The online menu did not match the menu in the restaurant. We were told the seafood was fresh... however there were grouper "fingers" available but not a grouper sandwich as advertised on the website. We decided to leave and go somewhere else and we're charged $8.00 and change for 2 soft drinks, plus a 20% charge for gratuity... Sheesh... most respectable establishments would not have charged someone for the soft drinks and encouraged us to come back and try a lunch menu or brunch or something like that... instead this place just ensured that we will not recommend or come back.... LunaSea hosted a 80+ person event for us this weekend on their back deck and it was a huge success! Everyone in attendance was really stoked with the beautiful two level layout which could have easily handled 2X the number of people. Colleen, the owner, catered the food, and we had a private bar service. Both the food and the service were excellent and certainly made it a very special event! There's also room for a band or DJ and a dance floor. They had 4-5 cornhole sets out for us and everyone had a blast. A great afternoon! read more

This fish we speak of, is crunchy on the outside, the first bite was okay..I'm waiting for my mouth to water which hasn't yet like my first experience but the second bite though getting into the middle bite though, the crunch mixed with a soft flavorful saucy mouthful was gasmicatic. Also had a second taster and they're not fond of fish tacos of their fishy scents but they approved and murdered an already dead fish without hesitation. Oysters had no complaints and not really a fan of steak fries but they were crunchy which made it enjoyable. About an hr later, I'm typing without auto correct so I guess the skinny Margarita wasn't a slow hitter but I'd probably try one of the other flavors in the future. I remember the first time it had salt on the rim and maybe a red coloring with an umbrella heh. Wasn't as sweet at that time but I'm curious if that'll also be the same punch next time. My boyfriend and I have been eyeing this place for the past year. We live in Hampton so a trip to VA beach is a hike for us. We finally made it out there! The feel is nice I love the decor . You can tell they're used to regular and not necessarily 1st timers. The food was ok. Proportions were small . The calamari was laughable. The oyster Rockefeller had a really mushy texture that I was not used to. Maybe too much spinach? It tasted good but the texture left me not wanting to finish the dish. The pork tacos were good though the black beans were too soupy in my opinion. seems like it came out of a can. My boyfriend had the steak and shrimp fajitas. It looked good but again the proportions were much too small. Our first set of drinks tasted like straight juice. The second we're very strong but all were tasty. The best part (the reason we came) was for the awesome outdoor area. We thought we'd be able to eat out there but apparently it's a club . But tonight was a clear exception. We were seated by a nice gentleman & handed menus right off the bat. Our waitress was nice to start off with & offered suggestions to replace drink orders we made that ingredients were absent for. We ordered the crab dip & waited a few minutes for our 4 drinks.... ...one of which had alcohol. As a past bartender, this was very odd, considering I'd ordered a double. No biggie, mistakes are made. We signaled down a waitress & let her know & she explained to me that alcohol "gets diluted by ice".... we were also immediately treated poorly for the complaint & our service changed entirely in the next 10 minutes we waited for our waitress to come back. When she returned, she apologized for only putting one shot in my drink & then gave me real attitude when I asked for our app to go. Then charged us full price for the 3 drinks we didn't drink!!! After they literally cut us off every time we tried to speak & explain/chat about what happened. AWFUL SERVICE! Appalled. Extremely upset that a place I've been a patron at annually for YEARS was so not themselves this evening. Truly disappointing & I will be thinking twice about returning. I threw my family in the car and we drove from hampton to the water front to hear Derek Moore play some reggae at Lunasea for brunch on a Sunday morning. We brought along my mother in law, who is Jamaican, do that she could hear Derek play. She was instantly captivated by his sound the minute that she heard him play. BONUS! This place is huge. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We stayed indoors and sat just several feet away from the brunch time talent. I ordered a monte Cristo. It was okay. It was suppose to come with raspberry preserves/jelly. What I got was regular grape jelly. That was disappointing. I always compare a monte cristo to the one they use to serve at bennigans. This sandwich was far from it, but not bad. I also got a nice margarita on the rocks to go with my lunch. They have a pretty decent looking menu. Between Atlantic and Pacific and so they are a very short walk from the actual boardwalk. And because of that proximity to the sea, perhaps that's why this mostly bar but partly restaurant has a focus on seafood and frozen drinks. Cornhole was going on outside while I enjoyed my meal. So I started with chips and salsa which was served with a medium sized bowl of salsa and a huge basket of chips. I knew on the inside that it wasn't free but perhaps this should be a little clearer. $4. No beer specials on this weekday night, just wine and frozen drink specials. $4 for a bottle of Coors Light is a bit much, doncha think? I had the tuna steak sandwich, which was blackened and quite tasty. A food thick piece of fish, quite meaty. The sandwich held together nicely. Had brunch today and it was delicious! Husband had chicken and waffles and he devoured it quickly! I had the country fried steak with sausage gravy! I have never had it with sausage gravy, so that was a treat! Intial bite had me dancing in my seat, as I got more into it, it became a little salty, but I still enjoyed. My family and I tried Lunasea this week for their Wednesday night Steak special. We were so impressed with the place, the food and the service. Wow! This turned out to be perhaps the best steak deal I've seen in years. The steak itself was a 10+ oz. ribeye, thick and juicy, perfectly cooked with deep fried onion ribbons on top, plus a generous portion of crispy fries and a very nice garden salad, all for $15! I ordered a bottle of red zin (half price on Wednesdays too) to share with the family. Then for dessert, they had a great selection of homemade offerings that were awesome too. Service was outstanding, and the staff was all very friendly. Our server, Christian, who was the nicest guy, actually took us on a tour of Lunasea after dinner, showing us the massive outdoor space that included 7 separate bars and a sandy courtyard to play cornhole. This was offseason, but this place clearly is hopping in the summer because it is just a block off the beach in downtown Virginia Beach. So, if you're a local, they have specials most nights and offer great food at affordable prices, so my recommendation is to give them a try - you won't regret it! read more

Hello, I have been avid costumer at this restaurant and I typically do not ever speak up online. What I witnessed tonight was disgusting. After having a wonderful time enjoying the live music that brought me to the establishment I noticed they started packing their things early. I asked the lead performer why they had ended they set early and was shocked at the response that I had heard. The management at this establishment told her she was not "to standards" after she had sang beautifully for hours at this point. To see a woman, on this weekend of all weekends when womens rights have been stripped from them, broken the way she was because of the management and bartenders on staff is repulsive. As an active member of the Virginia Beach community I can assure you I will be sharing my experience for years to come. My family and I took the dogs down Atlantic Ave yesterday afternoon looking for lunch places with outdoor seating since we had our dogs with us. Made a quick turn and spotted this place and decided to give it a try after looking at the menu. The outdoor patio is very cute! The seats are crazy high though (lol). I'm 5'2 and it felt like a struggle getting up. Once seated, they brought out waters for everyone (including our two dogs). They had a lunch menu and a brunch menu and we all opted for the brunch menu since they had a buy one brunch entree, get the other half off. We ordered a Benedict, scrambalaya croissant, and two orders of pancakes as well as two Caribbean lush cocktails. Everything was delicious! My sandwich was a bit hard to eat as everything kept falling out, but still so so good. It came with potatoes with were also really good. The pancakes were big and came with bacon. I was told the Benedict was also really good as well. I also like their hot sauce there (it wasn't the typical Texas Pete or Tabasco)- it actually had a bit of a kick. Next time I'm in VA beach, I'd come back. We all really enjoyed the food. The only downside of the outside was the flies. They were no where to be seen until our food came out. read more

Good happy hour deals for drink and the drinks were made good, but not good food. I got the crab cake sandwich and the first to bites were good until I got to the sauce. The sauce tasted like a pickled thousand island and did not taste good. It was very disappointing. I haven't had a bad crab cake until now. The bun had a great taste, texture, and durability. It still held up after the sauce. The crab dip, however, was delicious. Our waitress was wonderful. My friend got a steak medium done and it came out cold and dry. Went for cocktails. They say they're enforcing covid protocols but multiple staff behind the bar not wearing masks. Advertised prices are "cash only", but we paid cash and paid $28 for 2 drinks.... I was actually very excited to eat at this restaurant because it looked beautiful and very nice however the service was horrible and left me on the burst of tears. I'm not a very confrontational person but I had requested a Cesar salad as a side and I verbally had announced that and the waitress repeated it back to me in that way. However, when she brought me the large bowl I had asked her if it was the Caesar without even touching the bowl. I understand not being able to take it back after that but it was irritating, specifically when I asked for the side and was made to feel wrong, belittled, and stupid by the waitress. After this I asked if I could have the burger taken off since she wrongfully charged me for a salad I didn't want or take the salad off as a whole since I didn't touch it. I understand that was a big ask but I figured I would try anyways so she returned from asking the manager in the back if that was allowed and said no so I was going to let it go but my boyfriend didn't like seeing me upset, frustrated, and disrespected so he then asked to talk to the manager. The manager then came from the back and was being rude and yelling at me about the burger saying it was already being cooked and then I was talking about the salad and how I was wrongfully charged for a size I didn't want and the waitress still continued to belittle me and tell me I was wrong which left me on the verge of tears. After they left I tried so hard not to cry due to the horrible treatment I was given and it made me not even want to eat the food that I ended up paying for anyway. I waited 15 minutes on a sweet tea which I only received because my boyfriend spoke to another waitress for. Ultimately they gave me the right price on the salad after they treated me horrible and put me on the verge of a breakdown. I had to pay 20% in gratuity and it wouldn't have bothered me so much if they didn't treat me like trash and considering gratuity was weird since it was just me and my boyfriend. The waitresses name I had was Jill G and I don't know if she was having a bad day or that's just her personality but I hope she changes it bc her customer service and communication was horrible and made me feel horrible. Get the fish tacos at Lunaseais is how I will begin this review. They were superb, a light smoky taste plenty of condiments and delicious topping along with generous portions. I think my plate of three would have been enough for two people. I started with a house Margarita which was excellent, and coconut shrimp which were also good. Well breaded well cooked served hot with a great Thai chili sauce. Staff is professional and friendly, very attentive, and really make you feel welcome and taken care of. Ask for Cam, he's a great waiter, professional, attentive, and is very nice to talk to. Here's what you need to know: 2-for-1 brunch on Sundays, with a $4 double mimosa OR a $4 make-your-own bloody mary bar. I feel like I should stop writing right now, because you probably just ran out to get a table... On a serious note, Sunday is THE day to stop in. The bloody mary bar has all the fixins you could ever want (pickles, peppers, olives of all shapes and sizes, multiple mixes, hot sauces you've never heard of, garlic, horseradish and more). If there is a wait, this should keep you busy for awhile. And the brunch? The 'two plates for the price of one' deal is pretty rockin'. If you have an odd man out, that person can order two plates for themselves - I know because I did this (what? don't judge me, I like eating). Everyone's food was pretty good and some of the hits were the fruity pancakes and my reuben; juicy, meaty and flavorful - just the way I like it. The brunch menu is not too varied (read: everything comes with the same hashbrowns, and there might be ONE vegetarian option) but if you can find something that speaks to you, you'll be all set. No plus or negatives about the staff - they seemed to just be there in a not-so-noticeable, but not detracting way. DELICIOUS FOOD Came with my family for lunch before an outing and checked out the lunch menu. We were seated outside quickly and served right away. The lunch menu is nice and had variety despite being short. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and it looked so appetizing I forgot to take a photo of it and I DOGGED it. The sauce was so delicious and it was the first crab cake sandwich I've ever had that had more crab than breading in it. I could try the entire menu. Watched a great band last night and the management cut them short for no reason. Absolutely disgusted at how they were treated. Management obviously has some issues there as they are always short staffed and closed the kitchen early because of people quitting. So look through the bad reviews before going here. You will see a theme, and that theme is: decent upfront service but extremely overpriced everything and over charging your bank account/ stealing money from you. So my wife and I went here after a nice dinner at soya sushi ( absolutely wonderful and I suggest going there as it's much much cheaper and better vibes, better food and better drinks, just no outdoor section), Because my wife just moved back to the area with me and I used to some here all the time in my mid 20s. So we go in, the bartender was very nice and respectful, we order 2 Draft domestic beers ( supposed to be the cheapest right?) And go out back to play Cornhole, we play a few games and decide to get 2 more of the exact same thing and hang out for a little. When it's time to go after 4 drinks total for the two of us, domestic draft beers I might add, I go to the bathroom and my wife takes care of the bill. She noticed they charged us a total of $41 for 4 domestic draft beers so waits for me to get out of the bathroom because she didn't think a tip would be appropriate seeing as how much we were just charged for 4 beers. I did leave a tip of $2.70, yes that's low, but my thought was if I'm already paying $41 for 4 beers, there's not much room left for tips.....who would be cool with paying a 20% tip on the most expensive domestic beers, literally in the world? If you want us to tip your bartenders, maybe make the drinks affordable to do so! I wanted to leave him a nice tip, but I didn't have more than $44 to spend that night, I gave them all my money. Draft beers are usually $4-6 dollars, domestic usually $4. So here I was thinking the bill would be around $26 after tax, and that left room for a nice tip.....well after the $41 charge, all my tip money was gone, so who's fault is it really. That's all...right? Nope!! Went home to see they charged the $44 and then another $16.29 on top that was totally unauthorized. So I call them up, a woman answered the phone, I am being nice and explain the situation, she says she will call me back with a solution...well she never called back, and I angrily called back and left a voicemail because I felt robbed and taken advantage of. Still no call back the next day. So I leave a Google review explaining our experience and the owner completely denied everything both my wife and I were saying. Even though we have screenshots of our bank statement showing the charges we are speaking of. Then she begins to gaslight me and tell me none of that happened and claimed I was attacking the bartender, which I never did, I never blamed him, he was wonderful! It's the drink price and the unauthorized charge that I was giving a bad review. Please think twice and read the bad reviews before you go here, you will see a trend, we are not the first to be overcharged or have unauthorized money taken out of our account. I wish I would have read these reviews before we went, it would have saved me from paying$60 for 4 draft domestic beers. Not to mention, if you get robbed or have bad service and say anything about it, the owner will deny and gaslight you to make herself look better.
