Dig how bright and pretty this place is and the fact that you can get a mani/pedi at the same time. I've been here twice now, once for a gel removal and once for a regular manicure and pedicure. I'd never been to a "no soak" salon before but appreciated the owner filling me in on all of the benefits. It's basically just a cleanliness thing, but also helps save water which we always need here in SoCal. I'll echo a few others in saying that the nail techs can be a little aggressive here--I definitely had pain on my finger when I was getting gel removal and on my toes while getting a pedi. Both my manicure and pedicure chipped earlier than I would've expected (less than a week), but they did warn me that the polish I chose for my toes is less toxic and therefore has less staying power. Lastly, I accidentally knocked and broke one of the polishes while I was picking my color and felt terrible about it. The owner was really sweet about it, but one of the other nail techs looked visibly annoyed and it set a weird vibe for the rest of the service for me. I'd think about coming back for a gel service or something in the future, but as it stands right now don't think I've found my go-to nail salon. read more

I don't know why this is not the #1 nail salon in Culver City. It is so modern and the staff there is so incredibly nice. There are so many different polish colors to choose from! Their method is so relaxing. You get hot towels, exfoliating scrub, and hand/foot massages. That's even before the polish! In the end, it looks beautiful and perfect. Love love love! read more

Horrible customer service. I booked for 2 and my friend arrived 12 mins late. My friend was declined services she wanted because another client was booked 30 minutes after us and there "won't be enough time". This was at 5 and they close at 7, according to online info. At no point during my multiple conversations with the front desk attendant, phone and in person, was I informed that being late would be a problem that would result to this. I was also precise in mentioning over the phone, when I made the appointment, that we were NEW, there were 2 of us and that my friend was UNDECIDED on her services. All this could have been avoided had I been informed of pertinent information from the beginning. We would have made other plans. My could have made sure to be there on time. We could have rescheduled. My friend sat and waited until I was done. Wasted, time, money, and energy. Zero stars if possible. read more

This is a negative review of Mia, the owner of Maalou, not of the salon. I brought my 11 year old granddaughter in for her manicure appointment a few days ago. She picked out 3 colors, 1 color was for only 2 nails. Mia ended up applying the polish. When she found out there were 3 colors involved, she said she didn't have time to do what my granddaughter wanted. I even offered to pay extra so my granddaughter could have what she chose. But Mia kept repeating she didn't have time. The reason appeared to be because 2 women had come in(I don't think they had appointments, but I don't know for sure) and they wanted mani-pedis. Mia got very mean spirited and you could see my granddaughter was upset. The time that Mia spent refusing could have been used to put on the 3rd color. It's one thing to be argumentative about a service involving an adult, but this was about and in front of an 11 year old. Mia , in my opinion was rude, mean and unprofessional. I've also noticed the turnover of manicurists, I wonder why? I really liked coming to Maalou, it's quiet, clean and relaxing. Haven't decided if I am coming back. read more

This is a fabulous place to have your nails done. I found Maalou on Yelp and had my first appointment today. At first impression I was struck by how clean, serene and beautiful the salon was. I didn't realize when booking that this is a water-less experience. It took me a few minutes to figure that out after I arrived :) The entire experience was wonderful. I had both a mani & pedi. I don't think any salon has ever spent the time to take care of my hands & feet like they did at Maalou. My nails look beautiful, my feet and hands are soft and pampered, and I left feeling quite zen. What a lovely experience. read more

This is probably the most expensive nail salon in the culver city area. $95 for a gel set. Not a nice gel set at all ether. Just an avarge messy job (See pic) the nails are bumpy or curve down with a dent. I'm super disappointed. I have gotten much better gel nail sets for far less. The place is nice and clean but the seats at the table area are very uncomfortable and that's where they do the hand nail work. Two starts for how clean it is. read more

I just had my nails done (again) at Maalou and the nail technician and Mia worked with me to help decide what the best course and design for my style will work. I'll admit it's been a very long time since I treated myself to a mani/pedi. I work in pet retail/services, so never get to wear cute open-toe shoes, and always handling dog food or cleaning after dogs with heavy duty disinfectant. Finally had a day off and felt like I deserved some TLC. I looked up salons near me and Maalou came up. They were able to fit me in within 20min. I suppose Mondays might not be their busiest day. I did not know it was a waterless salon. At first it seemed odd but it ended up being awesome. I'm not picky, I do basic pedi and buffed shine mani and that was just perfect. I'm terrible with names so I apologize but I do not remember the names of the 2 ladies or the owner. But overall I'm very happy. It's walking distance from my house, so I'll be back. I went to get my nails done for the first time at this establishment on Tuesday and 4 days later, I have a broken nail and 3 others that are cracked on the sides and about to break. I went for a fill and was charged $65. Normally the price wouldn't scare me off as long as the service was great. The lady that did my nails, Mary, was very nice and they looked great when I left. When I called back this evening to let the owner know that it's only been four days and I already need my nails done again and that I would hope to get them done free of charge, she immediately got defensive and snotty. She said that no one else has ever had issues with their nails and they do not guarantee their work. It is shocking to me that number 1, you don't stand behind your work and number 2 for a business that just opened 9 months ago, you would think the customer service would be better as they would want to try to have repeat customers. I'm so thrilled I discovered Maalou! It's a beautiful space (now with a fun retail area in the front) with great light and energy. I admit I was a little skeptical about the waterless concept, but not only is it good for the environment (using less water in a drought-stricken state) and cleanliness, they're completely accurate that the water bloats the nail and causes the polish to chip quickly. Getting a mani/peni should be a chill and fun experience, and that's what it is here. The dry approach actually is wonderful. No ticklishess during the scrubbing is a good thing! And the nail polish did last a long time. I went for a month before taking it off. My wife had a bit of chipping, but they touched it up at no extra charge. This place was absolutely incredible. I got the vegan/ environmentally friendly nail polish which they warned me would come off quickly. It lasted an entire month without chipping. The water-less pedicure seemed more environmentally friendly which was a plus. The employees didn't seem rushed or stressed out and were protected with gloves and masks and the air didn't stink like solvents. They took their time and did an excellent job. What a pleasant visit to Maalou! I didn't know what to expect when walking in to a brand new salon and I sure didn't think they would take walk-ins. I just stumbled upon this salon, and wow! Awesome place! I got a pedicure and gel manicure over two weeks ago and both are still going strong. The owner, Mia, is awesome; so sweet, fun to talk to and was super meticulous when doing my manicure. They have a great selection of gel colors, I'm still in love with the light peach/pink I chose. Been going here for over a year and I love it. They are the mostly friendly people you will ever meet and they will give you their expert opinion on colors and shape of the nails. They do not do acrylic nails, which doesn't bother me because I don't like them. Instead they will help grow your natural nails out. (She is Asian with brown hair shoulder length) Firstly I don't understand why I should pay standard salon prices for a salon that doesn't have pedicure chairs. Just chairs and towels. And nice ambiance Another positive note: they did use nice scrubs and lotions and hot towels Second I found it very uncomfortable to have my pedi and mani done at the same time because of these chairs I had to turn my body and sit in an odd position (I have a bad shoulder so that may just be me) Third it is RUDE to not say hello, introduce yourself or make eye contact a SINGLE TIME! I didn't realize it's waterless which is a huge downside to me personally it's fine if you know what you're getting but I didn't realize it. Also it's super cute but it was really short staffed so idk if you could get a mani pedi at the same time without making an advanced appt. I also like the massage chairs these were cute modern non massage chairs. To me without the water and massage chairs it's just not as relaxing of a situation. It was also not cheap $28 for a pedicure. Which I could find a place nearby that's a good middle ground! read more

I just returned from getting a manicure and pedicure from Maalou after reading about it on Yelp. Maalou offers water-less nail services which is nice given our current drought. They have opi polish and vegan polish options. I called the day before for an appointment and called the day of to get an earlier time without any trouble. It is really hard to find a good nail salon and haven't been happy with the ones I have tried lately. Because of this I haven't gotten my nails done in a couple months and knew my nails needed some extra care. I got a very thorough manicure and pedicure that lasted about an hour. They used a lotion/cream thing on my toes that is used to clean my feet instead of a water bath and a butter type product that turns into a lotion. The salon is very clean inside. Everything is white, clean, very open. I'll be going back. The owner is super nice and friendly. Regular manicure and pedicure cost $50. They are open everyday except Monday. read more
