We really wanted to like this place heard about it read about it felt like it would be a special spot made. Reservations took the whole family. Then you had recently changed the things that we had liked. They had not had on the menu anymore things that were very popular in their Instagram dishes were not available and was very odd. We wanted to order a specialty drinks and maybe leave one or something or an ingredient out of the drink, and the waitress was adamant that we could only order them exactly how they were listed on the cocktail menu. No, we could just make up our own drink, even though they had a full bar with a full-time bartender. It was very odd offputting. The waitress was strange and it made the whole meal off, but probably won't go back. Food was average.

So much flavor! So fresh. It felt like a nice departure from the usual dinner options while not feeling too adventurous. My wife and I shared the most popular cheese+bread dish, Georgian salad, and kebab chicken - and it was plenty for us both. It felt good to indulge in the cheesy bread while still eating really healthy tasty food the rest of the meal. Service was professional; the restaurant spacious and not noisy even when busy. Looking forward to going back!

The place is great. It's nicely decorated with nice holiday lights set up. The staff were very friendly and happy to help if you were not familiar with Georgian food. They have iPad menus with pictures and even videos which is pretty cool. We ordered a couple of things and they were delicious! Highly recommend it to everyone.

What a great experience! I heard about this restaurant from our friends and it succeeded my expectations . We ordered Adjarian cheese pie ( Hachapuri ) ...you can compare it to grilled Halumi in a very light pastry or Greek Spanokopita , also a tomato -cucumber salad with the walnut dressing, super crunchy and good... as a main course we had Beef Hinkali... these are giant dumplings and to enjoy them fully you hold a dumpling by its button and bite at a side to drink the juice first around the minced meat ... So , it's better to ask the waiter's advice , but it's worth it The ambiance is really nice. The deserts are creative looking and tasty .

Dining at Maama by Cheese & Bread was nothing short of extraordinary. We opted for the Chef's Tasting Menu ($70 per person), and it was one of the most memorable culinary experiences we've had in Fairfield County. From start to finish, this was a beautifully choreographed feast that showcased the depth, warmth, and bold flavors of Georgian cuisine in all its glory. We began with the iconic Khachapuri Adjaruli--a showstopper. This canoe-shaped bread, bubbling with gooey sulguni cheese, butter, and egg, was served piping hot and mixed tableside. Rich, creamy, and indulgent, it was the perfect opener and truly set the tone for the meal. Next came a beautifully curated cheese and spread platter that could rival the best European boards. Featuring traditional Georgian cheeses and vibrant pkhali (vegetable and walnut pâtés) in stunning hues of beet, spinach, and eggplant, it was both visually stunning and deeply flavorful. The textures and herbs were spot-on, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. A crisp Caesar salad with grilled cheese croutons provided a refreshing contrast before more traditional fare arrived, including dumplings, and a hearty stew--all prepared with precision and seasoned to perfection. The portion sizes were generous--come hungry! The grand finale was the Napoleon dessert, and it deserves its own standing ovation. Light, layered, and topped with fresh strawberries and a dusting of powdered sugar, it was creamy, flaky, and impossibly delicate. Easily one of the best Napoleons we've ever had. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. The staff were genuinely proud to share the richness of Georgian culture and cuisine, and their hospitality enhanced the entire experience. The atmosphere was modern yet cozy, with soft lighting, tasteful decor, and an inviting ambiance that made it ideal for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. Whether you're familiar with Georgian food or discovering it for the first time, Maama delivers a rich, authentic experience that's rare to find. This is a place where food is a celebration--of tradition, flavor, and hospitality. We will absolutely be back, and I can't recommend Maama Bread and Cheese highly enough. A must-visit for adventurous eaters, food lovers, and anyone seeking something truly special in Norwalk.

Incredible food and amazing Georgian wine selection . Definitely check it out .....................................

    What I really wanted

I really hope this place makes it because Norwalk needs more diversity. However, I could see why it was empty now that I've tasted the food. I was looking for Persian or Turkish kebabs and found this place. The chicken kebabs are OK but they don't come with rice unless you skip the vegetables. The dumplings must be a cultural thing because they're just wads of dough with very little meat in them, but they're interesting. The real reason I'm here though is to talk about the $17 mushroom soup. The menu made it sound like it would be a hardy mushroom stew, thick and filling. Instead, what I got was barely the beginnings of a vegetable broth. It didn't even have a hint of the cheese I was promised. Overall, I spent $100 to get four chunks of passable chicken kebab meat. Everything else is going in the garbage. Very disappointed.

Everything was at the highest level. Very tasty dishes, service. I am very pleased that I chose this place to celebrate my birthday. I will come here again, because I really like this place.

Good experience all around at Cheese & Bread, the place makes for a fun and unique dinner date. Also, great place for a holidays dinner as the restaurant is nicely decorated with white Christmas lights, a big tree, and there's even a fire place. Highly recommend the Adjaruli (bread, egg, and cheese) which they bring out and then finish preparing right at the table, the pear soda, and the tiramasu.

I've since lost most of my wolf tendencies, or so I think. but my howl is still powerful when dusk turns to dawn. Now? I've cultivated a remarkable a diverse life for myself. I own a mule, his name is Pacchero. He's 800 lbs. I explore traditions through my mouth, my tongue, my esophagus. I try Georgian food on a Saturday at 3PM just because, why not? Hopefully Russ Westbrook and his Ninja Turtle buddies don't come fine me for the trademark steal. Oh well, I'm cultured (or so they say) and THEY can't stop me. Badageoni, in the Kisc, has a very nice interior. A bar, deep sea of tables and a nice overall darkish vibe. Right downtown, on a corner, where the greats are made. Little stick ball with Willie Mays, don't say no. Say hey, kid. I'm inexperienced in Georgian cuisine, and mildly unfamiliar but relatively familiar with their history and livelihood. I have a few Georgian acquaintances and friends. Good people. Princes, princesses from what I hear. And I recall hearing of Khinkali through these winding and never ending channels that seem to lead their way through or to me. Life. What a thing. So I got an order and some Ojakhuri as well. I feel spectacular just typing these Georgian words out. Who do I think I am? Anyways. The Ojakhuri was actually solid, tasteful BUT it seemed like something I'd rather make at home rather than order from a restaurant and that's my overall takeaway from my trip and is why I tossed 4 instead of 5 stars. However. I love dumplings. I love dumplings from every and from all cultures. I need a second go to confirm, but I believe (HOT TAKE ALERT) Khinkali are the superior form of dumpling on the planet. Yes, I did say that. I have some more ethnic dumplings to try but this has taken a big jump on the list to number 1. I've never been to Antarctica, who knows what type of dumplings the polar bears are hiding. And before you lose your minds on me, it's a joke. It is an ***** joke. I know Polar Bears aren't in Antarctica, do you think I'm that much of a bottom feeder? Geez you guys need to give me a break - take me with a grain of salt and sprinkle on some pepper. Luckily I was able to get a reservation ahead of time because the place was packed that night! I'm not too familiar with Georgian food, but many of the dishes on the menu looked so good. We decided on the mixed mushroom khinkali, thin crust megrelian khachapuri, pork mtsvadi skewer, and Mediterranean fish. The dumplings were stuffed full with mushrooms and I liked the thick dumpling skin. So different than dumplings I've had before. The flatbread was so unique topped with the pile of fresh herbs and pesto. It's a must order! The pork skewer was so juicy and flavorful. The fish was topped with a walnut sauce and my least favorite of the meal. Chito Gvrito is a perfect spot for a date night or a group meal. I came away disappointed -- nothing on the plate tasted authentic. Both the salmon mtsvadi and the chicken tabaka tasted nerfed, like the spices had been dialed way down. What came through instead was mostly acidity -- heavy lemon and salt, across every dish, with none of the depth I was expecting. It would have helped if the dill and pomegranate had actually been part of the dish rather than sitting on the side as decoration. Maybe this is just an Americanized take on Georgian cuisine, but either way, I didn't like it. The ambience didn't help either. We were seated behind the bar, where the tables were packed in. The row of people seated at the bar were a bit rowdy, and the passage was so narrow we got bumped every few minutes.

Without some mtsnili, pickled or brined veggies, something more acidic or probiotic, like pickled cabbage, fermented cucumbers, pickled green tomatoes, Jonjoli, or even Garlic, peppers, or wild herbs in vinegar,as a contrast on the plate? The dish became monotonous, heavy, and uninteresting, after a few bites. The Kazbegi Lager is very popular in Georgia, and it helped a bit, but it's not a particularly remarkable beer. Harmony and balance makes great food better. People come for the cheeseboats, the restaurant namesake, and khinkali, the classic soup dumplings. Most of the menu is meant to be shared. Perhaps best to return with 4-5 other people to properly experience it. Service was pleasant, and prompt. Waiter should probably ask if you want to take extra home. There's a lightly methane odor that is unfortunately second nature to old buildings in Hell's Kitchen. Doesn't help the food's appeal much either.

Maya reminded me of a loving auntie that was happy you came to visit her and all she wanted to do was make you smile and serve you amazing food!! AND SHE SERVED US SOME REALLY AMAZING FOOD!!!!! It has an amazing fresh essence and reminded me of being at the edge of the sea and the fresh sea spray hitting you. It was perfect with the food! *Khinkali - I really LOVE dumplings and these were OUT OF THIS WORLD! The beef and pork blend was amazingly seasoned, tender and juicy, the broth inside the dumplings was warm and tasty. I even loved that they put some tips on the menu on how to eat them like a true Georgian and I took their advice and was in dumpling heaven! *Adjaruli - TRULY LOVED the tastiness of the this cheesy, eggy "bread bowl". When Maya brought this to our table she offered to stir it for us by blending the cheese and egg on top! WOOOOWWW!! There was literal toe curling happiness every time we ripped off a piece of the yummy warm bread and dipped it into the cheese and egg blend. So satisfying total comfort food!! *Lula Kebab - OH MY GODDDD TASTY! Litearlly the best lamb kebab I have EVER had. The lamb was tender, juicy and seasoned beautifully! The wrap it was in was soft, chewy and a perfect vessel to transport that yummy lamb into your mouth. We ordered this with the mashed potatoes and they were yummy as well!! I need more Georgian food in my life!…read more My husband and I came upon this restaurant during one of our neighborhood walks. We've been on a Middle Eastern kick lately, so the restaurant caught my eye. What sealed that deal, however, was their $45 Restaurant Week menu. I'm new to Restaurant Week, so I had my reservations about the program. I feared the meals would be scaled back in size, that we would walk out still hungry. How wrong I was. We left, bellies bursting at the seams with delicious food. Every single item was a standout. Each bite elicited praise. Our drinks were phenomenal, particularly their fruit juice, which I could only describe as the drink of the gods. It came as a pitcher with a whole sliced peach. It was sweet, light, and refreshing. The peach was so sweet, almost candied. I loved it so much. The vegetables in the qartuli salata were fresh. The vinaigrette had a wonderfully nutty aftertaste. The phkhali trio were herby and fresh, with a very, very slight bitterness, almost undetectable but just there, not dissimilar to sumac. The khachapuri was crispy yet tender, the cheese filling so creamy, so gooey, so salty. I loved this dish most of all. The salmon dish paired wonderfully with the mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, and what I can only describe as a balsamic drizzle. My absolute star of the show, the ideali, was a marvel. The condensed milk frosting was so delicate and so were its layers of honey walnut sponge. I melted in my seat with each bite. It was unlike anything I've had before. It will be a dish I will long for. Oda House is a neighborhood gem. Come here, and you'll be thinking about it for a very, very long time.
