I will miss this place so much when they close. Such good memories of it, and the other similar restaurants like Bertola's and Louis Bertola's. The ambiance is straight old-school. We got there 40 minutes ahead of opening on a weeknight, and were second in line. By the time the place opened, there was quite a long line. The servers were excellent, prompt and quick. The food - how much better can you get than old-school food. The minestrone soup was nice and thick (almost gravy-ish). The bread - wow wow wow - such good Italian bread. Crispy and soft too. And the salad! We used to laugh that there was always a slice of salami for every diner. Yep, still the case! We had the Prime Rib, standard cut. Wow, I miss having a good piece of prime rib like this. No nonsense! The horseradish was a kick - much sharper than I've had it at other places! The pasta and veggies were also good (but I was already kinda stuffed from the bread to really notice them!). All in all, such a good place. Make sure to visit them before they're gone for good.

Just ate our last meal at Mac's. For 40 years we've enjoyed meals here and picking up soup and bread to have some comfort food. This is the restaurant we ate at the night before we had our first child. As our son grew his first solid food that he loved were the carrots from the soup. At 33 he still loves the soup and we are bringing some home with us for him and the other kids so they can enjoy the soup for the last time. Thank you Julie for being so kind throughout the years. I wish you the best. Thank you Mac's Old house for providing us with delicious meals consistently and being a happy place. All the best in your retirements.

Lots of charm at the establishment that has withstood the test of time but is unfortunately closing this month. We waited about an hour and a half for a table on a Thursday evening and were lucky to get seats at the bar. They do allow you to take drinks out front in paper cups while waiting for a table. The lone bartender was extremely busy and close to his limit of frustration in his interactions with customers. Dinner format is soup, salad, sides of mixed vegetables and pasta with all entrees. Menu entrees are limited to a few fish and beef or chicken options. Prices extremely reasonable.

Mac's will soon be close, but you will step back in time if you visit. This place is blue collar bang for the buck, large hardy servings of Italian influenced food and inexpensive cocktails too like your in the 60s and 70s having grown up in San Francisco and south San Francisco. I don't think you can find a better value these days but this is not a refined experience but down to earth real folks without pretense. Parking was tight but we found a spot. Long time patrons offered an average wait time that was completely inaccurate to their surprise not realizing that the last minute frenzy to visit before closure was not a consideration. Don't go here if you want a snooty refined experience but do visit if you want a down earth real folks experience. Thanks for the memories Mac's

Came here on a Monday around 6pm, the anticipated wait time was about 1hr 30mins but we were called after 30mins. They don't do digital waitlists so you will have to stick around. The atmosphere was very lively since there's also a bar and everyone was very friendly. The servers were very quick and attentive despite the high volume of people. They serve soup and bread given in a large bowl to share with your table and salad afterwards as your starters before you receive your entree that additionally comes with pasta and veggies. The soup reminded me of Chef Boyardi ravioli and the salad was loaded with vinegar dressing I had the Ribeye Steak done medium rare, it was delicious and juicy! The pasta marinara was very salty but actually tasted much better the day after when i had my leftovers. The prime rib was also juicy and tasted great as well. Definitely satisfied my hunger! Please note it's a cash only establishment but they have an ATM if needed. Overall, it almost felt like eating dinner with family/friends at home with some good food and positive vibes. Very happy we got to stop by before they close in June. Hopefully I can return again before then :) It will be missed by many!

PSA: cash only. ATM located inside as well. Antioch's best kept secret. Can't make it out to HOPR? Mac's Old House will do. Open from 4pm-10pm daily, usually with a line at the door on the weekends. Parking is available but limited if the house is packed. We ordered the extra cut end piece, medium. You start with their minestrone soup in the metal bowl with their hot bread and butter. Next up is their house salad then your protein of choice. Dinner for two came out to $50. I love the rustic ambience and small town charm of this place. The bar is an excellent option as well.

Food was delicious and plenty for the value! Menu is simple and delicious. Server was very nice, busy and attentive. Thank you. Very rustic inside, and hot, get ready to snuggle a little with your neighbors. We did have a wheel chair guest in our party and although it was tight, we managed. Overall, great food for something simple.

Old school family Italian restaurant with prices from 1980s. The best deal in the Bay Area. Steaks, prime rib or seafood. The first time I was here I ordered the extra thick prime rib. It was a bit over cooked for my taste so next time I'll choose medium rare rather than medium. This time I chose the ribeye at medium rare and it was perfect. Full course dinners with soup and salad and bread. Great deal! Don't miss it. It's worth the visit. The only negative is no reservation and it's usually an hour to an hour and a half wait on Fridays and Saturdays. But if you're patient it's worth it.

So sad this restaurant is closing soon. E were able to get a group of friends to dine here together one last time. Decided to get larger cut off prime rib. It was delicious!! They also let me order a piece of calamari steak for only $3 more! Excellent!!! Owners have been here over 40 years and are looking to find a buyer who might be willing to keep the menu but no one has surfaced yet

This place was nice as an experience, but I probably won't be back any time soon. The food was mostly mediocre and the utensils weren't clean. The bread tasted like hamburger bread. The salad came with vinaigrette. The best part of the meal was definitely the salmon. It was cooked to perfection, flakey and not dry. The service was good. It was t exactly clear when we first walked in where to wait, since there was no server but someone pointed us to a server, who seated us.

    Unbelievable prices!!

Pub feel, very old school, food is filling, lower cost compared to most and the menu doesn't look like it's changed much but it's not pretentious. The ladies that we have had take care of us are friendly, charming and have said they worked there for as much as 40 years! Karen was funny and entertaining. You get soup AND salad with your entre and there's a limitation as to what you can change, so just enjoy what you get, keep an open mind. The overall feel is comforting, like a neighborhood diner, come out and try them out!

1st visit: We've live out in Contra Costa County for 13 years and just got around to visit the place. We arrived around 3:45p with already a line of people outside waiting for the doors to open at 4p. It took about an hour for the food to arrive after being seated but with good company, we didn't really mind it at all. Noise level is a bit on the loud side, it's a typical bar/lounge and tight space. Definitely worth checking out every so often when craving for ribeyes or grilled snapper! Menu price on place mat taken August 2024.

Integrity X. one start review on Aug 4, 2024 is trash! Still the best value in the East Bay Area! You'll leave here stuffed no matter what you order. Where else can you get Soup, Bread, Salad, Meat, Veggies, & Pasta for like $12 ?!?!? Best Minestrone & Bread in the Bay Area! You can't go wrong with many of the protein choices. Bar Drinks: Single $4 Double $4.50 Triple $5

I'd come back for this simple but delicious minestrone soup

Ask the Community - Mac's Old House

My friends daughter has a severe peanut allergy. Does any of your dishes contain peanut or peanut oil?

I highly doubt there is any peanut oil used in Mac's kitchen but you should really call the business to ask this question.

Has the recipe for the Minestrone soup changed. It seems very spicy now since before Covid ? My friends all agree it's different now.

I don't think it's been changed, it tastes the same to me and I've been there several times lately

All of our ur prime rib is dipped au jus and side of it is available upon request!

    Is the minestrone vegetarian friendly?

No, the minestrone has pork in it.

Do you have a child's menu?

We don’t have a separate kids menu, but we do have some options for kids! Our most popular option is our “Pasta Dinner” that comes with an option of all penne pasta with meat red sauce or half pasta and half veggies. You can also request the dish…

Yes we do! We have one for each station. So three total!

Is prime rib only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday?

Prime Rib is served every day of the week and is always on the menu!

Are to-go containers provided when doing take out? Or do you need to bring your own containers?

The Owners/Hosts were courteous and sat us right away. We ordered the 20 Ribeye's both. Sides of creamed spinach and Brussel sprouts and two salads, one Caesar and one house. Also cream of mushroom soup. Presentation was spectacular. The salads were crisp and garnished with edible orchids. The soup was creamy and soothing. We chose, at the suggestion of our host the Bowtie Petite Syrah from the Macaully Estate Winery. Delicious, perfect temperature. The steaks were cooked perfect to medium. The rub was spiced right, and no steak sauce was even pondered. We topped it off with the New York Cheesecake and even though one of the Blueberries sadly fell off the table during the mandatory photo session, it did not hold it against us. Blueberries are naturally sad by comedy nature, so it held it martyrdom with pride. We will go back. We will recommend. The honey lemon was unique, as it left the wings a bit dryer than a traditional sauce *The slaw was good. Not unique, but still executed well, being flavorful, cold, and fresh. *Their in-house mango passionfruit drink was unique, and rather good. It was a good refresher to cleanse my pallet in between bites. POTENTIAL POINTS OF IMPROVEMENT *The carrots and celery were... pathetic. The slices were equally thinner and shorter than my index finger. *The tenders beneath the sauce tasted like pre made tenders, as they tasted very similar to many other tenders I've had at various restaurants Conclusion: Wing bros in Antioch was a flavorful, above average quality experience with decent value for what you get. Was a little disappointed that our seafood boil did not have the sausages, I literally kept checking the bag until I finally dumped it on the table and still no sausages. The boil was a little on the salty side. But over all it was still a good boil. The ambiance is cool it's got that sports bar vibe going on but it's kid friendly.
