Decided to come here for an early breakfast on a Saturday. There is not much parking at first when you get there. We had to go down a side street to park in a neighborhood. We got seated right away and the waiter immediately asked if we wanted coffee (yay because we needed that asap). The service was quick and efficient. It's a cozy standard breakfast spot with a variety of options to choose from: omelettes, burritos, Mexican style, pancakes, waffles, etc. I got Annie's Omelette which includes 3 eggs, sausage, tomatoes, onions with a choice of hashbrowns or potatoes or fruit and toast! COVID-19: you need masks to come in! Don't need to show vaccination card. This place was great! We got seated after about 30 minutes. We waited in our car and they call you once your table is ready. The young boy came and got our drink order as soon as we sat down and brought them immediately to us! We looked through the menu that had an abundance of items to choose from, it was hard to choose! I order the complete family breakfast which was huge haha. Food came out about 15-20 minutes after we ordered. The biscuits and gravy were delicious and so were the pancakes! My dad ordered chilaquiles and said they were absolutely yummy. This is a family owned business and it felt very homey! Next time we are up the hill vacationing again we will definitely be back! Lots of choices for a late breakfast in this area. Hard to pick, so we went to Yelp for ideas. The Lumber Jack had a quaint name and a decent feedback score so off we went. Overall a good choice to be sure. Might I recommend their lumberjack potatoes as you breakfast spuds choice. Very fresh and super tasty without too many extra ingredients. We had the chicken fried steak breakfast and it was slightly better than average; this dish can often be hit or miss. I'll give the cook credit though, they know the difference between over easy and over medium. My coffee was only so so, not the worst but not great either, that is part of the 3 star review score. Would we come back? Yes. I'd come back, but order iced tea instead. My wife frequently makes the better choices. Oh and their takeout uses Styrofoam containers and I did see drivers picking up delivery orders while waiting. read more

Amazing little breakfast cafe in big bear. It's a small, homey spot that really embodies the name lumberjack cafe with its Knick knacks and old school vibe. We stumbled in before heading home and was surprised with the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. I subbed chorizo and the mix of potatoes and the side of what tastes like homemade salsa was divine. It's also the size of a small baby so bring your appetite. The pancakes were also unbelievable - they are super thick and fluffy and have the perfect ratio of chocolate chips. A beautiful quant cafe located south on Big Bear Blvd. Not only are the staff welcoming and friendly but they are very respectful. The food was amazing, my mom got the biscuits and gravy and it was all homemade from scratch. I got the steak and eggs with logger potatoes (home style potatoes) and it was phenomenal. This has been our go-to breakfast place in Big Bear for years now. The first time I was here, I ordered their sourdough waffles and I was hooked! The flavor of the sourdough combined with butter and maple syrup... SO good! That's what brings us back here every time we are up the mountain-- well, the waffles AND their super friendly service. I get that it's Memorial Day weekend but I can't imagine this place is any more efficient any other day. We arrived around 10 and stood in line to be seated. The bizarre part was that rather than take names, they made you wait in line to be seated in order...so we had to wait until the party of 5 in front of us to be seated before we were acknowledged...even though several smaller tables sat empty in the process. After waiting my entire life to be seated, we were finally taken inside (even though I stared at a perfectly good table outside the entire time we waited.) The waitress was super friendly so no fault there. Menu was decent with mountain prices. The food was okay but took forever to come out. I tried the sourdough pancake and honestly, if no one had told me it wasn't buttermilk I probably wouldn't have known. It just wasn't overly sweet. Bacon was well cooked so they get points for that. Asked for my hash browns well done and they came out normal. Didn't eat half because they were mushy and oily which isn't my jam. I had the sourdough waffle and a side salad. The sourdough waffle was new to me so I wanted to try it and it tastes just like sourdough bread. The side salad was refreshing and o recommend it. My husband got a huge meal that included corned beef hash, biscuit covered in gravy, eggs, hash browns and 2 pieces of toast. It was a lot of food, but he didn't like any of it. My kids got French toast that was ok and eggs and bacon that they enjoyed. It's on par with a Denny's or IHOP type place for taste, just a smaller place. I have owned a vacation home in Big Bear for over 15 years. Good places to eat in Big Bear are hard to find. The Lumber Jack is hands down one of the best restaurants in Big Bear. Every time I come up, I have to eat here once or twice, and it's been that way for 10+ years. The best item is the Chilaquiles. The sauce on it is so tangy and magical I dream about it! They make it in-house, so you know it's good. I can never choose between Red or Green sauce, so I get half and half. I also love their biscuits and gravy.
