don't be fooled by the name, this is a decent little pub. +1 for friendly service, even though we only had 1 round. +0 for decent beer selection, but nothing special +1 for location (short north) interior is what you would expect ... lots of wood, large bar, dimly lit. there is a metered lot just north of the building ... enforced daily except sundays and holidays. recommended, but don't expect anything out of the ordinary. read more

We were looking for a place close to our hotel which offered wings, after walking a few blocks we came upon Mac's, reviewed the menu and decided to try it. It had a nice British pub feel, lots of wall decorations, flags of the UK and an extensive beer selection. Our waitress Brittany introduced herself and told us happy hour went until 8pm and all appetizers were 1/2 off. Wings were one of their appetizers, so we both ordered wings, their tater tots with cheese, and a couple of beers. Overall the food was good, atmosphere was pleasant, wasn't loud and obnoxious, and we were served professionally. If you're in the Short North and looking for a nice place that's not presumptuous check out this place. They've got a nice full menu with lots of things we'll try on our return. read more

Not a good experience. It was red white boom but didn't seem more crowded than what you'd expect on a weekend. We were seated immediately and waited on right away. Got our drinks and then the wait began. The waitress kept our glasses full (but soda was a little flat), but it took an hour for a side salad. Hamburger and poppers were ok. Cottage pie (kind of a shepherds pie) was cold. Even if warm it would been so so. Steamed Broccoli side dish and tasty...the best thing we had. All n all disappointing. read more

Beers and burgers. 'Nough said. Food can be awful at times - on more than one occasion the burgers were practically raw (and I didn't order steak tartar!). Prices, though are very reasonable. Specials used to be better, but the prices are so low that it hardly matters. Get the Mac Burger with tater tots and a brew and you'll be fine. read more

I always looked forward to coming here. It was my favorite restaurant. Things have changed. The nachos are totally different and have some cheap cheese sauce. They were terrible. Also, used to love the chicken sandwich. Now it is just chicken tenders with lettuce and tomatoes on a bun. I once loved this place. I will never be back. Loved the Pub atmosphere. Ordered the Cottage Pie and Mac's Burger (bacon, cheese and coleslaw) which my wife and I shared. My daughter had the Mac-n-cheese which she loved...and she is a picky 4 yr old! The entree's were delicious - seasoned well and cooked perfectly to order. Not a fan of the fries or salad, very basic and uninteresting. But didn't really matter because the main dishes were delicious and filling! Washed it down with an IPA and a New Castle. Mac's was awesome before and with the new renovations and updated menu it is even better. Reopening a restaurant is never easy and while there were a few hiccups early on they have those straightened out. The food is delicious and the look and feel of the bar still feels like home with a fresh coat of paint, so to speak. The staff is great and they all go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. To the owners, I say well done on the update to your business, great job keeping the old school charm and mixing in a cool new vibe. LOVE this place. read more

Great happy hour. The club sandwich and tater tots is a favorite. Beware of the hot wings, they are no joke! I love spicy wings but these are not your normal hot wings! I shared some with a fellow hot wing lover and we struggled but loved every minute. The portions are huge. The service can be hit or miss. I just had lunch with friends there and ordered the Cottage Pie. It was one of the worst things I have ever had at a restaurant. One the waitress noticed that I had not eaten it and asked about it I told her that it was very bad. After offering to give me something else which I declined mainly due to the time constraints , they " discounted" my meal instead of taking off that poor excuse for food. A reliable option in the Short North but it's like you're walking into 1990. They serve basic bar food but it's all pretty good. The beers are the boring pub line up: Guinness, Harp, etc.The decor is dated 1990s faux English pub which is kind of hilarious in the uber trendy Short North. The crowd in here is primarily aging, bloated white men, not reflective of the diverse neighborhood at all! The good news is, they serve food later than most places, it's got comfy booths, and there's a pool table hidden way in the back. read more

Just went for the first time since their remodel and it was fantastic. The new decor inside is really nice and definitely an upgrade. I had the turkey blt and my roommate had the Rueben. Mac's Cafe is a great place to get late night food. The kitchen is open every day from 11:00 am until 1:45 am. I highly recommend the 1/2 lb ground chuck hamburger. The Mac Burger (comes with bacon, swiss and cole slaw on the burger) is amazing! You'll also find some great appetizers. The Scotch egg, saurerkraut balls and of course the nachos are delicious! If you're a wing fan, the 'No Refund' high sauce is way over the top. I've taken over 100 friends to Mac's on Tuesday for their $3.95 wing night (1 lb of wings, celery and Bleu Cheese for $3.95) and only 1 person has ever eaten a whole order of the hot wings. As a fan of hot sauce I recommend putting the sauce on the side and just dipping in it as needed. I grabbed a menu and will list some of the specials here. From someone who is definitely a good regular here I can offer one piece of advice. For the best service at Mac's, become a regular. We're treated like Gold. They go above and beyond when it comes to taking care of the people that give them return business. The seating is 'seat yourself' so just walk in and have a seat anywhere you like. If you slide in and you don't think a server saw you sit definitely flag one down. They're pretty good at keeping an eye on that stuff, but sometimes they just miss people coming in. Don't sit so long that you get pissed off, just get up and let someone know if you haven't been greeted within a few minutes. read more

Good beer selection and great bar food. The biggest problem I have with Mac's is every time I go I end up too stuffed from food to keep drinking. Love the tot's (why doesn't more places in Cbus serve tots?) and the mac burger is tasty. It's never too crowded to be overwhelming. Just a solid spot. Was very disappointed in our experience. Despite the apparently old posting on their macscafe.com website which says Happy Hour specials until 8pm, their Happy Hour only goes until 7pm. When we asked the server about this he simply stated that a 3rd party vendor maintains the site and did not honor the prices. Even worse, I got the chicken salad for my meal and found a bone as I bit into it. When I told the server about this there was again no attempt at rectifying, he apologized and that was it. One of my favorite Sunday Funday hotspots. The drink specials are unbeatable, they have Pac Man in back, and it's right in the center of the Short North! The food is great, the bartenders are always really really nice, a great beer/drink selection. The only draw back is that it can get a little dark at times. If it had more sunlight or a patio would be even better. But beggars can't be choosers it's a great place to check out. read more

What happened to mac's it use to be good. Went there tonight with a party of 8, when we were seated there were only a few tables sat and 3 at the bar. We placed our drink order and 20 min later the few alcoholic beverages came out before my ice tea and one others water. We ordered 15 min later another table was seated next to us. With in 20 min their food was out and only 2 people at our table has received their appetizers. Another 3 top was seated but after 15 min of no one waiting on them they left. Finally our food started showing up but just 2 at a time. People were finished with their food when the last person at our table received theirs. One person at our table got a burger that was only half cooked. Three people had onion rings as a side two had large amounts but one person only had 4 rings and came out cold. I had ordered a Ruben which only had about 2 oz of really tough meat. Also the server dropped off a plate of chicken wings at our table that belonged to the table next to us. After experiencing this we all will never be back. read more

Went here with my wife on Thursday July 7 at about 5:00 pm. There is a public metered parking lot right next to Mac's that made it convenient to get there. We seated ourselves in the booth in the back of the restaurant/bar. The booths are nice because they have a really high wooden divided between them to give a good deal of privacy. From 2-8 pm is happy hour (half price appetizers and alcohol specials). She got the sauerkraut balls with a dipping sauce. They were excellent. She also got a Blue Moon on tap. For our main course I got a the grilled salmon sandwich. It was not fresh salmon, but a pre-made patty that was grilled. But it still tasted good. It came with a choice of side and I had a side salad. She ordered the reuben sandwich that was plenty big and her side choice was the fries. The serving of fries was huge! The Columbus area Entertainment book has a coupon for purchasing one meal and getting the second meal free. We used that to get a nice discount. The service was quick and the food pretty good. I had a friend in town last weekend and we wanted food and drinks so I suggested Mac's. This review isn't so much about the food and drinks, as it is about the service. I give it 3 stars because I've had good experiences all the other times I've been there. We had a server named Terri (according to the receipt) who immediately seemed completely uninterested in being our server and maybe just life in general. The first problem was that I asked for Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey on the rocks. She came back and said they didn't have it. Which I thought was strange because I had it the last time I was there. But whatever. She offered an alternative and I said ok. She brought it back and it was a warm shot. LOL. What part of "on the rocks" was confusing? Also, she gave us a drink menu and the beer list had at least 6 beers crossed out in black marker. If these are no longer an option, why not just print new menus? Its not like they were on some fancy paper at all. It was just a regular piece of paper in a plastic sleeve. Tacky. Terri seemed irritated that she'd messed up my drink and that I sent it back. She brought us our food and barely checked on us again. It sucked that my out of town friend's experience with Mac's had to be a negative one. I wont allow just one bad experience to ruin Mac's for me. IDK if she was new or what. but I don't recall ever having her as a server before and if I get her again I will request someone else. read more

By far the worst dining experience ever. Several tables arrived after our party of ten ordered food and they were served and gone before the first person in our party even got food. Using the excuse they got cold food instead of cooked food is unacceptable as well as the over hour wait it took to get our food that was not even cooked all the way through. Orders were either sent back and several orders not even eaten due to the poor quality. Very disappointing to see other customers come in and be seated and them leaving because they could not even get served. I have been to this establishment many times and had good experiences, but tonight's experience shows the obvious decline in quality kitchen and management staff. While I do not blame the server as she could only control so much of the situation, the quasi-management they leave on duty for the evening definitely needs more work on proper customer service skills and running a proper bar. Used to live nearby and I really miss Macs. IMHO, best wings in town if you like'm hot. I order medium with hot sauce on the side. The BEST thing going is the Cellar-temperature Guiness. Be patient! It takes awhile for a good pour, but this is the way Guiness was meant to be. It is the only place I know of in Columbus that does it right. read more
