Things we'd order again: the pretzel (hands down one of the best we've had), the espresso martini (and the peppermint holiday version), the scallops, the chocolate cheesecake. Things that were good but we might venture from: the steak frites, the Brussels sprouts. Came here for restaurant week and I have to say (1) this is the best restaurant week restaurant I've been to by far and (2) the food and service were excellent. There's a good amount of seating inside and outside but not a ton so be sure to make a reservation. I saw people try to walk in and get a table but they could only get into the bar. It's well decorated inside- each table has a candle, salt shakers, and a little vase of flowers. It was very cute and clean inside. Noise level was okay as well. The service was very good. We drank a LOT of water and they were on top of the refills. They checked on us a lot which we appreciated. Our waiter was kind and patient. There wasn't too much time between dishes but we did have a lot of time for conversation. Their dinner restaurant week menu is pick ANY appetizer, entree, and dessert for a total of $35. Name a better restaurant week deal than that! There's a $5 upcharge for the steak frites and $10 for the filet mignon but the menu is still extensive and full of good options. The free bread and butter is delicious- the bread is chewy and crusty (just how like it) and the butter is salty. The escargot is very very good. The Scottish Salmon entree was very tasty and well cooked but the Scallops & Shrimp entree was also delicious. I highly recommend both. The stone fruit almond galette tastes like apple pie a la mode and was yummy. The chocolate mousse cake was very rich, chocolatey, and decadent if you're into that (which I AM!!). Overall, the portions and flavors were all on point. Wonderful food!! Overall, excellent experience here. Gone way downhill-- I visited Lyon Hall for the first time in four months since I moved out of state, and the food has gone way downhill. My boyfriend's filet medallions were rare instead of medium rare, my seafood pasta was in a slimy and muted sauce with an overcooked quail egg. The food seemed like it had been under a heat lamp for some time. I used to come and enjoy their crisp martinis and fresh, flavorful food, but tonight left much to be desired. However, the service is always amazing, the ambience great, and wonderful music as always. I hope tonight was just an off night for the kitchen. read more

Me and my wife were looking for a great brunch place around Arlington who was offering French food and this was the right place to be! It is located near the Arlington Metro and the ambiance of the restaurant is relaxing. There is ample street parking. We even brought our 10 month old son and the staff were very accommodating. We ordered Croque Madame and Eggs Benedict. Both were really delicious and highly recommended. The salad and french fries were great! Price was very reasonable for both dishes. Service was quick too. There are outside tables as well if you want to enjoy some fresh air on a weekend morning. I would definitely come back and try their Mussels and burger. read more

My friends and I were in the mood for a good brunch but with no options in the close-by area since everything was already booked. We called the location and my friends and I decided to come here since they let us know they still had plenty of seating at 10 am. I am always disappointed when there are no gluten-free bread options so I went with the omelet. My friends ordered the eggs Benedict and french toast. When the food arrived I was so surprised that they offer their eggs, Benedict, on croissant instead of the usual English muffin. I also really loved that they actually use nice thick slices of bread for their french toast. For my omelet, I really enjoyed that it came with a side salad instead of the traditional potatoes. The salad was very enjoyable and I personally loved the big slices of radish and the dressing complimented the omelet very well. For my omelet, I loved that they were able to cook the omelet without excess amounts of oil. My only comment is that I wish they would have cooked the mushrooms for a little while longer but other than that the bacon and spinach were great! Up until this point everything was fine but when it came time to pay we had to wait about 10 minutes to get our check and once we got the check we waited another 10 minutes until ultimately we ended up walking to the front and handing our own check back in order to leave since at that point we had been trying to leave for 20 minutes. I've been here a little over 5 times and most recently went last night. The food is great as always--4 stars (mussels, mocktails, and French onion soup are fantastic). The service was underwhelming (2 stars) and it took away from the food. The staff seemed miserable and are not friendly (including hosts). No one checked in with me for 15 minutes after seating me and my waiter didn't introduce himself. After the main course he didn't even offer the dessert menu until asked. Eek. read more

My sister and another friend and I had not gone to brunch together in some time since I moved out of DC but I was back for a long weekend and we were ready...picked this place as I was in the mood for something different and I had never tried it before...trying something new can be risky and in this case it ended up not really being worth the risk. We arrived on time for our Saturday morning reservation. The establishment was much bigger inside than I thought, definitely was not packed and never became packed for the whole time I was there. The restaurant week menu was intriguing so we decided to try it. My sister and I got the macaroni and cheese appetizers and my friend got the donuts (3 donuts)...very hefty portions. Couldn't eat everything if we wanted to save space for the entree. The macaroni and cheese was lovely and shareable. It was after this that things started going down hill. We sat and waited for our entrees for a LONG time...I don't like confrontation but things were getting ridiculous so I felt forced to approach the hostess. When our food was finally brought to us (the trout, omelette and steak and eggs...all beautifully presented) they were all cold. It felt like they had been prepared in a timely fashion but since hadn't been brought to us, got cold. I approached the hostess again and the entrees were taken away...it was another long wait before they were returned. The omelette and steak and eggs' temperatures had improved but my trout was still the same. It tasted good though...taste was never the issue. Strangely, a side of Brussels sprouts was brought to the table (as an acknowledgement that our food took so long) but that is not something anyone at the table would have ordered had we been given the option. There are a lot of people in this world who don't like Brussels sprouts...it felt like we were just brought something refused by another table. For dessert, I enjoyed my warm apple choufflis, I was hoping it would actually be warm but I enjoyed it despite. The chocolate pot de creme is EXTREMELY rich and decadent. Lastly, it was very slow to clear plates from the table. We had to ask that the appetizer plates be removed when the entrees were brought and same with the entree plates when dessert came. Things got very crowded quickly when they didn't need to be. All in all, I enjoyed the food and the presentation was lovely but service left a lot to be desired. read more

This was a great brunch spot located in Clarendon. My friend and I had reserved a table for a Saturday brunch. They have plentiful outdoor seating as well as indoor tables and a bar. The brunch menu was available from 10am-3pm and has a mix of traditional breakfast items and french-style dishes, cocktails and wine. We were happy to snag a table on the sidewalk. The service was much faster after we waited awhile for the waiter to take our order. The waiter brought our waters and toasty baguette slices. I ordered the Mussels Vin Blanc and a mimosa while my friend had the Eggs Benedict. The mussels were excellent in the white wine, crème fraîche, parsley and shallots. Brunch Review. Came here for brunch with some friends. My friend and I shared the quiche with side salad, and the french dip sandwich. Quiche was perfectly light with a flakey crust. Salad was lightly tossed in a fresh dressing. Would definitely order this again. The french dip was my favorite. The meat was tender, the bread was soft inside with a nice crunch outside. The sandwich just melted in your mouth, this might be all I can ever order from them should I go back. We did 2 mimosa kits, which is basically a $25 bottle of champagne with your choice of juice. Another solid meal at Lyon Hall. There are plenty of outdoor seating available too for covid safety reasons. I really enjoyed their featured Bordeaux wine, Château Pey La Tour, Haut-Medoc, France 2016 and not badly priced! We decided on the escargots for our appetizer. The dish was good and gave you quite a large serving, but I prefer the classic escargots that comes out sizzling on the cast iron so you can dip your bread in the butter -- sometimes less is still more! We held our rehearsal dinner here for about 30 people. It was so easy to coordinate and Lyon Hall even sent us a custom menu. Our guests raved about the food and you all made everything so incredibly easy for our group of 30ish guests! We were especially impressed with the waiters who always made sure our guests' glasses were full and even helped the groom's dad arrange a last minute champagne toast. In a stressful wedding planning season, finding Lyon Hall was a huge win and one of the easiest parts of our experience! Finding a venue that charged a reasonable minimum and had its own dining room for us was a huge win. read more

Ever have one of those nights where you just want to stay in but have a (grown-up) home cooked meal--but don't feel like cooking? This is my go-to place for takeout on those nights (and many others). Pick up a dish here on any of those "I don't know what to order nights" and I'm rarely disappointed. Their food is like an elevated version of what friends in southern France or Switzerland might serve on a weekend dinner--quality fish and meats, perfect but unpretentious veggies, and delicious sauces that accentuate but don't overpower the fresh ingredients. It's not heavy French cooking (though I doubt I'd want to know how much butter they go through!) I could actually drink the sauce that comes over grilled Branzino. The hanger steak is the best I've found in town since Ray's the Steaks closed. The roasted chicken or braised short rib are always a perfect balance of meat, veg, and sauce. Their soups are amazing and I usually get a veggie side because they are just so fresh tasting. And just order the baguette always. I haven't braved takeout mussels, but they were delicious when we have gone out to dinner there in the past. There aren't many cons. The portions aren't Americanized. They are what you'd find in France: a reasonable meal but not tons of leftovers. I do wish the veg portions with entrees were a little bigger. They are so delicious that I'm usually left wanting more. I wish they'd add a Lyonnaise salad (frisee, lardon, egg, etc.)--I would probably go broke ordering that for every meal since it's a favorite comfort food for me. Yes, it's easy to make at home but finding a head of frisée in DC is a struggle. That's all I can come up with for drawbacks? This place is just a solid spot for delicious fresh food. read more

Over the years of living in Arlington I have passed this place a hundred times and always seen the outside bustling with people. Even during these weird COVID times, I have seen the steady flow of people filling up their patio so I thought "maybe I should finally try it!" We came here on a Friday night right after their happy hour, where the deals look spectacular (note to self, come for HH next time). We reserved an indoor high top table and their indoor social distancing was done pretty well. However the bartender was our waitress and she was swamped, not only pouring everyones drinks but taking our order. Note to self, sit at a normal table or outdoors if weather permits. Nothing against her service, I feel like they should have had someone helping her but the busboys did a great job of cleaning up after us. Drinks: I loved the gin drink and the prices for beer/wine were reasonable for the area. Food: we started with the cauliflower bisque, followed by the steak frites and the filet. My boyfriend loved his steak and said the sides were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed my frites too and the Bearnaise sauce was one of the better ones I've had. I've been coming maybe once a year to Lyon Hall since 2011-ish. This week, I dislocated my shoulder for the second time in a year, so my boyfriend decided to take care of me and treat me to dinner. Making reservations and observing COVID-19 guidelines was clear and easy. Service is attentive, respectful, and excellent. We ordered a bottle of wine, our waiter properly served it to us, and he even made sure to not rush us through ordering food. When we did order food, our shared Thai curry mussels came quickly. THEY ARE THE BEST MUSSELS I'VE EVER HAD! 10/10 would come again just for wine, mussels, and bread. Then our entrees came. My boyfriend had a HUGE burger and side salad (which I ate because he offered, it was delicious, and salad doesn't reheat well). I had the risotto, which was like winter coziness in a bowl. If you've ever made risotto, then you know it is a patient process and art. Lyon Hall's risotto is perfect for anyone looking for a bit of extra flavor in their dish! Absolutely delicious! TRULY DISGUSTING experience here. It'd been a while since we came, but this was always one of our favorites. No longer! It's a must-avoid now, I'm afraid, and not sure when or if they can solve their problems, or if the health department needs to be involved. We came for dinner and had to wait about 20 minutes to order. I get it, staffing shortages are real. Fine, we order and wait about 20 more minutes for drinks. Starting to get a little rough, ask for bread (which we hadn't gotten, and which would have made the 40 minutes of waiting go a little easier). Had to walk over to the waitress to ask if it was coming soon, finally get our appetizers and some bread! Well...turns out the bread was just piled into a basket on top of someone else's leftover chewed up crusts and used butter dish. We didn't discover it until we'd eaten the bread on top...I cannot even begin to tell you how disgusted we were. This is, bar none, the most upsetting experience I've had at a restaurant. This is how people get sick, this is why restaurants have health and safety protocols. Our appetizers were comped (wow, no kidding) but we will not be back. It tasted very balanced! Would definitely order again for lunch. The potato salad not the side also made for a good contrast since it was a cold side. The potato salad was also shockingly delicious and not heavy on the mayo flavor. Vinc Blanc Mussels: the broth was good but the biggest win for me was the large mussels. They were HUGE. Made a reservation for 3 people for a midday lunch during the week. The restaurant was busy for a Tuesday-- but it's the holiday season, so this was expected! This also goes for other staff who were bussing tables and dropping off food. Top notch service! The food was great. I ordered a mixed green salad with grilled chicken, and a side of Macaroni au gratin. The salad was fresh and light and the chicken was superb (I know -- grilled chicken? Really? But yes. Really!) The macaroni was uber creamy and served in a little cast iron skillet. The noodles had a great bite and it was topped with a dusting of bread crumbs. Every table got a bread basket of French baguette-- awesome. The restaurant was decorated for the winter holidays-- tasteful and festive, but not over the top. The details were appreciated! I thought this place was a music venue for the longest time and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered it was a restaurant. I've had a good experience every time I've been here. I've ordered the HH mussels, and they're a great deal. I remember two orders were easily shareable amongst five hungry gals. They have other items on the menu worth ordering that are good for sharing as well. The Brussels Sprouts didn't disappoint nor did the cocktails we ordered. Mussels vin blanc with SJF cocktail... my day is complete. I have had mussel pots all over and I can say with certainty that Lyon Hall mussels are hands down one of the best! Make sure to ask for some bread to dip in the yummy leftover sauce. I've been here many times and service has always been great as has the food. This time we got a burger bar as a french dip sandwich in addition to the mussels. I have to say, the burger was absolutely mind blowing delicious. I've had the regular burger off the menu and thought it was ok, but the bar burger off the happy hour menu is one for the records. Yum! One of the best happy hours around. Lyon Hall has been my wife and I's favorite restaurant since we moved to Arlington. I've been getting their steak frites for years and it is consistently amazing. Mussel pots are also great. Place is always well decorated and it is without a doubt the coziest restaurant in town. Felt compelled to write this review after we went to a fancy restaurant in the city for my wife's birthday, and left after appetizers due to a terrible experience there and decided to go to Lyon Hall. So glad we did. We got a comfortable seat, quick and friendly service, and some amazing food.
