Just got back from lunch at Macodos and was not impressed at all. Being a former manager of the old Spanky's (same ownership) downtown, I was really looking forward to a killer sandwich like I used to make. The place is brand new and was not busy at all. Cool decor and music memorabilia decorated the walls. The music was very loud where we were seated in the back. While most of the sandwiches were the same the names have changed. (I guess to protect the innocent!) I ordered a beer mug margarita on the rocks. After 10 minutes the waitress came back and told me they didn't have any thawed sour mix. What decent bar uses frozen sour mix?!? I ordered the Babe Ruth which is a warm sammy with chips. After another long wait, my sandwich was brought out. (Again, the place was almost empty) The meat was cold and the croissant was not very toasted as it should be. The chips came in a Ruffles bag and were just that. Ruffles. Not at all as tasty as the chips we served at Spanky's when it was still in business. The waitress was polite but seemed as though she was not too familiar with the menu and inexperienced. I left hungry. Very disappointed and will not be back. The only reason for two stars was because the server was friendly and polite. read more

There are no employees? Well not exactly, there is one waiter, one bartender, one cook(probably the manager). I've visited this restaurant a couple times with always the same result. I wait at the front as directed by the signs, and I have never been served(15-20mns of wait each visit) I always see 10+ people come in and wait and then leave because they aren't being served. read more

People keep dragging me here, and the result is the same each time, they mess up my order, give me attitude because I want what I actually ordered, I end up with some other sub-par abomination. Once I ordered a hot sandwich and it was still frozen inside! Why was their meat frozen?! The place is filthy, they make no effort to clear tables after people leave. One time I had multiple waitresses using the table beside me to drop all the dishes from other sections rather than taking them to the kitchen, and they just sat there. Eh. This place was not very good. The menu was humungous, which is never a good sign. There were just pages and pages of things to order so I imagined that the quality couldn't have been that good. My roommates and I ordered an appetizer of fried pickles and they were ok. The waitress seemed to be all over the place and not really sure as to what she was supposed to be doing, but she didn't look new. My roommate ordered some type of chicken parmesan which he thought was horrible, especially the cheese and pasta. I ordered some type of taco which chicken. The chicken was decent but some of the tacos were filled with toppings and then the others weren't. My other roommate ordered a burger and he was sick by the time we go back home. My final complaint is a petty one, but the windows don't even have shades. As the sun sets around dinner time or a little later (especially in the summer) you would think there would be shades to block the sun. We had to ask to move tables because we couldn't see anything due to the direct light. The waitress understood and agreed, so I'm not sure why she hasn't recommended shades to her manager. 2/5 won't be going back. read more

I was accompanied by a first grader. The hostess led us first to seats in the bar. I told her I didn't want to be near the bar & requested a change, at which point she took us to a table across from the bar. Again requested a change, & was finally taken to the family dining section...& put in the booth closest to the bar! There were no sweeteners for tea at our table. I borrowed from another table. Restroom was out of towels & tp. The only reason this isn't a 1 star rating is our server was OK, the wings were hot when they arrived, & my son enjoyed his pb&j & banana. Hoping this is a one-off. Macado's seems to be the staple type of restaurant in every college town and this one doesn't disappoint. The menu is extensive....probably too extensive as by the time you have read through it you forgot which sandwich you wanted to order and it was three pages back! I was part of a large group that came in last Saturday, around 5 pm. Our server was a young, tall guy with glasses who seemed kind of overwhelmed just taking our drink orders, he didn't seem to have any kind of organizational skills and people were getting a little frustrated and we had one guy with us who was obnoxious so he may have rattled the young guy. Anyway, the drinks came out randomly and after a long wait, and many of them were wrong, but hey, we got them. We had probably been in the restaurant 45 minutes before the young guy even thought about taking a food order, we had to remind him a few times we intended to eat. Then an angel rescued us and her name is Megan. Megan is extremely friendly with a terrific smile and awesome disposition who happens to be excellent at her job. She got the food orders moving, drink refills going and assisted the young guy (bailed him out actually because he was sinking fast) and got us on track. I had a roast beef sandwich with coleslaw and provolone on it (I can't remember the name of it, but it started with an R) and it was great, I loved the sauce that was on it and the rye bread was excellent. The beers were cold, the wings were good, the nachos were great and the night was fun. Lots of interesting stuff to look at in the restaurant. The obnoxious guy in our group drank too much and got a little loud so we apologize for that. I did hear the overwhelmed waiter mumble "drink up, idiot" as he walked away from him at one point but he was right, the guy was an idiot. This was our first time here and I had no idea that we had such a neat place here in the Burg! I really loved the atmosphere here and I think that our kids will really enjoy it also. The menu is huge but not confusing and they have a little something for everyone. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and the food came out quickly and correctly! My husband got the Macado's Club and I had a make your own. Both were delicious. For appetizers we ordered the Fried Pickle Spears and Chips, Dips, and Things which were also both amazing! I went to this establishment for supper this evening. I sit at the bar and ask what the specials are. I'm told there is a deal on pints... I order a pint. It comes out extra foamy. I had an ~ok hot dog and order a rum and coke to wash it down. When I get my bill I am shocked to see the pint (which I was told was on special!) was full price. I would never have ordered this gross tasting beer if I would've known it was full price. I was tricked. Girlfriend and I are vacationing at a nearby cottage and after our 5 mile hike at Shenandoah, we got our meal delivered. We got the Mac n Cheese burger, Boneless wings, Totchos and Southwestern Quesadilla. The burger blows Red Robin burgers out the water! I was thoroughly impressed by the price, size, and taste! The Totchos were a solid 8.5/10. Honey BBQ wings were miles better than BWW and way cheaper. The quesadilla was bussin as well. Overall its a 9/10 for me, amazing job Macado's! I always have a good time at Macado's. They offer something for everyone (although I recommend some type of meat between bread, or tacos). Their burgers are awesome and I also recommend the Julius Caesar sandwich and chicken ranch tacos. I also love their fries and potato salad. Schooners for $8-9 and good happy hour deals but reasonable prices all around. Macado's is also one of few sit down restaurants in the Burg open until midnight during the week (that's not primarily a bar). A few cons: The service can be a bit slow, especially when bringing drinks, but the staff is friendly and I know the bar is busy. They also continue to play different music over the loudspeakers when they have a band which is pretty unpleasant. read more

The service was absolutely terrible. I came on a Sunday night and it was not crowded. We ordered a pitcher of beer and watched it get warm on the bar for 15 minutes. We then ordered our food, which took an additional 45 minutes. There were multiple tables that had not been bused for the entirety of our meal. All of the food came out at different times, with some items being cold. To top it off, we waited 30 minutes to pay our bill. I did not see our waiter for 20 minutes. The music was also terrible, I have no clue what type of atmosphere they are going for. I will never go back. I feel as if my time has been a robbed from me. Ordered cheese fries for an appetizer, quesadilla and boneless wings. Took about 30 minutes to get fries. My quesadilla came soon after. Waitress said it will be 7 more minutes for the wings. 15 min went by. She then came by and said there was a mix up in kitchen. We said cancel it. I was finished eating. Every time I've been here the food has been good and their wings are pretty decent. But more than once I have waited for over 5 minutes to get seated when they are not busy. I've only waited that long to see how long it would take someone to notice me and my friends. Most times I actually have to go up to a bar tender to let them know I want to be seated. The other time we got seated and didn't get a waiter/waitress. 10 minutes later we had to flag a waitress down to tell her nobody had come get out drink orders or asked if we were being served. They either need to train their staff or hire more people because it is ridiculous. If it wasn't for the food being good every time I've been there I would give this place 1 star. read more

Happy to report from a parents perspective that Macado's has a HUGE kids menu for them to select from! My kids ordered the chicken fingers & quesadilla. Both came with a Kids drink (in a fun little plastic cup with lid and a bendy straw) and a choice of side (one got a banana and other a fruit cup). I have to also give them props from a parents perspective for having "special" hexagonal crayons that don't roll off the table easily! Yay! Thank you! Just having a focus on little details like this as a parent is HUGE in making our meal enjoyable! The atmosphere was great - not very loud & lots of seating and tons of neat things to look at in the dining area. Parking lot was very limited on spaces. My husband and I both enjoyed our meals - his was a buffalo chicken wrap and mine was the classic Reuben sandwich with corned beef. Both were very filling and delicious. Downfall is fries are not a standard side dish option (chips, potato salad, etc but not fries). Fries were an extra $2 (wow!) per entree if you wanted to sub out. We opted instead to get a basket of fries to share at the table for just over $4. It wasn't that many fries for the price so that was disappointing, however they were hot and fresh and delicious (and are crinkle cut which is our favorite!)! Overall, really great experience! I had high expectations because I had been to the one in Blacksburg! We went on a saturday mid afternoon and it was sort of slow inside. Our server was friendly but didn't even mention to us what the happy hour specials were so i ordered a drink and paid more then i would have seen that a drink i like was on special. Food came and was fine but we weren't checked on once between the time we ordered and the time that we got our food. Just seemed a bit odd coming from someone who used to be a server that she didn't even come back to see if we needed drinks etc. Okay experience but wasn't entirely impressed may come back but not sure. read more

We had a company event yesterday for a table of 9 and it took almost an hour for our food to arrive and the waiter never showed up with the bill to check out so we had to track him down. Who has time at lunch to wait an hour for food? Food is decent but overshadowed by slow service. I even ordered take out and it took 20 minutes for someone to wait on me to check out. I have a medical condition where I get claustrophobic when I wear a mask for long periods of time there was a woman working who told me if I couldn't wear it then I had to wait outside in the cold. Yesterday We walked in around 8:30 and they closed at 11 and we were met with instant attitude by the host. We were a party of 13 for a graduation dinner, we expected a wait because of how large our party and that was fine but the restaurant looked almost completely cleared out. We had 3 elderly people with us and the host asked if we were okay with sitting at a high top table, we told her we would try but if it didn't work for the 3 elderly people we had with is we would need some where else to sit. She rolled her eyes at that and said well this is all we have it's the best we can do I don't know what to tell you. Even though almost the entire restaurant was empty. When we first walked in and told her we had a party of 13 she rolled her eyes then too and proceeded to say " it's gonna be a minute" with an attitude and didn't say anything back to us for at least 10-15 minutes. I totally understand being stressed about seating a large party like that but the attitude was unnecessary. We probably waited 15-20 mins to be seated- reasonable wait time. The host was wearing space buns and had blonde hair. Understandably our food would take awhile to come out due to how much food the kitchen would be making for us but we most definitely didn't expect to be waiting until almost 10:30 for our food. We had called ahead and it was said that they didn't take call ahead seating. We waited an hour an a half for seating as 4 tables of 8 people showed up and got instantly seated. By this time we were hungry and tired of standing, so ended up splitting our group up. When it came to ordering food and drinks our waitress didn't show up for a good five minutes. Granted, I know if a restaurant was busy it would take a little longer, but it was not busy whatsoever. Our drinks took more than 15 minutes to come out. I had finished my drink before we even ordered food. When we did end up ordering, I ordered an appetizer and wings. Our food did not come out for over 30 minutes. I've worked at a wing restaurant for 3 years, and I know even on the busiest nights wings come out in a maximum 15 minutes. Our appetizer came out with the entree, and all of the wings we ordered were cold and we got the wrong sauce for five of the wings (not a big deal). Called over the host to ask for a manager and tell him our problem and his response was, "I don't know I don't cook the food". Not professional. Other than that the food was okay, but service was extremely sub-par. The only good things I have to say about this place is that when our waitress forgot our drink, she gave one on the house and manager did end up taking wings off the tab. My brother and sister in law ordered beef quesadillas, while i ordered the Big Daddy sandwich with a side order of fries. The food was amazing. I can not believe how good it was. Macado's is 1 of our favorite places to eat in Harrisonburg. It's also the place we take out of town guests and have held group meetings there as well. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and usually very efficient (sometimes the kitchen does get backed up). lf you tell them you're there for a quick bite, they will speed things up, when in the mood for a more leisurely paced meal, they will accommodate. They usually are good about coming back to see if everything is alright. lf you can't find it at Macado's it doesn't exist! The menu is huge and l've never had a bad meal. Being allergic to the preservatives found in most of the premade sides is a problem with me, not here, it's all fresh. Love their coleslaw and their prices. read more

I will not be back. I ate here with my father. We ordered an appetizer, soft pretzels, tortilla chip, and waved chips. They were suppose to come with onion dip, salsa, and ranch. It was brought out with our salads, not before. It also didn't have any of the sauces with it. He ordered lasagna and i ordered 7 hot bbq butterflied shrimp. The shrimp consisted of bbq sauce and texas pete mixed together. They were terrible. His lasagna wasn't as good as mom's homemade. I tasted the salsa when it finally came. It had cinnamon in it. Yes cinnamon. How do i know? I'm highly allergic. The waitress assured me that there wasn't any cinnamon in it. Sure, tell that to the welts on my face forming. Not to mention the terrible service. The waitress copped an attitude with me when I asked if there was cinnamon in anything I ordered. By that time my face was swollen. The bill came to $44 plus tax and tip. For 2 people. This incident was awhile ago, but I'm still ticked off over it. I stopped into this place with my brother and a friend. It took the "host", a snobby JMU brat 15 minutes to greet us and when he does, all he says is, "We close in 10 minutes." My brother asked if we could still order food. This brat says again, "We close in ten minutes whether you order food or not." My brother has been in the Army for 11 years, so he's pretty desensitized to rude people. However, I'm not. I told this self entitled brat that he didn't have to be rude and it went downhill from there. It ended with him asking me if I wanted to "see what he'd do to me" and me being my lovely self tell him yes and to step out into the parking lot. I'm a 5'2 female, but I have years of boxing under my belt so I was all for a trip outside with him. Once I said this he starts telling a coworker to call 911 and my friend starts pulling me outside to the car. Bottom line, I wouldn't bother with this place. It's over priced, the food is subpar, and the service....well, you can see how that is lol. Just a bunch of self entitled college brats who aren't used to anyone bucking back to them. Also, before anyone thinks I'm a Karen, I'm only 22. I also didn't want the manager, I wanted him to step outside and "show me what he'd do to me" lol. We've been here 4 times now and have had great experiences except only once. Our waiter was a complete jerk and so rude. He was not cut out for being a waiter. He didn't even tell us his name. This was a Sunday night and it wasn't busy at all. It took almost 3 HOURS from the time we were seated with him until the manager finally refunded all us because he was terrible. You better go here really focused! The menu selection is HUGE and you will find yourself pouring over it again and again drooling trying to make the "perfect" choice. There is something for everyone on this menu. All 3 in my party ordered something different and we all loved our choices.
