The food was on point. I had family in from town and we came here twice because i could watch football and they could drink. Service was not nearly as great of as the food. First time we were there we had track our server down to place an order, she never checked in on us, then tracked her down again to pay our bill. The second time the young lady was a bit better, but when i asked if they had a specific beer and asked if i could keep it in a bottle and not a glass (i knew they had it since my sister got it the day before and put it in a glass) she said she was not sure if they even had it. As soon as I walked in I was hit with a smell that I can't describe. Our drinks arrived fast and we ordered the fried Mac and cheese and they were really good! I ordered the fish n chips and they were just ok. I expected them to be better then they were considering this is a pub. Great Irish/Chicago bar offering lots of drink choices. They have a beer of the month which was Hamms in April for $2...can't go wrong with that. The bartender Chris was so friendly and polite! We were looking for a quick and decently priced meal when out and about for lunch on Saturday. We came across this pub and thought it would be a winner. Although reasonably priced for the area, it wasn't quick. A party of 12 had ordered right before us, so we ended up waiting 45+ minutes for our sandwiches and nachos. Sandwiches and fries came out hot but the nachos were room temp. Our server came over once after about 30 minutes to explain the delay, and we never saw a manager or received any apology for the service. read more

Pretty much the best sports bar you will ever go to. Warning this is an all Chicago themed bar BUT they welcome all fans all the time. Awesome bar with great staff. The owner makes you feel like family. Always great beer selection but more so the food is amazing. Best pub food in Charleston. I usually get the Chicago Beef Sandwich. It's very flavorful. Wings are always too knotch. If your lucky enough to come for a Cubs or bears game be sure to call ahead. It will be slammed but even if you have to stand everyone will make you feel welcomed. Easily my favorite place in all of Charleston. Being from Chicago, finding this place was a welcoming feeling of familiarity. Add the extensive drink menu, phenomenal food, friendly clientele and staff, and the authentic Chicago vibe, and I'm always happy at Mac's. The sweet potato tots are to DIE for- the buttery, marshmallow-y, cinnamon-y dip that comes with them makes them heaven on earth- no other tots compare! The jalapeño poppers are like none I've ever had: the filling is more like a queso dip with bits of jalapeño throughout than a traditional stuffed pepper, and I literally have dreams about them. The staff is fantastic and never bats an eye when I ask if I can change a wrap from chicken to vegetarian, and there's always a variety of sports to watch on the substantially-sized TVs all over the joint. They make it easy to see a few games from any angle, and the high-top booths are my favorites. They have tons of beer and drink choices, with a great list of craft brews. The owner is a super cool guy, and he's from the same neighborhood as me! Went inside. They only had maybe 3 tables and a couple bar guests. No one came to greet. Had to go to the bar and ask for a server after five minutes of standing at the front. Was told that a server would be outside. Waited 15 minutes For someone to come out and they went to a table who sat way after us. Then we waited another 10 minutes and no one came with water or menus. Horrible experience after a long day. Couldn't even get a water. Maybe 15 guest total inside.. Just ridiculous. read more

Cool pub in Charleston. Lots of taps hanging from the ceiling. The food was pretty good - regular old bar food. The waitress was slow as molasses. The service was bad. The place was practically empty and it took FOREVER to get our food. We had a large group, which I understand, but they brought our food out with over a half an hour between people. Wednesday's are $3.50 draft days, they have several including Guinness, and High Life is always $2.50. 4-7 is happy hour every day. Great fried pickles and always great service at the bar. We have never sat at the tables for service but everyone looks content. Have had great burgers and sandwiches when we have tried them. We stop every time we are downtown. read more

We spotted a Blackhawks flag hanging out front and thought 'Chicago bar?! YES!' and walked in. There's plenty of space in the bar to sit, long bar, lots of tables, an area with couches, tvs to watch games, Buck Hunter, dart boards, etc. It was Happy Hour and we were given a HH menu. I use menu loosely because there were no prices on the booze portion of the menu. There were prices next to the food options -- $3.99 for fried okra, fried ravioli, (which are really 4 or 5 mini pizza pockets), friend mushrooms and a few other things. Surprisingly, French fries are not on the happy hour menu. Fine. The 4 of us ordered the okra, shrooms and ravioli and got a round of beers. Both the okra and the mushrooms were hearty portions, and it's fried food, so it's both satisfying and slightly greasy, you know what you're getting into here. The raviolis were delicious, I just wish there were more of them in the order. Oh well. There were a ton of beer and drink options listed on the HH menu with their varying alcohol percentages listed, but there were NO prices. I'm sorry, that's not a menu. I shouldn't have to ask you what each beer costs individually. I know a Chimay is going to cost a lot more than any other beer, why would you list all the beers together on the sheet without pricing them all individually? What really frosts my a (and is the catalyst for this review) is the happy hour menu says, among other deals, $2 Domestic Bottles. Hmmmm...Domestic: of, relating to, or originating within a country and especially one's own country (Merriam-Webster). So I order a Sam Adams and my friend ordered an Abita . When we got the bill, I was charged more than $2 for each of those beers, when I asked my server about it - being that it met the guidelines - it's made in America (ergo domestic) and a bottle of beer, she had no answer for me. She asked another server, who was equally as clueless. In comes lady #3 (maybe a manager) and was told, in a belittling and rude tone that Sam Adams and Abita are craft beers and don't count. Then she said to me 'Corona is also made in America, should that qualify?' and I looked at her and said 'yes, if it's made in America, then it is Domestic.' I don't understand the misuse of the word here. if you want to restrict your HH pricing, that's absolutely up to you as the owner of an establishment, but you can't bamboozle your customers into ordering and then saying, oh sorry that doesn't qualify when there's no separation of listed beers listed on the menu (it was the HH menu after all, they easily could've put asterisks on which beers are 'domestic' by their definition to qualify for the $2 deal) NOR are there prices on the menu to begin with. Conveniently, their online HH menu now doesn't list the $2 Domestic Bottle deal, I'm wondering if they took my advice to heart. I didn't intend for them to remove the deal but rather specify that only Bud, Miller and Coors are included in the $2 deal. Whatever, obviously with their location on E. Bay St, and being attached to hotel, they're only really concerned with shaking down tourists. I just expected more from my Chicago brethren. Boo to you. read more

One of the worst restaurants I've ever been in. Waited 20 minutes to be greeted. Then waitress had an attitude from the start. Many in corrections and she never once said let me take this back and fix, simply said - "I thought you said..." never asked for refills or if we needed anything else. They only get one star for the charger in the bar. The staff was not friendly. The food was awful. The Grilled Mac sandwich my wife received was cold. The fries were underdone to the point of being raw. When we asked the bar tender for hot food she had an attitude. When her food came out we found something hard in the middle of the sandwich which we couldn't identify. Fortunately she was using a knife and fork or she may have hurt herself.
