If I were reviewing the Men's and Home store, they would get four stars, and if I were reviewing the Women's store they would get between 1 and 2 stars - hence my 3 star average. Shopping in the Men's store is always a pleasure, although they could do with more cashiers no matter what day or time we shop there. However, when you do find a cashier they are usually very helpful and will often find a coupon you can use for your purchase. Recently bought luggage from this store and had to walk all around the store to find a cashier, eventually finding one over in the kitchen department. He had a line and told us this was only his second or third day working there. You would not have known since he was polite, courteous and apologized for the wait. We had a coupon on our phone which we wanted to try, and although he said it would be unlikely to work on this item, he was willing to try it and it did work so I am glad he gave it a try. Experiences shopping at the Women's store could not be more different. Whenever I check out they constantly ask me to open a Macy's card and refuse to give up, to the point where I will only shop there now if I really can't find an item somewhere else. I recently experienced a cashier asking me no less than three more times to open a Macy's card, after I had politely declined the first time. I understand they need to try to get as many people signed up for their store card as possible, but I wonder if they realize that some, like me, will avoid shopping there because of this pressure to sign up for something they don't want. read more

I always shopped in Macy's. I can find everything I need. In thousand oaks is pretty beautiful place. I should say 2 beautiful places.

There was a lady that worked at this location that kindly helped me in pre-ordering a jacket for my boyfriend for his Christmas present. He wanted the Buffalo Leather Jacket and the store didn't have it in his size unfortunately, so we had to place an order. Kindly, even though the lady didn't have to, she helped me get free shipping even though I was already getting 25% off with the pre-order of the jacket. The jacket regularly costs 136.00 plus tax. I had found it on their website for $82.99, so she kindly price matched it as well as allowed me to try to use an ADDITIONAL 20% off coupon to purchase it. The jacket came in the mail in a very time efficient manner and I want to thank that lady for her kindness as an employee. Even though she was supposed to be cleaning her department in preparation for black friday, as well as clocking out for the day, she stuck around to help me out. read more

So. I was just at the Chanel cosmetic counter and had the worst service. A completely absorbed( not surprising) girl who helped everyone before me. I only needed to buy a specific product and basically didn't need a lot of help. But this chic was incredibly rude along with her friend who mayb worked at Bobbi Brown but i can't say that part for sure. Anyway. I'm tempted to return my product and repurchase it at Nordstrom. I'm very disappointed with this particular furniture department. I purchased a $800 sleeper sofa bed ON DECEMBER 5th 2018. I opened a AMEX Macy's card I also bout extra 5 years warranty for my sofa .. so I did all Macy's wants from a dumb Customer to do .. make them more money .. well it's January 8th 2019 and I do not have my sofa .. I spoke to the department manager and pretty much got mmm crickets out of him about the delivery date ... I called several times but got no where but to a customer service number got know what county it was .. a few weeks latter I went and look for the store manager Mr Hernandez .. well I'm still waiting on his I will call you myself phone call.. my question is this people why would you put and item on the floor if you do not have it in stock or please put a sing (GOOD LUCK WITH THIS VENDOR ) as a paying costumer of course I'm upset .. I called and the woman in the Philippines took my whole ss number over the phone and when it still didn't work, she didn't know what to do, so she just hang up on me! Went to the Estee Lauder counter yesterday and was impressed with the excellent customer service I received from Barbara and Armenia. They acknowledged me right away even though they were both busy, then spent a lot of time helping determine what products would work best for me. I also witnessed the expert and courteous service they provided to other customers while I was there. Today I am thrilled with the products I bought and plan to return soon. read more

I cannot emphasize enough how much this Macy's is absolute GARBAGE. And shame on me for going only to be disappointed once again. I entered Macy's and headed to the MAC counter to purchase some refills of my makeup. Not a single employee to be found. No big deal, I thought. I will just do my other shopping in the mall and come back. On my way out I noticed the children's items were on sale so I stopped and grabbed 3 items. The checkout counter in the children's section was not staffed but I noticed a couple waiting to checkout. I found an employee and asked if she could ring us up and she said no, we would have to go to the dress department. There were two cashiers there each helping a customer, one person ahead of me in line. No exaggeration when I say I waited there for TWENTY minutes for these two simple purchase transactions to be completed. I could not believe that the cashiers would not say anything to myself or the other customer waiting. A simple "Sorry for the wait" or "We'll be with you shortly" would have made me less irate about the whole situation. However, that was not the case. When it was finally my turn, there were now 3 people behind me in line. I approached the open cashier and she had the nerve to hassle me about if I was next in line because there was a line of people-SERIOUSLY?! I had been standing there for 20 minutes!! I almost lost it. If she had even glanced up or had any self awareness she would've seen me standing in line for so long along with the woman in front of me. But there was not a single ounce of awareness between the two cashiers. Just absolutely clueless. She rang me up and gave me my bag (forgot to bag one of my items, which I grabbed myself). As if this wasn't enough, after hitting a few other stores in the mall, I headed back to the MAC counter in Macy's where there were 2 other women searching around for help. I asked if they needed an associate and they said yes and I informed them that I was there earlier and there was no one to help then either. I decided I would find what I needed from MAC and take it to the shoe department register, however all the stock drawers were locked. Left, without my items. YET ANOTHER disappointing Macy's experience. I now remember why I despise this store so much and I will not be doing any further business there. I was here retuning a pair of pants. I bought a dress with the refund. I was quite pregnant, no problem. But when I walked up to the register, the salesclerk went apoplectic. "Oh my god are you like due TODAY??" "No, 6 weeks to go." "Oh my god you're HUGE!!" A couple of months ago I bought a bed from Macy's and the sale person guaranteed me that we could return it within 3 weeks with no questions asked. Seemed like a great deal so we bought the $2000 bed. We slept on it for 1 week and there were already serious body impressions of about 3/4 of an inch. Macy's sent out someone to investigate and he confirmed the problem and said it was most likely a defect and reported back to them. Macy's declined to allow us to return our mattress and said the impressions had to be around 1.5 inches to return the bed. They ended up charging us around $200 to return the bed that we slept on for a couple of weeks. *** I will NEVER EVER buy anything from this company again. This Macy's doesn't even deserve one star. I worked there for about 5 months as a saleswomen in Chanel. I have never worked retail in my life but I was so excited to work for my favorite brand. When I say this place is ran like garbage, that is an understatement. I have never ever dealt with such nasty, disrespectful, bullies in my life! And I'm talking about management. I would always be yelled at for the way I dressed or not wearing make up because apparently that's mandatory? I was definitely singled out working at that store. The Chanel manager straight up lied about me to try to get my fired just before she put in her 2 weeks, how coincidental. I get called to the office but she was never called to give her side of the story. That place was soooo unbelievably toxic to the point I would rather be unemployed then walk into the place just to be grilled or judged or bullied. I just want to say if you are looking to work in retail, literally go anywhere else because this place is a joke. They let so many people go February 2021 I guess because the store was failing so terribly ‍ I wonder why that is.... and another thing! I never ever got my employee discount! You are entitled to a 20% off discount and I never ever got it in the 5 months I worked there. I called customer service about 20 times just to be told the person who hired me did my codings wrong.... another coincidence!!!! I bought all my Christmas presents there under the impression I would have 20% taken off and even on the days of the extra employee Discount of 40% off cosmetics and 50% off fragrances! So I was screwed out of that money too and haven't been able to get my money back. The whole store is ran like garbage. It scared me from ever working retail again, the cosmetics manager was such a miserable nasty person who I guess had a problem that I was hired by Chanel and not her! After 37 years and we have a closing our Macy's account because they refused to except an defective item for return, stating they would be unable to resell the item. The store manager Dil Hernandez rather than care and that we are leaving as a long-term customer agreed with the store policy. I can no longer tell if I am in Macy's target or Walmart. Went this morning when Macy's opened at 11am. I was returning an on-line Lancome make up order which apparently came with a "free gift" which I DID NOT WANT OR CHOOSE, IT JUST CAME WITH THE PURCHASE. I threw away the "free gift" so when I went to return the foundation, the Lancome sales person "INCI" said she couldn't refund my order without the "free gift". I told her I disposed of that crap, so I asked to speak to a manager. INCI told me she was the "manager", but she had Alison VanHouser help me out. After waiting for 30 minutes, finally Alison had given me a return credit on my credit card for my return. Why it took so long, I have no idea. This is the WORST customer service (from "INCI") I have ever received. I will never buy from Macy's again! I even told both "INCI" and Alison to write down what my "free gift" was and I would go to Nordstrom and get it there and bring it to them so I could get my refund. Just silly. I will be contacting Del Hernandez ( Alison told me he is THE store Manager, but was on "Holiday") and I will also be writing a letter to corporate. I am so disappointed with the treatment my boyfriend and I received on 6/9/19. My parents purchased my boyfriend two shirts from Macy's in Northern California. They were mailed to us directly from the store. We received two packages. One shirt came with a receipt and the other shirt did not have a receipt. Unfortunately, both shirts were too small. I called and asked Macy's TO if we would be able to exchange or get store credit for a gift that was mailed directly to us from another Macy's that did not have a receipt. I was told, yes, we could exchange or get store credit. We went on 6/9/19 with both shirts and went to the first customer service desk we could find, which happened to be in the women's department. I explained to the woman at the customer service counter exactly what happened and said that we had one shirt with no receipt and wondered if we could get store credit. She was extremely helpful and understanding and issued a gift card for us. Then we asked where the men's department was for the second shirt. She said it was in a different building. We left and went to the men's department to see if they had the second shirt in a larger size. Again, we went straight to customer service counter and re-explained exactly what happened and asked if we could exchange the gift for a larger size. Unfortunately, they didn't have the shirt in a larger size. So, we asked if we could get store credit. I gave the girl the receipt. Or at least what I thought was the correct receipt. She asked another man for assistance. I explained to the man that the shirt was one of two mailed to us from Macy's in Northern California as a gift and gave the receipt. Apparently I mixed the receipt with the wrong shirt. The receipt belonged to the other shirt we had just returned. He told me this. I said I only was mailed one receipt and that is the only receipt I have. I said the two shirts were mailed directly from Macy's, so it should be in the system. He said without proof of purchase we could only receive store credit. I said that is fine. That is all we wanted. Such a waste of time talking in circles. Then he asks my boyfriend for his photo ID and phone number??? Then says we will be mailed a "mail tender." Why did we receive such different treatment at the same Macy's store? One gift got returned easily with no receipt (even though apparently I had the receipt for that shirt the whole time) and we get issued a gift card. Then, the second gift with the wrong receipt we get hassled and apparently have to be issued a mail tender? This was all at the same Macy's! Macy's mailed the gifts directly to us, and this is how we are treated when all we are trying to do is get store credit because they didn't fit??? Never shopping at Macy's again. read more

I went in the store at 7:30, was at the register to make my final purchase 15 minutes before it closed, I am not at all blaming the checkout person who was wonderful, but we did not get done until 801. At that point I had to walk outdoors around the mall with my small children because they had locked all of the other exit doors and I literally had to hike through parking lot, down sketchy stairs to get back to my car. These people are incompetent from top to bottom. My wife bought an expensive watch and they were kind enough to put it on a plan where she could pay it off in 1 year. Very thoughtful of them. So far they have charged her 3 times for the watch and she is no longer able to use her Macy's card for purchases. She spent an hour today on the phone to get it straightened out (this has been going on for 1 month). We bought a Sealy Mattress and have to admit that we threw away close to $2,000.00. It sags, it has lumps, and neither Macy's nor Sealy care. Macy's sent someone over to take measurements and it fell short by 1/2 inch of being defective. Meantime, we can't use it. Macy's says it's Sealy's policy and Sealy's says its Macys policy. I would suggest that if you want service that you don't use Macy's and you don't buy a Sealy's mattress. I was a customer of Macy's for my whole life - not any more. Go to Costco instead who stands behind everything they sell. read more

I see 2-3 old folks walking but no one was interested in asking you what i want . I think they were out of energy or may be they did enough sale so that they can relax or so. donno but i felt i was neglected. Every customer will first try and ask questions then decide later may be next day. As this big decision mattress not like t-shirt you like or not you take it. Be Careful of this Macy's sales associate charging your credit card on file WITHOUT your permission. Do NOT leave credit card on file with them and always ask for e-receipt. Here's what happened and why I recommend the above. On July 12, 2019, 6:30pm PDT, I received two email alerts from my Visa card company indicating a $504 charge had been made at Macy's in Thousand Oaks, CA. I also received an e-receipt for this $504 charge, which was for 3 Dior Beauty items. While I have shopped at this store before (3 months ago), that day & night, I had not physically been at this store, nor had I call this store to order anything by phone nor mobile app. Immediately I called Macy's Thousand Oaks, asked for the Dior Cosmetic counter. The associate who answered my call, Lydia, immediately knew what I was talking about and reversed the transaction. She apologized and said that the charge was made by a new hire. It sounded very suspicious that I did not say my name but she knew who I was and was able to reverse the charge immediately. She claimed this new hire had charged the purchase to me instead of another client with the same name. There may be other clients with the same first and last names. But is it not normal security practice to verify the customer's name, address, and credit card information (maybe with last 4 digits of the card being used and the CVV code) BEFORE ringing up the the purchase, whether the purchase is in person or by phone? This "mistake" created A LOT OF INCONVENIENCE FOR ME. I spent three hrs that evening calling my credit card company to cancel my old credit card because if it happened once, it could happen again (e.g. Macy's ringing up charges on my card without my permission!). Now I have to wait 2-5 business days for a new credit card to be issued. I also had to update 9 other accounts that use this old credit card with another card number and also all the hotel & rental car reservations that are directly billed to my old credit card. I wonder what this mistake costs the Macy's Thousand Oaks store. My credit card company will not pay the fraudulent charge of $504. Either the store or associate would be responsible, yes? Having a credit card on file with a store is SUPPOSED to make it easier for the client to make future purchases. It is not intended for sales associates to abuse and create inconvenience for the customer. read more

This Macys has the best selection of Free People clothing. Maybe even a better selection than the Free People store, and they always have sales on their clothes. Went to the Macy's home department and roam around the store for over 30mins without anyone asking me if I needed help, instead they would just stare at my sister and I. When I finally came to purchase some towels I went up to the cash register without anyone waiting in line. Stood in front of two cashier ladies just chatting away completely ignoring the fact that we were ready to purchase our items. They didn't even have the decency to say hello or ask us to wait a sec which I wouldn't mind because I have all the patience in the world. In this case I felt I was discriminated took my things and had to go upstairs to find another register. My little sister was very hurt by it. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because when we were at the shoe department the kind man treated us and helped us properly. read more

I went to the women's Macy's this past week. I stopped at the jewelry section, as I was looking for a birthday gift for my mom. As I'm walking towards the area I notice the employees were already being rude to one customer. So as I approached they did not acknowledge me with no eye contact or with a comment, " will be right with you". I figure I'll give them five minutes and if not taking my business somewhere else. So I'm waiting and listening they are giving the other customer a hard time about a return on an item she just purchased with no receipt. I'm sorry but some people NEED to learn customer service and please make that with a smile if you want my business. Just by observing the two ladies at the counter (employees) that turned me off and yes, I took my business somewhere else. Macy's you need to implement customer service big time! At this location. Not the first time i've seen am employee being rude to a customer in this department and the shoe department. I went somewhere else where I ended up paying more but had good customer service and with a smile. I hate Macy's, but I must give this one props because it provided me with my dress for Adult Prom recently. After years of boycotting this particular Macy's for various reasons (it took over older department stores which I actually DID like; it took up TWO department store spots in the mall, which just seemed full of hubris; it was nearly impossible to find ANYTHING in it ANYWHERE; etc etc etc) I finally gave in and tried on a few dresses here in a last-ditch effort to find an evening gown I did not hate. And find one I did! Now here's where the 3 stars come in: The dresses were $280, but the one I tried on in my size was marked down to $160. No idea why. We couldn't find a flaw on it. We asked the lady at the checkout, and she didn't know why either. She looked it up in the computer and it rung up normal price. BUT she gave it to us for $160 anyway! Hallelujah! Any dress that is $120 cheaper than it should be is OK by me, but this dress was actually pretty to boot! When I was wearing it at Adult Prom, a lady on the street stopped and said, "Great dress!" I wanted to tell her the story of how I got it at Macy's for nearly half price, but I figured she'd think that was weird. read more

I'm a little biased...I'm giving 5 stars to the cosmetics department. I used to work there 3 years ago and loved it...then the economy changed and Macy's reared it's ugly head and started to lay off all their BEST employees (they still are). There are some REALLY good makeup artists and skincare advisors there...I'll give you their names: Shishido (Sandra) Bobbi Brown/Estee Lauder (Paloma) Clinique (Rosio, Summer). MAC always has exceptional artists...All the people I used to know that worked there are now working in other places...but they are all very good. Please beware that a lot of the artists are NOT trained to do makeup...so if you are going to have a BIG event I advise you to go in ahead of time to see which artist you like and then go back to that same person the day of the big event (this should not just be a process brides go through...everyone should). Also, please know that if they push the Macy's credit card on you it's not because that person wants to ruin your credit score or to give you the 10-20% discount associated with opening a new card...its because their jobs depend on it. They rate each employee by how many credits they open or whatever it is they are trying to sell you (thanks for sharing, etc). A lot of them are really good people who are just trying to survive in the economic times...so be as nice to them as they are to you. read more
