Great food and fabulous service. As a new customer, we turned to Sean our sever, for suggestions. It was a toss-up between a regular menu item or a special. Everything from the side Caesar salad, to the yummy bread and after dinner drinks and pastries was authentic Italian. My chicken parmigiana was very lightly breaded with a tasty marinara - I added a side of angel hair with meat sauce. A hearty serving. My husband had a decent-sized bowl of rigatoni bolognese that he enjoyed so much, I had to stop him from licking the bowl! We didn't get to try the pizza--that's our next trip. Thank you Valentina for a wonderful dinner in a great environment. We'll see you soon. An interesting note about the environment: With the location inside the District across from the AMC theaters, it is a causal dining spot. However, there are cloth table clothes and napkins - contradicts the casualness. It can be a romantic place as well. I wonder if they are seeking an identity? Either way - Worth your time! Decided to eat here on a whim after watching a movie, and was really amazed at the food. This is authentic Italian cooking. I had the seafood spaghetti and it was really fresh seafood, which makes a big difference. They also gave us a small appetizer and sweet treat at no charge, and there was a guitarist serenading us! Found this place on yelp and went because of the great reviews. This food and service were both amazing. They gave us so much free food for an appetizer it really is a true Italian restaurant. I was full before my meal even came out! I am obsessed with vodka penne and this place has one of the best I've had. Service was good and always on top of things and gave great recommendations. AH-MAZING!! Great, intimate Italian gem in the heart of OC. Not your typical fancy, yet bland, and over-priced Italian fine dining. This place was DEE-LISH!! We had Caesar salad, Salmon Penne in red vodka sauce, and the Rigatoni w/ meatballs & wine. Absolutely amazingly delicious and very well reasonably priced for the portion sizes. The flavors are exactly what you would expect from an Italian restaurant with that home-cooked flavor!! We will definitely be going back for more!! Service was great-Jordano was straight from Rome and took great care of us, almost thought we were in Italy! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

We ate here tonight, and the service was just plain awful!! I was a fan of the atmosphere before and wanted to share that experience with my friends & co-workers, but I truly regret the decision. The waiter was unwilling to serve/help us the whole time we were there- and the hostess was rude and unfriendly. We would have ordered A LOT more tonight if the service was different. The staff has NO sense of appreciation for their customers, the waiter never checked on us unless we asked him to, and the hostess had the nerve to tell our party to leave soon (when we were waiting for our checks the whole time). I hope that their management improves since I wouldn't be surprised if they go out of business- just like their HB location. This will be the last time that I will ever dine at Luna Rossa. read more

This place surprised the wife and I. We were hungry after watching Thor and decided to check this place out. So glad we did! Great ambiance, awesome food, excellent service and even some free food :) we had the Tortellini di Pollo and Margherita pizza, both were really good. We also ordered the mini desserts and it was just the right amount to share a bite each. Giordano was our waiter and he was great. So helpful and he brought us food on the housd too. I must admit that I was impressed when the owner of this restaurant reached out to me after reading my review of my first visit so I decided to give Luna Rossa another chance. I was sure it would be better this time and honestly, I really really wanted it to be better ...and it was about half a star better but I'll be nice and round up to 3 stars. I called and made a dinner reservation for 2 at a table inside (not on the patio) the day we intended to dine there. Just a few minutes later, I got a call back from the restaurant confirming that I wanted a reservation for their Tustin location as they were having some issue with the phones that was causing a mix up. I liked the thoroughness. I was convinced it would be better now. However, upon walking into the restaurant and interacting with the hostess I started to get really nervous. She obviously wasn't listening when I told her about our reservation because she tried to bring us outside so I spoke up and said "I specifically requested a table inside" and named the gentleman I spoke with on the phone. I didn't think there would be an issue as it was early and most of the tables were free but she made a face, started to argue with me and then thought better of it and told us to go wait at the front and then returned a few seconds later and led us not to one of the many small tables that were open, but a giant booth that would accommodate 6 adults. It was awkward but I didn't feel like making a fuss so I simply sat down and told her that the owner had told me to ask for her when I got there. Again, the hostess wasn't listening because the owner never showed up. My boyfriend and I waited at our giant table for about 10 minutes before anyone even brought us water. When the waiter arrived he was clearly annoyed we'd been put at such a big table and I said we'd be happy to move and then he disappeared again for 5 minutes and then said we could stay where we were. We finally were able to order some wine and our meals and a while later the waiter brought a small complimentary anti-pasta plate over which was nice but too little too late, especially since no one even acknowledged how poor the service had been until that point. Luckily, the service got much better from there on out but the food was just kind of blah. My boyfriend tried the pizza this time and said it wasn't very good and I had the mushroom raviolis which were very bland and honestly tasted like something out of the freezer section at the grocery store. Although we didn't like our entrees, we decided to get dessert anyways - my boyfriend got the spumoni which we both thought was very good but my creme brulee was average. The restaurant also brought us some complimentary prosecco with our desserts which was nice. Honestly though I'd rather forgo the free stuff in favor of great food & service. After the movies we walked to the new Luna Rossa at the district and we could not resist the good smell... We shared calamari fritti, they were cooked perfectly and the marinara was very flavorful. My husband had the Lasagna (since I never make it at home) he said it was great and tasted like my grandma's lasagna. I had the Casertana pizza with fresh Buffalo mozzarella and basil, the this crusted pizza was delicious! Perfect place to dine in the patio and they were very kid friendly. The service was not perfect, but it is normal for a brand new restaurant, it takes a while to find the right employees.Will be back. read more

I would like to provide a quick update on my review, just regarding the customer service aspect. I received a call from Valentina from the Huntington Beach location and she was extremely helpful, and very responsive. She looked into the issue immediately and made sure that it was fixed. She even invited us back to dine at Luna Rossa again, in hopes that we will have a better second experience. Love this place! The food, atmosphere and service are amazing. If you go on friday or saturday nights they have great live music (think sinatra) which sets the moods. The outdoor dining area is great with plenty of heaters even in the wintertime. If you go with a group I highly recommend getting a pizza for an appetizer which they make in their own authentic brick pizza oven. Good luck deciding on a main dish because the menu is reasonably priced and full of Italian favorites. The inside bar has great tv's so don't be scared to go alone. The chef even comes around to each table to check on your meal. I will be back!!! read more

Perfect date night, great live music on the patio and excellent food. Mozzarella Caprese was perfect, Prosciutto was fresh and yummy, Her Spaghetti and Meatballs were good and my bone-in steak was large, juicy and amazing. Waiter was very nice and acted like we were old friends. If we didn't have tickets to movie we would have stayed and enjoyed the ambience all night. Most other places in Irvine are tough to get into on a Friday but this was immediate seating. If you don't love this place, you have no heart. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner there before catching "Captain Phillips" at the AMC next door. We ordered an eggplant appetizer and amazingly they bought out 2 more appetizers for us to try gratis. One was a braised pork polenta and the other was a antipasto sampler. All were delicious. They also bought out an olive pate to use with the bread. For our entrees I had the seafood risotto while the wife had tortellini with Alfredo sauce. I honestly think it was the best cream sauce I've ever tasted. We decided to order the strawberry tiramisu to go to eat in the theater, and while they were packing it up they bought out some sugar pastries and 2 glasses of dessert wine. The freebies were getting pretty ridiculous at this point so we decided not to use our 20% off coupon and pay full price. Lol. Great meal and wonderful service. We finished with plenty of time to catch the movie to spare. Btw the Italian chef came by twice to check up on the food. read more

Luna Rossa (Tustin, CA.) is far and away our favorite Italian restaurant in Orange County. My wife and I have been thoroughly satisfied every time we have dined there. We usually sit outside by the fire place or next to a space heater when we dine there. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. The waiters (some of whom are from Italy) seem to go out of their way to please customers. The food is delicious (chicken marsala, salmon, sea food and veal dishes are outstanding). Their desserts are scrumptious (strawberry tiramisu and chocolate mousse cake are two of our favorites). They have a great male vocalist who sings our favorite songs (Elvis, Sinatra, Beatles, Nat King Cole, Johnny Cash, etc. etc.) and is always willing to oblige. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to enjoy a tasty meal at a reasonable price and amidst a good surrounding. read more

Despite the fact that the hostess forgot about us waiting for a table, this place was really great. The bad.... was being told it would be a 5 minute wait, which actually turned into 40 minutes, because the hostess forgot that we were waiting at the bar (which she brought us to) and seated other people that came in after us. The waiters and the bartender were so nice and very apologetic, it was hard to be mad at the situation. They made our first time experience here enjoyable. The inside of the restaurant is on the small side, but the outdoor patio is more spacious. Will definitely sit out there next time when it warms up. Also, it's really loud inside the restaurant. At times it was hard to hear our waiter and my husband talk. I loved all the variety of dishes to choose from and they have an extensive wine list! The bread they brought out was warm & very good...I liked it a lot. I got the fettuccine Alfredo, which was made with fresh pasta and my husband got the scampi risotto. They both were good size portions and tasty as well. We also shared a Caesar salad. I didn't like the salad as much, it hardly had any dressing on it and we were charged $2.00 to share it! But again, they both were big salad portions. We shared the tiramisu and it was some of the best, if not the best tiramisu!! Our waiter gave us 2 complimentary shots of moscato, a complimentary sweet treat and a 20% VIP discount card that we keep using through June. We also got serenaded, TWICE, by a guitarist. Pretty cool! I want to return and try a few other pasta dishes that looked good or try their pizzas next time, but it won't be too often....it's just a bit more on the pricey side for our weekend dinners out. read more

my meal at luna rossa is definitely 2-star because in fact "meh. i've experienced better." came in on a sunday evening and it was nice that they had some live music on the patio but me and justin b. opted to sit inside in the air conditioning haha. place wasnt crowded but we werent seated right away b/c they dont really have anyone standing at the entrance/hostess station. we had to walk inside the restaurant first and basically flagged down a server so we could get seated. in fact during our meal, i saw 2 parties walk in and walk right back out since there was no actual hostess to greet them or seat them. may want to think about having a permanent hostess there so you wont lose more business in an already empty restaurant haha. throughout the night, service was spotty at best. started out great with even the chef and manager coming up to greet us but got progressively worse as our meal went on. got our food in a timely manner, but getting a box for leftovers and paying the check was quite painful. lots of wait time when we just wanted to get out of there haha the food itself was ok. i ordered the chicken parmigiana ($18) and it was a generous portion size. it was served with penne pasta and the marinara sauce was pretty good. probably better than I could have cooked at home but it wasnt spectacular either haha. the convenience factor is there for me since its close to home but i'd probably be tempted to drive out to newport and eat really good italian food at Mama D's haha read more

Like the first review, we went in with our 30% to try the new place. First thought nice looking place. Our waiter was great , the food however was ok. First we never got bread, the waiter said they would bring it out. After awhile ,the waiter got it. I ordered caprese salad and the waiter came back to tell me they ran out of Mozzarella. Hmm, been open for 5 days and you run out of Mozzarella? My husband got the Lasagna, said it was good. Son ordered Spaghetti with Meatballs. The meatballs were tasty, the marinara could use more flavor.I ordered Risotto with mushrooms and it was not cooked right. Rice was still very hard. I have had risotto better at other places. Bottom line, do not think we will be going back. This is their 5th place, they should have their act together! read more
