While on vacation in Cayucos my daughter and I had the pleasure of stopping in here for coffee and breakfast. We ordered the Mexican mocha and vanilla chai lattes to drink. For our meal we had the breakfast burrito, acai bowl and a strawberry muffin. Everything was delicious! Service is a bit slow, but there aren't that many coffee shops in town, so you will have to be patient. We came pretty early, so it was OK when we got there, but there was a long line as we left. Sit in their beautiful garden patio, relax, and enjoy! I when returned later in the day for a mid afternoon pick me up. I had an iced chai latte and though on the spicier side, it was still so good! Was happy to find a place that serves sandwiches with a cool patio to eat on. The turkey bacon melts weren't cheap and had only a single slice of turkey. Luna Coffee Bar can be accessed through a little walkway between Brown Butter Cookie Company and another business. That does not necessarily mean it is hidden and divey. They have several charming signs on the sidewalk in front and the walkway is beautifully decorated to make you feel like you're walking under garden archways. It opens up in the back to cute little outdoor patio that eventually connects to a cute garden eating area for the restaurant next door. Very charming. We stopped in Cayucos on our drive to Carmel. We love to walk through the antique stores on the main street. As it was time for lunch we searched Yelp to find a place for a sandwich. Luna Coffee Bar had good reviews. I would have never seen it as it is hidden behind another cafe so thank goodness we have yelp. We sat outside and enjoyed our sandwiches in a peaceful cozy plant filled spot. I could have sat there all day. I had a turkey cranberry sandwich, always a favorite of mine. It was a good size sandwich but nothing out of this world. We didn't come early enough to sample their coffee (no coffee for us after 12!) so I have nothing to report about that. Ambiance was nice but waiting for 45 minutes for a breakfast burrito is a little long. We went in and asked at 35 minutes and they said it will be right out. Came here last week and tried it for the first time at my boyfriend's suggestion. The food was alright but honestly, Bijou has better. I ordered a chocolate chip muffin and a white hot chocolate. The three stars is only for the food and drink. The muffin was on the drier side and the hot chocolate wasn't anything special. The minus two stars is for service. I ordered a white hot chocolate which is on their alternatives menu. I can't drink coffee so figured white hot chocolate would be fun since I don't see it often. After my boyfriend got his order, mine took a while. The muffin came out first which I had while waiting for the drink. When the drink came out, the server told me that my "white mocha" was ready in which I was confused. I told him it was supposed to be white hot chocolate and he said that's what it was. And that it's the same as the mocha...what? For starters, hot chocolate and mocha aren't the same. I took the drink and brought it to the counter to not make a scene but as soon as I opened the lid, I smelled the coffee. So in turn, I had to return it. Told the same guy this was mocha and not hot chocolate and that I couldn't drink coffee. He told me they didn't have white hot chocolate to which I pointed to their menu which clearly said they did. The lady who was behind the counter making drinks also gave this guy a weird look. I'm guessing she knew it was on the menu. He reluctantly took back the drink and the lady finally told him it was basically a hot chocolate but the white version. I never want to be that person to make a scene but given I really can't drink coffee, it wasn't a mistake that I could let slide. After the ordeal, I finally got the white hot chocolate to which tasted well enough. But for the entire ordeal and for staff members who don't seem to know their own menu well, I'll take the less hassle and go to bijou + the cayucos coffee co shop for their hot chocolate. read more

Charming little coffee shop tucked behind some shops in the small town of Cayucos, CA! We made a pit stop during a road trip to northern California. Originally, we had stopped to try the Brown Butter Cookie Company (also great, check out my review for this spot!) But, with those cookies you inevitably need coffee to wash down the tasty morsels! We stepped into Luna Coffee Bar which is next door and it was a great experience. It's a small, pleasant little spot with plenty of baked goods, coffee, and smoothie options. My latte was great, but I will say my friend's green tea frappe was a tad too sweet! There's also a beautiful garden and seating area in the back that they were setting up for a wedding or some sort of event. So quaint and peaceful! We own a home in Cayucos and are always on the lookout for a good breakfast place, but one that is on the cheaper side since most in our opinion take advantage of the tourists and charge too much. So, we were excited to see Luna's open and offer some breakfast selections. We stopped in and ordered two breakfast burritos, and a bear claw danish. Here is what we noticed: - We asked to have one burrito with bacon and the other one with sausage...unfortunately, they gave us two with bacon. The amount of bacon included was pretty sparse too. - We asked to have them remove the country potatoes from our burritos, which they did...but they also eliminated the bell peppers and onions which according to the menu were supposed to be inside the burrito too. - The tortilla chips that came with the burrito were pretty much out of a bag from the grocery store...more like a corn chip and with a weird kind of seasoning. - The bear claw was pretty good. - We sat in the covered outdoor patio behind the coffee shop...it was nice, but don't expect any type of view. Bottom line: Luna Coffee Bar will need to step it up in our mind if they want us to return. read more
