I went to this restaurant tonight and was seated & given water. The hostess and server were very polite but while we waited to order we realized that we couldn't talk to each other over the sound of all the loud patrons. The restaurant had very bad acoustics, and we had to leave without ordering anything. There was no music playing but you probably wouldn't have heard it anyway. The menu looked great and was the reason for our visit, but we won't be back. read more

My husband and I had a lovely meal here last night. I had the Shrimp Fra Diavlo. Very large shrimp cooked to perfection on thin spaghetti with a thick slightly spicy marinara. I loved it. This is, hands down, the best italian restaurant in the area. The food is consistently delicious and the service is second to none. I've ordered takeout from here during the pandemic and food was always on point. Just decided to dine in tonight and was reminded why I love this place so much. They are conscientious of their patrons, especially under our given circumstances, offering sanitizer and disinfectant wipes on a table near the entrance. My friend and I sat at the bar since there were no tables available (some were reserved and some were off limits to maintain social distancing). At the bar, we were greeted by Sean, the bartender. Sean was extremely accommodating, and very knowledgeable of their food offerings. I ordered a dirty martini, which was excellent. To start, we shared a wedge salad - the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, the bacon was perfectly crispy, and the blue cheese was creamy. For dinner I ordered (off the menu with Sean's help) veal butterflied and breaded with vinegar pepper sauce. It was outstanding. The veal was pounded thin and perfectly tender. The breading was subtle and crunchy and helped absorb the magnificent spicy sauce. The dish was accompanied by their roasted "italian potatoes", wonderfully crisp on the outside and delightfully creamy on the inside. If you're a fan of veal, I suggest you try this dish out for yourself! My friend ordered the shrimp oreganata and cleaned his plate within minutes (he's a bit of a savage). He did mention, multiple times, how much he enjoyed it. Following dinner I had maria's tiramisu, which was light and creamy, subtly sweet, and held together perfectly. You could tell this recipe took years to perfect because they nailed it. My friend had the ny style cheesecake with berries and finished that while I was about a quarter of the way through my dessert. Please keep this small, family-owned business in mind the next time you head out for dinner - you will NOT be disappointed! read more

Nope. Another place that sorely misses the mark. Nothing exceptional, with lots of other mediocre " restaurants? " to choose from in the area. Pricy, inadequate food, where once again you leave feeling taken advantage of. The atmosphere is cold, reminiscent of a funeral home. The empty tables say something, especially on a weekend night. Go somewhere else and at least, waste your money on more food quantity not quality, which is what this place lacks..quality. Nothing memorable except for the expensive check ( for nothing) and the gratitude of leaving and never going back. What has happened to good food? It certainly hasn't surfaced at this place. read more

Never been here since Mannino's and Spanish restaurant , but remembered a food review for the new MaBella. Food was as good as Mannino's for the exception that the customers and staff is not a zoo ! My family and I have eaten hear several times. I have taken friends here. And now during the pandemic we have used them for curbside pickup. I absolutely love the food. Italian food is very popular but finding truly fresh, delicious meals may not be as easy. I won't mention any competitors but you can have a simple dish like eggplant Parmesan completely ruined with burnt cheese, too much cheese, thick eggplant etc. NOT HERE, you can taste the love that goes into the preparation of every dish. If you get a chance to eat in you will love the cozy casual atmosphere. If you're looking for family take out then you must add MaBella to the menu. read more

Went here for the first time for New Years Eve. It was packed but the owner managed to get us a seating. The food is so delicious. The fried calamari (if you like it) is not to be missed. The pork chop with peppers and potatoes is excellent. We have been back with family and friends since New Years, including last night for a birthday celebration, and everybody loves their food, especially their marinara sauce! A hidden gem! We went to MaBella's for our first time. The owners, Frank and Maria welcome you with open arms. The food was delicious , with a nice wine selection well priced and dishes are family style generous portion size. Try the capellini cakes and the osso bucco and Maria's homemade Tiramisu. The food and service is excellent here. Frank knows what he is doing when it comes to Italian food and the fact that he is the one cooking it guarantees a great experience. Each dish we ordered was very good and the portions were huge-plenty of leftovers. We had the arancini (true Sicilian style-peas and meat in the middle, this came with a side of delicious vodka sauce), side of meatballs (these were very well done, light and fluffy (not overly compact, he takes extra step to use the inside doughy part of bread to use as breadcrumbs) farfalle escarole (perfectly aldente on the pasta and veggies), and spaghetti with white clam sauce (this dish is my ultimate test for an Italian restaurant - one of the best I ever had - everything was right about this dish: nice selection of small clams on half-shell, right amount of broth, not too oily/salty/garlicky, perfectly cooked aldente pasta). The interior is very clean, nice and well-kept. Bathroom door is around a corner and out of sight so it discreet and not weird. Just to top it off the background music was actually pretty good (no Enya) and at a good decibel. We will be back! read more

Ordered Spaghetti & Meatballs and a Chicken Parm dinner for take out. The favorable Newsday review made me want to check it out. The spaghetti was way under sauced and the meatballs mediocre at best. The sauce has a spice that I cannot identify that was a bit unpleasant. The wife pushed her plate to the side. The chicken wasn't bad.... Newsday ranked this next to Emilio's...... Maria and Frank are great hosts and make sure everyone is happy and everything is perfect. Go early as it gets a crowd on a Friday night. Attractive bar area to wait. Very nice wine list and if you like veal it is superb. We tried both the Veal Scallopini and the Veal Franchese, both excellent. And I took home some Spaghetti and Meatballs. This restaurant has solid everyday Italian food that does not disappoint. They are located at the end of a strip mall that is unassuming. Once you enter you feel as though you're in a classic NY Italian restaurant with the tin press ceiling and cherry wood furnishings that makes it feel familiar. This is the kind of place that I can eat at regularly and not get tired of the menu along with their daily specials. We started out with the Eggplant Rollatini that was excellent with thinly breaded eggplant and just the right amount of cheese, but the best part was the pink sauce it was served in. We were told to get the Capellini Cakes if they were a special so we did. I never had these before so I can't compare it but again they were incredibly tasty and I would definitely order them again. They were served room temperature in a marinara sauce that was very good. My biggest complaint was that both the appetizers were not hot, they were barely room temperature and the bread brought to our table was not warm so we did not touch it. If my bread is not served warm I'll pass on it every time no matter how good it is. I had the Red Snapper special that was served with Risotto (room temperature) and a buttery wine sauce with capers that made the dish. Excellent choice and I would get it again. My wife ordered the Penne ala Vodka with a side of meatballs that she really enjoyed. The meatballs were moist and tender and taste just like my grandmother made, not fried but cooked in the sauce. The Penne was cooked perfectly and the Vodka sauce was on point. I will definitely return and would highly recommend this place to any Italians that find it hard to eat Italian food anywhere but home, like me. read more

I LOVE this place. I come from an Italian family that loves to cook. I also went to culinary school and worked as a chef for a while (now I just teach) and I never feel satisfied with an Italian restaurant. I don't like going out for Italian food because it's normally disappointing. I am sooooo thrilled that MaBella is in Commack. Its consistently good. Even the side vegetables are absolutely delicious. The Calamari was so tender and not greasy. Home recipe for lasagna was perfectly spiced and cheese was delicious. Fresh lasagne noodles and meat sauce married perfectly to rest of the ingredients. The food was terrific. We ordered baked clams for an appetizer. They were meaty and well seasoned. For entrees we had the specials. My wife had the pasta with crumbled Italian sausage in a pink sauce. In a word, delicious. I had the organic chicken on top of brocolli rabe. The chicken was excellent. Crisp on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside. My only complaint is that the brocolli rabe was way too salty. I couldn't eat it. Based on how good everything else was though I'm guessing it was an accident. The owner and his wife were both there and were so nice. The service was attentive and friendly. We had a almost wonderful dinner here at this 3-week old Italian restaurant occupying the storefront formerly occupied by Cafe Mendoza and before that Manninno's. Done up in earth tones with a huge mural of a wine cellar on one wall, dark banquettes and butcher-block tables, the dining room is dark, lit by high-intensity high-hats in the pressed-tin ceiling. We endured a 30-minute wait for a table at the tiny, crowded bar on a Saturday evening but the wait time was as promised. The food was largely satisfying. Veal parm, my benchmark for Italian eateries, won't ever be topped by another restaurant: tender veal, al dente pasta and a perfect, basil-studded red sauce. My wife's chicken francese also was tender, but the sauce lacked verve and seemed little more than watered-down butter. Chocolate lava cake ala mode with Haagen Daz ice cream made for a rich finish. A glass of fruity, but uncomplicated Poggio Vignos Chianti was a fine and fairly priced accompaniment to my main. The hostess Maria (not the owner) was friendly, addressing me by my name several times over the course of the evening, but our server wasn't seen between taking our order and delivering our check and the food runner shouldn't have had to auction our dishes--at least not with just 2 covers. But my biggest complaint was the noise level with folks loudly talking, almost shouting, to each other to be heard. There's no romantic Saturday night dinner here. Perhaps another evening would be less hectic and quieter. That remains to be seen. Maria, in any case, told us she hoped we'd return. read more
