After a terrible experience with Cadillac of Portland, I was looking for a service department I could actually trust with my Cadillac Escalade. After doing some research, I decided to give Lum's GMC a try for my engine recall, and I am so glad I did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the very beginning, my service advisor, Shaun, was absolutely outstanding. His communication was excellent, he kept me informed throughout the entire process, and I genuinely felt like my vehicle was in good hands.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Customer service like his is hard to find, and he made a stressful situation much easier.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I do want to mention that after the new engine was installed, my Escalade ended up stranded on the side of the road because a technician had accidentally forgotten to reconnect a clamp on a reservoir. While that was certainly frustrating, what truly impressed me was how Lum's handled the situation. I called and left a message, and their team immediately stepped up. They arranged to have my vehicle towed back to the shop on a Saturday, quickly diagnosed and corrected the issue, and then went above and beyond by personally delivering my vehicle back to me because of the inconvenience. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but a company's true character is shown by how they respond when something goes wrong. Lum's GMC handled it with professionalism, accountability, and genuine care. Because of Shaun and the way the entire team took ownership of the situation, I have complete confidence in bringing my Cadillac back for future service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I purchased a new gmc 1500 denali in 2023 had a great experience with Jake our sales rep. No nonsense very professional. Give him 5 stars[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Now to the service department. Had my truck in for a warning light and service in January after nearly a week they tell me to come and pick it up it needs a windshield camera that's on back order and will be a few weeks to get. I go to pickup it up pay for service and when I get to the truck there are part and pieces laying on the dashboard. So ok someone forgot to put it back together. A mechanic comes out an reassembled the pieces. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fast forward 4 months. I get a call asking if I still want the camera installed that came in in April that no called to let me know that it had arrived[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . Of course I do with several functions not working do to the problem. I schedule a time to get it installed and an oil change that instead of it taking a few hours as told it takes 3 days. I asked for oil change and a new air filter that was down to 15%. I picked up the truck they changed oil but not the filter as requested. I get in the truck and drive away and a warning comes up low washer fluid. Even the cheapest place in town tops off the washer. Needless to say I'm not happy with Lums service department. read more

On January 14th we took our truck into Lum's to diagnose a check engine light, which ended up being a particulate matter sensor. This was covered under our warranty. The sensor had to be ordered, so we took our truck back until that time. We brought our truck back on February 11th. During replacement of the sensor the service department broke the sensor off into the exhaust, which caused them to have to replace part of the exhaust and now our truck was not drivable. On February 13th they said they would need to order a new exhaust since they had been unable to extract the sensor. Then on February 18 they said they again they were unable to extract it and would need order the exhaust from out of state which was going to take a couple of weeks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On February 26th they let my husband know that the service manager he had been working with was no longer working for them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] March 10th they told him the part should be there the next day and the hope was to have it fixed and back to us that Friday the 13th. On Tuesday the 17th they told him that the truck needed another sensor and that needed to be ordered. Finally on March 19th my husband was able to get the truck back. He drove the truck directly to his place of employment, about 10 mins away, at which time he noticed scratches down the passenger side of his truck. He immediately text the service manager pictures and a text saying he had picked up his truck and there was damage to the paint which was not there prior. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service manager never responded. The next morning he called them and was told to bring in the truck, they would look at it, and make it right.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When he brought it in the service manager was on lunch and someone else there took pictures. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Later he spoke to the service manager on the phone and he said he had enough pictures, but the general manager wanted to see it in person.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Again that Friday it was brought back in and the general manager was already gone, but at that time the service manager took more pictures, said they would make it right, but needed to wait to see what the general manager wanted to do. Then on Monday March 23rd he text for an update on how they were going to fix it. On Monday they asked him to bring it in the next morning. Then on Tuesday the 24th he was told they wanted to try to buff it out and if they couldn't do that they would have it painted. They later text saying they had buffed it out. When my husband retuned to get the truck he brought a body tech with him and they pointed out a crease in the bed of the truck under the spot where the scratches were and places Lum's had now cut through the clear coat when trying to buff out the scratch plus 3 chips in the paint down to bare metal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Later that day he received a text asking him to send in a quote from his body shop and the service manager was going to try to get the general manager to pay for it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After he sent the quote he was told they would pay to send it to the paint shop they deal with to have it painted only. He told them he did not want to send it to their shop and would like to send it to one of his choosing. They refused and said they would only pay to have it repaired at their shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He later went in to talk to the general manager. She proceeded to walk around his truck and tell him she can tell it is a work truck and she wanted to know why he was concerned about this damage when he had other dents. She told him he acts like his truck is pristine when it isn't.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He told her he wanted his truck back to the same condition he took it to Lum's in and again said he did not want it sent to their shop. He said he would get other quotes from other shops he trusts and the general manager agreed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This morning on March 25th he sent them a quote from another shop. They later text back saying they would only have it repaired at their shop and they would only be paying for half of the repairs because they didn't even know if the damage was from them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He asked them for insurance information to file a claim and they ignored the request.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] read more

Service is fine until you see they charge you an extra 3% if you pay with credit cards. Their prices are too high in the first place. They literally CHARGED ME FOR CHARGING ME. And this seems particularly egregious because the 'fee' they charged me for paying their bill is surely a business expense they can write off. That means I get to pay them for something they actually get free after all the accounting is done. Let that sink in. Seriously, how often does anybody pay a $600+ repair / maintenance bill in cash? Your policy is not customer-friendly, Lum's. It''s greedy. Good thing there are other dealerships. read more

We were planning on purchasing a vehicle from lums. I drove two hours to look at the vehicle. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our sales representative was very kind and helpful ( he did seem new and told us he was newer).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had received some photos of the truck and some minor damage the vehicle had but when I looked in person there was significant more damage and rust. The reason for the two stars has nothing to do with the condition of the truck, it's to be expected as purchasing a used vehicle. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The rating is due to the way I was spoke to by the finance person. He was EXTREMELY rude to me after I told him I was not interested in running my credit as I was pre approved from my bank and had financing secured.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then in front of me he yelled at the car salesman for not having a file ready for him. These guys/gals were GREAT. We were able to do ALL the paperwork online in advance, we just told them what we were looking for and they found it and got it there. Amazing communication via texts every couple days letting us know the progress. Then they called when the perfect truck was ready to look at, we pulled up and it was ready to and they handed us the keys for a test drive. The truck was EXACTLY what we were looking for and we were out the door with it in less than two hours (including the DMV stuff), which in our experience is unheard of. I asked if they could vacuum the car, which they don't do on Saturday's but they did it also and it had a lot of dog hair and they did a great job. Owner is nice and engaging. Service department is terrible. They broke a lug on my truck while rotating tires for routine service. Told me to "take it to Les Schwab" to get it fixed. I told them they needed to fix it. Once they did, I got home and noticed oil leaking. Found the oil filter was lose. Later found they broke my wheel center caps and tried covering it up. I won't go back. Poor business practices. I suspect if the owner knew how I was treated, they would not be happy. read more

I purchased a very nice 2002 SLS Cadillac from another dealership. I called Larsen to help me program or find a 2nd remote entry fob and a 2nd transponder key. I checked around BEFORE going to Larsen. This dealership wanted to charge me nearly $100 for a new fob and $49 for a new key + $30 to program them. Total of approx $ 179+. I got a new fob on the internet for $21 and was quoted $19 at a locksmith for a new key. Total of $40. I let Larsen sell me a $49 key because he said it was the only one that would work with my VIN on this Cadillac ( not true). They then charged me $ 30 to program my $21 remote fob. Total $79 for cutting a key and a 10 minute program of the fob! When I asked about a new customer discount they laughed at me. I had intended getting my service on this car locally in McMinnville at Larsen's..... Forget that!!! The Lexus dealership programmed my Lexus remotes complementary. When I lost my keys they gave me new key rings and the total cost for a new remote fob and key was $59. This was a small thing, but a great opportunity for Larsen to create a great new customer relationship and insure future business. What a shame for them to miss an opportunity. I'm sure it's not the first time if you look at the other reviews. It's a small town guys... Wake up! Many McMinnville merchants complain that locals do all their business in Portland and Salem .... Wonder why??? Go take a marketing and customer satisfaction class.... If you like spending excess funds and getting laughed at go to Larsen!! read more

So when buying a car here I pointed out the price they were charging was more than thousand more than the previous week and the current online price. They responded it was a mistake and refused to honor it. They tried also to tack on extra stuff. They're a little sketchy. Go elsewhere. I had a safety related issue, and just had it fixed elsewhere because they would not acknowledge it. I'll be buying a new one soon and will order it out of Mac at another caddy dealer. I had already reviewed Larsen's service department as being dishonest and shady, but I got news from another certified dealer about how shady this service department really is. I had them check the body control module as well as all the other codes and it came back that they think the car had been in some kind of fender bender or something on the left side, and somebody (Larsen Motors, since I bought the car from them- they had been using it as a rental car) reprogrammed the module. This totally fits with the mirror being damaged from the get-go, with them denying any involvement, blaming it on us instead. These guys are doing illegal and unethical things in the service department, for your own sake stay away. read more

Hi all, I don't really ever write reviews either good or bad but my experience at Larsen's Motors was so horrible I thought maybe I could help someone else out, as it's already too late for me. I purchased a 2005 Cadillac Escalade 2 days ago (Monday December 14th 2009). I took it on a test drive around the dealership, checked all the knobs etc...(e.g. windshield wipers front and back, heated seats and so forth). The heated seats in the back did not work and there were a few other "quirks" but the price was right and there didn't appear to be any major defects, so I went ahead and bought it. Boy was that a mistake. On the way home (I live in Tualatin about 30 minutes away), the rear windshield wiper quit working (actually, it fell off and was hanging down by my bumper all the way home...). Then the front axle started making a high pitched whining noise at speeds above 50 mph (on my test drive there was no freeway access so I didn't get it above 35 mph). I've driven a car before that made the same noise and it ended up being axle bearings that needed replacing (believe me, not a cheap repair). During the test drive, there were no noises and the wiper worked fine so it's not like I bought the car expecting axle problems and for things to fall off the car.... So I got home and immediately called the dealership wanting to give the car back and get my money back. Keep in mind, this had only been about an hour later so it's not like I bought it, drove it for 2 months and then changed my mind because I wanted a different car. This was me buying a car (and not a cheap one) in good faith that there were no mechanical problems or any other issues (aside from the heated seat thing I mentioned above). I think if, within the first hour things start falling off the car and you start noticing noises that weren't present during the test drive, you'd have an opportunity to just say "hey, no harm no foul - the car obviously has some issues that were not readily apparent an hour ago when I drove it, let me give it back to you, you give me back my money and you can tell the next person about the issues or fix them and re-sell it". Well, the response I got to that was "hey, we didn't do anything wrong - you should've bought a warranty". Now, I'm not an idiot, I know that legally when you purchase a used car you're kind of rolling the dice but I would expect that when you buy from a dealership (especially one that purports to being around since 1940) that they would at least do some minimal mechanical checking before selling it, and if they "miss" something as noticeable as a whining axle they'd say "hey, our bad, we missed it, we'll take it back and do the right thing." Now, I understand they are a business and are not in it necessarily to "do the right thing" but to make money. However, is the $20k+ really worth leaving the customer with a horrible buying experience? I mean, if I even tell 100 or 200 friends and acquaintances about my experience and 5-10 of them ever considered buying from Larsen's, then they've already lost upwards of $100k dollars. And it's not like they'd be taking a loss taking it back - I put only about 20 miles on it so they would just have to put it back in their inventory, fix the issue and sell it again. As I mentioned, "legally" they are under no obligation to do this (at least I'm assuming - I'm no lawyer), but morally, and from a future business standpoint I would think they would at least consider the option. In any case, that is my experience with "Western Oregon's Most Reputable Auto Dealer" (ironically proudly displayed right on their website). Oh yeah, lastly I woke up the next morning and pulled out of the driveway and there was a new dashboard rattle which just started up. It feels like they put this car together with duct tape just hoping it would last long enough for some sucker (yay me!) to take the headache off their hands. In any case, I'm still a bit hot about all of this and I don't want people to think "oh yeah, there's just one picky customer with a bad experience - our experience won't necessarily be like that!" Obviously if Larsen's has a car you really want for a cheap price, you will consider it. I just hope that this review will make you think twice and at least consider alternate dealers or at the very least, get something in writing saying that "within 24 hours if the car starts falling apart will you agree to take it back?" Just be careful and cover yourselves. I sincerely hope this helps someone. Good luck and happy car hunting! EDIT: I talked with the owner there hoping he'd be more open to customer satisfaction. We all have been there. We see something we like. We get excited. We throw caution to the wind and whisper "oh please let this be the one". We give more than we should. Kind of like a one night stand that is regretted in the morning. Actually it's just like a one night stand. They promise you the stars and after you give them all your personal information, credit card number, every piece of money information you have, you sit and wait for four hours. They send you home with a "I will call you tomorrow." I tried not to look desperate. I tried to play it cool. But I called the next morning in hopes they would say anything. The not knowing where our relationship was going was unnerving. Alas, they said they would call us back in a little bit as they were sending it back for review. I waited and waited. I finally called again late in the afternoon. I was put to voicemail. I left a message and got a call back saying sorry you were not approved at this time. I realized I should be wearing the Scarlet Letter for trusting and being so easy to believe them. I gave 2 stars because the saleswoman was nice. read more

Terrible customer service. They sold me a car and took my deposit. then turned around and sold the same car to another client I am guessing it is because the other customer paid more.. I could not believe it! Then the sale manager tried to call me and blame it on the sale guy that he heard the wrong information! What a bunch of schemer! I will not recommend working with these guys you can only imagine the quality of the cars by the quality of the relationships they build with their customers. Honestly I'm so disappointed with their service AND the type of car they sold me. After i bought the car, one of the service lights next to" check engine" light turned on and after that, the AC didn't WORK! I pay a warranty insurance so they say it's possible that the insurance will cover it but gosh they are taking forever to look at my car! I'm considering a trade in at Chuck Colvin Nissan, they have provided better assistance than LARSON! I do not recommend buying a var at larson, they will LIE to you just to sale a car. read more

I was told that they use Kelly Blue Books to establish the value of your trade on new vehicles. However, after driving 100 miles they informed me that my vehicle was too new (1 year old) to use KBB and instead quoted a whole sale value to me. They can do business anyway they want, but do not misrepresent how the value of trades are established contradicting earlier information. This dealership is just another ho-hum screw the customer to maximize obscene profits. I will now deal only with Portland dealerships and no more small town misrepresentations. read more

I've been waiting until my car was paid off to write this review. Though I LOVE my car, this is the WORST car dealership I have ever dealt with. It was an extremely long process (several hours). I felt exhausted at the end and just wanted to sign and get out of there. I liked the sales woman but the manager was horrendous. I was quoted one price for an extended warranty and told it would last for three years. However, when it was written out, the warranty price was much higher and it turned out to be three years or thirty thousand miles (I was never given this information). I was also quoted a much lower interest rate on my loan. Again, when it was all done, the interest rate was higher. I even received a letter from Wells Fargo (Financial Institution) explaining that the loan the dealership chose was not the one they recommended for buying cars and had a higher interest than their regular loans. I will NEVER recommend this dealership to anyone. It feels very shady and it clearly is all about the profit they make without concern for the customers best interest. read more

Me and my fiance had been looking at cars for 3 months when we saw an Acura MDX show up on their page for an absolute steal. After checking it out we knew it would be a fantastic purchase. I mean this thing was clean and priced well below what KBB, Edmunds, and NADA said was a good deal. Now as a 23 year old student with little credit but with a very comfortable financial situation, it seemed like it would be an easy purchase. Unfortunately we were wrong and my lack of credit history with a non-traditional income status meant that I literally could not get financed by a bank on my own. I got some great information and service from Gregory but ended up working with another salesman, Wes. Wes spent over 5 hours with me trying to find a way to get me in this car. He didn't try to trick me(although honestly when a car was priced like theirs was, it makes it a much more pleasurable process) and kept me entertained throughout the wait. When it became apparent that I would have to get co-signed, they held this highly-desirable car with multiple serious leads for me without charge. The help and friendliness of this dealership transcended slimy,successful salesman. I was truly treated like a valuable customer. Their finance manager, Dan, worked tirelessly(5+hours on the phone) to find a bank for me and after greeting the OWNER, even he joined the campaign and that gesture was priceless. When I arrived to purchase my car there was little-to-no pressure on purchasing extra services and there's wasn't a single point in the process that I became frustrated with the transaction. Larsen motors has earned two lifetime customers and as an institution, I haven't experienced anything close.
