids also have enjoyed playing washers and cornhole (sp?) out back while we dined. Overall, this is just a kid-friendly, laid-back, unpretentious neighborhood barbecue joint. Oh! And after chatting for a few minutes, the owner got out his green bean casserole recipe and showed me the whole thing. Walked by this place last year with my wife and baby. It was on a Sunday mid day. Pretty good service. The food was pretty good ad bbq goes. The sauces were of good variety. We have since moved to Louisville. We went last week, nice family stroll ftom the house. We walked in with our 15 month old and the service and the patrons were rude. I work in the service industry and I don't sweat the small stuff but I have never been so irritated. Nobody helped us, we went to try and seat ourselves after waiting and the drunk patrons trampled over us both times we went for a table and laughed at us. But whats more is the staff watched anf didn't do anything. One girl named ashley did eventually help us and saw what happened. The food order was screwed up. Service sucked, patrons sucked. I wish I could write a more eloquent review but I can't. Maybe ill go back when I'm drunk with my rowdy friends and repay the experience. read more

Food is pretty good. The notable one star is how pushy they are at 930pm, zero refills on drinks and only water. The constant cold stares and quickly closing down everything at 930pm when the restaurant closes at 10pm. Hypocrites and absolute disgrace to the restaurant industry. If the food was hot (temperature wise), I would have given this 4 stars. I ordered the pull pork with seasonal vegetable and sweet potatoes totes. The sweet potatoes totes were delicious and the pull pork flavor was good. Also, I like that the pull pork is not drenched in sauce. However, the pull pork and veggies were barely warm. They were definitely cooked, but it seems like the veggie and pull pork were just sitting on a plate while waiting for the sweet potato totes to cook. I don't usually send back food and I was super hungry, so I am sure my food would have tasted better if I send it back to heat it up. My wife is from Texas, and although there are a few decent BBQ places in the boulder area, no one does real Texas style like they do at Lulu's. I had half brisket half beer can chicken, with potatoes and Mac & Cheese. Smothered in their house mild BBQ sauce, it's Lulu's FTW! Be careful of the Hot, it's got legs and ready to kick! The only reason it's getting 4 start is due to lack of space. I realize this was probably an afterthought as far as building this place out, but it becomes and issue when you have to wait 45mins - an hour. Our baseball team went here after two games with several of us really looking forward to some good BBQ. We had a group of about 20 and the parent and kids were freely moving between 4 or 5 tables. A few of the moms ordered some drinks from next door innocently thinking the 2 establishments were conjoined. The manager thought it necessary to come out and scold us for confusing the server by mingling and additionally "breaking multiple liquor laws" by bringing drinks from one place to the other. How about a simple explanation of the rules next time and also posting them on signage without talking to responsibe adults like we are 5. We promptly paid for our drinks and left. The server brought us our check and was choked up because she missed out on a big tip because of the arrogance of the manager. read more

Dropped by Lulu's by myself two days ago at 8pm Wednesday October 16. I have been to Lulu's before but a while ago. The table had a 6" patch in the center where someone had torn the cover off. Surely this could be fixed easily before seating new customers. OK, maybe not a big deal. The food was acceptable (ribs, chips, beans, beer). After eating I went the restroom, but when I returned my unfinished beer had been removed, and the bill left. This is just unacceptable. In my view touching a custorner's drink is a capital offense. Nobody was in sight to moan at, so I left. The next day started fine but by the evening I was having stomach cramps. These lasted the next 14 hours. Two things are certain: the Sun will rise in the East tomorrow, and I will never visit LuLu's read more

We went to Lulu's last summer and it was amazing! Great service, atmosphere, and most importantly the bbq was great. My wife isn't a big fan of bbq so we don't get it often---then my birthday rolled around a week ago and she said we could eat anywhere I wanted---I picked Lulu's---what a mistake. 30 minute wait--no big deal--place was packed and it rained so everyone got packed inside. Ordered our food---they were out of brisket and cornbread----really?????? Ribs would have been better described as jerky, sausage was cold to the point it made it obvious they aren't making it and smoking in house---it's coming out of a package. Server was very friendly and comped the food portion of our bill which got her an appropriate tip for what the bill would have been but definately wasn't enough to get us back in the door. read more

Went here for a weekday lunch. Our server was friendly and the food didn't take long to be served once we ordered. They appear to have an extensive beer menu, but since I was on my lunch break and with all my coworkers, I'll have to try them next time. I ate the brisket sandwich plate, which runs $10. You get a choice of 2 sides, and based on other reviews, I picked the sweet potato tater tots and the green bean casserole. The tater tots were super yummy and piping hot. The first one I ate had gotten a little 'O.P.P' on it, Lulu's mix of onions, peppers and pickles minced fine like a relish. It was actually really good on there, so I kept dipping! The green bean casserole was very straight forward, what you'd expect...good! The barbecue sauces were really yummy, and I liked both the regular and the spicy, which had a healthy kick. My sandwich bread was a bit too spongy for me...sort of like a King's Hawaiian bread roll. I was afraid of getting too full, and prefer savory food, so I skipped most of the bun. The brisket was very tasty, but a bit dry...I suspect I just had bad luck, because everything was great. Next time, I think I'll try a pulled pork sandwich. Overall, cool place, yummy food, will definitely go back. Now to convince them to switch from Pepsi to Coke products. :) read more

I would give this place the old 4 1/2 rating, but ultimately the highs were higher than the lows. First, the good. The brisket was some of the best I've had anywhere (not just Colorado). It was perfectly tender with that beautiful smoke ring on it. Very good. Also, the smoked wings were quite tasty as well. Even the blue cheese they come with was nice. Also, the green bean casserole was very good for what it was. The sausage was what I would describe as "pretty good." Not the best ever but still good. Into this category, I would also toss the sweet potato tots. Now, the stuff I didn't care for. First, I was not particularly impressed with either of the sauces. Neither was bad, but they weren't all that amazing either. I would love to see them come up with a mustard sauce here. Second, I found the ribs to be a tad overcooked. Not in an exaggerated way, but maybe a bit on the dry side. Anyway, I would say this is clearly the best BBQ I have found in Colorado so far and I will happily return. read more

The atmosphere here is really fun and relaxed. If it's not too busy they'll happily bring your food to the table instead of sticking to counter service, which I think is pretty considerate. I like the bar staff, the food is grand for it's beautiful execution of simplicity. However, there is one staff member (toria) rather sassy, not entirely polite, but very effective at getting ones beverage choice delivered adequately. As a vegetarian with a meat eating family, I have a hard time finding things to eat at a bbq place. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a bbq tofu option. Unfortunately, I didn't like it at all. The coating was very tasty, a nice smokey crust, but the tofu inside was bland and sponge like. Pretty disappointing. The service here is definitely exceptional, I told our waitress I didn't like it and she happily accommodated me by getting me some sides instead. I got some coleslaw, mac and cheese, corn bread, and the veggie option, which ended up being broccoli. Everything but the veggie was delicious! The mac and cheese was definitely my favorite. The broccoli was so heavily salted it was completely inedible despite it being well cooked which was pretty sad. I've from Texas so it's easy to dismiss BBQ places that everyone else says is great here in Colorado. The food is good ... damn good but not a place I'd drive too far out of my way for. I found the food on par with Dickey's. The brisket was wonderful, chicken pieces were tasty but the pulled pork was pretty dry. I'm an okra kind of guy and loved this side but wouldn't order the mac & chz again. We got out of there for $25 bucks which is less then what other ppl have priced this place at .... pretty fair. What sold me on this place is the beer selection and the extended happy hour til 6:30 in addition to the decor and full patio sections. Staff was friendly and the place was very clear and has a good amount of TV's for us sport fans. Bravo ... add Texas sized cups, dr pepper and not so dry pork and we're lookin at a 5 star review. read more
