3 1/2 stars because this is a hard one to pin down to star rating as we had service problems acerbated by kitchen. Although, I believe the kitchen problem was the fault of the server. Upon arrival, I questioned menu items for gluten and the server helpfully brought me a GF menu. I ordered the salmon from the GF menu and requested no glaze as menu instructions. However, I received the salmon covered in glaze. Also noted was the strange way the salmon was portioned, vertically versus the usual horizontal slices but cooked perfectly. I was just going to skip eating and drink my dinner (hubs would polish it off later), but my friend called over our server and I pointed out the glaze. She then pretends to not know I ordered it GF. Maybe she forgot? Anyway, she whisks it back to kitchen, where it returns 15 minutes later 1/2 sized, sans glaze, completely unseasoned and overcooked. What did she say to the chef as to why it was sent back? No idea. My friends ordered the ribeye, looked and per her was delicious. Her partner ordered the sad linguine with shrimp. Oddly, the smallish portion of pasta came out with the linguine in a pile and the shrimp cream sauce next to it on a flat plate. He said it was scrumptious though and cleaned it up. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, Again smaller than a usual CFS, but not over breaded, perfectly cooked and he loved it. Other than those problems which sadly put me off the meal, the atmosphere is neither old school or modern and is quite comfortable. This is our first visit here. They describe the atmosphere as warm... I can go with that! I call it a cross between upscale and casual dining/based on the menu choices, prices, as well as the general look and feel of the place. We started with onion rings as an appetizer, It was a very large portion... clearly homemade, served with ketchup and only $4.50... a true value for what we got! We followed that with a house salad and complementary fresh baked bread. Once again, generous portion on the house salad for only $2.95. For the meal, we ordered the ahi tuna. I've been often disappointed with ahi when ordering in other places... but this was exceptionally good! Medium rare, moist and tasty. Served with an excellent sauce, along with broccoli and carrots. Service was excellent! My water glass was never empty. The pace of delivery, of the food was also excellent! Definitely a five-star experience! read more

Oir group of three work colleagues stopped for lunch on our first visit to Mac's. We enjoyed the slightly spicy cheese soup and the complimentary loaf of bread (the dry kind that steak restaurants tend to serve). One of us ordered the grilled coven sandwich and was very pleased including the sweet potato fries with (white) gravy for dipping. One of us ordered the daily catch special (grilled halibut) topped with grilled onions (I thought it was a weird combo to be honest) and substituted onion rings as the side. The halibut was bland like halibut usually is but a little too dry. The lightly breaded 1/2 order of onion rings was excellent. The other of us ordered the roast beef sandwich with wilted (sautéed with olive oil) spinach. Both were fine but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was classy and tended toward a traditional steak house with dark wood accents and classy, refined but comfortable service. We would come here again but probably wouldn't go far out of our way for a good but not great experience. read more

I hate leaving three stars because I really do love Mac's. My husband and I took a visiting family couple to dinner last night. I won't leave a long review, but I was really disappointed in the service and some of the food. Our waiter for whatever reason was completely focused on a table of six behind us and left us hanging on everything. Empty glasses waiting 10 minutes for tea or water, forgotten cocktails, dropped dessert menu 15 minutes after we sat finished with our meals then took another 15 to come back and take our dessert order. Brought one dessert out and said oh boy I forgot the other one didn't I haha. I was not amused. I ordered the shrimp with beurre blanc sauce and it was the worst plating I've ever had here, over cooked shrimp sitting sadly in cold sauce which was oddly tart and I had to salt and pepper which I don't usually do. I wanted to snap a picture but I don't like having my phone out when with company. Tonight was 100% not up to Mac's standards. I'm sure I'll be back, hopefully with a much improved experience. read more

I really liked it. More than my husband did. I had the hanger steak with chimichurri and it was delicious. My husband had the special (I don't recall what it was) but he said it was just average. We were in the back room and it felt like the heater was on full blast (not in a good way). I'd be open to trying it again. He is not sold. read more

Prime rib was ok. Nothing special. Asked if they had raw horse radish. They said yes. It came out a diluted horse radish sauce. Wilted spinach was cold and presented with long stems. My fiancé's gumbo was way to spicy for her. They were kind and did not charge us. She ate only half of her 5 or 7 cheese mac & cheese. Salad was not special either. The best parts were carbonated water and the hot, tender, crispy crust, sour dough bread . Service was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was subdued with gentle music in the background. We usually enjoy Mac's on Main throughout the year and have good food and service but not this time. This was our fourth year to have dinner at Mac's before viewing the Holiday drone show. Our reservation was for 5:30. The drone show was at 7pm. Our food came out at 6:45. An hour and fifteen minutes. We did not see the drone show. The food was good but we couldn't enjoy it. We were very disappointed to not see the drone show. I'm not sure if there were issues in the kitchen or if it was our waiter. I'm not sure where the issue was. When I called and spoke with the manager of the evening he said we were packed. It was not. I guess I should have brought up the issues the evening we were there. What's not to like about Macs? They have tons of food options and the service is outstanding. I always feel special when I eat here. Located in a prime spot in Grapevine, Mac's on Main is an intimate, upscale, but affordable dining establishment. We went to meet up with some friends for dinner and drinks after touring some of the local breweries. It was a little crowded when we got there, but we were able to sit at the bar. Our waitress/server/bartender was exceptional. She took great care of our group, even though the bar area was also a little slammed at times. The ladies ordered wine and we ordered Old Fashioneds, which were expertly and quickly made. We ordered empanadas, wings, shrimp etoufee, and I had the Steak Frites. Everything was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and generously portioned. We ate, had a couple more drinks, and decided to head out, as it was nearing closing time. Even though it was late, we never felt rushed and were treated to an amazing experience. This is a great date/dinner spot. Sophisticated but not pretentious and a great menu. I've heard the brunch is spectacular as well. If you're in Grapevine and looking for food and drinks that won't disappoint, go give Mac's on Main a try. read more

We arrived on time for our reservation and were quickly seated. The restaurant itself was comfortable and spacious. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. But the food....hmmm. it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. it almost felt like it was an off night. I ordered the ribeye, loaded, baked potato, and asparagus. The kids ordered burgers which we had to order from the adult menu as the kids menu did not offer a burger. When everything came out, it looked delicious but it truly just tasted okay. The steak had nice grill marks, but was a little tough and while I had asked for medium, it was closer to rare inside. The asparagus was flavorless and the baked potato was what you would expect. I tried the kids burgers when they came out and they did not have much flavor, were way overcooked and the kids barely touched them. I also had a glass of wine that tasted bad and got a different one to replace it and it was slightly better. Again, based on other reviews I read I believe this restaurant normally is a better experience. Again, it wasn't terrible, but I expected more. read more

My friends and I had a very good experience at Mac's On Main. The service was attentive, and the food was awesome. The restaurant also had a very good atmosphere. The only reason why I took a start off was b/c I felt our waiter was a little bit pushy. The menu isn't cheap, but he was pushing multiple appetizers and drinks juuuuust a little too much. He was likely very busy and we were probably too slow to make a decision, but the way it came across was just a little too much. With that said though, everyone loved their meals. This is a group of people that tend to leave with Togo boxes and no one did. Everyone eat everything. Very very good. We will definitely be back. read more

Welllll... I've been wanting to try it for a long time, so maybe I had my hopes set too high. First, parking was strange. We had to drive around to the back of buildings and find random parking and walk a bit to the restaurant. I get it's Grapevine and that can happen, but there didn't seem to be a dedicated parking lot for the businesses in that strip. Second, all the tables received bread except us. It looked like it was the freebie and we were forgotten. Not too sad because I didn't want to fill up on bread anyway. Third, the cheeseboard was great. Good quality cheeses and jams/jellies and honey. Loved the honey! Plus nuts and bread/crackers. It wasn't super fancy but was good. Fourth, entrees. My husband got a burger and really liked it. Said it had great flavor. I, on the other hand, got no flavor. And it wasn't the flavor that was the issue; it was the quality of the chicken. It was soooo bad--rubbery. I boxed it up and took it home for my youngest: he's a teenage boy who will typically eat anything I bring home. He said, "What is this? I thought you said it was chicken." He threw it in the trash. That's why this review is a 3 star. It was okay overall, but we won't go back considering all the amazing options in North Texas. If I lived two minutes away, I would probably try it again. Came in here for our anniversary tonight. We were not disappointed in any way. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was excellent. And the food/beverage was excellent. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer. Also ordered a bottle of Rose. The server was super professional and helpful. She was just attentive enough but not overwhelming. Awesome! I had the blackened roughie with etoufe and husband had Scottish salmon. Both were recommended by our server. Both were awesome. And the prices are extremely reasonable. Some friends of ours have mentioned that this restaurant is their parent's favorite. So, while checking out this year's dfw restaurant week choices, we decided to throw in a date here. I can see why our friend's parents like it. The other folks we saw dining here were seniors. Maybe it's a tradition, or they enjoy the salty basics. I ordered the prime rib. Other than overly salted, it was bland. No au jus, just a bland horseradish "sauce" served aside. It tasted more like sour cream. Their slow roasted loaded baked potato does not include bacon, but did include green onions that should have been thrown out. Also, the "slow roast" on these potatoes look a lot like chef mic's work. My husband's steak came out rare instead of medium. They reheated the steak and brought it back out at the right temp, kindly. They also gave my husband a free glass of wine for the inconvenience. For dessert we ordered the flourless chocolate "cake" which was very unimpressive. My husband, who eats almost every bite of everything he is ever served, only ate one bite. It was incredibly bland and basic. I doubt they made it in house. Our server, while kind, was more robotic. We are happy to of helped with the food pantry during dfw restaurant week, but we will not be back to mac's. read more

We were a cold family of 7 after riding The North Pole Express and were looking for somewhere tasty. I have been wanting to try this spot and although we were almost half an hour early before opening time we decided to walk by just in case. A waiter came and opened the door and said we could come in and be seated early! Awesome! They serve you complimentary bread and butter. So good. All of us ordered something different, Prime rib, Prime rib sandwich, sweet potato fries, Mac n cheese, Wagyu Burger and I ordered the Shrimp with Citrus Beurre Blanc Sauce. Omg. Cooked to perfection. It's been weeks and I still think about it. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and my little 10 month old had fun tasting everything. We also got the Turtle Cheese ale and Key Lime pie for dessert, both spectacular! Definitely recommend, and we for sure will be back soon!! read more

I'm so sad to report after going to Mac's for decades it has gone down hill. We went tonight for salad and crab claws. Salad is served I'm a a bowl (iceberg, some green lettuce, onions and blue cheese) $8 per person x's 2 =$16 if 3 people were eating out of same bowl would be $24? (ridiculous) 1/4 lb crab claws $17. Half of the crab claws literally had no crab on them I mean NO crab at all and the others where so small barely got any. After letting waitress know we got one salad comped lol! I know quality has gone down almost everywhere but maybe get a new crab-claw supplier. Probably won't be back anytime soon. read more

I was very disappointed with my brunch experience at Mac's. It was our first time eating there, and we had reservations for Sunday brunch. However, we still had to wait on our table and once we were seated it took about 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge our table and bring some water and coffee. We then ordered and the food took another 20 minutes to come out. The problem was the waiter never checked in on us nor did he apologize for the wait. I don't mind waiting for phenomenal food, but this is the problem as the food was lackluster. Our breakfast potatoes were cold. The gumbo was not tasty nor very authentic. Looking for a new place to have a nice steak. We were reminded of restaurant week by their sign outside. Unfortunately we were shut down because we didn't note it in our reservation. I made the reservation an hour or so before so it wouldn't have hurt to let us partake. We ordered their crab cakes, prime rib with baked potato and Filet Peperonata. The menu was priced at top dollar. The disappointment came when my wife came face to face with a dish that looked like it was from a cheap buffet. I am giving this place 3 stars due the food they did well but could have done better. The service was great. They bring over fruit and cinnamon rolls when you walk in. The fruit was good but the cinnamon rolls tasted stale but other tables seemed to love them so maybe it was just ours? I got a few sides for brunch the eggs, potatoes and biscuits. They didn't bring out butter or jam for the biscuits and by the time they did they were cold. The eggs were good. The potatoes were OK but I usually prefer hashbrowns. This is one of our go to spots in grapevine. The food is always great. The drinks are always delicious and the servers are always pleasant. They always have a great fish dish. Their redfish is fantastic. I'm a fan of their steaks as well but they do have a very popular prime rib. Definitely try the chicken tortilla soup on a cold day! read more
