I used to work at a Bed and Breakfast in Newport Beach. One morning a guest that had driven from Las Vegas asked me to recommend a mechanic to service his vehicle before his return trip. I sent him to MA Auto and before he checked out he told me he had such a good experience with Oscar that anytime he needed service he was going to make a vacation and drive the 5 hours from Los Vegas to Orange. I also have two friends that drive their cars (2011 Toureg and late model Camry) from San Francisco to Orange for the service they receive at MA Auto. I realize it seems extreme to drive such a distance for service but that is exactly why we drive so far, the service. MA Auto is the only place I take my car for service or repair. It was a note that simply read, "I bet you are a pain in the @&$" from a John Y. about my review of M A Auto Service. I suspect that either Johnny either works at M A or is a friend of the business: 1. If by pain in the a*# he means a customer should expect a status within 4 hours of bringing your car in for service, then I wear that like a badge of honor. 2. If he's referring to pain in the a*$ by expecting a car repair to be complete within a reasonable amount of time, then yes, I'm like a irritating boil on your tailbone. 3. Finally, if by pain in the arse a customer should expect competence when bringing in a car for service then I'm like a hemorrhoid after Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, these are basic expectations one should receive from any decent repair facility! When it comes to cars, I'm especially picky. I've been to tech school, work in the car business, and try out different shops to find out who is honest and who isn't. I know the value of parts and labor and sometimes call out a shop to get a proper price. Here's the story. We have a 1998 Lexus ES300. It was around 200,000 miles with a check engine light. There were no driveability issues. We took it to a Lexus dealer. They suggested that we replace the engine, because it's over 200,000 miles and it pulled up a lot of codes on the OBDII diagnostic. What I didn't tell them was that headwork was done and wanted to see what they would say. We paid for the diag and took it home. I'll never go to that place again. We took it to MA Auto. They pulled the codes, told us which codes they were, how we got them, replaced a $5 hose related to emissions, cleared the codes, and that was it. It was a 10 minute fix. Lexus dealer = replace engine and spend $$$$. MA Auto = Proper diagnosis and repair and spend $ They've earned my trust. read more

I have been having my vehicles (Mercedes, Toyota's and Lexus's) serviced by MA Auto for over 15 years. It is very hard to find decent, honest mechanics these days, so when you find someone of Oscars caliber, you maintain those relationships. He has always taken the time to explain what items need to be addressed now and those that can wait. He also never performs unnecessary repairs. When comparing the prices of taking your car to a dealership and to MA Auto, hundreds of dollars will be saved, all the while using genuine factory parts for your vehicle. All work has usually been performed and completed in one day with great communication and service. I noticed one reviewer said that there is no room for customers to sit. There are benches outside and a couple of chairs in the main office, which I have availed myself of when there for minor services. If you're looking for cappuccino's, bagels and donuts and a lounge with a wide screen TV and WIFI, then by all means take yourself to a dealer. You will certainly be comfortable, a little cozier, and add to your spare tire, although your wallet/purse will be screaming with indignation at the prices you will pay for these luxuries! Oscar, his son Mark and their team of professionals provide for me and my family peace of mind, knowing that I will get great service, excellent repairs, all at an affordable price. My car didn't pass the smog test so I brought it in along with the sheet that says what it didn't pass for. The car is 12 years old and I know has many issues but I specifically asked for just the necessary repairs to pass the smog test. I received a call back and they gave me a laundry list of items that need repair. They went through the car and found every little problem and wanted me to fix them. I specifically asked for only the items to make it pass smog as I don't have the cash to get a 12 year old looking new. Then they wanted to mog the car for me which I told them no as I get a free re-test. He tried to tell me that he needed to check the exhaust so it would be better to get it smoged at the same time. The exhaust passed the test and was not my issue so I ahd to tell him not to do it. I was really frustrated when I got off the phone as I'm spending hundreds that I don't know is truely necessary to fix the car. I felt like they were fishing for additional reapirs that I don't really need or can afford right now. read more

They took the time to explain everything wrong, costs relative to 'band aids' people do, long term expectations, exact costs of parts, etc. The work was done in the time frame they gave and in two instances at even lower prices than quoted. And their prices are the lowest I've found to begin with! My dad and I both take our cars there and I've sent two friends after my great experience...and they were very happy, both in the quality of repairs and costs much lower than any other shop offered. 1 word. Honest. I first met Oscar and son Mark 10 years ago. I was told by the dealer that it would be $900 to fix brakes, 2 rotors, 2 calipers, and wheel bearings. I took my Chevy to Oscar and after 1 hour he told me that yes, I needed brakes and 1 wheel bearing but my rotors could be machined and the calipers were just dirty and didn't need replacing so he cleaned them. He could have charged me for all that but he did not. My total bill was $263.00. He made a client for life. I have high mileage on both of my cars and will always take my cars there to Mark and Oscar. I saw the other post from someone that had a lot of problems mechanical with their car that they didn't want to fix... Oscar, will tell you everything that's wrong with it and what needs replacing right NOW and also what can safely wait. I trust his judgement... read more

I bought a new mercedes in 1977, a 300D. After the the dealer warranty was over, I took the car to MA Auto for regular service. Oscar was always up front and very honest about what it needed. After about 450,000 miles he put a new engine from mercedes factory. The car had over 925,000 miles when I sold it. Without MA Auto's great service and care the car wouldn't have made it that far with never stalling or breaking down once!!!!! I now have a 1998 Nissan that i bought new with over 500,000 miles and running like new thanks to MA Auto.... These guys are idiots! Just out to make a dollar and rip you off. A few months ago my friend warned me about these dishonest guys, but I didn't listen because I thought it would be an easy fix. Boy did I pay for that. It ended up costing me over $1000 with these doorstops! My friend said all the positive reviews are from their friends, not real customers. Last year he complained about them not knowing what they were doing and kept having the same trouble with his car over and over again. After taking it to a reputable shop, he learned (after seeing with his own eyes) that 2 parts these yahoos said they replaced with new ones (and charged them for) were NEVER replaced. And he kept the old parts to prove it! Run from these guys. read more
