M Vista has a nice decor and the service is good, but the entree' I had was not as flavorful as I would have preferred. My wife had sushi that she liked very much. We have been frequent diners at M Vista in the past, and we went there tonight after a longish break -- and were quite disappointed. We started with an app of crab wontons. One of the 5 wontons had no filling at all (it had clearly fallen out). We pointed it out to our waitress who said 'sorry' and then took it away with no offer of replacement or discount. Our son's entree was brought out almost 15 minutes before ours; he was done before we got our food. When we got our entrees, there was something clearly wrong with the sauce. We had both ordered a wok entree with Thai Basil sauce, and what we got was a thick, sweet mustard sauce which tasted like the packets you get along with duck sauce and soy. No sign of having been near a basil leaf. We felt like we had already complained about the wontons and didn't want to annoy, so we ate it, but it was not right. We did let our waitress know about that at the end, and all she said again was 'sorry'. We were looking for a good meal; not a discount -- but there are ways to make things right, and M Vista didn't seem all that interested. It's quite possible this will be our last visit to a place we used to frequent. What a shame; they need to work on quality control and responsiveness. read more

One would think that a year into the pandemic every restaurant would have their take-out business pretty organized.Not M Vista! On one visit, I spent 25 minutes past the time I was told waiting for my take-out order - in the bar where patrons were not wearing masks (understandably) and most of the servers had their masks below their noses. I uncomfortably stood there watching staff bring boxes of food up to the bar, then other staff members come up and move them around, then other staff members come and moved them around a little more. I had ordered three entrees, and two of the three apparently were some of the boxes being moved around for about 20 minutes. After getting the food home, i discovered that one included shrimp - even though we specifically asked for no shrimp. So, we called and heard no remorse, but were told we could come back to get the corrected order. That involved waiting 10 minutes past the time it was promised.... read more

I like all of the Miyo's restaurants. After spending an extensive time in Hong Kong, I know that Americanized Chinese food can be sub par and far from authentic Chinese food. Miyo's brings its chef over from China, so the food is the best of both worlds. It's prepared in a clean kitchen and tastes like China. Their sushi and sashimi is fantastic and affordable. Dessert is plentiful and also fresh. The Godiva chocolate cake is heaven on a fork. The sorbet is pure frozen goodness. I encourage everyone to eat here for good Chinese food. read more

M Vista has the most wonderful flank steak dish and the green beans which accompany this dish are also delicious! This is always my choice as I am not a person who eats sushi. I would have made this a 4-star review except that it was always noisy and the service is quite slow every time that I have eaten here (at least seven or eight visits). Pad Thai is one of the dishes we always order and last night , MVista's was one of THE WORST! Just a greasy plate of noodles with some sauce, a few pieces of sliced, purple onion & red bell pepper. No bean sprouts. No peanuts. No cilantro or egg or anything. For $13 we were VERY disappointed. There are too many options available in Columbia. Not going back. If you have a gluten allergy, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! I've taken both my mom and my best friend (both have gluten intolerances) multiple times and every time, the chef and wait staff have been careful to avoid cross-contamination and they've never gotten sick, which is a huge deal! :) Recommendation: order the chicken lettuce wraps for a cheap meal (way bigger portion than you would expect for an appetizer, and the flavors are delicious!). read more

The decor was great and the service was fine. I had the Chicken Cashew and it was bland said made for a kids palate. I got Tuna, Salmon and Eel sashimi and it was a bit mushy and the texture was off. They did give me another order which tasted fine but I had to drive all the way back up there, no refund, and the manager didn't even take the time to apologize or even come out and talk to me. This is a fusion asian place with a variety of Thai, Japanese, Sushi and American food. The menu is very diverse so it is a good hang out place with friends. I will give two stars for ambience and decor. The food looks good but taste BLAND. If you look for a tasty authentic meal, do not go to this place. Appetizer: Potsticker is ok. Chicken and beef satay are horrible. The meet was dry. The peanut sauce is so diluted. Normally, peanut sauce for satay should be a little thick and buttery. The sauce should stick on meat when you dip it. Their sauce is like peanut water!! I can buy a packet of dry peanut sauce, boiled in water and it will tastes better... I ordered sushi and sahimi. While the sashimi was fresh, I got 3 pieces of salmon, tuna and white tuna but nothings else. Ok I got a good portion of sashimi but there was no variety here. For the sushi, the rice was tasteless. Usually, sushi rice has to have a hint of rice vinegar but it tastes like I'm eating a piece of fish over sticky rice. The end of story. Will not go back. I can cook better at home. read more

Wow...all I can say. We were greeted by a cute and preppy server named Sydney. She was very prompt and took very good care of us. She answered any questions we had and even recommended that I order the palmetto roll which was delicious. The honey complimented the roll very well, highly recommend. The ambience was great and the lights were dimmed to a great amount, enough to set the mood but still see the menu. Also great playlist. Overall, an awesome experience. The exquisite variety of Asian cuisine impresses most cultural foodies in the neighboring community in Columbia, South Carolina at a restaurant called M Vista. An example of a simple, but tasty appetizer is the classic vegetable spring roll, which has the crunchy outer shell dipped in a soy sauce, but consists of a chewy inner filling of lettuce, carrots, and onions and my sister really enjoyed it. Next order up for my brother was the deluxe noodle soup, which included the soft slippery strands of noodles in a deliciously hot vegetable based broth. Lastly having the choice of chicken, beef, shrimp or even tofu, the customer has the ultimate choice in deciding the style of flavor in their particular main course. When eating the sweet and sour steamed chicken order, I could taste the sweet crunch of the diced peppers and the tanginess of the bite size pineapple. A serving of delicious artwork is always presented to the customer and to make the experience better, the waiter was very quick on demand and easy to communicate to, which really determined the grade of a working employee. At M Vista I would give them an "A" on service as they really expressed the factor of being nice and having a welcoming smile right on sight. Putting into thought that the meals were served in large proportions, the prices were just about right. The two spring rolls mentioned before were $2.95 and at most times at other restaurants they are more demanding in price. The main course under the WOK column in the menu was at $7.95 as the large china plates had two scoops of different rice of my choosing and the dish. The Asian type atmosphere really expressed the European culture as the walls were painted a pale color and adorning the walls were bright lamps and red parasols. Bamboo walls divided the dining area, consisting of red cushioned seats and sturdy tables, and the kitchen area, which was actually not covered up inside a room. The restrooms were semi clean and low lit for the special effect of comfort. Plates and bowls were a scarred white as fork scrapes were embedded in them. Overall, the restaurant was a nice friendly environment to be in and the food was splendidly well cooked. In my opinion the experience at M Vista will be better if dining with family and friends. The atmosphere is really nice and the service is good. I'm not giving this place a better rating because I'm still a little annoyed about my appetizer. I wanted to get their veggie spring rolls but wasn't in the mood for fried anything so our waitress suggested that I have their vietnamese summer roll instead, which is wrapped in rice paper and is healthier. I told her I was vegetarian and can't eat shrimp. She said they could make it vegetarian so I went ahead and ordered it. When it was brought to our table, I was basically served a plate of lettuce rolls. There was absolutely nothing inside of each summer roll except for lettuce, and that's it! The peanut sauce that it was served with was tasty, but I was still surprised that they did not bother to throw in some other vegetables in lieu of the shrimp. Yet I was still charged $6 for this appetizer which to me felt like a total ripoff. On the other hand, my entree, sesame tofu w/brown rice, was plentiful and very flavorful, so this did make up for my irritation with the starter, the food was good and they were generous with portion size. Nonetheless at the end of the night when I got my bill, I still found it hard to swallow paying what I paid for a bunch of lettuce rolls, it just was not worth it. Suggestion to Management: When protein is taken out of a meal to make it vegetarian, either ensure that there are good vegetable substitutes so that you're actually serving something of substance, or if that's not doable, reduce the price. I paid the same amount someone would have paid to have shrimp (which obviously made the app more filling), but instead all I got was a weak lettuce appetizer and a fat bill, so yeah, if you can't tell, I was a bit disappointed. read more

Bartenders should spend more time helping customers and less time on to-go orders. If they aren't on the phone they're in the back boxing food up. I came for lunch with a friend and saw a bar full of people being ignored while the poor girls there spent all their time focused on call-ins. I get that it's a business but they should take care of the people in front of them first. Took me forever just to get a menu and if I didn't have cash I might still be waiting for my bill. I love the food at M Vista but the service this time was awful. I always give servers the benefit of having a bad day being a sever myself in college but the attitude of our server Ryan was awful and making it one of the worst dining experiences, me and my friend waited on refills the entire evening while watching him chat and play around with the other staff, was not busy at all but was paid no attention. 10-12 minutes passed by before being asked for a drink order and another 15-20 minutes before ordering food. The sushi here is great and I've eaten it dozens of times. Service at the bar is top notch and if you're lucky, you'll get Ryan to take care of you. He's a great bartender and mixologist. They used to have a roll called the Rabuck roll and they can still make it even though it's not on the menu. It's unique in that it has fresh jalapeño and cilantro in it and is a personal favorite of mine. The apps like the potstickers and avocado salad are excellent. The only downside is that the beer selection sucks. No draft beers and only a couple regional offerings. The food and service make up for the lack of good beer. read more

Last time I checked, pre-chewed food didn't really hit the market well. My friends ordered stir fried meals with rice, those were good. Decided to try M Vista for the first time. Went with my wife, son and daughter. My wife ordered the sweet and sour chicken, the chicken was cold. My daughter got the chicken lettuce wraps. There was a PC of metal scrub brush in hers. I had the Szechwan beef, my son had the orange beef. Ours was ok. I will have to say the waitress was very good. I will take my business elsewhere. I've been going here for as long as I've been in Columbia (About two years now), and have always loved my time there. In fact, I've frequented it every Friday night for quite a while now. I would always sit at the same spot at the bar and order the same things while making fantastic conversation with the same bartender. I loved it so much, I would bring groups of friends in every week without fail, and it quickly became our routine every weekend. Come to find out that my favorite, regular bartender was let go because of conflicts with the management over something petty. During my time, he was always setting the bar high for quality customer service, and had many regulars as a result. M Vista will no longer have my business if they're going to treat their employees so poorly. I speak for the rest of his regulars and myself when I say that M Vista is sorely lacking quality without him there. I will be taking my business, and my friends business to a place that respects and rewards the hard work and dedication of good employees. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for several years now. Up until the recent opening of M Grille nearby, I ordered the same entree every time. After M Grille opened, I noticed the consistency of this meal went down and more often than not, something just didnt didnt taste right about my usual. Maybe they moved the chef? Anyway, sometimes the meat was chewy, red, flavorless, or not the right temperature. I continued to go but stuck to ordering sushi, as it's much more difficult to ruin raw fish and rice. Occasionally if I ordered sashimi, the fish would be slighly frozen in the middle. l did love the Thursday night bar staff, as they were two of the only bartenders who made more than the generic smirnoff "cocktails" on the menu. M Company doesnt take Columbia's interest in good drinks that seriously but with the right bartender, it can be overlooked. I wouldnt recommend going here again though until they get a few things together. In the meantime, I suggest you go to Antai, as the food is very similar and much more consistent in quality. read more

They had some of the best sushi I've eaten (Spicy Tuna roll appetizer - 6 avg. sized pieces around $6) and some of the worst vegetable fried rice and sesame chicken with broccoli I have ever eaten (avg size entree, around $13.00). Sesame chicken was a bit too sweet and the breading on the chicken didn't stick well and had a semi-slimy texture with a mediocre overall flavor, also the broccoli was just 2 ice cold florets on the side of the plate. The vegetable fried rice had a melted plastic flavor and was obviously very overcooked, I complained and was told by the server that "it just depends on who you get back there". The entire entree tasted like it was reheated in a microwave or something. Other than ignoring my complaint, the server was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. If I go back, it will only be for sushi- I just hope I get someone good "back there"... read more
