Popcorn chicken, curly fries, and Taiwanese sausage
    Steffany W.

I was genuinely so surprised by Macho Burger and it's lowkey a hidden fast food gem. It gets a 4.2/5 from how pleasantly surprised I was. My sister was trying out Charlie's Tea in the same plaza due to their bogo deal and decided the try Macho Burger. We ordered the popcorn chicken, curly fries, and Taiwanese sausage. The popcorn chicken was more like chicken tender nuggets than the classic popcorn chicken but it was so crispy and yummy. The batter was not old at all and there was so much chicken for around $5.50. This is so much better than the cost of popcorn chicken at other establishments and it tastes good too. The sweet sausage was not a favorite of my sister but I liked it though it was a little fatty. I'm unsure if the price was $3.99 each or for 2 but the size of the sausage was not bad and I liked it. The fries were also decent and crispy. I liked how crunchy they were but I wish we ordered a spicy sauce to season them with. They weren't bad alone but were a little bland. They are just decent fries though and they stay crunchy after a while unlike McDonald's. I heard the parking situation was pretty abysmal but that's to be expected at these tiny plazas on Valley on a Saturday afternoon. Charlie's Tea also was having their bogo deal in the same plaza, but my sister had no problem parking at the adjacent TAWA plaza and walking over. We ordered take-out and I wasn't there so I'm unsure of the ambience and service, but I'm looking forward to trying out other options on the menu. It's definitely an affordable and delicious fried chicken based fast-food establishment that I would eat again.

The cumin fried chicken chop was crispy and has a lovely crisp and for the price it's really good. My family also loves the Beijing and California wraps. Crispy chicken and saucy goodness for all reasonable prices.

Best popcorn chicken I've had in awhile!!! I got the regular and spicy cumin flavor. I think it was around $7 each but they give you a pretty decent amount. Regular-- just usual fried chicken, kind of savory Spicy cumin-- GOOD!! Has a spicy kick, way more fragrant, definitely worth to pay the upgrade for seasoning Also, the chicken chunks are nice and big and are still moist and juicy on the inside! Also some places are cheap where the chicken pieces are small and there's just chunks of fried batter... but not here!! Super good value for the money and the quality is great!!!

Macho Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($9.99 - Spicy Version)

I had a good experience at Macho Burger (San Gabriel). I ordered the Macho Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($9.99 - Spicy). It's HUGE!! Its chicken is also juicy, thick, and fresh. "TASTY!" (IMPORTANT: Cash is not accepted. Bring card or contactless payment.) I arrived at Macho Burger (San Gabriel) on Tuesday (around 1:24PM). Parking is easy because there's a big underground parking structure. The sign says, "2 Hours Customer Parking Only." Staff interaction felt nonexistent. Customers can order at two self-service kiosk or the counter. However, Staff regularly vanishes to the kitchen. It's common to see an empty room. When Staff brought the food, Staff was robotic and swiftly scampered away without speaking. The food took four minutes and 38 seconds. Good time! As mentioned, I enjoyed the Macho Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($9.99 - Spicy). Its bread bun is fluffy and buttery. The chicken is thick, hot, and juicy with a light welcomed spice. Its breading is cooked perfectly; the outer layer offered a thin, crackly crunch. The lettuce is fresh, and the sauce had a faint sweetness. I felt extremely happy as I bit into this massive sandwich. I had a dumb smile as I feasted. Regarding ambiance, Macho Burger (San Gabriel) is clean and comfortable. There's six interior tables and one tall counter. There's also a gender neutral restroom for customers. However, the music has a loud, upbeat tune. The decor is also sleek and welcoming. Overall, I had a delightful meal at Macho Burger (San Gabriel). It's one of the best chicken sandwiches that I've tasted. I left full and happy. If you love chicken, this is an easy recommendation. 4.9 out of 5

Located in a busy plaza in busy San Gabriel, parking can be a challenge. Got their crispy chicken burger which is a good portion for the price. Ambiance is a few seating. You order yourself at one of two kiosks. There's a restroom at the back.

Bought this a while back but I remember it was delicious. I was sick and had a sore throat the next day, not saying that this was the reason. The service was alright, wasn't nice but wasn't mean. The restaurant was kinda busy but also calming.

I tried a Taiwanese-style burger and snack spot that specializes in fried foods with lots of options. There are only a few tables, but the space feels open and comfortable. Ordering is very convenient thanks to their self-service kiosk. XXL Fried Chicken Chop - A huge piece of chicken seasoned with furikake. It was crispy on the outside, thin layer of chicken, and clearly made fresh. Definitely large enough to share. Overall, I recommend dining in and enjoying the fried food right away for the best taste.

Been here once as recommended by my nephew and bragging about how good their fried chicken is. And he was really telling the truth, their chicken is top notch! Came here one night and ordered their popcorn chicken, their XXL chicken chop, they were so good! crunchy, and yet maintained the tenderness of the meat! Seasoning is very addicting. Love the seaweed seasoning. Got a bit of a spicy kick with it! got to try the cartilage too, flavor is there but its just that there is nothing to eat in that stick, lol! Also I ordered the truffle burger as recommended too. Now this is a big disappointment! The Patty is overcooked and hard, flavor is there but for the price that i paid for it is not worth it. The bread that they use is too dry and falls apart when you bite into it. I would have given this place 4-5 stars if not for that burger. If evr I will come back, it's because of their chicken, nothing more.

This spot was a small little spot in SGV that really wowed me. I wasn't expecting for this place to be good but it surprised me. We got the tenders, wrap, and sandwich and I cant even pick what I like more. Everything was actually good and seasoned to perfection. I would go back again and try other things. Quick service and fresh food when we got it.

Parking: The lot is adjacent to the Hilton Hotel and can get really busy with the shared businesses in this plaza. However, there is abundant underground parking. Ambiance: Friendly service. Ordering was easy on your own through a kiosk. We came during a weekday lunch rush and waited about 10 minutes for our food. The space itself is clean. I was surprised by the rose gold food tray, wooden panels on the wall, and mid-modern century chairs. While waiting, I noticed a lot of people coming in to pick up orders to-go. Food: The chicken sandwich reminded me of a fast food chicken sandwich - crispy chicken, iceberg lettuce, and heavily slathered mayo. However, the quality and taste exceeded a fast food's standard. The chicken was gargantuan, wonderfully crispy, well-seasoned, and so juicy. The bread was buttery and soft. It was such a satisfyingly delicious chicken sandwich. The regular fries were salt and peppered. The curly fries were addicting. They only had ketchup (free) and dried seasonings (extra fee). I wished there was a ranch dressing to go with the addicting curly fries! But that is just fast food-eating, 'ol American me. Conclusion: This is a restaurant that knows how to treat their fried chicken! If you appreciate fried chicken sandwiches, this is the place for you. I will absolutely be craving it and returning!

    Alex M. ..

Kept it simple with a spicy chicken sandwich! Loved the bun, sauce and breading. This was loaded with spicy flavor! The marinade penetrated deep and I love that they opted for a chicken thigh piece over breast. Not bad, Macho. Also had a few curly fries and found them nicely seasoned as well. Will be back to try more items but the price is quite steep compared to other chicken spots.

We visited this spot in the plaza next to where Tsujita used to be. Parking on a weekday night was easy, though I'm not sure how weekends are. We saw reviews saying the wait could be 30 minutes, so we called ahead and were surprised when they told us our food would be ready in 10 minutes. Sure enough, everything was ready when we arrived. The restaurant itself is very small. My son even asked why it was so tiny. The tables comfortably fit one person, maybe two at most, so we had to push two tables together just for our family of three. I wouldn't say it's family-friendly--definitely more suited for solo diners. Now the food: surprisingly good. We ordered the classic crispy chicken sandwich. The fried chicken was juicy, well-brined, and perfectly fried. It wasn't as thick as the photos on Yelp, so maybe they've downsized a bit due to inflation, but the flavor was solid. I wasn't completely full, so I probably could've eaten two. FYI, the brioche bread is very airy and fluffy that it flattens really easily, making the sandwich smaller than expected. The Brimage bread is and made in house because we saw bags and bags on trays out in the open. But the brioche bread is so damn good. The popcorn chicken was spicier than expected. We ordered by phone and didn't know it was spicy, so my little one couldn't eat it. We also tried the fried fish sandwich. I'd give it 3.5 stars. It didn't really taste like fish, but the sauce and brioche bread made it enjoyable. I wanted to try their shrimp sandwich (the one that's often sold out) so I might return for that next time. Overall, the food was good, but I wouldn't dine in again because the space is so small and not ideal for groups. We ordered, ate, and left; during the whole time, no other customers came in, though quite a few people peeked inside out of curiosity. One last thing: our sandwich was $9.99, not $13 like Yelp lists. I'd come back for the food, but definitely for takeout.

Many chicken sandwiches places have been in popping up over the year. I finally decided to give Macho Burger a try to see how it compares to its competitors. I made a takeout order on a food app and picked it up around 5:30pm. For my order, I got the spicy chicken sandwiches places and a side order of the popcorn chicken. I appreciated that they stapled the bag, so nothing was rolling around when I was driving. My initial impression was that it smelled really good. The popcorn chicken was crispy, spicy, and juicy in the middle. There's no sauce that comes with it, but honestly it had a lot of flavor by itself. They gave a lot of pieces, but I honestly got a bit tired of it. As for the spicy chicken sandwich, it tasted okay. In my opinion, it tasted slightly spicy, but a bit sweet. The crispness was similar to the popcorn chicken. Overall, I thought the food was okay. In terms of value, the popcorn chicken is worth it, especially if you are sharing it.

Coco raised the white flag after just one bite of the Reaper chicken burger…read more Coco is from a province in southwest China. Although her province is not as famous for spicy food as Sichuan, it is still a place where people truly love heat. She was the one who taught me how to use chili properly and how to cook in a Sichuan-style spicy way. But even she could not handle one bite of the Reaper flavor at Dave's Hot Chicken. She called it "chemical spicy", not the joyful, flavorful kind of spicy you get from serious Sichuan food. This was my first time visiting Dave's Hot Chicken. I am not really a fried chicken person, and I am definitely not a fast-food person. But I became curious after reading a Business Insider newsletter that ranked Dave's Hot Chicken as one of the most popular restaurant chains in America in 2025. With that kind of praise, how could I not try it? There is no Dave's Hot Chicken near my home, even though the company is headquartered in Pasadena, so I had to drive all the way to Rosemead. This location is inside a plaza with The Habit, IHOP, Chipotle, and other fast-food chains, right in the middle of a heavily Chinese residential area. The restaurant is easy to spot because of its funny screaming rubber chicken logo. I used to like that chicken a lot, especially the screaming sound, even though it is honestly very noisy. The interior has a modern industrial, almost nightclub-like style, with neon lights and graffiti-style murals. Everything is designed to feel wild, young, and HOT. When I walked in, every table was occupied by Latinos, and about half of them were teenagers, loud and clearly having a good time. What surprised me was that there was not a single Chinese staff member inside, even though the restaurant is right in the middle of a Chinese neighborhood. Since there were only two of us, and since I am not a big fan of fried chicken, we only ordered one combo with two sliders. One was Hot, the third heat level, and the other was Reaper, the extreme level. I had the Hot one. It was actually very good. The chicken was crispy outside and tender inside. Even though it was chicken breast, which is usually not my favorite part, it was still juicy. I would probably rank it as my second favorite fried chicken. Jollibee is still number one for me, but Dave's was better than I expected. The chicken itself was good, except for the Reaper one. My recommendation is simple: do not even try it. Coco was sweating and her face turned pale after one bite, and she is a well-known spicy lover. That should tell you everything. Another recommendation: eat the chicken with Dave's signature sauce. I do not know exactly what is inside, but it tasted like it had some honey mixed in, and it worked really well with the chicken. The waffle-cut fries were also good. They were crispy outside, soft inside, and not too dry. Again, the Hot level, which is the third level, is just right. Trust me. Do not go higher unless you are doing it purely as a challenge.

The Snow Cheese also didn't resemble cheese in taste or texture; it was an odd wet sauce with no real flavor. The only flavor we enjoyed was the Korean Fire, which was a simple sweet‑and‑spicy sauce. The chicken itself was decent, but the sauces really took away from the overall experience. The ambience was minimal. The restaurant was empty except for me and my fiancé, the walls were plain white with a single chicken‑themed light, and ordering was done through a screen. The tonkatsu was some of the best we've ever had--perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Kagura is known for its specialty tonkatsu, and it shows in every bite. The portions were generous and came with all the sides needed for a complete meal. We left completely satisfied and felt the quality was well worth the price. The service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and efficient without making us feel rushed. Finding a restaurant that excels in both food and service can be rare, but Kagura delivered on both. If you're a tonkatsu fan, this is a place you shouldn't miss. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Los Angeles!

We were a party of two and were given a choice of a table for two or a more comfy booth. Since my guest was my mom, comfy booth. She had the Don (bento) with fried pork wet on top of rice, with eggy soy sauce. ..I sampled it ... It was great 5/5. I had the chicken was crispy 5/5 not gready...chicken was tender yet crunchy panko breaking... with curry.. the curry had a slight bitter note but it was fine, and thick, it was a bit goopy on the pour... and had a thin skinlike layer which was odd but it ate fine 4/5 There's a free appetizer...choice of fried oyster or fried crab cream like a large round rangoon...I can't eat seafood, bit mom enjoyed it. She gave it 5/5. We both loved the salad, the pickled carrots and two cubesof sweet potato., and the pickled Persian cucumbers. Small tiny discreet portions of each but elegantly and a great palette cleanser...the salad dressing was tart and light. 5/5 The utensils are pre-set on the table and so is the sweet tonkatsu sauce in a small carafe also preset....there's not much interaction with the bust wait staff, but it was easy to catch their eye to ask questions, get the check, or clear the dishes...I had hot cup of green tea. But no checking for more. But I'm sure icould have flagged down a waiter had I really wanted more. They deliver the food and fly off, so don't ne afraid to stop them to make your requests...they are nice about it. You can also get a pitcher of Sapporo if you drink beer and are a larger parry which I thought was nice considering Sappora usual comes by the bottle. Parking is plentiful in the back...and free. We enjoyed. Very much. Just know 1) no desserts on menu. 2) yes there's a kids menu and 3) every protein is deep fried.

My parents have been coming here since their hey days, and I apparently came here with them as a baby. Quality and authenticity of the food here is so good. First of all, we came about 40 minutes before closing. They were about to seat us outside, but then the waiter noticed that we had two babies int he party. He was so nice. As soon as he saw that, he told the restaurant we couldn't sit outside, that we should be inside because it was cold and dark out. He earned major kudos from my mom with that thoughtful gesture. We ordered 2 orders of the hainan chicken with rice, beef curry, fish with cream sauce and pasta, and duck pasta. Everything was amazing. The hainan chicken rice was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The chicken was tender and juicy. It was a clear favorite in the group. The beef curry was filled with umami, and the beef was braised so tender. The beef curry was my dad's and my favorite. My husband and daughters enjoyed the duck pasta the most. It had the essence of a spaghetti, which the little girls loved, but the uniqueness of duck which my husband loved. My mom really liked the fish in cream sauce. No fuss or frills, just delicious food and fast service. If I lived nearby, we'd come much more often!

The only complaint I have for Savoy is the seating but that is not enough to remove a star. I…read morerefuse to judge a place negatively simply because they are so good at what they do, they run out of seating. Parking is easy enough and plentiful if you use the neighborhood but be mindful of pedestrians. You can see school kids walking around during the weekday. The food is where this place deserves my respect. I'll have to come back to taste the rest of the menu but the three I got were delicious. Roasted Cornish Hen: crispy and savory. The meat is a little dry but it goes well with the three dipping sauces they provide as well as the moist seasoned rice that it comes with. It may be a bit dry for some people but that's the riddle of the Cornish hen, it's quite difficult to have it be moist AND crispy. Baked Escargot with Herbed Butter went very nicely with the bread it was paired with. The slight sweetness of the bread coupled with the herbaceous butter and snail made for a decadent bite every time. I'd love there to be more butter so that it doesn't run out before the bread does. Baked White Fish Filet was moist and delicate in flavor. You get a choice for the sauce: tomato, cheese, or cream. We chose cream and it worked very well. Both the cream and the fish were delicate enough but still presented their own flavors. Will definitely come back. Service is quick. You write your name and they try to seat you ASAP. DO NOT COME PARTIAL!!!!! They will not seat impartial parties during rush hour. Remember that and fact it in!
