I found this yummy place after going to a Yelp event in the same parking lot. I went in to check it out. They carried a lot of snacks as well as some basic ingredients. I didn't get to check out their frozen food selection. They also offer cooked food! I also noticed they offered catered food. I knew I had a camping event coming up not too far from here and I signed up for a potluck item. I thought this would be perfect, who doesn't like egg rolls (lumpia)?! So I placed my order and paid on the spot. Two weeks later I picked up my order and got a couple of cooked food to eat on the way. Was in town because we were purchasing a toyota from down the street at poway toyota. Our sales agent happened to be filipino and I asked for a recommendation for filipino food and she suggested this place. When i arrived they were out of veggie lumpia but i got a dozen meat lumpia for $10. As well as some calamansi juice, pan de sal and a pork empanada. As most filipinos are we are very picky with lumpia and other food but this lumpia was so similar to my moms i regret not getting more! I've tried a few things here and I'm only a fan of the veggie lumpia, it looks more like a egg roll because how big it is but it's so good with the vinegar they provide. I ordered the 2 item combo and an additional item. I also ordered a dozen lumpia (which my first instinct upon entering was NOT TO DO) and, as a last minute comparison, I also added a dessert. I feel the need to comment on the quality of their food bc other reviews have previously detailed a few shortcomings and I wanted to give Lumpia House the benefit of maybe an isolated bad review or two. I was hoping those reviews were the exception vs the rule. The combo I ordered was packed with LOTS of rice but the small amount of the 2 "items" that comprised the combo was NOT worth $15. Nor was the $2 per longanisa (that I was instructed to try) and the $11+ for the dozen lumpia that was over fried (blackened burnt wrapper insides), dried out (couldn't tell it had meat much less what the filling was supposed to be) and tasted like they were under the heat lamp for hours (warm, very chewy and absolutely no flavor). I guess I over anticipated offerings for a place called LUMPIA House. Even the bottled sauce on the side that accompanied it did not manage to salvage the lack of flavor and quality. Our group schedules a few weekends of lumpia rolling a year to supplement our numerous family gatherings. I would have been embarrassed to put these out, much less expect anyone to pay almost $1 a piece. And to make it even more difficult to recommend this place, the prices that the cashier rung up were higher than was listed/quoted for my purchases (at first glance I thought it was because they had already added the sales tax to the items) yet I also noticed that sales tax was also rung up separately and included in the price. I didn't think twice to pay what I did until I got home and noticed the lack of quality in the food. Pre-pandemic, I came in here a few times to give coworkers a "taste of the Philippines" and they have all enjoyed the food enough to come back. My visits recently have been few and far between. The GOOD: The food is decent, especially the lechon and sisig. I have come is just to have lechon or sisig and have always left satisfied with either. I get my lumpia fix elsewhere (from mom), but I'm told from the guests I bring in that the lumpia is good. It looks good and they always have some hot and ready to go here. I'm also told the dinuguan is surprisingly meaty, unlike other places. The pancit here is basic, but far better than I can make it. Haha. I'm still working to perfect my recipe. They have a small Asian grocery store inside and feature a surprisingly large collection of different Filipino ice cream and snacks. The NOT SO GOOD: The mechado I had recently was so full of fat I didn't finish it. I just ate the veggies and tossed the rest (sad face). SERVICE: Service is slow! It does not matter if you come in right when they open or right before closing time. There is only one person assembling your order and taking payment so if there is a line (like at lunch time) you will need to bring your patience. I'm going to have to agree that the food here at the Lumpia House is a 'hit and miss'. The entrees (at least, for me) are never appetizing. I have tried them several times and, almost always, a FAIL. My family and I tried this place for the first time today and I cannot say enough good things about this place. The service was fantastic! They were very friendly and inviting. The inside is clean and I love that they have different snacks and other items from the Philippines and other countries that you would not necessarily find at a typical grocery store like Vons. I got an order of the salt and pepper chicken wings, large pancit (they do not skimp on the size or quantity), and meat lumpia. Everything was freaking fantastic! Wanted to try this place after I saw it on the news and man I was not disappointed, it's best Filipino restaurant in San Diego! Definitely go and try the food! They have a wide selection outside of lumpia and lots of Asian snacks that you can't find anywhere else! The service is good and very friendly. Lumpia was warm and crunchy, the pansit was freshly made and the adobo was not too sweet but still tangy. Definitely good, their heart is in the right place. I get the impression two people run it and they're just run into the ground trying to fulfill all orders. I try to be understanding and put myself in their position. A great little deli and grocery store hidden away in Poway. I love that I can pop in and grab certain food items that I can't find at local supermarkets. I once went to Lumpia house a long time ago and it wasn't that great. When my friend suggeste6it today I thought ok...let's give it another try. Glad I did because its definitely improved. I ordered a 2 entree plate with pork sisig, a kind of thick noodle soup (sorry not sure of the name), pancit, and the sour soup. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge. I had enough left over for two days! They said that they make torta (eggplant) occasionally, but couldnt tell us when. This establishment used to be Rita's Gelato but now replaced by Lumpia House. It's in the Poway Library Plaza with Goodwill Book Store and now that Poway Sushi relocated, parking has freed up. We initially came here to inquire about lumpia for an upcoming party event. They charge $23 for 50 pieces or $46 for $100 plus tax. Then we saw the deli area and decided to order dinner. Rice with 2 side order ($7.99): Sig sig and two longaniza. Pancit w 2 side order ($9.99): Pork Steak and Menudo 2 Salt and Pepper wings ($1 each) 12 Lumpia ($5.99) Chicken chicharon ($3.50) The sig sig was delicious with the crunch of the pork rinds. Having rice with this order and the longaniza was a win-win. Most Filipino foods are salty so the rice would balance it out. I love pancit and although I thought the taste was fine, my mom thought it was too salty. So it'll depend on your palate. I wouldn't get the pork steak again because it was pretty dry. The menudo was alright. The meat was cut in thick chunks and I felt that it didn't catch the full marination like the veggies. I was not a fan of the wings and thought the inside meat was dry with no flavor. They ran out of pork chicharon so we ended up getting chicken. All I could think about was cholesterol..lol but it was so addicting and a luxury to have once in awhile. The lumpia was comparable to other places. There's a corner section for a mini mart with all kinds of goodies and even flavored Kit Kats! Chestnut, Nut & Berries, Green Tea, and Strawberry. No longer have to drive to Mira Mesa or Clairemont, it's all here at your local Poway store. There's even an ice cream fridge selling Magnolia Ice Cream with flavors such as Thai Tea and ube. Plenty of seating area but it does get hot and humid in here. There's a ceiling fan and floor fan. We were there at 5pm and there was a consistent crowd after us with adults getting off work and kids getting off from nearby dance class. They all took take out. We sat and dined in. I appreciate this little place because we are supporting mom and pop shop. One person was manning the front and one person was in the kitchen. They were constantly refreshing the items as they ran out but it only took about ten minutes per batch to wait. At the same time, the phone was ringing off the hook. Came on a Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm for a late lunch. We were the only customers there. The foods are already cooked, you just have to pick which ones you want. There was a good selection of Filipino foods that afternoon. They even had spaghetti. We chose to eat there, We ordered 2 combo plates and got the Pork Sinigang, Afritada, pancit and Fried fish and they were all good. Just a little bit salty and dry on the pancit but it was tasty.
