1/2 Pollo a la Brasa
James B.

Great little spot for pollo a la brasa. Not sure if they are takeout only nowadays but they don't have many tables to sit down at either way. I have ever only gotten the chicken which is outstanding. A half rotisserie chicken with a side is around $13 which is prob one of the best values providence has to offer. They can only make so many every day so get there/call early if you want to try it. I was only able to give 4 stars though because it is often very difficult to order from them. It seems like they only have one phone line because the line is consistently busy and they don't have a website that you can order from directly. I have had to wait a decent amount of time longer then their quoted pickup times as well. Those two minor issues aside, it is def worth trying their chicken.

I went here for lunch with some people from work. On this day, there was parking available right outside the restaurant, but with limited street parking near the restaurant and no parking lot, you may have to walk a little. Don't let this deter you however as the food was worth a little walk. The place is small and unassuming with only a few tables to sit at and the decor is simple. We started with the Palta Rellena which is an avocado stuffed with a chicken salad type of mix topped with a hard boiled egg. It was simple but tasty. We also had their calamari (Chicharron de Calamari) with a tarter style sauce with scallion instead of pickle and the Ceviche Mixto which had calamari, fish, shrimp and potatoes. The calamari was fried well but typical. The Ceviche was every bit as good as others I've had and didn't skimp on the contents. If I had to nit pick, I would have liked a little less onion. For my entree I had the Chaufa Especial. It was simply a fried rice with steak, chicken, shrimp and egg. The portion was large and nicely cooked and seasoned. For my taste I'd like a little more kick, but nothing a little hot sauce couldn't help with. I asked for a side of fried plantains with it and they were fried perfectly and complimented the Chaufa nicely. You can't help but want to compare this restaurant with Los Andes. In my opinion, the food is very comparable and having had similar dishes at both, neither really stands out more than the other. Los Andes is larger and more of the hip place to be offering more selections in a fancier manner, but as Peruvian food goes, I wouldn't overlook Machu Picchu and I would definitely go back to try some different options.

Lomo saltado a la pobre

Ordered takeout here and we were very happy! Got the lomo saltado a la pobre and it was great. Pickup was ready in 30 minutes. Will have to try more menu items in the future.

The story of my visit here is definitely a fish out of water tale. my companion and i were yelping and couldn't find some place to go in that in between lunch and dinner time frame. after going back and forth for a while, we choose this place by the great reviews & that we enjoy the peruvian restaurants back home in NY. so we plug the address into the gps and head on our way. it is a cute little place and was pretty empty. we got our menus and when the waitress came over, it was clear that us speaking only english was going to be a problem for her. however, this was going to be great for us. my theory on restaurants is that the less that the waitstaff speaks english, the more authentic it is. after having someone from the only other table of patrons help us communicate with our waitress, we ordered and not far after got our food. it was fantastic. we ordered the garlic shrimp and Lomo Saltado (which i only know the name of because the reviewer below me described it). we also got an order of sweet plantains, which wasn't on the menu but i'm glad we asked for it because i could eat them all day long. overall, this was a great meal and we both left full and happy. i don't know if the language barrier is an all the time thing, but that doesn't really matter to me. the waitress was really nice and what came to us on our plates was delicious.

I did like my meal I had the quinoa bowl with salmon but I belt the lime or lemon they used over powered the bowl. I would next time ask for it in the side. I was with 3 other coworkers and we all did enjoy our time. Our waitress Sabrina was sweet, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. I would say dress casual. From the moment the dishes started arriving at the table, it was clear that this kitchen takes pride in bold flavors, fresh ingredients & beautifully prepared classics. The appetizer menu was simply too tempting to choose just one item, so we decided to order a variety to share which was an excellent decision on our part because every bite was outstanding! We started with the Chicharrón de Calamar, perfectly crispy breaded calamari that had a satisfying crunch without being heavy. It was served with banana peppers & a trio of sauces that elevated the dish even further. The sauces included a vibrant green spicy sauce with just the right kick, classic ketchup & a creamy dressing reminiscent of thousand island. Each one complemented the calamari in a different way, making every bite a little adventure. Next came the Ceviche de Marisco: fresh seafood marinated in a tangy citrus lemon sauce with herbs & spices, served with sweet potatoes, onions & corn. The seafood was marinated in a tangy citrus lemon sauce creating that signature refreshing ceviche flavor & beautifully balanced with the veggies which are traditional accompaniments that added sweetness & texture. Another standout was the Causa Rellena de Pollo: mashed potatoes marinated in aji amarillo with a filling of chicken salad, mayonnaise, fresh avocado & black olive. This dish was as visually appealing as it was delicious! For the main dish, we shared the Lomo Saltado, a classic that never disappoints. Tender stir-fried chicken was tossed with chopped onions & tomatoes in a savory soy-based sauce, creating that irresistible balance of Latin & Asian influences that Peruvian cuisine is known for. It was served over fluffy white rice with crispy French fries, which soaked up the sauce beautifully. Overall, this was a fantastic meal full of flavor & authentic Peruvian flair. Ordering a little bit of everything made the experience even more enjoyable, allowing us to explore different textures & tastes from across the menu. Shark Bar delivered a memorable dining experience & definitely a place worth returning to for anyone who appreciates vibrant, well-executed Peruvian food. NOM NOM NOM #YUM

I have been here on multiple occasions myself and have introduced many of my friends to sharks. The staples that we always end up getting the appetizer trio (calamari, ceviche, paella), lomo saltado. Other items I've enjoyed are the fried sweet maintains, Yuka fries, there Peruvian Chinese fried-rice. I would say their portion sizes are amazing for the taste and price. In terms of drinks, they usually have a fun selection of Peruvian beers that you don't often get to sample. They have very good cocktails especially the pisco sours (try the Moarado one - Peruvian purple corn). The other reason I love Shark's is the huge parking lot and tons of seating, so I have never had to wait even without a reservation. In terms of ambulance, it's not as fancy/romantic as some of the other Peruvian restaurants in town, but I would highly recommend this place as a good-value, no-frills option!

They give you a side of chimichurri and another sauce that gives a vibrant flare to every bite. This is definitely enough for at least 2 people. There are also take out containers there for your leftovers. I like the way they set the restaurant up, you go to the counter and order your food just like going to a school cafeteria. Amidst being fresh and brightly colored, the dish was quite bland overall. I begged for some elevated heat and flavor profiles-- it definitely fell short and was not spicy in the least. And I'm not a fan of a grease soaked platter... maybe it settled while I drove home but I definitely mopped up oil with a napkin/strained. No bueno. *Sidebar: They have a delicious green sauce that was really tasty and quite frankly saved the dish. I opted for this in place of a sweet Chili Glaze sauce that is provided because I hate sweet flavor profiles in all things dinner! Lol MVP: A wonderfully kind and efficient staff... the order was complete, error free, prepared timely and everyone was very friendly. The best item I purchased was the SANGRIA topped with fresh pineapple! Not the food-- it was all about their in-house beverages. Unfortunately, the set up is almost buffet like with add ons (I paid extra for Pico de Gallo... this also elevated the dish. With the sauce I selected and the pico, the dish literally would have been as bland as a cardboard sandwich). Perhaps it's me-- my palette is pretty elevated and I love heat. Peruvian dishes aren't exactly known for bombastic flavors, spice and heat... but the crowd and utter lack of parking got me excited. Will I return? Perhaps... definitely for a different item (perhaps the roasted chicken everyone was eagerly ordering) and it's a must on the sangria option! But $32.90 for a very basic fried rice mixed with lo mein moment + salad (I tipped $3 amidst to go).... Nah. I'd be lying if I said it was worth it. Lovely aesthetic and energy, however. Chef's energy on the food though was a miss.... Season! The! Food! Sir!

The menu had some great choices but no prices. Not a big deal, as they are new and will probably be adding them eventually. I ordered the El Caprichoso Salad with grilled chicken breast and 3 beef empanadas. They said it would be about 20 minutes. It did take about 35 minutes, so I'm the future, I will order ahead of time. Everything is made from scratch and cooked to order so the extended time is understandable. The El Caprichoso salad was very good but...it came with yellow rice and not brown and there was no avocado. I didn't open it until I got to my parents house so I did not go back. I would definitely order it again but ensure that I check it before leaving. The beef empanadas were hand made with massa. They were so different than the empanadas that I have had in the past but I absolutely loved them. Before cashing out, they let me know they make desserts. Flan, Tres Leches, etc. I would definitely go back and maybe sit and eat there. There are only a few tables so I assume that they will get more once things start to get busier. Very fresh food, very good service. I'd recommend checking this place out if the menu interests you!
