After some savory lunch, I needed something Sweet. At that moment, I locked eyes with the words, "Mad Hatter" (mind you I'm a huge Alice in Wonderland fan). Reached the window/opening of the establishment and was greeted with wonderful service, with smiles, happiness and ready to assist. A+++ The smell and ambiance of the joint was deliciously delightful. Clean, clear menu and well organized and informed. Now onto the food item: I had the Mini cute size doughnuts! OG style. Freshly baked, warm, crispy outer with such an airy fluffy inside. The glaze was just sweet enough and the right amount to not over soak them in sugar. My Oh My, now this hit the sweet spot. Our 2 year old massively got into trains several months ago, so we decided to invest in a membership to the Railroad museum next door. As a treat, one of our multiple trips each week is ended with a couple of scoops at Mad Hatter! The fact that they serve Gunther's ice cream is a huge plus, as well as delicious freezes, and even some canned/bottled beverages. We haven't tried the namesake doughnuts yet, but certainly had it on the list for an upcoming trip. However, I'm not certain we'll be coming back. We parked in front of Mad Hatter around 3PM on Thursday 10/9 and unloaded to head to the museum next door. I needed a kick of energy, so I stood waiting in front of an unattended counter to order a Celsius. A young man approached me from behind and asked what I wanted. I was confused, mentioned the drink, and he walked around the corner to go back into the business. No big deal. I got my drink and hopped over to see some trains. At around 4:50 we left the museum and went straight to Mad Hatter again, this time for some ice cream. Again, the counter was unattended, but the same young man (who apparently was sitting on the bench nearby) popped up as we approached and announced "I have 8 more minutes left on my 30, and then I'll be back." Fair enough. Everyone deserves their breaks, but there was no one else that could help us get ice cream, apparently, so we decided to kill some time wandering around Old Sac. We came back around 5:15 and the business was closed up. We were confused because we thought it was open until at least 5:30 or 6, and why would you take a break just to come back and close shop? I'm not really sure what happened, but it seemed like this young man really didn't want us to have ice cream, nor really want to help anyone. There's plenty of other spots in Old Sac to grab a treat, so looks like we'll be supporting somewhere else now. read more

I've stopped by this donut shop on a few occasions and noticed they no longer sell "donut holes" but instead they are called "knots". Basically fried dough in the shape of a knot avail in different flavors. The OG glaze and powdered flavors were very sweet but so good! The knots are fried to a crisp, with a chewy texture. There is a cashier that sits at the open window that will take your order and answer any questions you have about their donuts, she's helpful and greeted us with a smile. The ambiance is a fast food vibe as it's just an order window for food to go with a bench out front offering limited seating. There is no inside seating. Stopped here on our way to the train museum, located across the street, for a quick treat. I purchased 8 mini donuts for $5. I selected the cinnamon sugar- they were hot and fresh. Excellent home made donuts. When I arrived; I was surprised that she didn't have my order. Please be advised. This location is not able to get web orders. The sad part is that I was able to place the order online. However when I got there they didn't have any record of the order or payment. I found out the resturant is not set up to receive the online orders. I showed her my order on my phone. She made a fresh order for me. They were delicious. The OG regular donuts are amazing but you have to call and make sure the owner is there otherwise they don't sell them. The mini donuts were not great. Super overpriced and not fully glazed. We've been there twice and both times they didnt have the regular donuts. Sad. waste of 20$ read more

I came here a few weekends ago, it looked nice and was pretty busy so I figured it was going to be good. However there was a lady who I assumed works there and she had her dog in the store, running around and leaving hair everywhere, it kinda turned me off from the food but I still waited anyway. But the line was pretty long and this lady kept talking so much to every customer as they got up to the front, not every single customer needs to hear the story of your shop, it just made the wait so much longer and the people behind me even left. I did get my donuts, they were alright but the whole experience and the dog makes me not want to return. read more

This review is based off the shady charge. I bought 2 drinks and doughnuts. It was overpriced but was ok as we were having a good time. Doughnuts and drinks were good and the service was good. We even helped the them out when another customer short changed them 74 cents and dropped them a dollar. Even a 15% tip was added. Later that evening, I got an email from my card company that the charge changed without explanation. Now the charge was $41.40 for a box of doughnuts and 2 drinks. What the hell price change is that?!? Not even close to being worth it. Will never get them again and I'm a local that pops up in the area frequently. read more

Girl that was there kept looking at us not saying anything. We wanted to but dannys mini donuts. Willing to wait. She would look and acted like we weren't there. My wife and I were originally devastated when we saw Danny's Donuts close down but the new owner and proprietor is awesome! You can get both Danny's donuts former kind AND the newer kind which I actually prefer (although my wife glares at me when I say that). The price is great, it's right by the train museum so I have something to bribe my daughter to leave. I had the opportunity to speak with the new owner and he was very gracious and friendly - we will definitely be returning regularly. read more

I went again and tried the KBBQ burger. Pretty good yet I was disappointed how there was no lettuce. Good anyways! I also tried some onion rings with a friend and it was pretty big. The whole burger felt a bit heavy so I'm not sure when I'll return but it makes for fun bougie fast food in a nice midtown location!
