Got takeout from Luna Pizza. Pre-ordered and it was ready when I arrived. It was about dinner time and a few tables were seated. Food was still warm when I arrived home. Calamari was crispy and not overly salty. Penne was flavorful and tasty. Liked that the chicken had a blackened taste. We came Thursday for a quick bite for dinner before evening festivities. Although I ordered something that probably wouldn't be as good (fish and chips in this case), I still had optimism that it would be at least acceptable. I was disappointed to say the least: it was effectively three bigger fish fingers with a small offering of soggy fries for $22 before tax and tip. I sent the food back and afterwards ordered a couple of slices. Normally that would be the end of discussion, but the manager still had the gall to charge us for the fish and chips despite not even eating a full fish finger and having only 2-3 fries. I would not recommend giving this place as much business because of their audacity and greed. read more

Walking in here, I was not expecting much, based on the appearance of the food, and the prices. Instead, I was wrong. Not way wrong, but wrong enough to change how I feel about Luna Pizza. I will rank each slice I had from worst to best, as you save the best for last. Lasagna: Clever in name, but in concept, not so much. The globbed on cheese does not work here, unlike Sal and Carmine's, or Louie and Ernie's, no creamy texture, it feels and tastes pasted on. The ground beef is delicious, but the heavy cheese, I wish was not there. As a result, this slice gets killed by its own sword by being the very thing it should not be, an overly rich and cheesy slice. For those with sensitive stomachs, you might want to pass on this one. Grandma Vodka: I was expecting a dry slab with sauce, and it certainly was not. The sauce runs deep and it is rich (sensing a theme here), and the crust is the perfect crisp to chew ratio. Eat this slow if you want to really enjoy it, otherwise it will come back later. Cheese slice: Unconventional in appearance, the "racing stripe" is not meant for New York style slices, but it works. Again with the rich cheese. This was a cheesy slice that threatens to undermine the whole experience. It is salvaged by a beautiful red tomato sauce that makes it pleasant to eat, balancing out the sharpness that this cheese brings out. Something tells me the cheese here is homemade, which if true, I applaud. -- At the end of the day, I have to say that this surprised me in more ways than one. Is it worth the $4/$4.50 a slice? Definitely not. However, the originality, the nice staff, the product, all bring out something to go to Chatham Square (Chinatown) and try, but be ready for a brisk walk on the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridge when you are done. read more

Luna Pizza is a pizzeria/ restaurant and has always been my go to when I am looking for something quick to eat. The Pizza and Italian dishes are outstanding and excellent pasta and is homemade! The seafood is terrific too. Mary and her staff always try to make you feel at home and provide a warm atmosphere and great service! My favorite dishes are the Baked Ziti, Penne Alla Vodka and the Lasagna. The staff are warm and the food is fresh and served at grandma'a portions at Sunday dinner. The menu is simple and done well. I made 2 mistakes today: First: I came to this pizza place. Decent yelp reviews, but cant be sure people being honest. It was mad packed, so perhaps...? Second: Had the chicken roll (this is where the real review begins). Didnt see any on display, but saw on menu. Guy opens fridge and pulls one out, wrapped in Saran wrap - when did you make this "yesterday," he replied. A star for his honesty, but perhaps he should have lied AND perhaps I shouldnt have taken it. But your boy was hangry (thats right, spelled it with an 'A'). I stepped away to get a diet coke from the fridge (this is a prerequisite), placed it on my tray, and maybe a minute later i saw him throw the roll in the oven...thats odd, i thought to myself (more on this later). Maybe a minute and a half or two go by, he pulls it out and puts it on my plate. "You sure thats heated through?" I asked, looking at this monstrosity of a roll - that boi was thick like your lady's thighs "Yup," he replied Ok i thought, maybe these pizza ovens have some type of magical heat, or maybe he made some cuts in it to let the heat in...nope! I then asked for him to cut it in half for me...I mean it was big, like a box of 12x12 tiles you pick up at Home Depot (for the handymen out there). I paid $11 amd quickly went to my seat. Tried to but couldnt pick up even 1/2 of it to dip in my sauce - just too bulky and fragile. had to use knife and fork - first bite, it was Hot, through and through! amazing, but how did he do it. I took two more bites, and it became more and more obvious things werent so fresh, especially the chicken. it became progressively more dry, to the point that i ran out of my 20 oz diet coke! we talking arizona desert dry...then it hit me. The guy nuked it for 2 min before throwing it in oven to crisp outside...very clever. needless to say, i coudnt even finish half before calling it quits - it was that inedible. I wouldnt be surprised if it was older than 1 day...maybe 2 or 3? perhaps that guy did lie to me! my second mistake was a costly one, and time will tell exactly how much i wouldnt come back here, ever. if a pizza place cant do a chicken roll right, thats just plain crazy. my search to find a good place to eat in chinatown continues, much like David Caradine in Kung Fu (was he even looking for something?) read more

This place by far has the best pizza in manhattan. I eat here on a weekly basis and see the same regulars every visit. They use fresh authentic Italian ingredients making it stand out way above the typical pizza place. Each time I come I make an effort to try a new dish on the menu and thus far I have not been let down. I pretty much have tried the whole menu and everything is delicious. I come from an Italian family so I know good Italian food and you will find it at Luna Pizza. I don't often eat seafood out as I have had bad experiences over the years but the seafood here is the best and I could tell it's top quality along with everything they make. My favorites are definitely the fried calamari, fried shrimp, baked clams, veal parmigiana, and penne with meat sauce. As for the pizza, I often crave the pepperoni slice and I have dreams of their sausage and broccoli rabe slice. You cannot get a slice like that anywhere else. Their homemade sangria is also a must. They do not skimp on ingredients either. Their chicken rolls are overflowing with breaded chicken and fresh mozzarella and their tomato sauce is perfect with every bite. Their portion sizes are huge and I find myself taking leftovers home. What I like best is that you see the same regulars here week after week. I have even met many people that eat here on a daily basis and the staff treats you like family. There is nothing better than to be treated like friends/family at a good restaurant. I'm not gonna lie, I was not excited about sitting down for pizza at this spot. You walk in it's a bit dated. The staff is super friendly and the slices looked okay. We sat down and again the staff was super awesome. We got the fried calamari which was awesome. It was cooked in fresh oil and was really good. Next came the pizza. This was probably the best pizza I've had outside of Brooklyn. I must admit I am a bit of a pizza snob. My general opinion of pizza businesses outside of Brooklyn, are people that can't hack it in the pizza capital of the world ... Brooklyn. That being said, this pizza was awesome.
