The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and genuinely enjoy cars, and many of them are the same people who were here when I first visited nearly a decade ago. One of the few places that I never have to question advice, and often times if I'm doing maintenance by the book but it seems too early, they let me know, and I end up doing it anyways. I am just speaking for my order, if anyone decides to order strut bars from this company, they might need to do a bit of research elsewhere. This company's website specs that a specific strut bar would fit my car but did not. I ordered a set of front and rear strut bars for a 2013-2014 wrx sedan. The rear bar clearly was not designed to fit. I spoke to a representative about the issue and they told me to cut the bracket that mounts onto my vehicle that was not fitting. I opted for a return and sent the return. It was out of their 30 day return period so I am out $180 + $50 return shipping on a part that from the beginning does not fit my vehicle. I would not recommend buying from them. read more

I first discovered Mach V Motorsports when they were still active sponsors of the local SCCA RallyCross group several years ago. Sad to see them stop sponsoring, but from a business perspective it probably makes sense. RallyCross is a small sport with a tight-knit group of people and most competitors most likely learn about Mach V through word-of-mouth anyway. My first real interaction with them came when my daily driver cooked its turbo and then its engine not long after that. Seeing every catastrophic failure as an opportunity for "improvement" I called up the shop to see what my options were. Zach (the former service writer) and Dan (the owner) helped me put together a list of "necessary" items, finding upgrades that work well together, helped me identify some commonly overlooked items that should be inspected or replaced while the engine was out, and pointing me to some options for the engine build (I ended up buying a brand new short block from another location, I don't believe Mach V does total engine builds, but I could be wrong). After Mike and Deren (I'm sure with some help from Kevin) installed the new motor and the rest of the new parts, I had them professionally tune the car on their four-wheel dyno. All of their expertise and advice paid off, as in the end they helped me build a total sleeper Legacy GT that pulls 350 awhp, all for about the same price that the dealer would have charged me for a stock repair job. 16,000 miles later, the car drives better than it ever did, and despite having a demon under the hood, it is just as happy in stop-and-go as it ever was when it was stock. The professionalism and quality of workmanship Mach V demonstrated on the Legacy convinced me to ask them to do my next crazy project: a total RS/STi swap. I'd been toying with the idea of having my RS converted for several years, and had been looking into the logistics of having East Coast Swappers do the work, since that is reportedly their area of expertise. Getting a car (or two) up to Connecticut and back would be a huge hassle, and sorting out any little gremlins that pop up after the fact would be nearly impossible, so I asked Mach V if they would be willing to do it. To his everlasting credit, Dan tried to talk me out of it. He warned me about the parts and expenses creep that occur on huge projects like this, as well as the fact that they weren't one hundred percent sure all of the electronics could be merged successfully. He knew I wanted a car that would still be street legal, but he was reluctant to promise that I would have functioning airbags, power windows and locks, heat and rear defrosters, etc when things were all said and done. They had done two swaps in the past, but those were only for full-time race cars with most of those "luxury" items removed. However, once I convinced him that I was serious, the shop immediately got to work and blew me away with their attention to detail. In addition to the big, obvious stuff (swapping everything under the hood, transmission, axles, exhuast, etc), they also fabb'd mounts and created brackets for the places that needed it (off the top of my head, the radiator, power steering, dash mounts, seat belt brackets all needed some form of adjustment to bolt in properly). They also succeeded in merging ALL the electronics that Dan was worried might be an issue. Ultimately I would have been ok with it if the interior of the car was left in disarray or the engine compartment looked like Frankenstein's monster. The car is meant to be a full-time RallyCross car that can be driven to and from an event. But while I would have settled for less, Mike and Deren would not. Despite the fact that an RSTi is a car not meant to exist in this world, the car looks, feels, sounds, and most importantly, drives, like a rare limited edition direct from the factory. Although every situation is likely to be different, in this case, the costs came out to be a few thousand less than the quote I had received from East Coast Swappers, and ECS apparently "keeps costs low" by taking and reselling all of the leftovers from the swap (in this case, that would be the RS drivetrain and the STI body). Throw in the fact that I'm happy with the work, didn't have to drive to Connecticut, and Mach V let me keep/resell all the leftover spares, and I have to say it was a "bargain" all around. (Note: "bargain" and "inexpensive" are two entirely different things. Dan was right to try to talk me out of it. This was crazy). Odds and ends: In addition to the "big" stuff, they do all of the preventive maintenance and repair work you would expect. Oil and filter changes, fluid flushes, alignment (performance and manufacturer recommended), etc. In my experience, their prices tend to be higher than Firestone but lower than dealership. However their diagnostics are exceptional. Super personable, they remember their customers, and most importantly, they remember their customers cars. Online orders ship fast. read more

Last Saturday my wife and I stopped into MachV to take a look and see what they offered locally. I ended up buying a few items from them, one of which they had to order and they said they'd call me when it came in which would probably be Tuesday or Wednesday. Overall we were happy with our experience dealing with Will and it seemed like shop that I could see myself doing future business with. Looking at the bill the next day I realized that they didn't actually charge me for one of the items, an $80 license plate relocator. I figured I'd just bring it up when I picked up the item they had to order. I hadn't heard from them so I called today (Thursday) and turns out my item was there. When I went to pick it up a couple hours later, being an honest guy, I brought up the missing charge from my bill. They had no clue I wasn't charged for it and never would have realized it if I hadn't said anything. I jokingly asked if there was a good samaritan discount and Will said, sure "knock off $5". Umm, thanks I guess. Then he changed his mind and knocked off the 6% tax instead. Which came to a whopping $4.79. I certainly wasn't expecting them to give it to me for free but come on, I could have just kept my mouth shut and screwed them out of the ~$85. I don't think it would have killed them to knock $10 or $20 off which would have still left them room for profit and would have earned them a customer for life. It's not like I hadn't just dropped over $300 on a few trinkets on my very first visit to their shop. Hell, now that I think about it I wasn't even offered a "thank you" for bringing it up. Took my VW GTI to get a wheel rebalance and alignment. They're primarily a Subaru, Evo, Mini, and turbo BMW shop as we all know, but they can perform basic services that involve non-specific parts on other makes and models as well. Scheduled an appointment in advance, and though the service took longer than I had anticipated, it was worth it. All the guys at the shop are really nice and friendly and don't mind you walking in and out while you wait. The young tech explained what he observed and did for the rebalancing and aligning afterwards, so that was really helpful. They also do tech/track inspections and have a dyno for anyone needing baselining. Great shop, great folks, and will recommend to anyone. read more

This place is not for frugal, self-entitled kinds. No "extras" here for your "$50" business. What you get is bunch of young, enthusiastic, true car-loving guys, at reasonable prices who are easy to talk to and, most importantly ENGAGE IN your car's well being, if you're not the type to go berserk over +/- $100. If you want a mechanic to keep your car on the road with freebies this place is not for you. If you're after an engaging, intelligent and enthusiastic team of young people to look after your car at reasonable prices - bingo!!! Despite being primarily a Subaru shop, Mach V also takes care of Mitsubishis, BMWs, and Mini Coopers as well. I come here to get wheel alignments; it is only 99, and much cheaper than what BMW charges you. The staff is very friendly, and Matt (who usually works the counter/picks up phone) is very knowledgeable and approachable. From what I read on the forums online, I see that Mach V is very highly regarded in the world of Subies. For those looking for all sorts of modifications, these guys can take care of you. Additionally, for those looking for turbo-related parts for their Mitsus, BMWs, and Minis, they can accommodate you as well. Mach V is a quality shop, one of the best in the Northern Virginia area. Honestly the first time that I've ever left a negative review anywhere, but I feel that this deserves to be said. I called looking for a custom alignment, and provided the exact specs that I wanted over the phone, and was quoted $135. I set up the appointment, took off work early to get there and have the alignment, stated the exact custom alignment specifications that I wanted again, and still my car was brought into the shop and moved onto the alignment station. Only after my car was ready to be worked on was I informed that the cost would be $180, because they had to adjust caster as well - something that could have been caught before my time was wasted. Either way, it felt like a bait and switch to get me into the shop, have my car ready to go, upcharge, and assume that I'd just accept it. At first, I did, but I decided that it didn't feel right. I'm sure that this is an upstanding place and I just had a very negative experience (the person manning the counter seemed like he was having a bad day, as well, since he wasn't the friendliest), but situations like these really aren't acceptable. read more

I've purchased parts from Mach V for a long time - primarily for Mitsubishis and Subarus I've owned in the past. They have good prices, ship fast, and have great customer service. Dan and the staff are friendly and will gladly chat with you about modding your car and are truthful and upfront about prices. They primarily work on Subarus nowadays, but they're equally capable of modding and maintenance on any vehicle. They have an in-house Dynojet (with updated software) and they go by time, not by runs. They have an alignment machine, and are capable of mounting/balancing tires without scratching your rims. I'm pretty sure they can perform pretty much any type of drivetrain work (engine builds, transmission swaps, etc.), turbocharger (and related component) upgrades, and can tune your car using your piggyback or standalone ECU. After horrible experiences with some local shops in Arlington, I'll be bringing my BMW 335d here exclusively. Very few shops are familiar with BMW diesels, but they know what they're doing. read more

Mach V Motorsports saved my life. Ok that may be a bit of an exaggeration, however they did at least save my car from most likely being totaled, and myself from receiving another concussion. After leaving Mach V and heading towards 28, a driver decided to pull out from the right side into the left lane (out of two). He then immediately came back over into the right lane (where I was). I had luckily slammed on my brakes as soon as the idiot ran the stop sign (and lucky had no one behind me). I managed to stop inches from the (insert word here, my preferred options weren't PG enough for a review)'s bumper. The work that Mach V Motorsports had performed on my vehicle actually allowed me to be able to stop in time, before hitting someone going nearly 50. Previously, if I so much as tapped on the breaks or accelerated too fast, my car would slide. My original appointment was on Monday, before the snow and freezing rain. The gentleman from Mach V called me to confirm if I was coming in that day (admittedly, I meant to call them prior to them reaching out). We immediately rescheduled for Wednesday at the same time. I was in and out in the time I was quoted, the entire team is professional, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. I will definitely be back, and I would recommend any first timers to give them a try. read more

I had heard good things about this shop, so I took my saleen there to get a dyno run done on it. Yes, I know those specialize in Subaru's/German cars but they said a dyno run on the saleen would be no issue. My car ran great before taking it in to them. While the car was in the shop, they gave me a list of stuff they wanted to "fix" while it was in there. This included repairing the procharger, and realigning it since they said it wasnt lined up properly. After I got the car back it was chewing through belts every few miles. I had never had this problem before. So basically everything was fine until they started messing with it. To add insult to injury, they said "sorry but we cant get your passenger window up anymore!. It was working just fine before they took it in. Months later, I decided to give them a second chance to do some repairs on my BMW since they supposedly knew how to work on these cars. I bought a radiator support bracket for over $300. I was going to replace it myself, but decided not to. 4 days later I asked them if I could return it, completely new and unused condition. They simply said sorry but we cant take any returns. In my book this is an unacceptable way to run business. I will never take any car there ever again, nor recommend this shop to anybody else. read more

Mach V is awesome! I've been there twice in the last few weeks to get my timing belt replaced, and a few other things replaced and resealed. They've saved me a substantial amount of money and are extremely friendly and competent. It all started when my Legacy GT began putting out a small amount of white smoke when I started it up. I took the car to the dealership who quoted me about $3.5k for a new turbo, new cam and crank shaft seals, a timing belt, and a few more things. I knew there was no way I could afford that and decided to ask around on www.legacygt.com for suggestions. After quite a few good reviews from Subaru enthusiasts about Mach V, I went ahead and gave them a call and brought the car in. It turns out the dealership had not only wrongly diagnosed the problem but also grossly overestimated the problems and had planned on replacing parts that were nowhere near the problem. Mach V found the problems and cost me significantly less. After two visits, I paid ~$1100 and had all my problems fixed (and I haven't had any more since). Not only were their prices much more reasonable, they were also much more friendly and competent. When I first arrived, they pulled the new part out of the box to show me exactly what was going to be replaced and explained why. They also did this the second time I came in and they showed me the old piece that had been leaking. I will forever be a customer at Mach V whenever my Legacy has problems. read more

This is review for their website "Fast WRX" I recently placed 2 order with them and their customer service is lacking. On my first order for $700 in parts I wanted to return some whiteline end links that were deformed (not sure if it's MACH V's quality control or whiteline's, but these were off by more than 30 degress in clear packaging so pretty easy to spot). Anyway, asked to return these, got a response fairly fast, but kept trying to convince me to take a exhange rather than a refund, so I asked for the whiteline HDs ones. So they sent me the replacements and a shipping label with it, which was pretty easy. After my first order, I put another $1,300 order for brake parts, ended up not needing the adapters so asked to return those, that's when they said there's a 20% restocking fee! None of they is listed on their "Fast WRX" site (no customer service info at all). So I agreed to the charge and returned those (won't order from them anymore). During all this they were forgot to charge me for my first order, so when they received both my return and exchange part they combined it and charged it with my first order. They also charged my about $50 more than what it should have been. So I called this morning and a guy with an attitude answered and said they didn't receive the part after I gave him the order number, when I told him my delivery confirmation shows it as delivered, he told me to email his manager Will. Not sure why he can't handle a simple check on whether they combined the two orders. Bottom line, their parts are fine and prices seem okay but if you have to deal with their customer service they suck. I'm not ever going to order from them. The best vendor is subarugenuineparts.com, I returned items with no charge, no hassle, super fast service, even gave me extra brakes pads! read more

Evan did the work on my car, and was extremely thorough! They never once tried to up sell me, rather they informed me. Highly recommended for their prices and service. A local place (Atlantic Motor Sports) wanted $300 for an exhaust install and Mach V did mine for $135, not to mention had the lowest price on the product by far. I even left my "man purse" at the store only to realize I had done so an hour later, and Wayne waited for me for 30 minutes until after they were closed so I could pick it up. While it's a 200 mile drive from my home in Virginia Beach, it is now my Mini customizing home! Thanks guys! See you soon! read more

I visited Mach V about 6 months ago to get a custom tune. I've ran it in the fall and now winter and definitely pleased with the quality of their work. Dan did an amazing tune and it wasn't easy. My car was pretty much a unicorn when it came to WRX's. I couldn't resolve an issue and he had never seen anything like it but my car is still running and performing like a beast since his Protune. Every time I have called or visited the guys have been welcoming and that is important. Still new to Subarus it was comforting finding a shop you could call your own and know you could count on when modding a car and engine you're still learning. read more

My experience at Mach V was great! Dan has an excellent crew at his Sterling, VA shop. I was there (unfortunately) not to have any "fun" parts put on my car, but rather have more mundane parts replaced and repaired. I took advantage of the Mach V OEM brake package via their online store, ordered the part, and scheduled an appointment to have the brake rotors and pads installed. The day of installation, Matt had my parts waiting for me and proceeded to have Evan get to work immediately on my car. During installation, quite a few other issues were found with my car. Worn out valve cover gaskets and front passenger-side axle plus an issue with my airbox were brought to my attention. Matt offered to get parts in that day so that I could have my car back later on that afternoon. Despite only being in for a brake pad/ rotor install, they were able to accommodate the extra work needed for my car so I could have it done all in one fell swoop instead of having me come back for a separate appointment. I am extremely appreciative of the attention to detail of the mechanics who worked on my car, the excellent service from Matt, and the other friendly comments and "hi's" I got from the other Mach V staff during my day at the shop. The car is working better than ever, and I'll definitely be back to utilize Mach V's excellent workmanship, stellar knowledge base and experience, and the convenient location! read more

I started having some car troubles about 3 and a half hours away from home, and Dan told me if I could limp the car home, bring it by, and he may have a part laying around for it. This is my first time placing an order from FastWrx and very last time I will even click on that website. I spent over $50 dollars for a next day air shipping and it never even made it out their shop. Very rude and incompetent customer service. When a customer pays for a next day priority shipment but doesn't get it the next day by 10am, it is by rule of thumb that you refund that shipping amount and still ship it out overnight as a COMPANY compensation so a customer is satisfied. Dan the owner on the other hand was very rude. His tone of voice is demanding saying he's the owner and he makes the policy. This happened to me before but with Rallysport Direct but they compensated me for their mistakes. Refunded me my $100 shipping fees but still shipped out my order for a next day priority. Never again will I order here and I will do my best to tell all my car people to stay away from here. If you don't want a high blood pressure, don't deal with these guys. Went in this past weekend with a friend to see if they had an intake for his BMW. We got there and walked into their showroom. There were two employees on their computers (presumably doing work), yet did not acknowledge us for five minutes. Couldn't even say, "sorry guys, we'll be with you in a second." Had no sense of urgency to say "hi," and one of them looked at us then walked to the back. Finally one of the men asked what they could help us with. We asked if they had two intakes in stock and he simply said, "sorry, no." Seriously? He didn't even seem interested in putting an order in for one so we could do business with him. Talk about lack of hospitality or the desire to do business with us. Absolutely egregious and embarrassing if I was Dan, the owner. Not to mention I've spent thousands before on my personal cars at Mach V. Never again. read more

I blew my STi motor and Mach V was to my rescue with quality parts, competitive prices, and excellent knowledge of performance cars and modifications. Their prices are higher than your average performance shop but you are paying for the reassurance that your setup will hold. There was one day of miscommunication that lead to a few mistakes on my car but after speaking with the owner he sorted everything out and kept me as a happy customer. :) read more

I made an appointment almost 2 weeks in advance for a baseline dyno for my Mercedes AMG. I arrived on time and was basically ignored while the guy at the counter was on a long phone call. When he got off the phone he was unfriendly and unhelpful. I told him that I had written instructions with me on the procedure to put the care in dyno mode. He was totally disinterested. When he told me it would be an hour and a half to dyno my car. I told him that I had made an advance appointment so I wouldn't have to wait (I had also called 2 hours earlier to confirm the appointment). He then told me I was welcome to take my key and leave. I've been going to Mach V since 2008 and don't see myself ever stopping. Dan and the crew have worked on several Subaru's for me over the years, including a WRX, an STi, and a BRZ. They also take time to take care of my 240SX track car. Customer service is top notch, prices are fair and reasonable, especially for this high-priced area. In-house alignment and AWD dyno tuning make this a one-stop-shop. They'll work with you on getting the right parts to do what you want, and make sure your car runs the way you want it. I drive 50 miles because I trust in their work and service. To the below negative reviews: -Most shops don't allow vehicles to sit on their property taking up space and being a liability when the work won't begin for days. Nothing uncommon there. -Special order parts are rarely returnable at any shop. -FastWRX site lists 20% restocking fee under shipping and return info. read more

I've taken my car (2013 WRX STI) a couple of times to Mach V over the last 3 months for some repair and maintenance. For anyone with a Subaru performance model you can tell you are at home. There are always WRXs and STIs out front. For the work I had done they were quick, but also detail oriented. They always go over the details of something simple like an alignment and even noted that I got a little oil on my oil firlter when I changed it last. I am very happy with the expert knowledge in the type of car I have, and the level of customer service. They do great work on my car. I will probably never take my car to a Subaru dealership unless I absolutely needed warranty work done. read more

Mach V installed a turbo back exhaust, flashed the ECU (Cobb access port), and did a before and after dyno run on my '08 Mitsubishi Lancer evo. their price for installing the parts was very fair, in my opinion. a little less than i was expecting actually. the work was done professionally and quicker than expected. Dan did my dyno runs and he definitely knows his stuff. he thoroughly explained all the aspects of the access port and the dyno runs; even measured the air/fuel ratio for free because he wanted to ensure the engine was running properly. i had a few questions along the way which he thoroughly answered. doing the work is the easy part. it was the little extras that impressed me about these guys. the shop and work area were clean and organized. everyone was nice and answered any questions i had. they held my old parts for me until i could make arrangements to come back with a truck to get them. and Dan provided all the dyno files, software and some videos he took of the runs. they certainly weren't obligated to do any of this so i appreciate the fact that they did. i'll happily go back to these guys for any future work and would definitely recommend them to others. at a minimum i'd say call these guys up and ask for a quote for any work you need/want done on your car. read more
