On an ongoing quest to find the best claypot rice/煲仔飯 in the area. They seem to already have local regulars here despite only being around for less than a year. Ordered the chinese cured meats claypot rice and was warned it would take about 7-9 minutes. Not a problem because we all know it takes time. When I got my food, the older couple at next table over asked what I got and kept eyeing it. Gave it a couple swirls of soy sauce, heard it sizzle, and started digging in. We all know the crispy rice bits are the essence of the dish and it was perfectly crispy without being overly burnt. Also scraped off easily. There was a good topping to rice ratio. I knew I liked it when I found myself eating a little more than I usually do. I can only speak for the claypot rice here and it's def comparable to Chong Yuen Fong's. They use more oil than CYF but give more meats/veggies so that's a win. Def recommend for the 煲仔飯!

    Claypot rice with preserved meats

Came to Top One Kitchen Cuisine in Alhambra last Thursday night with my parents and it turned out to be such a great dinner. We ordered the shrimp rice noodle roll, Hainanese chicken rice, claypot rice with preserved meats, roasted duck wrap roll, and a beef belly and broccoli stir fry. Honestly, every dish was delicious. You can tell the flavors are traditional and made with care. The one that really stood out to us was the claypot rice. The bottom layer of rice was perfectly crispy and that soy sauce they use is crack. It soaked into the rice just right and gave it so much flavor. Definitely the must order item in my opinion. Service was excellent. It's a true mom and pop shop, which made the whole experience feel personal. The owner took her time explaining the menu and kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Her husband is the chef and even came out to ask how everything tasted. I told him it reminded me of eating in Hong Kong and he just smiled. They both seemed genuinely appreciative, which made the meal even more special. I love supporting small family owned spots, especially when the food is this good. Parking can be a bit challenging since the lot is shared with a supermarket and other restaurants. The ambiance is a little outdated but totally acceptable, and the noise level was moderate so we could talk comfortably. Definitely coming back to try more items on the menu. If you're looking for authentic Cantonese flavors, this place is well worth a visit.

Very hole in the wall spot in SGV. The shredded chicken was my favorite and was super fragrant and juicy. The Special Eel with Garlic Butter rice was yummy too. It's only rice and eel, but the eel and rice were flavored really well and we ended up demolishing all the rice. We were most excited for the crispy roast duck pancakes (a play on the beef rolls), but they were a bit small and dry for our liking. Overall, the food was delicious and the service was great!!

My cousin recommended this place since it's fairly new. It's a nice diner offering a good variety of Chinese food and drinks. We ordered a few items to share. Unagi Bowl - Served in a stone pot. There was a lot of rice, which didn't quite balance the amount of unagi. The shoyu sauce may have been a bit too salty, likely to flavor the rice. Overall, not bad in taste. Hainanese Chicken - The meat was tasty and tender. Overall, not too bad for a first visit.

No Amex accepted, visa or Mastercard only $39 with leftovers for another 1-2 meals! Secret hainan chicken $15 3.5/5 Large portion! Chicken is served cold, rice is ok. I liked the chili and the soy sauce the most. If the ginger scallion oil can be either a little less oily or more salty it'd be great. Shrimp rice roll with egg $10 3.5/5 One shrimp I got was a little fishy, but the others were fine and plump. The rice roll was a little thicker than Ayee, but you get a lot of product. Their sauce could maybe be a little saltier ?? Crispy roasted duck pancake $11 4/5 The best thing! Pancake is crisp and a little dense. Lots of duck and it wasn't gamey. Veggies help to bring some freshness. Service Very sweet. The daughter? Was very pleasant and the mom? Helped me pack my 3 dishes.

Stopped by this spot to get their prawns again however, they removed it off the menu. Either they're testing out their menu or they've been switching out their chef. Whatever it is, it seems their menu is really inconsistent. Even their chicken rice didn't taste good. It was like yellow oiled up rice. Tonight we ordered Ancient method of shredded salt-baked chicken and it was a cold dish! If it says baked chicken on the menu, I'd assume it's a hot plate of chicken but no, it was cold as ice!! I asked her to recommend a few other dishes and she recommended beef w bitter melon and taishan cauliflower. Both are veggie dishes. We got both her recommended dishes and needless to say, we didn't finish both.

Second time here and this place still does not disappoint. The service is consistently welcoming, friendly, and top notch, which honestly makes the experience even better. The food is delicious, and the duck pancake is a must try. Easily a standout dish and worth coming back for alone. The ambiance is on the relaxed, quieter side, which I actually loved. Since it's a newer spot, it feels a bit like a hidden gem and hasn't been discovered yet. Perfect if you're looking for a chill meal without the chaos. If you're anywhere near the area, this place is absolutely worth checking out. Highly recommend.

Looking for a new place to try out and found Top One. It offers a mixture of Cantonese, northern Chinese and HK style western dishes. The lady who waited on us was super nice and attentive. The large beef short rib with red sauce seemed pretty popular based on Yelp reviews. It was very tender; but, it was a bit bland for me. The roast duck scallion pancake rolls were unique and tasty. The star of the meal was definitely the clay pot rice. It was very legit and had the proper burnt crust at the bottom. I'd come back again and again just for that.

Top One is fairly new. They opened several months ago and I've been here once for dinner. I My experience was good and the dishes I tried beat my expectation. The restaurant is simple and casual. FOOD We asked them for recommendations and all of the recommendations (half-chicken dish, duck pancake roll, veggie dish) we went with were good. The curry wasn't spicy but it was still good. The portion sizes are also a bit larger than they seem. SERVICE Friendly and helpful PARKING Shared parking lot (free). Can sometimes be hard to find parking. Street parking is also available.

    Hainan Chicken Lunch - 6/2/26

I was excited to tried this restaurant after seeing a recent post on SGV Eats. It turns out a total disappointment. I tried the $9.99 Lunch special Hainan Chicken. The plate came with a big scoop of rice with very little taste of chicken broth. The chicken were boneless with very little meat. I had 5 piece on my plate. Chicken was soft but tasteless. Sour cabbage underneath the chicken. Half a piece of hard boiled egg. You get your 3 sauces. I was still hungry after the small portion. Apparently, there's a minimum charge when using a credit card payment over $20. Otherwise they charged an extra $1 on your bill. Nowhere in the store was posted. So, I placed another lunch special per the recommendation of the owner. She recommended A5 BBQ pork and Chicken rice which was $10.99. When I received the take out. It was ultra light weight. Because I was given paper thin BBQ pork and 3 fatty chicken skins with paper thin white meat attached. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There's far better SGV deals elsewhere than trying to lure people with their $9.99 Lunch Special by filler in rice. With this prices and portion. I'd rather go to Sam Woo, We Chat Cafe, or Garden Cafe.

Its small and cozy so can be a bit of a wait at peak hours bu the food is really good. I first came here after hearing about the eel curry rice which I like to try at every location that offers it and it was pretty good, also available with garlic fried rice instead if one isn't up for spicy. Hainan chicken can be ordered whole, half, or an entree with rice, very tender and flavorful and a must order for me every visit. The clay pot rice is well made here, good grains, good timing and fire control to get a nice crispy layer, my friend likes the freshwater eel topping and I go for the pork patties. We asked a waiter for recommendation and they suggested we try the roast duck roll, it feels like a cross between a pre-rolled Beijing Duck in pancake and a ShangDong beef pancake roll. Good food, try and visit off peak hours!

    Cam H.

PLEASANT AND YUMMY Excited to have a new delicious Cantonese food spot in town. Plenty of seats and cute vibes. Everything was freshly made and serve to order. I really enjoyed my lunch and got my rice noodle fix!! Solid hainan chicken and the duck wrap was soo good. The wrap was flakey and warm and the duck was tasty. Service was attentive and nice. Will be back!!

    Pork chung fun, good!
    Meryn D.

The second time here and we ordered togo, we were sad about the food quality, the portion of the sweet and sour pork was very small, and they gave us fat meat that we couldn't eat. They didn't have beef chow fun so they gave us shabu beef meat chow fun, which tasted bad. The only thing was good was the rice noodles roll (cheung fun). We probably won't come here again.

The last few times I've ordered the kung pao chicken, it barely had any veggies. It used to come with a mix of colorful bell peppers, but now it's mostly onions. The sweet and sour fish used to be lightly battered and nice and meaty. On my last visit, it was heavily battered and you could barely taste the fish. I'm not sure if they changed chefs, but the difference in quality is definitely noticeable. It's disappointing because I really like the staff. They're always friendly and provide great service. First, parking was so difficult!! So many cars crammed close to each other and the restaurant wasn't even full, but we parked in the street nearby. The place had plenty of seating when we arrived, spacious tables that fit our group of 16. We had a large party and split into two tables, each table had peanuts and tea, we also ordered our own bit with the same serve at the same time. We ordered our usual dishes such as corn soup, honey walnut shrimp, salt and pepper squid, sal and pepper pork chops, filet beef dish, hainan chicken and many more. The service seemed slow, the bad part is that our other table got all their dishes while we had none. It took a while before our first dish arrived which was honey walnut shrimp, it was good, a bit soggy but flavorful. We asked for rice and started eating, once most of the shrimp was gone the rest of the dishes came. They were delicious, they tasted great and had good portions. The pork chop was great fresh but soon started to get tough as it cooled. The fried squid had parts that were very seasoned and some bland. My sister in law ordered a seafood tofu dish that was the best one but we ate everything before I took a photo. We also shared dishes across the tables to try out our orders. I tried the fried crab but it had more garlic than crab! The restroom was the sad part, there was no toilet paper, and no paper towels. The women's restroom door was propped wide open as well.
