We were a little skeptical coming here only because "hole in the wall" places are always REALLY delicious or a big disappointment,, but this place was REALLY delicious. AMAZING PINA COLADA!! First time visiting Macho Tequila. Honestly, this was going to be choice #2. We reviewed all of the Mexican Restaurant ratings on YELP and our #1 choice was closed. But all good things happen for a reason and we are glad to have had lunch here at Macho Tequila. It is located in a strip mall in Sparks, family owned and all of the food items are homemade. Our servers told us that it is Southern Mexico style food. It is a small, clean restaurant. Gives you a nice homey feeling. It was quiet at first, then the lunch patrons starting coming in and soon it was filled up. There are cute little tables throughout. Nice décor. The menu had a large variety of specialities but I was sad to say the pozole had sold out. I then chose the shrimp enchiladas which were really good. Other items orders were the quesadillas and the chile relleno and taco special. All were muy bueno! I also had a very refreshing horchata. Prior to our lunch being served, you get an ample amount of taco chips. There was a green-red salsa that was very tasty Prices were reasonable. $$ The server was very friendly and attentive. Came here on a Friday about 1pm, there was no one else in the place. While we were there, 4 other people came in. It is located in a small strip mall. There are about 7 booths, about 7 tables and 5 seats at the bar. The place is not real big, but feels homey. The booths have torn seats and could be refreshed. Overall the decor is similar to most Mexican restaurants. We heard about the Pozole through Yelp and wanted to try it. When we asked our server about it she said they did not have any today. She said they don't make it as often in the summer, but they would take our phone number to let us know when they have it. She said they do that for other customers. Pretty cool!!! The staff was very friendly. Our orders arrived fairly quickly and looked delicious. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and my wife ordered the chicken burrito. We looked up and tried Macho and boy do we not regret choosing this place. Homemade recipes and cuisine. First and foremost these are just some swell folks that work here and that helps make it easily my favorite place to go for Mexican food hands down. Every time I've came in here I've been greeted with energy and friendliness. They've made me feel like a lifelong friend even though we've been here only a handful of times. And every time I think I can't possibly enjoy this place more I wander off the usual path and order something new and realize just how fantastic all of their food is! The interior hive nice wide tiling and is filled with cozy booths that have hosted their fair share of posteriors. Lots of nifty paintings, pictures and sculpts adorn the walls making it feel pretty homey. Now for the best part.... the food! Everything here seems to have a little TLC thrown into it. It just tastes fresh and always looks amazing. I've eaten most of the menu and everything has that amazing homemade flavor and look to it. My hands down favorite is their taco salad. It comes with most of the usual ingredients but they top it with chunks of pineapple and mandarin that just work so well with everything else. My husband and I were looking for a new place to try for a late lunch. It was his turn to pick, and he chose Mexican. We filtered our search on the Yelp app, and Macho Tequilas came up. The Place: The restaurant was colorful and full of decorations. They had pinatas hanging from the roof, paintings, and all kind of stuff. They have a bar and table seating. The tables might remind you like your dining table at home. We got a big table just for the two of us. The Food: The server brought us chips & salsa and took our drink and food order. I got a Margarita (of course), and my husband had a corona. We got some guacamole for the chips and green and red sauce. The green sauce was SPICY, but I could not stop eating it! For lunch, I had the "Carne Asada" no tortillas and white rice and husband got a chicken "Wet Burrito." We were happy with the food. My carne asada was delicious! It tasted really good. I loved the rice and beans. The chicken burrito was enchilada style. The sauces and seasoning were very authentic. We were greatly surprised by the food at this place. We had no idea about it. The Service: A nice lady took good care of us during our visit. She made sure we had enough chips, waters, and drinks. The food came out in promptly and our check too. Yes, I will be coming back. Sometimes, I feel we have so many Mexican places in Reno, but they are all the same. So I am glad to find something a little bit more different finally. read more

I randomly stopped by here on Valentine's day with a friend because this Filipino restaurant down the street was closed. The cozy dining room had lots of love decorations and a live band! The staff was very friendly and you could tell that there were lots of regulars here since many folks knew the workers on a first name basis. I went with the Wet Burrito with asada and it was delicious. The beans/rice/guac/sour cream/everything was flavorful and didn't taste stale/old. I hated the free chips they give out (said no one ever). Yum, yum, yum! I picked up takeout on a Friday night and was blown away by the great service, delicious food and gluten free mole!! It's rare around here to find authentic chicken mole without flour or cracker thickeners - this is the real deal. So flavorful and delicious. Albita's is our favorite Mexican restaurant, but it's open only for lunch. The boyf and I were craving sit-down Mexican for dinner, but we wanted to go somewhere personable, chill, and obviously family-owned. Yelp brought Macho Tequila's to our attention, and we had a fabulous meal there. Macho Tequila's is a small restaurant decorated in tasteful but bold colors. Our server was super friendly, and the food was delicious. I ordered shrimp fajitas and the boyf ordered the carnitas plate. A huge mug of root beer for him, and a tasty top-shelf margarita for me ($8.99). I'm the kind of thirsty person who always debates whether to have one or two drinks at dinners out, and their margaritas are just the right size for my demographic: appropriately large. We sat at one of the semi-circle booths that line the sides of the dining room, which was cozy and still allowed us to turn our attention every now and then to the motorcross on one of the TVs over the bar. Excellent channel choice! The restaurant is in a slightly random shopping plaza in Sparks that I had never before had reason to drive by. After reading a thread on Nextdoor about how amazing this place is, we decided to make the trek over. It's definitely not in the best area of town. The owner took our order and was super nice and it was obvious he thought his food was the best in Reno. Ummmm. No. There were 3 of us and none of us were super impressed. Red salsa was tasty, green salsa was spicy. I ordered street tacos and the shrimp cocktail. Street tacos came out first. They were flavorful and tasty. I had issues with the shrimp cocktail as the shrimp were not cleaned. I don't understand why people don't clean the shrimp. The special today was Burning Man Burrito! OMG!! I had the Burning Man burrito!! Best decision!! It is be far the best burrito I have ever had in my life! I asked the waitress to make mine mild. The burrito was one of the bulkiest and largest I have seen. I thought for sure there was no way I was finishing it. Boy, was I mistaken. The sauce was a rich red and tasted like sauces taste when they have cooked for 2 days or more. I chose shredded beef. The meet had such divine taste, seasonings permeated the meat. I am not a fan usually of rice and beans but these were so tasty and full bodied. It was just too good to stop eating. This is my new favorite item off the menu here. If your not sure what to get you have to try the Burning Man Burrito!! I wasn't going to write another review and let people see that we were back but this burrito was so beyond amazing I had to let others know!! I went with the chimichanga with my choice of meat (chorizo). It cost a little extra but it was the best chimichanga I've ever had! The only complaint I would have is I wanted more! LoL. It was big though, but would have loved a combination plate. I Ordered a margarita with Silver 1800. That too was one of the best margaritas I ever had. For the price though, I would have liked it bigger. Service was pretty good decor could use some updating. I think there was a tear in one of the booths I sat in. I've been on a personal mission to find the best Birria in Reno. Macho's is the third place I've tried it at, and the dish I'm talking about is the slow braised beef dish with tomato, chiles, cinnamon and other warm spices typically served with tortillas, chopped onion and cilantro, and guacamole. I've never had this dish outside of Reno, which I'm sure is just a coincidence, but I like to think it's our own little specialty. Macho's birria is good, a pretty large portion of tender beef in a rich red sauce, the flavors of which fell a bit flat. It was served with the usual accompaniments, but they only give you a small scoop of guac and 3 small corn tortillas with the massive portion (extra order of 3 is $1!) . Our friends tried the fajitas, burritos, and chimichangas, and everyone said it was good. Macho's gets 3 stars because they were seriously understaffed. Running lean on the service end of a restaurant is never a good idea. We waited 15+ minutes to order more drinks, I downloaded their App which was supposed to get me a free appetizer that never showed up, and I appreciate frying chips fresh, but they should be ready in larger batches. I'm positive on my next visit that this will be updated to a 4, or even a 5 star review because the team seems dedicated to this restaurant. Only man/person working in front was nice. He's the only thing that deserves a star. Ordered a burrito to go and asked for no rice, no sour cream, no guac but add pico de gallo. Got home to eat and discovered was mainly rice, not much meat, and did not have any of the cheese or lettuce the server and menu said it should have. On top of a totally screwed up item, it cost me over $16 (!) for a burrito from a dingy, kind of dirty looking place. That's because I think they nailed me for a tablespoon ( if even that much) of pico. I won't be back. I'm pretty much giving up on this entire metro area for being able to serve up a tasty burrito. I've tried a dozen restaurants since moving here trying to find a burrito that compared to my favorite places in San Jose (CA) even a place in Rocklin. No luck. Convinced that all the folks who failed in their restaurant attempts in more competitive areas came here. Danged Taco Bell burrito tasting better than any of the restaurants I've tried. This restaurant came very highly recommended to me, so I had to try it a short while back. These Danny Boy Fajitas were also specifically recommended, since fajitas with a combo of meats is a fave of mine. The food was good, but not quite to my personal liking. It was definitely missing some kind of sauce or salsa. Not sure if it usually comes with it or not. That would have gone a long way. I didn't ask for any, because the server was in the back for quite awhile and until I was almost finished. I often have a late lunch when I'm out and about, so probably catching some of these restaurants at the wrong time or something. It's unfortunate. I also read something just now about the chips and salsa being kept full. I did not get any at all. Hmmm. It was filling and the meats, onions, and peppers were grilled to perfection. There were some other reviews complaining about the low number of tortillas. Definitely not enough tortillas for all the filling, but I couldn't eat it all in one setting anyway. ;) By the way, if you go with the corn tortillas, you get one more (probably smaller, though). It definitely was not an issue for me. I like to eat a lot of the goodies on their own anyway. I can maybe see myself returning some day, but I will definitely get something else on the menu since in my opinion there are several others that do fajitas better. Really good experience, came in around 3pm on a Monday. I was only one there but was greeted immediately and was given the amazing chips and salsa. I'm from San Diego and Mexican food to me has to be really good, if you can make a great salsa and chips I'm sold. I ordered the Chile Verde plate, to soupy for me as I'm used to a more molcajete tomatillo sauce that thicker in consistency, the pork was nice and tender. The quesadilla was really good to, I'd prefer to have some Oaxaca cheese used but what ever they used also worked. I'd return here on another business trip. read more

Stopped here on a road trip since it's close to the highway. Absolutely incredible food! Ordered a vegetarian enchilada and the sauce is incredible. There were so many delicious veggies inside zucchini and peppers and onions not your typical just beans and cheese. The best veggie enchiladas I've had! Also got a chicken chimichanga. It was perfectly fried and filled with lots of chicken. It also came with guacamole on the side which super fresh tasting. Would definitely just get a side of guacamole next time. We were also pleasantly surprised that our to go food came with free chips and salsa. The chips taste fresh made and the salsa was unique but delicious.
