This venue has pleanty of free parking and indoor seating. Upon entry, the hostess was welcoming. The dining area is rather large. The decor is very colorful and vibrant. The dining area is kept clean. The waitstaff was very attentive and professional. We ordered, Fajitas de Macayo, Grilled Shrimp Tacos and Small Plate Nachos Supreme (not small. Can be shared). Stopped in on a whim while driving by. We have been long time customers of Macayos since getting married many years ago, however we live in Gilbert and have no locations near us. We sat in the bar, Sonny greeted us with a smile and had awesome service. We ordered both a regular and wildberry margarita equally delicious. Chips and salsa of course were amazing. My husband order the Fajita bowl and I ordered the Baja Chicken Burrito and both were delightful. Sonny was attentive while taking care of everyone. I recently tried once again to place a takeout order and, once again, nobody answered the phone. Someone named Bob responded to my review and many others with mostly canned responses and requests the reviewer reach out to him. I did that about 10 days ago but never heard from him. Chips and salsa were normal, taco salad was great. Chimichanga was ok, but there were a few large chunks of unshredded chicken inside. The server basically forgot us after the food and did not refill my water, but otherwise it was fine. The place looks nice and casual. read more

So, I am one of those people that never writes reviews. but this restaurant deserves a warning and an inspection. I use to eat here all the time it was amazing five years ago. every so often I think I will try it again and see if it has gotten better. NOPE it actually has gotten worse. 1. Ordered carry out. Chicken Fiesta Salad. Did not come in a shell, did not have any red pepper or Pico de Gallo. However, the most egregious part of this salad order was that there was a total of 2 oz of chicken on it. Yes, I weighed it on my kitchen scale because I was shocked at how little chicken was on this salad. For the price of $14.99 I would certainly expect better. I love it. I think it's perfectly authentic. Great service. View of the golf course. The menu is expansive and food quality is great. Service is good too. To the management: I apologize as I do not remember his name but the African American waiter was the best waiter I've very met. He will and should be management one day. Never seen someone as attentive as him, even helping others not assigned to him. I wish him the best of luck and would like to see him appointed manager of this establishment. DONT COME HERE! Unless you want to get sick. Snapped these couple pictures while the bartender was trying to figure out a "smell" behind the bar. Gross, gross, gross!! First off, a bartender should never have to figure out what "smell" is. I was there with a girlfriend, we each got a margarita that was made over that well and made with the ice below it, as soon as we saw this we were out. I threw a $20 on the bar and we left. In case you can't tell from the picture, that's at least an inch of mold under both sides of the bar well. If there's that much mold in a place so open, I don't want to know what the kitchen is like. read more

First of all, I'm upset I didn't use my free cheese crisp from the handy dandy Yelp Check-in. I came by myself and ordered the two chalupa lunch special so I figured I'd save it for next time when I come with more people... turns out there's really no need for a 'next time' because this was a total bust. I came here on recommendation from my aunt, and wound up shocked as to what she saw in this place. Not that I had a terrible experience- the service was just fine and whatever, the food was just a total miss for me. I'm a huge chips and salsa guy, so I'm always looking good place to get my fix... not here. The chips were nice and light and airy, but the salsa almost tasted slightly fermented. That's probably dramatic, but it just had very little flavor, and that flavor was no bueno. Like I said, I went with the 2 chalupa lunch special, and that was also a total bust. The chalupas had 0 flavor, and the met literally tasted like it was boiled. Rice and beans also no flavor. NO FLAVOR ALL ACROSS THE BOARD. Stopped by to have lunch with my sister today. We decided to sit in the bar area. I have to tell you, the bartender/server was incredibly amazing. His name was Sonny. He was so pleasant and energetic when it came to assuring we had everything needed for our lunch, extra napkins and refills of drinks. Not once did we have to grab his attention because he was always there to provide great service. Sonny is the true meaning of good quality customer service. HORRIBLE customer service. I have never been treated so badly, ever. I am never one to complain - but this experience was jaw dropping. I ordered online, drove to pick up my order, called on my way there to tell them I am coming and if they had my order (they confirmed they did have my order), went inside to pick it up. When I got there I had someone help me find my order, then they disappeared, never finished helping me. I had someone else help me then, again same thing as before - they disappeared, never finished helping me. Then the last person I had to help (different person) couldn't find my order, and as I was sitting there WAITING for my order they cancelled my order because they were "too busy" to fulfill my order. I couldn't believe it - I am waiting there for my order and they went ahead and cancelled my order. I asked if I could re-order and as the person was helping she would stop, and answer the phone (multiple times this happened), and take someone else's order in front of me instead of helping me re-take my order. I am a paying customer in front of your face if the phone rings - let it ring! At this point I've been there for an hour and I've had it - and asked to talk with a manager - I didn't get a manager, but I got the General Manager. I am thinking - great - I can either get my order fast or I can get a gift card for THEIR mess up on my order. After explaining to the General Manager my situation, she goes and blames it on me for their system cancelling my order. She didn't even want to hear what I had to say, but was blaming me! I asked if I re-ordered my food can you put it in the front since you screwed up having your system cancel my order as I am there for pick up, and cancelled my order, no she would not. I asked if I could get a gift card for the HUGE inconvenience - free appetizer, drink, dinner, something.... the answer was no. My money will be refunded to my card for my order. I couldn't believe it! The cost for them to give me something small is nothing, compared to their reputation and losing a customer for life. I will never ever ever come back to Macayo's again. I hope this review sheds light in how they can train their staff, and managers to treat customers better. What is even worse is the same thing happened to another lady who was waiting for an order too who had a placed it the day before she was picking up. She was supplying food for a kids birthday party and they never did her order! I wasn't the only one having this happened to. If your online system has faults or a location cannot fulfill orders due to staffing issues you need to consider shutting down your online ordering until you have the operations in place. I have been coming to Macayo's in the Phoenix area since 2000. I have been at this specific location several times. Today is my last time going to any Macayo's location. To begin there was no alcohol in the Margarita we sent them back. When the food arrived we had to ask for silverware which was dirty, there were grains of rice stuck in the forks, food pieces on the knives. We had to wait for the silverware because our server had to sort through it to find clean utensils. We ordered a cheese enchilada for one person and a chili relleno for the other. We received a chicken enchilada and a cheese enchilada, the cheese enchilada was given to me as a chili relleno. No manager came to our table, not even sure there were any managers on duty. I quickly realized that I had steak pieces in my food, I informed my waiter, she informed her general manager and the only thing I was offered is for them to remake it, and "I'm sorry"by this time I had already put a hefty dent in my food. New bartender Hannah was so wonderful , kind, knowledgable, and helpful. Her service, suggestions, and attentiveness were way above any experience I have had there in many many years( I live in Ahwatukee so there is always someone that wants to go here). My husband and brother in law just had dinner and it was amazing. My brother in law is from Philly and says good Mexican food is hard to come by, but this was really good. We had the California Burro, Chimi de Macayo & Green chili Enchiladas. All were fresh and hot when served and bursting with flavor. We also had the Wildberry frozen Margarita and they were really good as well. There was only 1 waitress caring for our area, but I swear she was AMAZING! Best lunch with kids ever! We had a large group of children and Brandy was amazing! She was so kind and went above and beyond to give all the kids more than they asked for! Placed a mobile order and was told it was supposed to be done at 6:30. Had to wait 30+ minutes after getting there to get the food. 3 people came in after us and got their food and we were the last ones to be served. Other people had already been waiting for over an hour, and one lady's food was given to another customer. The front desk service was horrible as the worker forgot about people waiting who she already talked to, barely came up to the front to seat people and was just walking around not doing anything or seating the 10+ people who came in to dine in.
