I brought my Nissan pickup to Mach-1 Automotive because I was hearing an intermittent scraping sound. While it was on the lift, Greg (service writer) should me that the driveshaft carrier bearing was worn out, he felt that was the cause of the noise. I was given a price and then gave the okay to replace it. Driving home after the repair, I felt an awful vibration above 40mph. Once I was home, I slid under my truck and found (first picture). I knew that wasn't right! I brought it back the next morning and showed Greg the picture, and he agreed. So they replaced it again, (second picture). Driving home, this time I felt a vibration between 30-40mph. I brought it back again and I tried to get Greg to take a ride with me so he can see for himself, but he wanted the mechanic to go instead, the same one that didn't think there was a problem after installing the first bearing. I brought it to a shop that only does driveshafts, they told me that you need to be very careful with driveshafts because they can be damaged quite easily. He showed me some marks on it where it looked like it was placed into a vise. Unfortunately, he didn't have the attachment that would fit my model Nissan in order to test it. So, he advised me I'd be better off to buy a new driveshaft, (I didn't purchase it from them so they had nothing to gain). I also had to purchase and replaced the six bolts that attach the driveshaft to the differential because the Mach-1 mechanic thought 9/16 are the same as 14mm. I am unable to prove that they damaged the driveshaft, but the least they could have done is refund what I paid them since everything they did is now in the city dump, or hopefully in a recycle bin.

I first used Revive Auto Care to replace a control arm on my Infiniti QX60. I found them on Yelp, appreciated their positive reviews, and liked that they communicated over text. That repair went well, so when my AC started blowing hot air, I decided to return. They initially charged me $100 for diagnostics and a refrigerant top-off, then told me I needed a new compressor and quoted approximately $1,200. I dropped the vehicle off on Tuesday. By Wednesday and Thursday, they still had not identified the issue, but they continued replacing parts including the compressor, condenser with receiver drier, premium line kit, secondary rear AC expansion valve, blend door actuator, cabin filter, and recharged the AC system. By Friday, the vehicle was still not repaired, and they ultimately determined that the battery was bad and not providing enough amperage to properly run the AC system. They replaced the battery and told me the issue was fixed, which naturally made me question whether all of the previously replaced parts were actually necessary. The total had also increased to approximately $2,500, and at no point during the process was I contacted for approval on the additional repairs and charges. When I picked up the vehicle Friday evening, the AC was still blowing hot air. In addition, the vehicle was revving abnormally both while driving and while sitting in neutral. It is now Tuesday, and my messages have gone unanswered. On Saturday, I brought the vehicle to Infiniti for another opinion. I was told that the AC system had been overcharged by 1.73 lbs of refrigerant, which they said was causing the issues I experienced after picking the car up. I understand that diagnosing AC problems can be difficult and unexpected issues can happen, but the lack of communication, failure to request approval for major additional repairs, and returning the vehicle in worse condition than when it was dropped off made this a very disappointing experience.

I wasn't sure of what to do, so I started looking for a second opinion. I looked online for Mercedes-Benz repair and found David Terry, Family Car Care for less! What a blessing. He kept the car overnight, ran tests, and could not find any problems, which is what I thought. At any rate, for a small inspection fee, I feel so much better about the car. After the installation, I took my car for a ride and there were many warning lights on the dashboard. Not sure if they damaged all the sensors on the car but all the sensors are now giving me warning lights and these warning lights will not go away. If you have newer cars, DO NOT let these guys fix your cars. One of the mechanics was hitting the back rotor with a huge hammer very hard to get it off and must have damaged all the sensors, I guess. Another possibility is that the other mechanic was using an electric saw to cut off the dust covers and might have cut a cable to cause all the warning lights to show up on the dashboard. I sent them an email about all the warning lights but no response from them. They were able to install the 4 rotors and 4 calipers just fine but the brakes don't feel very tight and feel loose when hitting the brakes. I started to get weird things happening with the lights on dash. Engine light comes on and then go off after a few miles. This happened for a couple of weeks until I finally hooked up the OBD2 sensor on it and it says P0305 and P2314. The truck would run rough when the engine light was on but perfect when it went off. So I bring it down there and the manager hooks up a scanner and says nothing is wrong with it and that the ignition coils, spark plugs and fuel injectors they replaced are all running perfect. This thing continues to happen for another two weeks. On and off. So I park the Jeep for almost two months until a friend can help diagnose it. The friend pulls the manifold off to look at things and sure enough, the cylinder 3 ignition coil bolt is sticking halfway out and was never tightened. Cylinder 5 and Cylinder 6 electrical connectors were never pushed in all the way like they should have been. In fact the little tab on the brand new ignition coils was broken and the connector just pushed on and never secure. So he replaced the cylinder 5 ignition coil and secured all connectors that should have been done by Half Price Auto. So I spent money to have that all fixed when it never should have even happened if they did things correctly. I'll never bring my vehicle back there because they can't be trusted. They should change the name from Half Price Auto to Half-Ass Auto. UPDATE: They called me today to "get clarification" as if the review wasn't clear enough. So, when I explain for them to tighten bolts and make sure connectors are clicked in and most importantly, when you BREAK a clip, you repair it sites of leaving a connector hanging there not secured, he accuses me of yelling (which I never did) and calling names (which I never did). My next question was "what is the purpose of this call?" to which he replied, "to get clarification". He (Jack) then stated that I never gave them a chance to fix this, to which I said "How many chances should I give? Three? Once when the head gasket was changed, once when I went back with this issue that should have never happened and once more after that??? His comprehension skills are lacking and I see more clearly why this sort of thing happens there. Just wow. So again, I'm still out $250 and haven't been able to drive my vehicle for two months because they ARE NOT THOROUGH IN THEIR REPAIRS. Good riddance.

However, I am very disappointed with the level of expertise and outcome of the visit. My 2014 Jeep compass has had the check engine light on for a week, steering locked up last week, and has had delayed clicking start. Justin arrived, I gave him the full history of my vehicle (no problems for 10 years) and the issues occurring the last month or so which prompted the call. He started running tests, even drove the car around to see if he could replicate what I had been experiencing. About 30 minutes into the visit he said he couldn't replicate any of the issues; that's okay, as I mentioned it only happened about 50% of the time. But he sat in my car another 20-30 minutes or so, told me he had to call his boss because he was completely stumped. Not really what you want to hear, but even I started making suggestions of what it could be so he could at least do something for me. At the end of the visit he basically just said "sorry I have no idea what's wrong, maybe replace your battery?"... the only thing he found was a sensor on my engine needed replacement, but it's totally unrelated to the other issues. I ended up having to pay $150 for literally no better idea what's wrong with my car and not feeling any safer to drive it. It was a huge waste of my time and now I'm out $150, and I still had to take it to another shop that already figured out the problem not even 24 hours later. Save yourself some money and go to a real auto shop. I understand that some technicians may be learning or lack the knowledge to dive deeper, but someone should be going with them to assist so your customers aren't left feeling robbed and confused.
