I hadn't visited for a little over a year as I've been away, but this use to be my go-to Korean Fried Chicken and quesadilla place. I'm very disappointed with the changes that have been made at Mad for Chicken, other than the bar. I've been visiting here for the past 4 or 5 years and they did not have a "Limited Lunch Menu" from Monday to Friday 12pm-4pm back then. The lunch menu prices aren't even a huge difference from the regular menu prices. Even though it's been maybe a year I haven't visited, their food tastes pretty much the same and delicious. I love their Kimchi Quesada and Spicy Rice Cakes, but unfortunately, I visited during their lunch menu time and was unable to have my favorite foods. Their wings are still the same, delicious, but not the best Korean fried chicken I've had. The bulgogi and pulled pork flatbread pizza were pretty good. I highly recommend this place when you are feeling up for some good old chicken and beer. We kind of over ordered for just two people but we wanted to try as much as we can and let's just say we left the restaurant looking close to pregnant ha! We ordered a large half soy half spicy wings which came with a good 20 large wings and few drums. The taste? Better than the other Korean wings I've had in NYC. I'm used to going to philly for Korean wings but sometimes I want to stay closed to NYC and this is DEFINITELY the place to go to. We also had truffle fries which i loved. Dropping the review stars down on this one. Service has really gotten weird at this location. I was in the area and figured we grab lunch here because I really like the food. The waiter (who I think was also the manager) was not very helpful. I ordered soy garlic wings and received spicy soy garlic wings. I was told they look like non spicy garlic wings, instead of the manager putting in a new order I had to suggest it. On top of it, we were told there was no happy hour because of the holiday (we were not there on thanksgiving but the day after). There is a huge sign that stated happy hour on weekdays. I overheard the manager tell another customer the same thing. The happy hour sign should be removed if it will not be honored. Also, on the main website they indicate a soju and beer package, we inquired about it and was told they didn't have a full bar to accommodate this and this must be for another location. This Korean fried chicken spot is great for a social hangout. I have been coming here for years and they seem to change their menu pretty often but most of the things are consistent (such as the chicken of course). It's kind of hard to find parking in the area since Mad for Chicken is located right off of Northern Blvd but if you circle around the neighborhood, you'll find some street parking. The service is decent. When they get busy, they won't pay much attention to your table but the staff is still kind. They used to serve popcorn but I never get it at my table anymore. They have daily specials from Monday to Thursday and Happy Hour from 4-6 PM where you can get $4 for 4 wings and BOGO bottled beer. The menu isn't too big so you won't be overwhelmed with what to eat. I typically get the mozzarella kimchi fried rice, parmesan fries (or the potato twist which is also pretty fun to eat), nachos, and of course need to get the wings! The spicy wings have a slight kick with heat but is definitely satisfying if you like spicy food. The soy garlic wings aren't too strong in taste. The first bummer was when we walked in, there were plenty of empty tables, but we were seated in a back corner next to the men's room. Our food was good, we loved the japchae, and the wings were juicy and delicious- up until my son found a hair on one of his wings. We didn't say anything to our server because it wasn't their fault and we had eaten everything else with pleasure and we didn't want to cause a scene. My go to is their half and half (soy garlic and spicy soy garlic) with truffle fries. Their chicken is mad to order so takes longer then usual to come out so make sure to order something to pick on as you wait. Their spicy garlic is pretty spicy, but a good spice... a bum nose is running but it's so good spicy. Everyone on the table can check in on Yelp to get a free shot of lychee soju. Use cash instead of credit to get 5% off your bill. Boodae jungol-the soup is flavorful and delicious. It's not too sour. It has a good amount of cheese to slightly hinder the spiciness. The meats and rice cakes in the soup are tasty. I like that it comes on top of a mini fire so that the soup is warmed up through out. Nachos- it's decent. Loaded with alot of stuff. Chips were still crunchy beneath the mountain of cheese and meats. Half and half chicken wings: Wings are nice and crispy. Super cute place. Spacious. There's a bar but plenty of tables away from the bar, if you just want to be with your mate or with your group of friends away from the bar crowd. We ordered the $9 Mac and cheese and the large portion (22.95) of Korean wings, half and half. The Mac and cheese came out hot and amazing. The wings took them 35 min (the waiter told us ahead of time so we didn't mind). It was worth the wait. While waiting, they gave us bowls of seasoned popcorn, super delicious! It was delicious! This place has the best Korean BBQ wings I've had. Double fried. Each bite is perfectly crispy. We got our order and I didn't talk for 15 minutes because I just kept eating. 40 wings for three of us was a good portion for each. It takes a while to cook so get your wings order in right away. Every time I come here the place gets bigger and bigger! Glad to see their business is doing very well! It seems they've expanded and bought out the business to their left and now there's an even bigger bar area. I've been a devoted Mad for Chicken fan since they first opened. This place is always very consistent and their soy garlic wings are to die for! I'd have to say their Korean fried chicken is definitely my favorite in all of New York. He also made sure to check on us and emptied our chicken bone bin several times, I don't remember other similar establishments ever doing this, so that's a 5/5 for service! In terms of food, we got their avocado salad, Parmesan fries, kimchi fried rice, and an order of their large chicken wings (half spicy and half soy garlic). The spicy wings will kick you in the face and make you cry. I had a bite of one and gave the rest to my boyfriend. I couldn't handle the heat, but he loves it! The soy garlic is definitely my favorite, I could eat like a million of those in one sitting! Their avocado salad must be made with crack, because it's always very good. If you live in flushing than you know about mad for chicken. They're a well known Korean fried chicken spot but what makes them stand out from the many fried chicken spots is that their menu is almost a fusion of different cuisines. They have American and Latin influences in their food that make it more interesting. We got the medium size soy garlic combo that comes with both wings and drumsticks, Parmesan Fries, nachos and fried chicken rice bowl and spicy rice cakes. The fries came out quick and we're gone pretty quick; that's how good they were. The nachos were my favorite; they was so much layers and depth of flavor. The chips were crunchy, the cheese sauce was nice and gooey, the beans and chili were the perfect flavor combo and the pickles jalapeños balanced everything out. The fried chicken came out next and they were everything you would want in fried chicken; sticky, sweet, juicy, tender, crunchy. The fried chicken bowl was a party in your mouth; rice, glass noodle, fried chicken, guacamole, sautéed veggies, bbq sauce. The spicy rice cakes came out last (a little too long in my opinion) it was cooked jussstttt right; not too soft not to hard. It was definitely on the spicier side so take caution. I kept raving about Bonchon Chicken so my friend decided to take me here because he thought this was better. To be honest, I thought they were about the same in terms of taste and flavor. It took about 30 mins to make the wings though, so it was quite a wait. We got 20 wings, half and half, spicy and soy garlic. It was very good and the wings were juicy even though they were fried. My friend, a Flushing native, had been hyping up this Korean wing spot for months and I finally got to try it out when she hosted her birthday dinner here a couple of weeks ago. Our party of 9 arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday without a reservation and was seated immediately at one of the long picnic tables at the very front of the restaurant. It was next to the window so it was brightly lit, and I really liked the overall modern/rustic vibes of the restaurant. It was a busy but not overly crowded evening. We all checked in on Yelp for our free shot of Lychee Soju each. A couple of us ordered additional cocktails ($10/each), a bottle of Peach Soju ($14) and then a 1000ml pitcher of Mango Soju ($30) to share. We had mentioned to our waiter that we were here celebrating a birthday, so he actually served our complimentary soju shots in another pitcher (or beaker) and filled it up to the 1000ml line - which was almost double the amount of shots. SHOUTOUT to all this free alcohol! We truly appreciated it. So we basically had TWO full beakers of soju, for the price of one. Amazing! For appetizers, we ordered the Calamari ($17) and Truffle Fries ($10) - both standard but great sharing foods. (I personally could've done without all the fried foods lol) Then came out the famous WINGS. (We ordered them as soon as we sat down because they take a while to make, pro tip.) We got 3 large orders ($22.95/each with about 20 pieces per order) with 2 of them being all Soy Garlic and the last one Half & Half -- half Soy Garlic and half Spicy Soy Garlic. Birthday girl advised us that the Spicy ones are actually RLY spicy, which was why we only ordered a half batch of them. She was right. I had only one, and that was enough for me for the night... don't get me wrong, it was good but I didn't want to continuously feel like I was dying as I kept eating. Came here with a group of friends after hiking and waited quite a long time (I think an hour??) for our seats at 8pm.. wasn't pleased with the wait time as all I wanted to do was sit after such a long day but understood the server couldn't just push people out. I'm so Mad at Mad for chicken! I'm actually angry at myself for only having been born with one stomach to store all that glorious and delicious chicken. A 30 to 35 minute wait for an order of 20 wings? Yes, but when it arrives I can hear the voices of an Angelic choir belting out the hallelujah chorus in my head as they set those bad boys before me. The wings are truly spectacular! Basted in soy garlic or spicy garlic. Both flavors are a win win, but I do personally prefer the soy garlic over the spicy garlic ones. The wings are served with cubes of daikon radish. There is almost something magical When you bite down on those wings. You get that nice crunch, followed immediately with your eyes rolling to the back of your head in delicious ecstasy. I can just eat the wings alone and I would be fine forever, but they just don't excel in wings alone. We love Korean fried chicken ever since we found out about it! Mad For Chicken is probably one of the best Korean fried chicken places we been to. The restaurant had is basically a sports bar with multiple TVs having football and basketball on. The decor was nice and the lights provided a dim environment for a fine dining experience. The service was fine and I could not comment much on it because we did not experience an extraordinary or extremely poor service. We ordered the half and half soy garlic and spicy soy garlic. The wings and drumsticks were quite large but there were a couple tiny ones that they hid under the pile of big drumsticks!. In our experience of eating Korean Fried Chicken, Mad for Chicken has the crispiest thin skin compared to all the other places we went to. The flavor was marinated deep into the crispy skin and meat of the chicken that it was so wonderful to eat the skin along with the meat. I will say that the spicy soy garlic were not as enjoyable compared to the regular soy garlic flavor because we felt that the spiciness overpowered the soy garlic and you were just eating a piece of chicken that is spicy without much flavor. We also thought they were a bit stingy with the radish that was provided compared to the huge amount of chicken that you get. I would also say that the soy garlic flavor became a bit overpowering as we only had a fried chicken dish and didn't have another dish with it so it felt like our throats were clogged up with soy garlic. I think the fried chicken here will pair well with their avocado salad.
