M Sushi is a delightful place to get a taste of Japan. I complemented my server on a well-executed presentation of my dinner. I came on a Friday and the usual Friday night recommendations apply. Those without reservations need to come close to opening time. Otherwise, making reservations is the way to go. We knew what we wanted to order before our server arrived. It was a busy night and we knew we'd be waiting forever if we didn't order promptly. Big thanks for bringing our drinks out swiftly. My pork tonkatsu special was done true-to-style. It brought back fond memories of my Japan trip last year. My mother's udon special was equally well-presented. Shoutout to the chefs. We savored every bite. I ordered a sake and was given a rose (as stated in the receipt too) but I couldn't get it fixed as she never came around. Service was extremely helpful, expertly describing each course, taking questions as they came up, and generally making the dining experience top notch. The evening, for four, all of us having two drinks, came to $435 before tip. That's roughly $130/person. For what we got, this is pretty reasonable, but be prepared, you'll spend a little. Cut out the drinks and you can reduce the cost a bit. Parking is tricky, at least it seemed that way. I had a wonderful experience at M sushi - service, ambiance, and the food were all excellent. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the nigiri omakase. Both the server and chef were attentive and the dishes came out at the right time. The fish were fresh and high quality, and I particularly enjoyed the vinegar rice. It really felt like a true omakase experience with the chef explaining each fish and checking in to see if it had the right amount of wasabi. In addition to the 12 pieces of nigiri, I was given an option for an additional piece of my choice which was a very nice note. The value was amazing as it was $85 for 16 courses. One of the best chirashi bowls I've had! The fish is ample in this one and the sushi rice is seasoned and warm. The omelet noodles make a really great bed and a texture amplifier to the fish and sushi. Would come here just for this chirashi bowl again! Let's just say, that I actively look for nigiri now, but I will have to come back to M sushi to have the experience I want. They have set a new bar for me when it comes to good sushi/nigiri. After having the omakase, I tried the M special. Usually the more ingredients the more I like the roll. But after having the omakase, the m special roll felt like too much. I've had a chance to check out the Durham M Sushi and wanted to see how the Cary one compares. I went on a weekday night and they were able to seat me without a reservation luckily. I ended up getting the vegan bento which was superb. I loved all the dishes that came with it with balanced flavor. The one issue I had was that there was not really any unique vegetarian sushi options outside the bento box which didn't make sense because there were some great sushi roles in the bento box which you could not get otherwise. Regardless, I also got an Asahi to drink which was decent and bottled (surprised there was no draft options). Atmosphere was great. They definitely took a modern upscale vision and turned it into a sushi bar. From the outside, you cannot see anybody eating and makes it a really unique dining experience. The prices were expensive (the bento box was $29) but that is expected for a place of this caliber. Plenty of free parking in the area. Staff was friendly and gave good suggestions. Overall, a great date night spot and may want to make a reservation prior to coming. Looking forward for them to expand the menu a little bit more for vegetarians before I come back. read more

Ambiance: With dark colors, and wood tones, the ambience of the restaurant is modern and cozy. The size of the restaurant is not large, so do expect to be close to other people while enjoying your meal. The corner tables are the most private. Food: We opted to do the Omakase, which took about an hour and a half, and let us sample all the fresh fish that the restaurant had to offer. Each piece of nigiri already had wasabi placed under the fish and was lightly brushed with soy sauce, so that nothing else was necessary once the plate was delivered. The waitress did a fantastic job of explaining what type of fish it was, where it came from and what the flavor profile was. Our Omakase ended with a dessert that was called Yuzu five ways. It was delicate and had a variety of unique flavors. One recommendation made by the waitress was to try the Omakase sitting at the bar because then the fish is delivered piece by piece fresh as it is made versus one that is ordered at a table and they must place four fish on the plate for each person and deliver it at the exact same time. Drink: The sparkling sake was a hit and a type of sake that I have never tried before. Also, the wasabi martini was absolutely delicious and something that I wish I could make at home! Service: Ning Ning was a great waitress, and went to great lengths to explain everything to us. Give her recommendations and make us feel comfortable. She was also extremely knowledgeable and I would love to have her as a waitress when we come back again. M sushi of Cary has a goal of bringing authentic and simplistic sushi to the area. I've been here a few times and recommend getting the Grand Omakase or the Nigiri Omakase. Eating this dinner is like experiencing art. Everything is beautifully plated and the staff expertly introduce each course. The depth of flavor and attention to detail of each dish is amazing. IT WAS AMAZING!!! Every bite of sushi just 5/5. The nigiri was beautifully prepared and words cannot describe how lovely every bite of the tuna trio was. I genuinely almost ordered it twice. My friend and I popped in for lunch and shared a few rolls at M Sushi. At first we walked right past the entrance as it was discreet, but we backtracked and quickly found the right spot. As you walk in, it feels like you are transported to an exclusive underground restaurant. I loved the dark, moody aesthetic. I come from an area where all sushi is all-you-can-eat, so I was concerned I might be disappointed with the portions. However, the fish was very fresh and satiated my cravings. The rice to fish ratio was good--meaning not too heavy on the rice. My friend and I both opted for a cherry blossom mocktail which was a fantastic pairing for the variety of rolls we ordered. I was pleased with all of the food as well as the friendly and discreet service. This was an enjoyable lunch with a friend, but M Sushi could also be perfect for a romantic date night. Best sushi restaurant hands down. M-Sushi easily tops O-ku and the other well known high end sushi restaurants. I dined here for my 21st birthday with my parents and we all agreed it was one of if not the best dinner we have ever had. The many sushi chefs are masters creating literal pieces of art. Their workstation is open and visible especially if you are sitting at the bar. The atmosphere is top notch- super elegant low light vibe. Definitely felt like you were at a high end restaurant in a big city. I would highly recommend reservations as we had to wait on a Monday night! Their menu is definitely more than sushi and fish- there is something for everyone. Personally, I started off with the Nigiri Sampler appetizer. Hands down best fish I've ever had. It was so incredibly fresh. The sushi chef named off all the different fish and I was amazed. Then for my meal I got the twisted mango roll and the sunomono roll. OH MY GOSH the twisted mango roll. I went there for lunch on a Saturday with 2 girlfriends for my birthday in July, their AC was broken or malfunctioning, so it wasn't as pleasant as expected. Large wooden looking door separating the entry foyer and the hostess area. I was overwhelmed by the fishy smell immediately when I went through the large door into the dining area, which was probably the result of the AC issue. I had the The portion was smaller than I had expected . The quality is good but I was not wowed by it. I ate sashimi and sushi many times that week bc it was my birthday month. I think I would come back if it is a friends dinner but probably not on my own nor with my husband. I had much better sashimi around town elsewhere for the same price point. We ordered the M Sushi Deluxe 8 piece, Gyudon, and M Special. The Sushi Deluxe was well balanced, and each piece was a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The Gyudon was more filling than we expected, and the meat was cooked to perfection. The M Special was packed with different flavors but wasn't overwhelming like some specialty rolls at other restaurants. We knew we would end up at Fenton by the end of the night because it's such a fantastic place to go out for drinks, and has a great night scene. My five star ratings are reserved for places that absolutely knock it out of the park in terms of atmosphere, service and food, and M sushi not only checks all the marks, it goes beyond. Phenomenal in every single way. The atmosphere here is top tier and truly feels like a unique experience. It's dimly lit, and people cannot see inside the restaurant from the outside, providing a very intimate and cozy eating experience. Now the sushi itself was the freshest, most delicious sushi I have had at least since moving to North Carolina, if not ever. Every single roll and nigiri was perfect, and you can see how much care and passion the sushi chefs put into their work. I won't go into much detail about everything I ordered, because it won't do it justice. You need to get out here and give it a try, and you'll truly understand. Note: This place is pricey, but for a reason! Prepare for a $200 dollar meal for two people. This is not a place you go to on any casual day (unless you can afford it). Came for Valentine's Dinner. The front door is a little bit discrete, but once you find it and enter the restaurant, the interior is dark and sets the mood for a fine dining experience. We both ordered the nigiri omakase (normally required that all members of the table order it if one person decides to get it. IT WAS FANTASTIC. You aren't just paying for the food, you are paying for the whole experience. In addition to the excellent craftsmanship on the nigiri, the whole experience is carefully thought out. You receive starting dishes, several nigiri dishes, and then a few closing dishes. They include a wet towel for you to wipe your hands with so that you can use your hands to consume the nigiri. The dishes are all ordered from left to right to be eaten in that order for the best experience. With each dish, the waiter also explains the fish, the origins of the fish, and the preparation for each of them. There is special consideration to the rice and each one is prepared in a different way to best complement the fish that it carries. I brought a note pad to write down and describe each nigiri as I ate them, here are a few of my favorites: charcoal sea salt provides phenomenal bitter contrast, the fatty tuna melts in your mouth and doesn't require a bite to break through (the wagyu of fish cut), pulled scallop was pleasantly sweet and was a fun surprise to a familiar taste. Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice dinner and a great experience. It may seem like not a lot of food, but I was perfectly content after the meal. read more

I had the nigiri omakase with my friend and it was a great experience! If possible I recommend the bar side because you get each piece like a traditional omakase where the flavor is at its peak. Service was quick and attentive and the chief matched our pace. I appreciated the mini warm wet towel they give to wash your fingers after each piece. (Nigiri best eaten with your hands) If you would like extras such as the uni (amazing btw) in your experience make sure to order that when you ask for the omakase so that they can incorporate it in the correct order for your nigiris!! Each piece of fish was very fresh and amazing. The first few nigiris started with the typical sushi rice, but they switched to the red rice depending on the fish that is served. The wasabi ratio also changed depending on the fish. So it seems that each piece is created with intent. The interior was also amazing. The setting is dark with a deeply textured wall on one side of the restaurant. Yet it is well lit when you sit down with almost a spotlight on your table/bar spot to illuminate your food. Walking up to the restaurant is a treat as the Fenton area is gorgeous and the sleek black doors bring a bit of mystery. The service was great, starting with the hosts. Though I did not make any reservations, we were seated quickly (visited on a weekday). I had never experienced a restaurant without windows but that factor as well as the open kitchen concept only added positively. I dined at the bar which had ample space and was perfect for conversation. I ordered the edamame for an appetizer with the twisted mango roll, and spider roll ,with very little modification due to allergies, for the entree. Wow, talk about hitting a grand slam! M has done it again with their new Cary location. When you walk in, its a modern elegant sushi bar like you might see in Tokyo or Osaka, with great service. This location focusses on simplicity. With the Nigiri Omakase, all the items are fish over rice with minimal adds. But wow that fish is good! My favorites were the sea bream and sea trout. But, bluefin, yellowtail, its all really good. You start with a crudo, very nice marinade on that fish. Then right before the sushi, you get a delicious seafood custard.
