This has been my go-to store for nearly 10 years till tonight. Came in for the Brow Big Boost Gel. Never having tried it before, I asked if I could use their disposable mascara wands to sample colors. Angela kindly explained that COVID regulations changed all their sampling procedures, so I could not apply the sample to my face. When I asked what my options were if I got home and hated it/wrong shade/did not do what I was hoping... the second staff member rudely interrupted her as she began to answer, and he told me, "why are you making such a big deal out of it?! It's covid. Just buy it and stop!" I was shocked, Angela and I both stared at him in amazement. He left, Angela was able to finish helping me uninterrupted. Management really should have a talk with this guy and his appalling display of customer service and answering questions he was not even asked. After reading most of the not-so-great reviews about this store, I was really hesitant to even come here. But I was on a desperate hunt for a new foundation, so I decided to give this place a shot. I was so glad that I did. I risked it by coming here on a Saturday afternoon. Yes, it was super busy and crowded. I headed over to one of the foundation sections, where I was greeted by Adela. Without hesitation, Adela seated me right away and helped me choose the type of foundation that I was looking for. She was super helpful in describing what type of shade looked good on me and what product would suit my skin type. Not to mention that she was super friendly. There was a slight mishap with my transaction, but she and the manager repeatedly apologized for any inconvenience that it might have caused me. Brownie points for excellent customer service =). I'm sorry that all the other reviewers didn't have as good an experience as I did. Maybe they caught them on a bad day =/. But if you're needing/wanting to get some MAC makeup, try this place out. One star off for over-crowding on the weekends, but I think that you'll still be able to find what you need. There are plenty of people to help you. And look for Adela! She's awesome! read more

The staff here are simply amazing!! They are always super helpful and attentive. I never felt pressured to buy anything:) they are very knowledgable about the products and are very professional., I have been to some mac stores where in you have to a) wait for forever until someone can help you, b) look all done up so you look Ike you're going to actually buy stuff from there I have gone to their events/product launches/free makeovers and brought family members along and they were very pleased with the professionalism that the staff had. One of my favorite MAC stores in the Bay Area (don't worry Cerritos MAC you'll always be my baby). What did I like ? That I didn't have to wait an hour to get some help. Britney was the artist helping me. She was nice, and honest but not over the top like "girllll you need some help with your make up skills" I asked her to help me put together an "everyday summery palette" which she did and I loved the shades she chose for my skin tone. I also needed help with a lip liner and unlike most commissioned artists who just pick the first color that they find and try to make a sale-- Britney played around with few and picked one that worked the best. My friend and I stopped by here for her to trade her empty eyeshadows for a new one. The service was friendly; no problems, no charge. I did think it was odd that no one greeted me nor asked if I needed anything. I'm clearly a makeup wearer and helped my friend pick out her new color. It doesn't matter to me, personally, that I wasn't approached; I just think it's not ideal for their business. I remember the olden days of walking into Merle Norman or Nordstrom and the ladies fussing all over my face like it's their canvas and trying out their application skills on me for free. I heard they charge for that here (!). The times, they have a-changed! My fiance came here to get her makeup done. something to sample for our wedding. And the service was less than spectacular. They caked on her makeup on her face. I was scared to kiss her. Think "Clayface" from Batman. It gets worse. She had to purchase something for the consultation. So after charging her card, the guy leaves, WITHOUT GIVING HER THE MERCHANDISE! She's standing there wondering when she's getting her makeup. He not only left her there, he clocks out of work. the MAC Manager refuses to help her, and claims that she is stealing product from them. After a few calls to the corporate office, it takes them 3 days to "put together" the makeup bag that was not given to her. Completely disappointed and frustrating experience. It led to a week long battle of incompetent workers, and non-cooperative managers. My fiancee and I will never shop at this place again. read more

Love the makeup, but this store seriously needs makeover...SO PACKED. There are women practically clawing each others faces off to get help around here...If every toner didn't come in 50 different NC shades or have a distinctive brush for an infinite number of needs, people might actually be able to help themselves...so there's my minus one star. On the other hand, when you do get service, its actually very good. The makeup artists are very helpful in getting you just the perfect shade or type of anything (eye shadow, blush, lip gloss) and they know their stuff!! Did you know MAC doesn't have applications to work there? You have to go through a system to be an associate there--thats why they are called MAC Professionals! I have had MAC do my makeup 4 times now...and the best advice I can give you is BE SPECIFIC. They have the book of ideas if you have trouble describing things...though, I sometimes feel a little sketch right after getting my makeup done, I always am happy with it in the end. Yes, it is a tad more expensive than what you can get at a drug store or even a cheaper known brand, but this is the real deal and you can tell the quality when you use it. Reading these reviews about MAC is always interesting to me. It's either good or bad. I've always had great experiences here at MAC, okay so maybe its because I'm a familiar face who comes in with lists of things to buy and rarely do I ever leave with one item. Ladies I know its hard to come in here because its like being a fat kid in a candy store. The colors of eye shadows are entrancing and mesmerizing, the posters and merchandise stands of the newest collections are always the first place women hover towards. My best advice about coming into this store that I can give all you MAC shoppers, is know what you are looking for and try to be specific as far as a possible shade or if you are looking for a specific beauty item (blush, eyeshadow, etc.) This way the lovely make up artists can really help you narrow down to the specific color you're looking for. Also, don't rush it. I know its truly a sensory overload when you come in to this store. MUSIC BLARING, intimidating pretty girls in black, and an overcrowded room, you would think you were in a night club. But don't rush your shopping experience. The girls are much friendlier than you think. It may be the heavily packed on make up that they wear that gives off the impression of pretentiousness, but in reality they are just girls and a few boys that are in there. Another piece of advice: just because it looks good on them, doesn't mean it'll look good on you. I hear it ALL the time when I'm in there. "OOH, I wan't your eye make up; everything that you're wearing." or "OOH, I want that smokey eye." Okay ladies: we constantly want things we see on other people without realizing that we don't have the same exact features. So in other words, ask them what they think is best for you. THE OTHER HUGE ADVICE: Come on a weekday. If you come on a weekend you're asking for trouble, the make up artists are so busy of course you're not going to get the service you are looking for. There are way too many women in there coming in for one thing, who bring a group of five friends, and when that woman asks for 'foundation', her friends start needing things too. I'm actually kind of disappointed with the service here. I came on a Friday while they were doing some promotional stands for their new holiday collection. Therefore it was busy, so I do give them some slack for that. I am the type of customer that likes to find things for myself at first, but if i cannot then I'll simply ask for assistance. I asked one associate for a very specific eyeliner. She just pointed to a bin of about 20-30 unorganized eyeliner testers and said "right there" and left. Although that wasn't that helpful, I decided to take a look and find it myself, they didn't have the shade I was looking for. So I asked another associate, she said she'll have someone work on it and left. I continued to wait, and then another associate came and asked if I needed help (but not in a very friendly way, more in a way to ensure I wasn't stealing). I told him that a girl was sending someone to help me, he proceeded to ask which girl said that. Obviously the girl didn't ask anyone yet since he asked me that question. Then I told him the specific eyeliner collection and color description, he ended up grabbing the wrong color for me. I asked if I could see the other testers since this was the wrong color, there were only 2/5 shades in the collection available to test in the unorganized bin, and the eyeliner was a gift. He simply said "just tell her to return it if she doesn't like it. Keep the receipt." Really?... I was about to give up, when I decided to ask one more associate and she was FINALLY able to help me. She was courteous and asked the people she was helping if she could help me for a few moments. I told her all the specifics as I did with the others and she was finally able to tell me they did not have the shade I wanted. She was very sincere that they didn't have the product. So in conclusion..it took FOUR associates and a good 25 minutes to find some measly eyeliner that was actually out of stock. And in my previous visit on a calm day, I asked to get matched to my shade and the sales associate never came back to help me. I don't know if it's my age appearance that they do not take seriously (I'm 19), but I am a paying customer and I will now take my business to another Mac counter. This place gets 2 stars only because the last associate salvaged my experience. read more

I went to MAC looking for a new powder. I love the eyeshadows so I decided to try the make up. It was busy but I saw a lot of the consultants walking around., doing nothing. I waited in the line for a really long time. I was dressed down and not wearing any make up, obviously so they wouldn't have to take it off. No one helped me. The manager finally came by, noticing I had waited for a while, and told one of the consultants to help me because I was "desperately waiting". Really? I'm not desperate for powder. They finally sent someone to help me. While I was being helped, he continued to put lotion on my face and said my face was dry. I actually thought I hadn't put moisturizer at home so I didn't think much of it. I bought it cuz I just wanted to leave the store and figured it was the people not the product that was bad. A week of wearing powder and my face was dried out. It was red and literally broke of dryness. It wasn't my face that was dry during the consultation but the powder that was instantly drying it. If you do like MAC, don't go to this store. If you still get a consultation and the consultant blames your skin and not their product... put up a RED flag and don't waste your money. read more

I've only started shopping at MAC the last few months because I found I absolutely LOVE their Prep & Prime highlighter pen (which I would rate 5-stars!). However, whenever I walk into the store I feel completely unwelcome. It always seems "busy" and by "busy" I mean that every staff member is already helping someone and I'm left to wander the store with no acknowledgement whatsoever. Look, I already know what I want...but I can't ever just find it on the shelf. I always have to ask them to get it for me. Which would be fine if I didn't have to wait so long in a line or for someone to become available for half a second. Look, I'm faced with long lines and impatient people at my work at times too...but a little "hello, I'll be with you in just a moment" or "Is there something I can quickly grab for you?" would help, just so I know I'm not invisible. I know I shouldn't compare them to Sephora since they don't even sell MAC products, but there is ALWAYS someone there to help, even if they are busy they make sure I'm taken care of. read more

This review is for the store NOT the products. I cannot believe the consistency of terrible customer service I receive every time I come to the store. I love MAC and love the products which is why I continue to come to the store, however the associates have got to go or get a serious attitude adjustment. Every single time I come to the store, I am not greeted. Every time I ask for help it seems like a huge hassle for them to even answer my questions or get me a product. I have asked for recommendations on shades, and was told "if you want a makeover, you need to schedule it and buy at least $40 of product." I feel like saying I do not want a make over you idiot, listen to what i"m asking. I come here for the products, and the selection, not to be treated well or the service. yAAAAY for the products! I called to inquire about the cost to get my makeup done: $50 service fee! That doesn't even include product. So not worth it. I never remember them having such bad policy! Might as well take your business to Nordstrom or Macy's MAC counters. At least there, you can get your makeup done along with some product. Unless they too have changed their policy recently? I've never really enjoyed any of my experiences at this MAC store. They're always so snooty and they never seem to enjoy helping you unless you're wanting to spend an arm and a leg so they can hit their sales quota. They're even worse when you want to redeem your recycled plastics to get a free lipgloss! Obviously we shop here enough because we are bringing back empty plastics! There's no reason to be snooty when loyal customers are redeeming them. This has been my experience on more than one occasion. MAC lacks customer service. They really don't focus on their customers, and that's a shame. They have some good products but it doesn't attract me to want to award them my business. Over the years, I've noticed that I've been using less MAC and replacing my makeup with other companies that use better ingredients (paraben free, sulfate free, cruelty free, etc). Also, companies that treat their customers much better. Why shop here when you can go to the other makeup stores in the mall? Sephora is down the way and they have lots of options. If you're unhappy with their service, at least they have a rewards program and they have some kind of incentives. They're also not stingy with their samples. If all else fails, you can always shop online to skip the human interaction all together (which is sad to say). Then again, why support a company that doesn't have good service? For me, it is the Closest location that I can use my MAC Pro Discount so I try to stop by as often as possible. The staff here are always on their A game and helpful, get me in and out in minutes (I come in with a list - very prepared when refilling my kit). No complaints! read more

Every time I set foot in this store the staff completely ignores me until I manage to flag one of them down in passing or grab the attention of one while they're gossiping to each other. Store is crowded, and it feels like all the workers are ignoring you. You wait and wait, then if you are being helped they'll multitask and sometimes forget about you to help another customer. Other than that, 5 stars for makeup in general. 2 Stars for it being so busy (ALL THE TIME) and it sometimes feels like they don't have enough workers. Every time I come here to get my usual essentials; eyeliner, foundation, I find myself never being helped. I usually end up finding what I need by myself and wait in line at the register. And when they ask who helped me, I usually say, "No one." Jeez for such a big and established make up company, especially an actual MAC store, I would expect good customer service. Today, I waited in line for 15 minutes at the cashier because all the other make up artists were busy, and once I finally was able to talk to someone at the register of what I wanted, I wait another 10 minutes because she needed to help another customer who was behind me! Not to mention, rang her up before me! All I needed was some damn foundation. By the time I finally got rang up, there was a pretty lengthy line behind me. Mac Cosmetics in Valley fair has terrible floor service. I know what I need and I want to go in and out, but it seems like everyone is so busy or pretends not to see you. My boyfriend always tells me, "why won't you just go in the drawers and grab what you need?" I wish I could, if I knew where everything was. Earlier this week, I wanted to make an appointment and I was put on hold forever. I thought 15 minutes was too long, so I hung up the phone. It's been so frustrating. I only go here because it's the closest location and when I go to the Mac in Nordstoms, they don't have what I need. The service at this location is unacceptable, and needs new management. This MAC store has horrible service. I come here often because I need new eyeshadow palettes and unfortunately, the MAC counter at Nordstrom doesn't sell the refillable, individual ones. If I need anything else, like foundation, brushes, or blushes, ill go to the MAC counter. Except for a few, most of the employees here are very stuck-up. They think they're all that and a bag of chips. If you look broke, money-wise and/or face-wise, they won't help you. I once came here looking for some bronzer. A guy helped me and I ended up looking like an oompa loompa. Another time, I asked a girl for a full coverage foundation and I ended up looking like a cake with extra frosting on the side. Went in today, and 4 employees were making fun of a foreigner who was clearly a little slow (when she couldn't hear) , right in front of me. I have worked in retail plenty of times, never in my life would I degrade an innocent customer like that in front of of other customers. That is disgusting. I find that A LOT (not all) of MAC employees are similar in that they are unapproachable which is a real deal breaker for customer service. They walk around with their nose in the air like they're the shit, when they probably only have a high school diploma as far as actual education goes. They are boderline rude to customers who don't look like their "in". It's like every time I go to a counter or store I'm at a high school. Except theres no dress code, and all the women are past their prime child bearing years. They get two stars because they sell good make-up. Depending on what you buy, it can get pricey. read more

Why 1 star now??? Well, I spent over $100 for a gift card a few days ago. The women that help me (African American gal, and as quoted by my husband "Sasquatch with boobs") was really rude! I am a loyal customer who is always nice to the MA's (considering I know how the makeup sales world is like). And this gal was really rude. Her attitude and body gesture (as if I was wasting her time). I don't appreciate that, especially when I'm spending tons of money at "your" store. If you don't look like a model or treat them like they're models, why would you either bother with makeup you ugly cow? Okay yes, I'm especially pissed because this really snooty woman who went through the trouble of finding me a lipstick to match the discontinued color actually gave me the wrong color at check out! I seriously think she did it on purpose (maybe after finding it was out of stock and wanting a sale anyway?) because her whole demeanor changed and she didn't speak or even make eye contact at the register, like she knew she was doing me wrong and thought she could get away with it. This is my go-to place for SLIGHTLY cheaper cosmetics. If I don't want to pay 23$ for the automatic eyeliner by Lancome, I come to MAC for the $14 one! Or like yesterday, when I wanted an eyeshadow at Sephora by Urban Decay, I realized MAC is slightly cheaper and their packaging is cuter. I ended up getting 3 eyeshadows at Mac! I love how creamy some of their pressed eyeshadows are and they go on so smoothly. The matte ones aren't too great, but the other finishes are awesome. I now regret ever getting Lancome eyeshadows - they kinda just dust off and don't apply evenly. I'm a late MAC starter compared to everyone else, but I never liked going to department store makeup counters. I've never been to a real MAC store until this one at Valley Fair. The people who work here are nice.. until you want to exchange something. Hey at least it wasn't a return. I've been addicted since my first visit. Since I live in SF I can only come about once a week, and every week I must get at least one eyeshadow. If I can't make it out to SJ, then the Nordstrom counter it is. ...So bad. This is my first review, and it's going to be a bad one, sad to say. Firstly can I say that I am extremely easy to please, am satisfied with almost everything I experience, giving almost everyone the benefit of the doubt if there's a ever a fudge-up? Okay, so to begin... my girlfriends and I decided to treat ourselves and get our makeup done at MAC before going out in Santana Row. We make our appointment, and show up. A girl tells us to go ahead and sit in an empty chair and someone will be right with us. My friend gets started fairly quickly, while two of us sit in the chairs and wait... for maybe 35-45 mins., while I see employees walking around and chatting. We were going to walk away, when someone finally comes and admits they dropped the ball. With that all is forgiven. They were very apologetic, things got crazy, etc. Ok, fine. We get set up, two of us have really nice girls. Can I give a shout out to GILDA who came from the San Ramon store? You were wonderful and so sweet. She did the bulk of my makeup, but didn't get to finish me up because she had to clock out for the day. So when my friend was finished with her terrible employee, she finished me up as well. I was overhearing this certain employee talk to my friend while she was doing her makeup, and my friend was considering putting eyelashes on, and the employee pretty much insulted her and said that she shouldn't get the lashes. Does that make any sense at all? To push a customer to NOT buy something? Also before Gilda left she told the other employee what I had wanted in terms of lips and what kind of lashes. She put on the lashes (which promptly began to fall off after an hour) and worked on my lips. Gilda and I talked about getting a matte lipstick, in a pinkish, nude color. I'm not familiar with too many MAC products, but Gilda assured me they had a bunch of matte lipsticks. So then the other terrible employee started to put this lip gloss on me, which was like a nude color. I told her that I wanted a matte lipstick. She then proceeded to tell me that this lip gloss is matte without a shimmer, but is shiny. Does she even know what a matte lipstick is?? As she was putting it on me I told her I was looking for something else, but it seemed like she was too lazy to remove the gloss and look for another product. x_x So we were all finished up, we had chosen the products we wanted to purchase. I was deciding between an eyeshadow brush or a mascara, and that same employee pretty much berated me for choosing one over the other. It was really the attitude in which she spoke that was very irritating. The person that rang me up asked who helped me, and so of course I mentioned Gilda who did everything on me except for lashes and lips, and that the other girl had finished me up. And then I see the girl come up and push to give the commission all to HERSELF. I had overheard this while walking away with my purchases, and I wish I had been back there to correct her. Her behavior really bothered me. Besides that I really enjoyed the makeup Gilda put on me, and I have been really happy with the products I bought, but the customer service of this one particular girl (I forget her name, but she had seashells in her hair) really turned me off, and I will never go to the same location again. read more

ppl who work here don't help much. I don't like this store. Sephora is better. People who work here think they are some kind of artists whose work for some big fashion designer in Paris, Milan. this place would normally get 5 stars since I am an avid MAC user. I developed my addiction at the tender age of 15 when I received my first MAC makeover, ever since I have spent a lot of my hard earned cash at many of their numerous establishments. During my first year of college I was offered a position in a Macy's location MAC store but chose to pursue something that actually supported my educational goals. There is a certain attitude level those that work at MAC tend to have and it is something that people either learn to deal with or hate...either way the product keeps people coming back. I personally know a few MAC employees and they are not focused on making eeryone feel good or important when they are working, this sounds harsh but it is what it is. I NEVER repeat NEVER come to MAC looking for awesome customer service, to tell the truth the inattentiveness and snotty attitude of most MAC employees is something I have grown used to, However, the people here seemed to be more inattentive then usual. I shop on my own and know their products well enough to find exactly what I want on my own. For others who are looking for a more interactive experience this is not the place to go. apparently from what I heard Nordstrom is better in this respect...I still come to this one, it is convenient for me. The artistic abiliy of two of the female employees was far from impressive from what I seen in the 35 minutes of my carousing...I am used to MAC employees being pretty well equipped in makeup application but the eyeshadow skills of the two girls I seen in action were more than lacking. Two girls were asking for certain color palettes to be incorporated into their smokey eye look for the night and, in my opinion, did not get what they were asking for...but they both only wanted to purchase one eyeshadow so the employees may have slacked off due to the small commision theyd receive. When I come to MAC I am usually not there for one item, I am always guaranteed to drop a bill at least here, it is not cheap so it is easy. So whoever decides to notice I am done picking my own things out is the one that will get commision off of me. Be prepared to spend, and if you are only looking to drop 15 dollars don't expect stellar service, this sounds bad and I know we as cutomers belive tat the customer is always right but if you shop here just drop that expectation. Money talks especially when commision is integrated into a persons pay scale. So in short, innatentive service but I personally like that, small but open enough to easily navigate, less then expected artistry skills (though it may have been an off day) and you will definitely spend here... all in all Im ok with this place but it is a personal preference. I've gotten my makeup done here many times already and the MUAs were so incredibly rude! Just to ask to change the lip color or add a bit more shadow, they show so much attitude. I just feel like telling her off and storming out. And they're always rushing when they're doing makeup, it's ridiculous. This place is the worst. Service is absolute crap. I will no longer bother coming here. Last week I went in to buy a lipstick. I already knew what I wanted so I stood in line and waited behind one other person. And waited. A sales rep came to help the woman in front of me who seemed to have a lot of questions. The sales rep seemed to give her her undivided attention, which started irritating me because I felt ignored but I tried to be understanding. What really grated my nerves however was the fact that there were a few other sales reps who were wandering around even though there was a register open. Finally the lady notices me and asks me what I need. I tell her and she disappears to get it for me, or so I assumed. But then she returns and turns her attention back to the woman in front of me. Meanwhile another sales rep steps behind the second register and seeing that I was being "helped," motions for the person behind me to step forward. By this point there was a line of maybe three others behind me. Guess what, all of those people bought their stuff and left and I was STILL standing in the same spot. An entire 15 minutes in line in plain view of both sales reps. So before I could cause a scene I just turned around and walked out. The worst part is this is in line with the poor service I've received here time and time again. Unless there's like one other customer in the store, prepare to wait forever with no one even looking your way. Won't be returning. read more

You really have to fight to get an appointment for a makeover here- but trust me it is worth it! I went here last Friday to get my makeup done for some photos and my artist did an amazing job! She gave me the exact makeover I wanted and was not pushy at all when it came to buying the products. Additionally, she was excellent at explaining the techniques and products she was using on me. To top it off MAC has the BEST products! Love their lipsticks, eyeshadows, and mascara! Also, if you turn in 6 empty plastic cases they give you a free lipstick, eyeshadow, or lipliner- very cool! #mac4lyfe read more
