Happy hour heaven at this modern Mexican fusion restaurant! With a $6 Modelo draft, and a couple of Border crunchy tacos, husband got happy on orange grease. Then he got adventurous and health conscious when he ordered the Ceviche Asiatico. What a unique dish with a beautiful presentation! Plentiful shrimp with large slices of onion, cucumber and a spicy sweet sauce. It was quite a surprise and packed a punch. We wished the tostadas that accompanied the dish were not so burnt and that the sesame crema was on the side instead of the tortillas. The pile of fried onions on top was a bit odd but easy to remove. We liked that we could choose a discounted full size appetizer like this one, or something smaller from the HH specials menu. Queso con carne dip was my appetizer, with snappy chips and tender ground beef on top of gooey cheese sauce. Oh, and the delicious meaty sauteed mushrooms on top of the dish make it so much better than anyone else's queso! How can you go wrong? Well, it turns out... it was by ordering the Spanish shrimp and mussels. I was expecting a broth filled vessel of shellfish. I got a sour tasting white sauce on a plate, under a few unflavored crustaceans sprinkled with chorizo crumbles. This dish was a MISS. We found the restaurant to have a great vibe, a pretty interior and helpful servers. My friend and I had dinner here last week. We really enjoyed the happy hour menu. Such a great deal! They have a few kinks to work out, as they just opened. But overall, I can see this place doing really well. The food is good, the ambiance is great, and the drinks are pretty good. I highly recommend the fish and chips and the brisket dip. There was a weird moment with our server. We were still enjoying our food and drinks, she asked if we needed boxes and we said "no thank you, we are still working on it" but she brought us boxes a few minutes later. Our server was nice but unfortunately did only take our order and drop off drinks; did not make any effort to make sure we were doing alright or if we needed anything else. I've been to Luna Bistro several times. I have always been impressed, which is why I returned. I got there on a Friday @ 3 PM to meet 3 friends. The place was already quite busy! While we did receive service almost immediately after being seated, that is when the WAIT began... We ordered our drinks, and waited (15 minutes?) for round 1. We finished our drinks, and then waited at least another 20 minutes for round 2. The server said she would be back for our food order shortly. That didn't happen. Once we finally ordered food - 4:15 PM, only MY order came to the table. My friends were eating off my plate because they were so hungry. 10 minutes later, everyone else at my table got their food. The servers changed shifts in the middle of our dining experience, but the bottom line is the place was ridiculously understaffed on the floor, at the bar, in the kitchen. Luna Bistro is close and convenient with a pleasant atmosphere. But until they are better staffed, I've got better options. read more

I saw the bartender pour our wine and then waited 15 minutes before I finally got up and got it myself. The dinner took 2 1/2 hours because the service was so slow. Great food and great ambiance! My friends and I came here on a Sunday night to celebrate her birthday and despite being a large group, we were accommodated very quickly. I would definitely recommend the ceviche as it was super fresh and the portion was so good! The naughty fries were also super delicious (think animal fries but better). For my entree, I got the carnitas tradicionales and my friend got the pollo Luna. The carnitas were super flavorful but I do wish they gave more guac on the side! We have tried Luna around three times since they opened in place of another restaurant. We have had positive experiences every time and the food is pretty good as well. The prices are a little high but if you come for Happy Hour you can get a taste of some good menu items for cheaper than the regular menu. Service was efficient the first time but the last few times it was kinda slow hence the 4 stars. Parking is free but the lot is kinda small. The overflow parking is by Target which is a larger lot. The ambience is everything as you can see from some of my photos and other reviews here so if you are looking for a cool spot with a very trendy vibe this is it! Luna Bistro Cafe is something special! What a lovely experience trying this restaurant that apparently opened just 6 weeks ago?! From the outside it's unassuming, but inside you're transported to a boho chic interior design with earthy tones and natural looking pieces. I'm pretty smitten and will be telling everyone about this spot. Will have to come back for HH, but they have a variety of drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), as well as appetizers and main dishes. Plenty of different options to meet your latest cravings. Food was fresh, a little pricey for tacos but expected with more upscale dining. Service was excellent, Natalie was wonderful! I have been here twice- once for a date night, then returned for a birthday celebration. I will say that the two servers I had were a little unclear about which dishes were gluten free. I do not think they have been open long, and the first time we went our server had to be convinced to go ask the kitchen about a few sauces and whether or not the fries were gluten free (good news- they are!). Luna Bistro Cafe is a welcome addition to Long Beach. I think the name is a little misleading as this is a beautifully decorated semi-upscale Mexican restaurant. We stopped in for Happy Hour (Mon-Fri 2-5:30) and sat at the bar. We also happened to be in on Taco Tuesday which includes a discount on tacos from the regular menu. The HH menu is full of HH exclusive dishes and also includes a $5 discount on both signature cocktails and starters. So if you can, definitely come in for the Happy Hour! We enjoyed our cocktails and the welcoming service from the bartender. I had the Shrimp Gobernador Verdes taco plate. The filling was delicious and I appreciated the portion size. I just wish the tortilla was crispy like a traditional gobernador taco as it was prepared a little on the limp side. We also had the Mini Baja Fish Tacos which were a perfect snack portion if you want something light or want to order a spread of dishes. I want to come back to try some items from their burgers and sandwiches section, as well as some of their unique coffee creations like the Bananas n' Cream Shaken Espresso. Normally I wait for a few months after a restaurant opens...but I saw too many instagrams raving about this place-so I had to try it. The decor is really well done. The happy hour menu has excellent, tasty options. We started with the nachos (delicious), followed by the crunchy tacos and the fish and chips. I wasn't as impressed with the fish and chips, but everything else was really good--especially at happy hour pricing. Definitely not your typical greasy bar food. I had a yummy margarita while my partner enjoyed a beer. It was very busy during happy hour but started to clear out afterward. There's plenty of seating, and the space itself is just really neat. Extremely pleasant and east on the eyes. The menu features a nice variety of dishes and even coffee creations that I wish I got to try (only available before lunch I think?) I called a few times to try to place an order and no one was picking up the phone, so I drove over, placed my order and sat outside, waiting for my food. The person at the cashier said I'd be about 15 mins, but I waited almost 30 - And when I inquired about my order found it was sitting, waiting for me. I got their Ranchera Steak Tacos ($19) - Beef flap steak strips, grilled onions, guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo with two tortillas stuffed with melted cheese. It came with some beans and rice, which were just okay. The rice was a little dry and the beans tasted like it needed some more flavor. But the tacos? They were really good! The steak was cooked perfectly, there was just enough filling inside, and I loved the melted cheese on the tortillas. I ate it up real fast! They have burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and several entrees ranging from Fish 'N Chips, chicken, steak, pasta, and even have some vegetarian/vegan options. They also serve cold brews along with the normal soda's you'd find anywhere. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful - Lots of cream and white colors paired with the exposed wood and flora spread throughout. It's also bigger than it looks. Parking could be a challenge, especially during peak hours and especially if there's construction in the parking lot. It's right next to the bagel shop, Jersey Mikes, and a bank. read more

Wings were nice and spicy, which the owner made himself, the steak was tender, the sauce was bright, and the sandwich was my favorite, with crispy shrimp, fresh slaw, and a buttery bun. All the drinks were well balanced, none of them were too sweet or overpowering, and everything came out at a good pace. Staff were friendly, attentive, and fast paced. The owner stepped in and helped serve, greet guests, and announce last call for happy hour, which was really great to see. Decor is beautiful, modern, and stunning. Luna Bistro Cafe took over a gastropub spot and modernized the space to serve modern Mexican-driven menu in an open atmosphere. It was a little difficult to find as it is inconspicuously in the same shopping complex as Target. They also have live music that is not overly loud but provides a nice background to the somewhat upscale ambiance. I had the enchiladas suizas which was nicely presented with a sour cream design in the sauce. The enchiladas actually tasted very good and were quite filling. They were served with a side of rice and beans. With a full bar, they also offer specialty cocktails which were well thought out and complimented my dinner well. Solo diners can take heart that they can sit at the bar and order from the full menu. Service was generally good as well and friendly. It was pretty full on a Saturday evening and the wait staff was usually available and attentive. They don't take reservations on the weekends so wait times can vary for a table. They only have a few booths that can accommodate large parties of 6-8 or more. Most of their setups are for 2, 4, or 6. We were able to get a table for 6 in 30 minutes. Larger parties without being able to make a reservation would have a bit of a challenge in getting a table. Overall the food and service were a great dining experience and well worth the wait. read more

This is such a unexpected venue from the parking lot vantage point. Don't underestimate how beautiful this place can be by judging the outside. There is a lot of parking here and it's right by a target. This corner lot really took advantage of all its space. Once you walk in, you'd appreciate how big this place really is. The color palette is simply stunning. It has a great Mediterranean/Spanish vibe with rattan lights and cream color that adds to the luxury feel. Whoever decorated this place deserves a lot of attention because it simply adds to the classy feel. You won't feel out of place dressed up once you walk in. The seats are super Duper comfortable. It's almost like a wraparound type of seat. Kind of says ready to take off for a great food adventure! The salmon was so flaky and perfectly cooked with the buttery rice. Ceviche was on point with the spice and amount that is given. The hamburger is not a first date type of food because it's extremely messy but go ahead and devour if mess is not a problem. The lentil soup with two salty for my liking. Overall review of the food is it is very tasty but a bit over salted. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area. We ordered the Parmesan wings, mini smashed sliders, and ceviche. The Parmesan wings were one of the best I've tried -- super flavorful. Finally made it over to Luna Bistro Cafe. My brother actually took me for dinner on my birthday. :) Parking was seamless. We just parked out front in the lot and there's plenty of overflow parking. To start, I actually visited this place before when it was the sports bar. I think they did a wonderful job of flipping the space, the vibe and decor of this place gives it a significantly different feel. I love the neutral colors, greenery, sculptures and fine lines. The basket light fixtures are a lovely touch and the stage is super cute. Will definitely have to come back for the live music. The salon bites and eggplant appetizers were not our favorite. They lacked flavor significantly. Dipping sauces were provided but I think when the dipping sauce is plain as well, more herbs and spices should be considered here. The apps made us nervous about the entrees, but the steak entrees were amazing. Both of us enjoyed our dishes. My brother was talking about it the next day lol. The veggies and potatoes were perfectly prepared and the entire dish was overall super enjoyable. The cocktails looked and tasted wonderful. Both beautifully done!
