Bought Mattress. It came soiled. Appears to be oil spots in bottom and sides. Called Macys' and they scheduled "an inspection " 30 days later. NOt happy. MOved mattress to adjacent room, and bought BRAND NEW MATTRES from Mattress Warehouse. I emailed a demand letter to Macy's with a request expedite the non sensical inspection and to pick up mattress. Requested 10 day response. Five days down, Five to go. Not happy. Have spend over 20k at Macy's over the last 10 years, it appears we are heading for a non amicable solution to the problem. This place makes me so sad every time I visit but I still go because they hook me up with sample foundation for 10 days when I'm in the search of a new one, and they're conveniently located on a metro stop. And for that, they get T W O big shiny stars and nothing more. My previous experiences: Upon arrival, almost never is there someone assisting you at your desired counter, and you have to act like a lost bird looking for mama bird. It's so ridiculous because employees will be talking with other employees or friends but won't help you because they're "occupied". They'll make you wait like a loser and they're just laughing away enjoying their conversation. SO IRRITATING. Not sure if this is Macy's style but they should really have set employees with specific specialty in each makeup department. I don't like that they roam around in each department and aren't familiar with the products they're selling. Besides makeup... I've gone to buy clothes, shoes, jewelry, and even chocolate. For each item, every employee there is clueless and the moment you ask a question, they'll answer you with an attitude and pretty much send you to kick rocks. There's a reason online shopping is so popular and it's all because of annoying, pushy and deceptive sales people. A couple weeks ago, I went into Macy's Pentagon City to buy a couple shirts (the only reason I like to go in person to the store, so I can see the shirts in person). I picked out a couple shirts and went to pay for them. It was about $70 when I got to the register, but after I paid the clerk asked if I wanted even more of a discount. Unfortunately, in hindsight, I said yes. He then told me I could get an extra $25 off by just signing up for the program. But he said he would have to just void out the first purchase and ring things up again. He started doing that and then asked for my SSN. At that point, I really should have walked away, but I had already committed. This program was going to cost me $25 now, but I got some coupon for $25 that I could use later. So instead of $70, I ended up paying $95 at the time. I knew I had been taken right away, but I just got my statement and the full $70 of the first purchase had not been fully cancelled. I have to track down my receipts now and fight this. Never let their cashiers talk you into any of their programs at the register. It is all a scam. I blame myself for this, but I am never stepping inside a Macy's store again. read more

I've been annoyed at Macy's for quite some time, and my most recent visit might be my last. Every month, I receive coupons in the mail associated with my Macy's credit card. However, anytime I try to purchase anything there, it is excluded from the coupon. Everyone is always saying that there are sales, but that's because they jack up the price and then put the items on discount. During my most recent visit I picked out 2 dress shirts and a belt. When I brought it over to the register, the sales representative kept insisting that my neck size was a 15.5, even though I got the 16.5 neck size. All the dress shirts I have in my closet are 16.5. How would he know with not even measuring me? I'm a grown man, I think I know my neck size. Nevertheless, he rings up the 2 shirts with the belt, and it comes out to about $100. I ask about the coupons, and of course he states that the coupons can't be used because the items are on sale. I told him that my coupons are never valid, no matter what the situation is, and that he could keep the clothes. I will take my business elsewhere. A lot of Macy's have been closing down recently, and it makes perfect sense. They send coupons that are pretty much invalid on every item with the exceptions of a couple no name brands. I hope Macy's goes out of business. I believe the only other place I have wished that on is PF Changs. read more

For me, this Macy's is a hit or a miss. I am sometimes able to find stuff that is not available in other local Macy's. But sometimes the shopping experience disappoints :( Staff and service are the same way - it is more on the individual than a Macy's level of service which is baffling - why is the store manager not paying attention? This store is smaller then typical Macy stores but its sufficient. They have ok selection, the sales associates are sometimes really annoying (who isnt?) - like when i need help ill look for you but don't bombard me with your sales pitch. Godsh! I love their Friends & Family sales usually 25% off everything with some exceptions that leads to really great deals. However, the place can be a utter mess like all the pillows ended up on the floors and all the sheets in the wrong places. Many associates were helpful and they have a nice wedding registry thing going on especially if you are trying to buy someone a gift. We had our friends registry printed out and it told us the exact price- made finding a gift easier. read more

Don't make alterations to your clothes here. The tailor is very rude and irresponsible. I purchased a formal dress at Macy's and I thought it would be a good idea hemming it in the same place. It needed just 1 inch, but it was for a very special occasion and I wanted to look my best (it was my best friend's wedding and it was abroad). Before charging me $48 for that simple task I told the tailor I needed it before a certain date because I was going to travel. He told me he could have it the day before (I thought he was overestimating the time it would take him because we were one week and a half ahead... but I agreed). When I went to pick up my dress it was untouched... he didn't do his job at all and he wasn't even there that day at the store. I couldn't believe that nobody called me and told me to take it somewhere else if they were not able to do it. The manager offered me a full refund and $20 for taking the dress somewhere else. Now I believe I will have to travel with the dress as it is and hope I can find a fast and more reliable tailor back at home. Please don't come here and take your clothes to somewhere else. I'm sure you will be able to find a more reliable and even cheaper place for making alterations. read more

One of the staff in the jewelry area stepped aside with another employee and mumbled "This tranny is stressing me out" referring to me. Took 2 days to speak with the store manager. Had to come in person because I couldn't get her on the phone. Was met with hostility and she continued talking over me when I informed her of what the employee said. She then went on a rant about how my struggle as a trans woman was nothing compared to her struggle as a black person. Everyone knows Macy's so there's not too much to say. I came here this afternoon in search of a memory foam pillow because I didn't know I had back problems until I had a baby. Now all day, everyday, my back hurts and I spend so much time time sitting in various chairs with him, I figured I need to buy a good back pillow or I'll be paying much more for frequent massages in the future. As expected, I found the pillow area myself and also as expected, no help was found anywhere. I tried a few different pillows against the wall sitting down-no one came by to offer assistance. What gets the 3 stars is basically the pricing-$70 pillow for $21. I've used it several times already today and am satisfied. I also purchased some Carters infant clothes while here-really good deals of 60-65% off! Downside: had coupons I couldn't use on anything because they can't be used on sale items. Of course I'll shop here again-department store options within walking distance are Macy's or Nordstrom's; choices are not particularly plentiful. read more

They had a pretty decent selection of the regular sort of bra, but nothing backless. I would have asked a salesperson, but there was NO ONE to be seen. Not a single person in lingerie, pajamas, or the clothing section nearby. I'm pretty sure I could hear crickets chirping. I perused the makeup section downstairs with similar experience: no one to be found anywhere. Here's a tip: if you've spent the time between December 23rd - January 1st eating and drinking yourself out of the clothes you currently own, DO NOT go to Macy's (or any department store, really) on January 2nd because you had the brilliant idea to try on dresses for a party that you need to attend on January 7. I'm not blaming Macy's for my 8 extra lbs of holiday cheer, however, I am blaming Macy's for their dressing rooms that would make you think you're in communist Russia (the doors hardly shut and they are so flimsy a baby could kick them in; there are gaps in the slats; some rooms don't have hooks to hang the clothes; someone's dirty sock was left on the floor ... you get the idea). I'm also blaming Macy's for lighting so bad that I think even my toes had cellulite on them. I didn't know that was possible, but Macy's told me that it was...quite. Add to all that the frustration when nothing fit or looked good (surprising!) and I could understand why the "discard" rack for the dressing room clothes looked like someone had taken a few prison sized laundry bins and lobbed a grenade into them all at once. My first visit to this Macy's was for their "Sip and Scan Registry Event". I thought there wasn't a better way to start our wedding registry than by sipping on mocktails and munching on hors d'oeuvres while a DJ plays music as you point that scan gun uncontrollably. The event itself was okay, but semi awkward at times. Once you see an associate and provide them with your wedding details, they give you a scanner and send you on your way. There's a mini table with mocktails on them (two kinds, don't really remember what they were...that's how good they were). For quite some time, we didn't see any hors d'oeuvres, so I thought there weren't going to be any. But just at that moment when you decide to pick a large box to check out the details of the dinnerware or your in mid scan, someone comes up to you and asks if you want a bite. They have various representatives from different companies around to answer questions on their products, which was nice. However, it is awkward when you just spent 10 minutes talking to them about their cookware and then you decide to add another brand to your registry instead. Oh well. Sales associates were on hand to help you find specific products when needed, which was nice. Overall, the event was okay. This Macy's had a larger selection of household appliances and goods than other Macy's I've been to. Also, seeing the different products in person, rather than just online, was great as well. My second visit was for the Macy's completion discount...20%! Woot! Came back to return a couple items and purchase a few products off our registry. Returning gifts was painless, although you can only return them in the registry department. Sales associates not working in the registry department on this floor seem to be completely unaware and nonchalant about their jobs. I was having a hard time finding a particular dinnerware to complete the set, so I asked an associate for help. He stated that finding that brand might be a problem because they only have dinnerware in white. Well, okay, I can already see that for myself but you had it last time...can you look it up and tell me what Macy's in the area has it?! He found a nearby Macy's that had the amount I needed, proceeded to call them with no results. He told me that only the registry department call dial out. Hello...why did you bother to even call then if you knew this? O M G It then took me another 5 minutes to try to get him to tell me what location had them. So, do yourself a favor. If you're here for your completion discount and can't find a product, just go to the registry department for help. BTW-2 hour validation with in-store purchase. Rob O's review is spot-on. Macy*s is a mess, and particularly at P City. Most days, but especially during sales, there's always lots of stuff lying on the floor. The employees range from disinterested to hostile, and the last time I was there, a woman in line behind me to pay started talking garbage about me and tried to pick a fight. Department stores often threaten to kill my love for shopping. Years of worship at the altar of Nordstrom and its peasant cousin, Nordstrom Rack, have me biased when it comes to Macy's. I just can't bring myself to spend $200 on a BCBG dress I know I can get for $70 if I wait a few weeks; on the flipside I'd rather spend more and get something unique and gorgeous at a store that doesn't feel so "big box." Additionally, you have to put in just as much work here as you do when you're bargain-shopping anyway. To find something you like, in your size, at Macy's takes just as much effort as rack-digging at an outlet store. I know I've been shopping at the Rack for too long because I was actually repulsed when a woman approached in the shoe department. My knee-jerk reaction was "Get the fuck away from me!" Everything at this location is mediocre. No beautiful, high-end shoes, bags or dresses. Think Lauren, DKNY, BCBG, Alfani, Nine West, Guess, etc. My love for Clarins and the new Rachel Roy street line earn Macy's two stars, but other reviewers are right--this location is a mess. read more

I came to Macy's with my parents to buy a birthday present for my sister. We wanted to get her a Coach photo keyring that was on sale. It was locked in a case, so we waited by the register for a sales associate to come help us. After about 10 minutes, a sales associate came over to the counter, then walked off?! We thought that maybe she was going to come back to help us, so we continued to wait. Another 10 minutes passed, and no sales associate. We finally flagged down an associate in another department, but he was unable to help us because he did not have the right key. He said he would get someone else to help. Finally, another associate came over to help us. She tried every key on her, but was unable to open the case. She said the case door was jammed and asked if we could come back another time. We came back to the store two days later and, of course, the item was sold out. This store should get a negative rating. Customer service is nonexistent. I am trying to give them my money and they are too lazy to take it. read more

This is a re-review that I never dreamed I would write, because this Macy's used to be the nadir of retail: indifferent staff, abhorrent customer service (I called it "customer torture" in 2011), and a messy, dirty store that looked like a bomb had hit it. I give credit where credit is due. This store is clearly under new management and has cleaned up its act. I was shocked that the store is now clean, orderly, and that the staff seemed to have had an attitude adjustment. Maybe the fact that Macy's is losing money and closing lots of stores was the wake up call that was needed. On a busy Saturday, I was so impressed that all the clothes were neatly folded and that I passed at least three employees who were diligently making sure all the displays looked presentable. What was the end result? I enjoyed shopping here and bought things, which I haven't done in years. Macy's, if you read this, please know that customers notice these kinds of changes, and they dramatically improve the shopping experience. Good job, folks! read more

All locations to be exact. This is one place where I buy me pantaloons, oxfords and other accoutrements. I like the department stores because of the variety of brands carried. So if I like Docker wrinkle free slacks, Calvin Klein boxers {no tighty whiteys on me...sorry :)}, Perry Ellis shirts, Rockport shoes, and a Kenneth Cole attache case for my unimportant job, I don't have to go to five different stores. Plus I can make more interesting and creative outfit combos. Also department stores are allowed to experiment more by purchasing new and less commercial lines of clothing (i.e. Nick Danger etc.). AND the clothes go on sale much more often - never pay full price! You'll get ripped off. You know those shirts at Banana Republic that are $68? They buy those shirts for $3 each!! I was just checking out some face watch for men and Brad was very knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. Very different from what I've seen in the cosmetic world. If you are shopping for Men's skincare, be sure to come see him. I am a fan! Other than that, I feel the staff here are very friendly. I've never had bad experiences here. I think all the other reviewers are expecting way too much. This is Macy's, not Louis Vuitton. If you want to pay 1500 for a bag then yes, you deserve the best customer service. A great experience in the men's department, very very helpful in finding what was needed. Women's as well, although they aren't as attentive as the Tyson's location. Sorry to say, but service in women shoes is AWFUL. They don't greet you, they talk to each other as you stand at the counter to check out or ask for help, and good luck tracking someone down to get some shoes for you. read more

I can't believe an incident like this in one of your stores has now gone unacknowledged by the store manager and by corporate: Good morning, I was shopping the Macy's at Pentagon City Fashion Center in Arlington, Virginia and was assaulted by another customer. I had previously been in the women's department picking up a few items and then went to the shoe department to purchase a few pairs of your INC heels and boots when a woman who was being helped by one of your associates started screaming and yelling. I was on the phone with my sister and had to step to the other side of the shoe department because she was screaming so loud and my sister could still hear her over the phone. I witnessed the associate trying to help her the best he could and she wouldn't stop screaming. She eventually walked away as he went to the back to get something she requested and when he came out she wasn't there so he started helping me. He informed me that they didn't have the shoes at your store that I was looking for, even though online said you did, so I asked if I could simply checkout with the items I pick up from the women's section and he graciously agreed. At the moment he started checking me out the woman walked back and started screaming again that she wanted to speak to a manager and that he was discriminating against her and that I was also discriminating against her because he was helping me now! Then she proceeded to walk up to me and started lunging at me and my clothing, shocked, I told her to step back. She started screaming at me not to touch her but I never touched her and I told her not to touch me and to not touch my items and she started screaming her head off. I told her I was going to call the police and associate said that he had already called security and the manager so I hung up the phone but the police called me back I reassured them that Macy's and called security and she continued to scream. She stepped to the side to continue screaming and the associate pawned me off to another associate while he went to attend to her. After a while security still hadn't come and I asked the associate where security was and he told me that they were watching her on the security TV right now, I asked to still speak to a manager and they called the manager three times and the manager never came. This is totally unacceptable when your customer is assaulted in your store; no matter what the managers doing they need to prioritize somebody being assaulted and security being involved. I waited for about 15 to 20 minutes and no manager came down so I asked to see security again and once again no security came down. I am still rattled this morning and don't know how to handle the situation, but this is my neighborhood Macy's and I shouldn't be terrified to walk in because of crazy people screaming at me and insulting me. Also, this shows a huge lack on management within the store: A. They couldn't come to assist me B. The associate continue to help this woman instead of asking her to leave. I worked in sales for a very long time at a mall and our managers made it very clear that if somebody was disrespectful to us we have the right to ask them to leave. Therefore I wonder what the management qualities and techniques are at Pentagon City Macy's location; no sales associate should have to put up with that. I don't know if I'm more upset for me for that associate. Needless to say, I left the store and continued my errands within the mall but eventually came back to return the items I just bought because they felt so tainted from the experience. The last several times I've been it feels like a high volume discount store. Sizes are difficult to find, it's overcrowded, a mess and the staff is not friendly or helpful. Meh, It's better than the Macys in Temple Hills, but still not the best. The PLus size section is an unorganized mess and it seems like the lighting is darker over there. The customer service is sort of lacking. The staff almost seem like they don't want to be there. The shoe department if pretty nice. I've always gone to the same guy there and he's always on it. I love that they have a Mac Counter there in the middle of everything. The girls there are always helpful including the women in the scents department. You can get a free parking validation if you purchase anything from there, but you have to go to the second flood towards the doors to the garage and there is somewhere there who will validate for you. Don't buy furniture at Macy's. The delivery and return/exchange process are unbelievably bad due to corporate policies. We ordered a bed frame and mattress. Naturally, they couldn't be delivered together. When the bed frame arrived, a queen headboard and king bed rails were delivered. Sorry, those don't go together. We had to wait two more weeks for the proper rails, and Macy's would not allow the delivery guys to take the incorrect product back. They had to leave it at my house. The delivery of the bed ended up taking 5 separate Macy's deliveries. Fast forward to almost a year later. Our mattress was horrible (and it was a $3k top of the line mattress). To Macy's credit, they sent out an inspector who confirmed that the mattress was defective and they agreed to replace it. On delivery date, do you think k the delivery people were authorized to take the old mattress? Nope, of course not. That is a separate delivery company. Do you think I can dispose of the old, defective mattress on my own? Nope, of course not. If I did that, I'd have to pay Macy's $3k for failing to return the mattress. Instead I just have to keep a giant extra mattress in my tiny home with two tiny babies running around. (It would be fun if we had space to lay it down and let the kids play on it, but we don't.) My house is not a Macy's delivery warehouse -- stop treating it that way. And in case you were wondering, yes -- Macy's was rude and yelled at me when I asked if I could donate the mattress to Goodwill instead of returning it. Bunch of dicks. read more

The petites department in this Macy's always looks as if it's just had a bomb dropped on it. I mean, seriously -- no matter what time of the day or what time of the year I go, it always looks like it was just hit with something from which the staff has not fully recovered. I don't understand why they can't hire one additional staff member whose job it could be to provide emergency disaster relief and recovery for all the racks, but I digress.... If you're a petite fashionista (5'4" and shorter), you should keep this place on your short list. They always have a pretty substantial selection of INC Petites, Style and Co. Petites, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Petites, and Michael Kors Petites for us 20 and 30-something petites. (There's also a Jones New York Petites, August Silk Petites, and other styles aplenty for the more mature petites among us as well.) I highly recommend this as a good place for denim jeans if you aren't shopping for a custom-made or designer pair. There are at least 2 or 3 different petites denim brands, and the prices are always reasonable -- with most pairs topping out at $40. You can find petite jeans in bootcut, skinny, flare, and straight-leg styles. And--even better--some brands are sized in Petite and Petite Short. So for example, the 4PS has an even shorter inseam than the 4P in the exact same style. (Hello! Finally someone understands that some petites need 27" inseams, others need 29" or 30"!!!! We may all be short, but we are not all equally short!) The one caveat about this place is that the pricing is pretty much hit or miss. I'll go in one day and not see hardly anything I'd be willing to pay full price for. But I could come back two months later and (like I did last night) find that a large part of the stock is on sale for up to 70% off. (For example, I scored a $50 top for only $6.60, and I picked up four other cute petites pieces for a total of $85!) read more

Sales associate do not want to help customers. I came for an online return with a receipt and went to three 'customer service' desk. All associates kept sending me to a different department to return my item. The manager was paged and never came waited longer then 15min. Ended up leaving and now I'm here writing a review. I was transferred to 7 different extensions to determine if they had an item (that was on their website) in stock in the store so I didn't waste 20 minutes driving there to buy it only to find they didn't have it. The operator finally transferred me to the store's customer service person, who said they were going to page a manager and then just hung up on me. Why should I pay inflated department store prices when that is how much they value customers? I feel sorry for whoever is head of sales for them in the corporate office...hard to run a successful business when you have idiots working at the very bottom. I'm not going to Macy's for the customer service and I try to be a low maintenance customer but sheesh. I've once paid for my things only to have the cashier walk away w out warning & with my item (to remove a tag, get a bag, or something) and start chatting it up with another employee while I'm standing at the register in a hurry to leave. I had to call to her to say I'm in a bit of a rush for her to wrap up her personal conversation and bring my item back to me. Then I went bra shopping and thought it would be reasonable to ask the associate who works in that area which brands would carry my size. She listed two and I clarified that those were the only two and she confirmed. I found another brand that carried my size and when she walked past me I said "hey this brand also carries it, if you think of any others please let me know. It's really difficult to find what I'm looking for". She said this time that those were the only three, no others would have the size. So what do you know, I stumbled across a fourth brand. And the two bras I purchased were the brands she didn't mention. In a departments store with hundreds of bras that aren't organized in an intuitive fashion, and where I'd end up paying well above what I would consider affordable or fair, I think it would be nice to be honestly told "I don't know" or have someone take a few seconds to find out an answer. Another weird thing, but mostly to the associates disadvantage, is that there aren't any garment racks at the entrance of the fitting rooms in some areas. So you either leave everything in the fitting rooms or wander around returning everything where you found them. Whomp. read more

Some of employees in men part are not helpful and can't help me to find items. One of them didn't speak with me just by eyes I have to find my items. Many dresses over there were used specially in clearance part. read more

I was here earlier today. Only friendly staff members are on the cosmetics counters. On the clothing departments, both men and women, hardly any staff available. And if there is any staff, they are busy talking to each other and pretend you're not there if they noticed you need help and when you dare asking them, you'll have to wait until they finish their conversation. Customer service is non existing in the DC area, especially in retail. I hope in future they install self scanning registers, the computer will probably provide better service. But let's say something positive: the store was organized and there is always some kind of sale. read more

Spent 1.5 hours in this Macy's trying on clothes. It was a disorganized mess, clothes were splayed everywhere, the dressing rooms hadn't been cleaned (I found a used coffee cup, hair pins, and an array of other dirty crap in there). My sole purpose for being there was to find a pair of black trousers, which would seem like a simple enough task, but instead I ended up walking aimlessly trying to find some in various random places, and when I did the selection was crappy. Back to the dressing rooms-- I went into 3 different dressing rooms, and no one was staffing them. I don't know how effective their "theft prevention division" is, when no one is there to monitor the dressing rooms. I gave up on the pants after an hour and looked for shoes. There were multiple people on the floor in the shoe dept. but no one would help me. Luckily, I found the shoes I wanted already boxed up. But alas, the box was missing a shoe. I went up to the front to try and get someone to help me, one woman working made eye contact and I started to wave her down, but she then proceeded to go help someone else. The man who eventually helped me, took 15 minutes to finally come back and ring me up, and only did so after restocking some shoes in the displays. The only reason why this place is getting 2 stars as opposed to 1 is the fact that this guy gave me an extra discount for waiting around. But his people skills genuinely sucked. read more
