My bf and I were looking for a nice cozy breakfast place to eat at and we saw the amazing reviews and decided to try this place out. My bf had gotten the two egg breakfast with bacon, hash browns, wheat toast,and I had gotten the chilaquiles with green sauce. Service is very fast and we didn't wait that long either. The place is super clean and I just love the portions. This place is definitely the most coziest cafe I've been to and is definitely come back again! read more

If you want to avoid the crowds & have a good b'fast come here! If feels like a family owned restaurant with great hospitality. I have 0 complaints. Coffee was good too. Not too light and not too strong. The waitress was great about refilling my cup as soon as it was getting low. read more

"I'm a lumber jack baby. Gonna cut you down to size" Jackyl Bonus points if you know the classic rock tune I am referencing. Lumberjack Cafe is a no frills diner with some of the best damn sourdough pancakes I have ever had. Sure it's breakfast food the rest of the menu, but those pancakes are a real treat, so are the biscuits and gravy. Definitely will be back read more

Food was so so so so delicious. Believe all of the positive reviews. My family of 7 came in and we sat just about 10 min after walking in on a Sunday afternoon. The customer service was so lovely. Chilaquiles are so so delicious. Hash browns were just as good. We really loved this place and hope to be able to come back soon on our next trip there. read more

First morning in big bear and found this place. Upon arriving we were immediately greeted. We chose to sit outside and were given menus promptly. They took our drink order fairly quickly. I ordered the veggie omelette a with hash browns. It was delicious! The portions are a good size. My kids had pankcakes and eggs. The waiter was checking in on us often to make sure are drinks were filled or we weren't needing anything else. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Wanted some breakfast not too far from our Airbnb and this was the place. No line out the door when we went in but definitely got packed as we got seated. Seemed to be ran by a family in a restaurant that definitely was a house turned restaurant. The service absolutely great for a minimal staff and every seat filled. They even had beer which was tempting at 10am. read more

We stayed in the touristy downtown of Big Bear and on our way back to the great valley below, elected to grab a quick breakfast just outside of town. We decided to visit this wonderful little restaurant on a beautiful autumn Thursday morning. We were one of maybe four other people in the place. It was nice, quiet setting. We could only imagine the place on a weekend or holiday morning. Our experience was what I expected coming from a small family owned place, with real food and real service. The owners live on site and run it as a family. The daughter of the owners (and her little munchkin) was our server this fine morning. Anything we needed, she was right on top it. Food was terrific. After leaving we decided that this would be one of our go-to places when up in the hills of Big Bear. As a footnote, I asked if they had any house made hot sauce and was promptly served a divine, spicy habanero sauce. Good place to stop and have a bite to eat when driving through Big Bear City. I had two sourdough pancakes with the combo option which consists of eggs and four strips of bacon or sausage. Buttermilk pancakes are also available. Be forewarned, the pancakes are very large here. One pancake will probably be enough for the average appetite. Definitely plan on taking the leftovers home. The sourdough pancakes are at least one inch thick and have a strong, fermented tart flavor. The base flavor and aftertaste is very similar to a Chinese white sugar sponge cake, if you are familiar with that. The flavor grows on me but I can see it is not the usual buttermilk pancake. The texture is also much chewier than the usual pancake. I would get these sourdough pancakes again the next time I pass through here. read more

Small and quaint. Local spot for the people who live in Big Bear. Rude a$$ old man yelled at my daughter to close the door. Immediately changed his tune when I walked in behind her. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. The coffee wasn't very hot. the hot chocolate looked delicious. Small spot, so be prepared to wait. If you're a big guy like me, its kind of uncomfortable. Overall the waitress' are nice and the food was good. The bathrooms are small, so again, not very good for fluffy individuals like myself. Servers were friendly. We ordered crab omelet. It was very bland. Just imitation crab meat with eggs. No seasoning. We got two orders of biscuits and gravy and biscuits were so hard to use a fork to cut through. Gravy was very bland. To be fair it is a memorial weekend so food took a while but overall food was very tasteless. If you like tasteless food this is the place for you. read more

The vegetarian omelette sounded AMAZING! Ordered it. For sure they would SAUTEE the veggies before throwing them inside an omelette. Nope. GIANT chunks of tomatoes- bigger than my mouth. Onions must've been on sale because there was no shortage of those in this omelette. So much so, that you really couldn't eat it even if you were OK with giant raw veggies. Sooooo.....thank glad I ordered a biscuit and gravy on the side. Not. The biscuit was so hard I almost asked for a steak knife to cut it. Waste of money here. Pissed. The photo is of my breakfast AFTER I 'ate'. The coffee was good. Literally -that was it. Waitress brought the check without even asking us if the food was good and paid no attention to the fact that a couple plates are pretty untouched. Just terrible. I've been here many times in the past and the food was always decently priced and mom's home cooking style. When we went this last Sunday the breakfast burrito was so dry and the toast board line burnt. And when we got the bill you would have thought we went to a 5 star restaurant we paid $120 before tip for 3 entrees a bagel with ham and 3 champagnes. I'm not one to complain but man that bill sent me. I was expecting to see like $80 at MOST. The champagne comes from a bottle that cost $4.99 at the store and they charge $14 a glass! And the bagel had a single slice of ham on it and they charged $6 for that ONE slice. I get they're trying to make money but Holy moly. Lesson learned. I'm very sad about my experience because I used to love coming here. read more

Came in on a Sunday morning as we headed out of town down the 38. It started to rain and they moved us in from the patio inside with ease when our food was ready. I had my dog with me, but just put him in the car while we ate. I ordered the chicken fried steak with Lumberjack potatoes. Chicken fried steak was smothered in gravy but still crispy underneath, love that. The potatoes were flavorful and soft. Next time I'd probably get crispy hashbrowns. My friend got the corned beef hash and it looked tasty and a solid portion size. We all finished our food in our party of 5. I'd say it was a good experience for all. Table was a tad small for 5 but we made it work. Also noise level was perfect. We could carry on conversation with each other at a normal volume, which was nice. Parking fills up quick but it's not impossible to find a spot. We rolled 5 vehicles deep and were able to find close parking. read more

Review is a little overdue, we were here last month. We came here after trying to find a place for breakfast. Everywhere in town had a minimum of a 1 1/2 hour wait so we decided to drive a little further. They also had a wait but we were able to wait in our car and they call you when your table is ready. Tried this place out on our way home from a week in Big Bear. It's a small place so you may miss it the first time but make sure you stop by! Decor isn't what this place is about. Simple and homely. What you come here for is the good food and great service. I went with the recommendation of the chilaquiles and I wasn't disappointed. Salsa was spicy but flavorful! Eggs cooked perfectly and chips still crispy! 5/5 Also got the biscuits and gravy with bacon! Again, amazing! Home cooked feel to everything! The space is small so be ready to possibly wait! I had the Lumber Jack Benedict which was really good! Loved their gravy and biscuit. I asked for eggs scrambled soft and logger potatoes which were good BUT would have been even better with bell peppers and onions. I would get this again. I give this a 8.5/10. My bf got Huevos Rancheros and he asked for avocado and mushrooms on the side. He gave this only 6/10 and he said it tasted better with what he added. The sauce was more for chilaquiles. The restaurant is nice really and clean. The workers are very nice especially our server! I wish I got her name SMH! They do have good coffee by the way! read more

Went to the Lumberjack Cafe for breakfast for the first time.... We had Alicia & Juan as our servers..... Definitely the best breakfast in Big Bear...... We split the Western Omelet with the Logger Potatoes.....Omelet was big....My dad also had Wheat Toast, & I had a Biscuit & Gravy....... The Biscuit & Gravy is made with a Buttermilk Biscuit.....The way it should be..... Definitely a place to try if you've never been there before..... It is now going to be our ONLY breakfast place up here in Big Bear..... There is no place better or as good.....They are very reasonably priced as well..... Staff is very nice & friendly.....Its a family owned restaurant..... We will definitely be going back time & time again read more

It was delicious and well constructed, with toasted sourdough, thick bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, some red onion, and a very yummy garlic aoli. They offer packets of hot sauce and other condiments for folks like me who want a bit of heat. I'm not a big pastry person, but their pasty case look really good with a wide variety of options. There are lots of coffee options in Big Bear and I've tried a few. I'll stick with Moonridge Coffee Company for a great cup of coffee and meal. I highly recommend this location and will return.

It was worth every minute. This is a small, family-run restaurant--not a corporate chain with an army of cooks hidden behind swinging kitchen doors. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, tasted homemade, and arrived hot and fresh. The staff was warm, welcoming, and working incredibly hard. As a bonus, they're genuinely dog-friendly. We were able to enjoy breakfast with our pup on the patio, and they even have a dog menu. That's not just "dogs allowed"--that's a business that goes the extra mile. Somewhere along the way we've confused "not instant" with "bad service." We expect fresh, made-to-order food from small businesses to appear with fast-food timing, then punish them when it doesn't. Patience has become a lost art. If you're in a hurry, there are plenty of drive-thrus. If you want an outstanding breakfast, friendly people, a place that welcomes your dog as warmly as it welcomes you, and food that's worth waiting for, Broadway Cafe is absolutely deserving of its reputation. Perhaps unorganized in the kitchen or slow in production. This isn't merely just waiting but the fact that your own staff told us different wait times. We did wait. We waited according to your instructions and schedule. We were told many different wait times every time we followed up and asked. The time kept getting longer and longer when there were no other parties waiting but us. First we were told 30mins, then literally minutes later it changed. Then an additional 20mins added. Then, 30. Then we waited, and it changed again. They kept telling us it would be longer and longer. Why would the time go backwards? A small gilled cheese sandwich for an hour? One order. You can ask any business owner or any place outside of your small town that it is a ridiculous wait time for a customer to wait for that long for one small sandwich. Instead of arguing back with your customers, a decent thing to do would have been to apologize and just have accommodated the sandwich just for having us almost an hour of waiting without even getting in. A true business owner wouldn't have responded in how you did. Not only horrible service, but bad ownership practices so I see where it reflects poorly.

Our server was super friendly, attentive, and took our orders right away. The overall food quality was great with generous portions: * Corned Beef Hash: Absolutely delicious! Rich, savory, and cooked just right. * Pancakes: My son loved these--fluffy, tasty, and a huge hit with him. * Homemade Sausage & Butter: Both were standout highlights. After a night of partying with the girl we were starving and wanted a good breakfast. We didn't want to go to far from where we were staying so we came here. Lumberjack, this place is a OK. We walked in and there was not one clean place to sit. I guess that should be a good sign because there busy. The bus boy cleaned a table we sat down and waited for some one to come get our drink order, and waited and waited. I didn't understand at this pint what was taking so long because there was only two other tables. Finally we get our drink and we order. Our food came out and everyone started eating, before I could take one bite of my food my friend gives me the worst look and tells me don't eat that your fries are covered in hair! What! I look down and really look at my food and yup my fries had a bunch of little hairs. I got our waitress and she took my plate away, she gave me a menu and apologized. I ordered new food but I was so grossed out I couldn't eat. Over all this place will get 3 stars, one for the atmosphere, one for the waitress being so nice, and one for everyone else's food. Incredibly yummy sandwiches and I am a fry snob: Theirs are so nice and stay that way. The waffle fries? Awesome. The normal ones? Still great! I had their philly cheese and it was so filling, so good that I had no leftovers. My Mother-in-Law and husband were thrilled with their food here too, the waffles are thick and the servers are nice. Oh my gerd. The breakfast was amazing!! We were a party of six. We got seated very quickly on a Sunday morning. All of the staff that works here is so incredibly friendly. We received the English muffin and took a bite in it and spit it out immediately realizing it had been sent out with a big section covered in mold. We also received the bill and saw we were charged an extra 5.50 for bacon we were told came with the meal. The staff gave us a dessert for the mold but it was just very, very off-putting.
