Never been here before and had an amazing experience. Food is simple, tasty and the staff is amazing. Mel took amazing care of us and was extremely personable. I haven't used Yelp much in the last few years but I felt l needed to today. Gave this place a go because I have been wanting good enchiladas and they are hard to find around here. I got the combo with the beef tamale and man the tamale was 5/5. The enchilada was a disappointment because they used yellow cheese inside. They really need to switch to a Monterey jack inside and I would have no complaints. The sauce was def very good and flavorful, would be so good on a wet burrito. Will be back to try more. read more

Mexican grub exactly how I like it. This is about my 5th time and they've never disappointed. Ordered online and it was on right on OK an update. During this pandemic I've tried twice to order for pickup. The first time I ordered via Yelp (but I guess it's actually Grubhub?) which includes payment. But when I arrived at the restaurant it was closed. How is this even possible? Today I ordered the taco/enchilada combination and specified "Beef". Came home and both taco and enchilada were pork. I live the food here but this kind of service is unacceptable, especially given that they are nowhere close to busy. read more

I really wanted to like this place for its great location and friendly service, but the food was so lackluster. I ordered the Chile verde, and the first problem was the portion size - eight smallish chunks of meat at the edge of the plate easily overshadowed by the large pool of bland beans and even blander rice, all of which did not justify the $18.95 price! There wasn't any verde sauce for the dry meat, which tasted like it was reheated and devoid of any spices typical of this dish. All I could do was drown everything with the red salsa that accompanies the chip basket. The setting is quite eccentric with circus tchotchkes looming over a hodgepodge of some doomed fiesta. read more

I've been to Luna loca a few times over the years. Crazily, I order takeout on cinco de Mayo, having no idea that they were throwing a huge party. I walked into a massive crowd spilling into the parking lot, with a band, margs, etc. it was barely 6 pm and danville's finest we're already several drinks in. I was holding my 9 month old, trying to navigate the situation which included several women assuming that my baby was free for the grabbing. After a few minutes, I was able to speak with the hostess and manager who went to look for my food. Ten minutes I still hadn't seen anything, but he returned, and explained that he couldn't find my order (unclear why because I was definitely charged by doordash). He then said he'd make it anyway and wrote it down. I exited to get some breathing room and we made our way back in a few minutes later to find him searching for me with my food. It was so incredible to see such customer service on a night when it was so crazy busy. I'm not sure if the manager's name but I wanted to say thank you! My boyfriend and I are on a mexican food kick and we've been trying out different mexican restaurants in the east bay area every Friday for a couple of weeks now. We decided to try this place because it is close to my work, but we just were not impressed. The overall vibe of the establishment was cute, I loved the lights and decor. The margarita was okay, but I've definitely had better. I got tacos a la carte and they were just really soggy and REALLY salty. My boyfriend got the carne asada plate and though he asked for the meat to be medium rare, it was basically still bleeding - to the point where we weren't sure if he should eat it. The chips and salsa were honestly the best part of the meal, those were really good! Overall, it was just okay. Not bad, but probably won't be back. read more

I had order taquitos for my Christmas party from luna loca. We order 50 pieces for $54. Told them the pick up time but when I got to the restaurant the order was not ready..I had to wait another 10 minutes. But when I opened the order at the party the taquitos size was half of the size of regular taquitos. So basically they cut regular taquitos into half and that order is not worth the $54. Please do not order from their catering menu ..it is a rip off. read more

This was the most expensive Mexican food I have ever eaten. The fish taco was a heavily battered, mushy tilapia wrapped in a small tortilla. The Chile Relleno was also heavily battered and tasteless. Although the plates are large, the portions are actually small because they spread the beans and rice out to fill out the plate making it appear like a large portion. A Chicken Burrito will cost you about $14, and it isn't anything special. It's an overpriced Mexican sports bar located in Danville. I will never go to this place again. Oh yeah, they have lots of TV's. I suppose it might be a good place to go and watch sports while having a drink during their happy hour, I just wouldn't order any food. Hit up your local taco truck instead and buy a better quality burrito for about $6. I should have just gone to my favorite Mexican joint in Lafayette; Casa Gourmet Burritos. read more

Question: How is this place open in such a great location in Danville?? Answer: Who knows! I cannot believe this place still continues to occupy this prime piece of property. It's not a great Mexican restaurant and not a great restaurant in general. I got to break this review down into the pros and cons: PROS - Location: It's a corner spot and located in The Livery in downtown Danville. It's also close to the freeway. CONS - Food: Lacks taste and flavor. Very American-ized food and not good. - Service: Often left waiting at the host station for a while. Waiters are so-so. - Atmosphere: Crammed and feels like a child's playground. Very loud and busy with old tables. If you want good Mexican I suggest Alberto's in downtown Pleasanton. read more

2 1/2 stars on Yelp...big red flag. Normally I would never entertain the thought of eating at a place with so many negative reviews, but my folks had a Travelzoo voucher & invited me to dinner. I'm not one to pass up a free meal, so the hubby & I met them for dinner last Monday night. I always wonder about a place with lots of gimmicks. Monday was "Buy one combo meal, get one for $1.99" night. There were lots of white haired folks taking advantage of the nightly special. That should have been another red flag there, but we were committed to using the voucher so we sat down. The covered patio looks like it might be a nice place to have your meal but it's stinky out there. I thought the smell resembled pee. Red flag #3. For the record, no one else in my party thought it smelled like pee, so we stayed put & I tried to ignore it. I searched the menu for a list of drinks but couldn't find it. Then I searched for a drink menu but they didn't have one. Huh? So you have to guess at what drinks they offer or bother your server to list off every beer, soda, margarita, or non-alcoholic drink. I (again) went against my fellow Yelpers recommendations & ordered a margarita. I just got the house margarita since our server didn't really want to list them all to me anyway. Not that I blame her. This was the clearest margarita I have ever seen. It did taste like tequila, but it was watery & made with that kool-aid like green mix. On top was a slight squeeze of lime which gave me about 5 pieces of pulp. I quickly discouraged anyone else at the table from ordering a margarita. Oh and the price? Who knows since there was no drink menu. The food menu is pretty extensive & they have some interesting choices, but what really shocked me were the prices. How can they charge $11 for one measly taco + rice & beans? $16 for chile verde? $21 for a "very spicy" steak picado (wasn't really spicy, just very paprika-y). Forget the steak & seafood items...$22-$25. I have never seen Mexican food prices so high. I ordered the chile verde. The pork was nice & tender but I wasn't too fond of the verde sauce. The rice & beans were flavorless. They definitely need to kick up the spices in their food. Maybe they do cater to the white haired crowd? The decor is very tired & worn. The paint on the chairs is peeling. The place was pretty crowded for a Monday & I couldn't figure out why. People really like bland Mexican food that much? Or they don't care that it's bland, they just want their second meal for $1.99? I really can't figure out how this place is still in business after all these years. read more

If you are looking for an expensive Mexican dinner without any flavor, then this is your place. 20+$ for a seafood salad?! Can anyone say recession? How about a tasteless chicken burrito for $15? If you are in the mood for Mexican, go to your local grocery store, pick up some pre-made margarita mix and the hit Taco Bell for some authentic flavors! Because if you choose Luna Loca over Jose Cuervo and Taco Bell, the only thing you will taste is regret. Just a follow up on Jake J and his insane comment about being asked to not come back to their restaurant. If you can tell me what I supposedly did to be asked not to come back, then please share with everyone. His comment is 100% NOT true. We were a member of the party of 8 that got limeades instead of margaritas last weekend - one of us posted an initial review. I had intended on writing them up after such a poor experience on Sunday but got distracted. I would have left it alone except the response from La Luna Loca was so uncalled for. We ordered a pitcher of margarita along with a bunch of other drinks. The margarita was almost clear green. We haven't seen a margarita look like that before but we still tasted it and noted there was no alcohol in the drink. I may not know the difference between a house tequila and a topnotch one but I know when a margarita has no alcohol. We said so to the waitress who politely tasted it and offered a taste to the bartender as proof - which she did not take but instead went on the defense that she filled up the pitcher with "margarita". Maybe - but she forgot the alcohol. They offered two shots of tequila, with a rather snide comment that was all we were getting. Two shots of tequila, with an attitude, does not make up for a pitcher of non-alcoholic margarita. Most restaurants would have chalked this up to a loss and either offer a replacement or another drink in its place rather than continue arguing with the customers. The manager (our mistake, if he wasn't the owner but that still does not excuse his behavior), should have found some way to make amends, or certainly a more reasonable approach. Rather he continues the argument with us and that we bought house margaritas and that's how they come. We commented that they must not want our future business and won't be coming back and that's when he said - it is what it is (paraphrased as it is really not worth repeating). So, to respond to directly to the LUNA LOCA post, we weren't asking for more alcohol than what we were entitled to. The $25 for a pitcher of limeade plus 2 shots is not a reasonable price. Perhaps this recession has not affected La Luna Loca. One thing is certain - the eight of us will not be supporting La Luna Loca's business and our friends will be advised of how they treat their customers. There are many other places to spend our drinking dollars in with better margaritas and better service. read more

I came here on Tuesday night for dinner with coworkers. The place had a manageable crowd. Not overly packed. The tortilla chips they serve are good, and the sauces are spectacular. The fish tacos were popular with many in our group. I chose the seafood burrito: a mixture of crab (not imitation) and shrimp (like two jumbo shrimp) in a flour tortilla topped with cheese. I loved it! I even liked the rice and black beans offered as sides. Good evening overall. I went back there on Thursday. It was happy hour from 3PM to 6 PM. The place was PACKED. A whole bunch of Danville 30 and 40-somethings sitting around drinking beer, wine, and margaritas. The drinks are cheaper during happy hour and you get tacos (beef or chicken) for a dollar. A DOLLAR! So after a margarita too many, some tacos, a good time with friends, a cut pinkie finger...ohhhh, did I not mention the finger? I was having such a good time I broke a glass and cut my finger! I know first-aid so it was no big deal. I did find it odd that the waitress who serviced our table was nowhere to be found during this whole thing. By the time she showed up, I had already taken care of it. No worries, when she did arrive she was very helpful. Crap happens, right? I will return. read more

When I worked doubles at a restaurant across the parking lot, I would set in for a margie. They had a super nice bartender, that made some prety killer margies. The perfect blend of swwet vs sour and booze. I had never eaten here. Until yesterday. Which didn't start off to well. I decided I was starving, and needed something, pronto, even though I only had minutes, as i was headed to a funeral. So I ducked in here. It was early 11:30ish. There might have been 2 other tables in the whole place. I waited and waited and waited. Not a good sign. I waited long enough to know what I want and I usually take a long time in that! Finally, the waiter comes to take my order. Ok fine. I get my tea right away, and my food comes faster than the waiter did to first approach me. And here is where strike 2 comes in... The food... The beans, whole, were meh. The rice- worse! The taco, good. Tender lean chunks of beef Yellow cheese- not Mexican! Tamale was meh. But if you use yellow cheese, blah beans and bad rice That just doesn't crack it for $10.75! Whoa, even if it is Danville. *Note- I so wish Danville would get over it's self! It's always difficult to throw some business under the buss but here goes especially when you are a recuurent visitor. The food is very bland. Very tasteless. The service is completely mediocre. The drinks are very DOABLE The reason we all keep coming back is bc it's a easy meeting spot to get a seat for 6-10 of us when we want to watch the football game. Translation: all of us are lazy and don't want to go anywhere decent to reserve a spot so we all end up here bc this place is usually plan c plan d or plan e. This gets an average 3 star yelp from this visitor. I keep thinking of they fixed a few things this place would be a frilking gold mine. It's big. Easy parking. Large patio. Large bar. I came here this past weekend reluctantly. An old childhood friend of mine wanted to come here since it was of our families favorite spot as a kid growing up in the area. The food has really gone down hill.....plus it's totally overpriced for what you get. This time around I went for the veggie fajitas. I had tried their chicken fajitas a few years back and did not like them that much but figured you can't go wrong with some sizzling veggies. Ugh....disgusting! Flavorless, bland and boring is how I would have summed up my dinner. I think the tortillas are the only good thing about my meal. The pinto beans and rice also flavorless, bland and boring...a total snooze fest of a meal! My Diet Coke even tasted weird. Again, why do I keep torturing myself by coming here!? As my wife put it "that was the worst Mexican I can remember". We were excited -- we've lived in Danville for about 16 years, but have kids that are not big fans of Mexican food. One of them was out of town, and my wife and I had a craving. Noticed reasonably good reviews for El Nido -- off we go to the Livery. First mistake - Luna Loca is not El Nido. Both are on the Livery, on opposite sides, and I drove to the wrong one, thinking they were the same. Second mistake - ordered Cadillac Margaritas, since the reviews in Yelp for El Nido Margaritas were good. For Luna Loca, they were horrible. Neither of us finished them (and I'd normally order a couple). Bad start. Third mistake - wife ordered Fish Tacos.... which were basically Fish sticks in a tortilla with some marinated cabbage (that was taken out of some jar some where -- and was slimey). Bad experience. My son ordered Taco and Tamale, which was tolerable. My Chili Colorado was tolerable as well - not great. But the overall experience sucked. We were joking that we needed to dine and dash, especially when we realized that we were at the wrong restaurant - but we stuck it out and had a bad experience. It won't happen again. On the plus side, they had a bagillian TV's attached to the walls, and we could watch every sporting event known to man. And the wait staff was nice. Didn't make up for everything else. read more

We love Luna Loca its out favorite Mexican food place in the area. The fajitas are amazing the sauce could be drank with a straw, (we joke about doing this regularly). The Margaritas are very good they are a little on the expensive side but I've paid $10 for Margs elsewhere and these are worth the price. We love the fresh chips and salsa. My favorite is the enchiladas with extra fresh pico on top. I have never had a bad meal here. We will continue here for years to come. read more

I came here at lunch time with some friends to celebrate a birthday party. In general the food is typical mexican fare that I'd consider better than the normal Chevy's, El Torito and La Salsa. The menu has a good choice of food to select from. The group I sat with had a mix of lunch food -- enchiladas, tacos, appetizer plates, chile relleno. The portions we had were comparable with the price charged. I've had better and I've had worse at other places. It just depends on what you order really. Make sure to have the chips and the 2 salsas (green and red). What made it nice was it was a somewhat warm day and several of us sat outside in the open (but covered) outside area where they have ceiling fans going. The place is somewhat shaded by the matured trees and is surrounded by several shopping stores. Parking was plentiful at the time we came (about 1130ish on a Friday). I'm on the board of the East Bay Chapter of IFMA. Last year we started holding our monthly chapter business meetings at Luna Loca and I have to say the staff has been fantastic in supporting us. They always set us up in an area where we won't be bothered (or bother others who don't want to hear our discussions) and the service is just terrific. The food is standard home-style Mexican fare, and always tastes fresh and yummy. When we took a vote to see if we wanted to continue to host our meetings at Luna Loca the response was a unanimous YES! read more

First, this place is hard to find, unless you are from the area. In the darken corner of the shopping plazas of Danville, we find the restaurant. Arriving a half an hour early then the birthday boy and his wife, we took advantage of their overly priced and too sweet house margaritas at the bar. Their vodka and tonic was decent, but not memorable. I agree at least their chips and salsa(s) were good. Their "small, very small", as described by our server, ceviche appetizer was priced at $10.95 and still shared by two people who already were on on basket two of the chips and salsa. The inside joke that developed among our side of the table was the obvious up sell by our server. Not subtly delivered our table paid for three $3.95 guacamole which was inquired roughly 3x by our server who suggested,minus its costing, grace our table with. I guess "no, thank you" is like saying, "pardon, please repeat yourself until we are worn down to buy your sides" . With the bill finally arriving when it looks as though the entire restaurant patrons had already left, I was just happy to leave. Come here if you want to spend $$$ for American-styled Mexican food, if not then I suggest finding a similar restaurant that offers authenticity, quality and quantity for at least $12 and under. read more

I had started the night here on 2/23/13 for a friends birthday, and this will be my first and last time I set foot in this restaurant. The night started with a few of us ordering chavelas in which the waiter who seemed to be over his head had mentioned "yes we have them"... Well a chavela is not the same as a cerveza! (Note: when you don't know what something is just ask) So after bringing us regular luke warm beers the waiter did not bother to ask if we would like exchange them for something different. But anyways... All our food had been bland. Everyone agreed that their food had no flavor. Overall I and my friends will not set foot in this restaurant again. Taco Bell is more authentic with more flavors in their food than this place! And as everyone knows Taco bell is the least of authentic! read more

I've been here twice now, and have had an overall good experience each time. This is even one of the few places my boyfriend has been somewhere without me and wants to take me there, you know he was impressed. This is a cute, fun, friendly Mexican restaurant with a bar. It's pretty large inside with a few adjoining rooms. Service has been good both times, friendliness is a maybe/maybe not. Chips come with two kinds of salsa (red and green). The combination appetizer that included nachos, taquitos and ceviche is tasty. On the first visit, we each got a one-combo meal; mine was a fish taco with rice and beans that was 100x better than the other fish taco I had in this shopping center (at El Nido). The black beans were really delish too, it was almost like a black bean chili taste, but without the chili. The rice was a little dry the next day with leftovers, but good the first time around. The second visit I got the Luna Local Special, which comes with two crab-filled enchiladas, rice and beans. It was tasty. The funniest thing about the night is some disgrunted older couple who rudely asked this group of 20-somethings to quiet down. The whole section got quiet just to hear their conversation. They were kinda loud, I guess, but I don't think it was disturbing anyone else. The place is called Luna LOCA, after all. Some of their prices are higher than your typical Mexican joint, but other things are very comparable in price (our one-item meals were each $9.95; my "special" was $20). Terrible food . Ordered a burrito that had the most weir stuff inside. It was like mole with beef , and beans . If your are looking for Mexican food , this is not it !!!! No Mexican puts cheddar in top of a burrito . It also came with bean and rice in the side . I never felt so robbed before until I paid 16 dollars for the worst burrito ever . I did not eat it . I took a bite , and i knew right away that I did not like it at all . Food was ok....ordered carnitas salad. The salad was mushy. My husband ordered a burrito and said it was the most plain burrito he had ever had. It took about 15 min to get any drinks including water. On the bright side the margaritas were pretty tasty and the salsa and chips were good.
