I remember Macayo's being a decent Mexican restaurant when I was younger, but it's clear that this place will not be around much longer. I checked in on yelp and they offered a cheese crisp. I'm really glad that it was complementary and I didn't have to pay for it because it was so greasy and the cheese might've been plastic lol. I got the Carnitas Chimichanga and immediately I noticed how dry the meat was and it was very much lacking flavor. It only has a three star rating and against my greater judgment, a girlfriend really wanted it. I would have preferred Taco Bell over this. Tried micaiah's out again for their something number anniversary . This took place this past Wednesday where they offered 77 cent crispy tacos which were delicious. I ordered two shredded chicken and two of the shredded beef. The promotion was for crispy tacos, with the option of shredded beef shredded chicken, and I believe pork. The the shredded chicken tacos were very full flavor versus the shredded beef tacos lacked flavor. anyone who's trying macayo's for the first time or trying their tacos for the first time. That is what I would recommend the shredded chicken tacos over the shredded beef tacos. I sat at the bar, the service from the server at the bar was great. He was very attentive and was very friendly. The Ambiance was busy at the time of day that I went. Then again it could have been because of the special that they were running, but it is also family style. Been to a lot of Mexican Food restaurants, and this I have never had a taco or a tostada crack and fall apart. Never had a bad service the wait staff are always pleasant, roomed and knowledgeable about the menu. Een with the wood floor, the noise level is not to high, which is great. The nachos were amazing I could of ate them all to myself, everything was fresh and chicken was shredded and fresh. I had ice tea and it was so good. I ordered a burrito but was so full from the nachos. The burrito was ok but their wasn't much meat so I was disappointed about that. I would come back for the nachos and tea. I don't know why this place has only three stars. I've eaten here off and on over twenty three years and always enjoy the experience. The gentleman that served us today (very tall) was great. Just one thing was kind of funny, and may just be because of my ignorance. I asked if they could make the Baja Grande Chimicganga with green chili stew and he said no. He offered me the green chili burro, Baja style (covered in a delicious cheese sauce), then asked if I wanted it deep-fried. I always thought that a Chimicganga was just a deep-fried burro... Whatever. It was frickin delicious. The green chili stew was tender and tasty. That cheese sauce needs to come in a glass with a straw. I could drink it all day. I honestly don't remember this from previous visits, but their refried beans are awesome. I can honestly say I think these are the best beans I've ever had. Super creamy consistency with great flavor. When I checked in on yelp there was a coupon for a free cheese crisp. I normally would not order a cheese crisp because they're not usually very good at other places I have tried them, but theirs is pretty good. It's very very thin, light, and crispy. I was pleasantly surprised. Free food always tastes better though... Great service. A meal that was much better than I was expecting, and great atmosphere. This was a 5 star experience. read more

Thursday evening around 730pm, we walk in and it's like a ghost town. Maybe two parties towards the left, in the back are eating. I see no hostess. No workers. After about a good 5 minute wait, maybe more because we were contemplating leaving, someone from the back kitchen area comes rushing out. "For two? Bar ok?" Sure.... We sit down, get chips and our sodas quickly. The chips were disgusting because they tasted burnt. But we all know if you don't change the oil, your chips will be burnt. We order our food. 3 chicken tacos and a chicken quesadilla that came with a side of beans and rice. About 15 mins later our food comes out. The beans and rice are STONE COLD, the chicken quesadilla is floating in OIL. And I don't mean oil from the cheese, it was wet and glistening from all the oil they cooked the tortilla in. I had to use a napkin to blot the excessive off. Photos below are from napkin 3-4, so can you imagine what the first couple napkins looked like? I didn't send it back because I don't trust what they'd do back there knowing I wasn't happy. Suggestion to the restaurant: if you don't want to be open late, close. I literally feel like you took my hard earned money and what I got was worse than Taco Bell. That is not an exaggeration either. Do better or again, change your hours and close up shop. I've been a loyal customer at Macayo's frequently bringing my family to enjoy their appetizers, especially the mini chimichangas that my kids loved. However, I'm deeply disappointed by the recent menu changes and price hikes. They've removed popular appetizers like the $8 or $10 mini chimichangas, which made dining there affordable and enjoyable for families. Now, they've turned a smaller portion of mini chimichangas into a $17 meal with beans and rice--items many people don't even prefer. To add insult to injury, charging $3.50 for a small side of jalapeño cream cheese is unreasonable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]These changes take away the fun of dining at Macayo's where parents could enjoy a meal and a margarita while treating their kids to something simple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Instead of improving their menu, they've made it more expensive and less appealing. This level of greed alienates loyal customers and takes away what made this restaurant special. A business thrives when it values its customers. Instead of removing beloved menu items and overpricing mediocre replacements, Macayo's should consider bringing back the affordable options that made it a go-to for families. Sadly, they've lost my weekly visits over these disappointing changes. As my kids will not eat beans and rice so these appetizers were perfect. read more

I was worried after reading the recent reviews here, but we had a birthday to celebrate and the birthday boy loves this place. We were seated right away and our server took our orders quickly without rushing us, and was friendly and genuine. He also picked up on the fact it was Bob's birthday and made sure we were well attended to. The food came out quickly and everyone had more than they could eat, but it was enjoyable. Marcos, our server, made sure to get Bob a birthday dessert, and even got the other guests to sing along. He really helped to make our meal special. I wasn't sure what to expect but was definitely hoping for better food and service. However we received neither unfortunately. The service was pretty slow most of the time and we had to ask several times for the basic essentials like napkins and silverware which should be provided when we sit down. We eventually got those items after we got our food. The food was also not good all the way around. From the chips and salsa to the main courses everything was very subpar and lacked any decent flavor, other than a lot of salt. The chips were oily and seemed almost not fully cooked. The salsa was incredibly spicy and almost inedible, at least for me. I asked for a milder salsa and the server looked at me like I was crazy, then stated that is the mildest salsa they have. The two chicken enchiladas I got were drowned in red sauce, very soggy and salty. My boyfriend seemed to like his dish. Overall we won't be back. read more

We went to the one in Surprise for happy hour a couple weeks ago while my daughter was visiting from Austria. The service was absolutely terrible. My friend got tired of waiting for our waitress and went up to the bar and got ignored there as well. Waitress spilled drinks on her while we were there. I have no need to ever go back there. We decided to go to Macayo's for dinner on my birthday, this past Monday. It was about 4:30 when we arrived, and no one was working the front desk, which seems to be fairly common. In the past, we have always been told that you could seat yourself in the bar so that's what we did. We saw one server taking orders, but she did not acknowledge us. After several minutes a male server came over to our table with chips and salsa and told us that it would be a while before we were served. He said that "they normally seat people in the bar, but we just decided to seat ourselves and now we have overwhelmed the server." He was quite rude and at that point we got up and left. read more

Well this was my first time at this restaurant. Let me tell you, I am so happy and full. First of all the service was fantastic, but it's no comparison to the food! They have amazing summer "aguas frescas" with or without alcohol. I originally ordered a watermelon with vodka but sadly they didn't have any more, so I opted for option 2. Yep strawberry with vodka. Although I was sad there was no watermelon, strawberry was pretty good. I ordered the steak ordered medium-rare and it was topped with cheese and spinach. It came with rice and a choice of black or refried beans. I choose black beans. Everything was so good!!! I could almost picture my abuelita cooking in the background. And yes! Yelp check in gave us a nice cheese crisp. It was soooo good but we were a bit full from our plates, we ended up asking for a to go box because plates are pretty filling.
